Good day gentlemen (and lady nerds),
Though I consider myself knowledgeable in desktops, I find it better to include a third party to aid me in making a decision in purchasing a desktop. To make it easy...these are the things I'm looking for (to narrow the possibilities)
Will be going to Best Buy---I know...but I really have never had any issues with them...besides, the person helping can look at their website for specs.
Desktop options:
Pretty much open to anything (see??? It wasn't hard!!) Looking for:
dual layered dvd/rw lightscribe drive
at least 500gb
4gb ddr2 sdram mem
Price range --- up to $500 US (or 6 million pesos +QuePPC)
capable of handling photo and video editing without me having to wait 10 minutes to apply changes...
I just need to replace my current desktop, as it feels like its beginning to run on fumes (already 5 1/2 years old)---poor fella...
**off topic--went to Mexico as a child and found a coin...person told me that it was like 5,000 pesos and I was like, "Man!!! I'm rich!!!!" Went to a store...and came out with a stale, spicy piece of candy...rip off!!!
I dont know if its will be in your price range but!!!
Intel core i7 920 (the cheapestof i7 but can be OCd to 4ghz)
Nvidia Geforce 9600 and up (like 9800 or gts250) or a good ati card like 4870 (about the same power a Nvidia geforce 260 - but much cheaper)
about the other stuff -well if this all will be in you price range - then find something that is compatible with this!!
Good Luck!

500US is not 6 million pesos
500US = 6,651MX
We do not have a 5,000 pesos coin!
The biggest coin is like 20 pesos
Unless you came México before 1985...

You're wasting your time going to bestbuy.
I build systems regularly and you can get a brand new i5 system with a dedicated video card for about 600. It's more than you were looking to spend, but FAR superior to what you'd get at bestbuy for the money. If you're interested, I can piece something together at an online retailer and email it to you. I just hate seeing people pay more for less in a store.
Okay...how about this then?
Looked up a site...and just plugged in some specs...
can I do better than this at a 585 price????
Take something like Pentium DualCore E5200, cheapest 4GB RAMs 800/1066MHz (they actually might be cheaper lol), WD6400AAKS harddrive (640GB, fast, awesome), 400W Seasonic PSU, GTS250 GPU, Gigabyte G31 motherboard (or P35 ASUS or anything like that) plus other things you need (dvdrw, casing). I hope it can fit in 500$ (it's not that much tbh).
PS: You can easy overclock the E5200, all of them goes at least to 3.3GHz
This setup runs at $513 US...is this decent?
That's better, but the GPU I don't like (crappy drivers), plus harddrive would be better WD6400AAKS since it is faster. Why the hell did you choose crappy nvidia 7100 motherboard? Take cheapest G31 or P35 MoBo.
If this is maximum you can pay, take it. Still, the price seems pretty high for me.

Who would of thought the knock off would be just as good if not better than the original?
Not sure where you can buy it...i searched ebay and didn't find anything.
lol, though inevitable that was super fast!
More and more clones will hit the market as time goes on.
A few places you can get China's famous knockoffs from:
http://www.dealextreme.com (my favorite & a fantastic site for cheap gadgets, but the most 'legit' in this case, they won't state anything as an 'iPod/iPad' clone)
http://www.focalprice.com - This one is hilarious, they are a rival of DX and openly sell clones though use ridiculous terms to disguise trademarked names such as 'NokLa 3210 beautiful comfort phone' and post their own fake Engrish reviews
http://www.milkandhoneyland.com - I've never used them but they openly sell clones for what they are
Stay the hell away from clones though unless they're something you really want or have money to burn!
Edit:
One version shown had three USB ports

I've used windows tablets for years, and they all suck unless they have an awesome resistive screen, or a active digitizer. Now those cheap android tablets, on the other hand, are mighty tempting
I got it and is arrived yesterday, i'm very impressed by it; 7 inches is a good size and the screen is very brilliant, 2 hours and half of autonomy and a good response of the touch screen.
But i'm new of Android devices and i've not a term of paragon;
How i can improve the android version? for you is possible to up it to the 2.1?

I wouldn't think you would be able to get 2.1 just yet, with it being the latest firmware anyone know if it gets OTA updates like the phones?
To be honest, I would rather get an iPad over this piece of crap.
Windows XP is a terrible OS for tablets.
I see...this a customizable tablet.....it's alright then...

I know but lke what if they ran Windows 3.1 with MS BOB? OMG rte?
First, I won't buy it soon. Just looking for one to have ideia about what notebook to choose. So, being launched until end of 2013 isn't problem for me.
So, I want:
-Processor: Intel Core i5 or i7 (Ivy Bridge, if possible).
RAM: 6 to 8 Gb
HD: + or - 500 Gb, or a SSD with a big capacity.
Screen: 14 to 16 inches, maybe FullHD.
Keyboard: Not needed, but numeric keyboard is a good. A must is retro-iluminated keyboard. Maybe controls for music (Play/Pause, Backward (forgot the word!!!), Next and volume control.
Graphics Card: No need for the best, only something that can play games quite nice, as playing won't be the main use.
Weight: The less, the better.
Size: The thinest as possible.
Connectivity: 1 HDMI, 1 VGA, 3 or 4 USBs (preference for 3.0, at least 2.0), CD/DVD Reader/Recorder. Blu-Ray not needed, but optional. 1 SD/MicroSD (there is a notebook that hava Micro SD?). Don't use many others. Bluetooth not needed, but if possible, I want.
Color/Finish: Piano Black or something Grey. Suggestions accepted.
Another things I may have forgotten, please ask.
Use will be browsing, wathing movies/series, light to medium editior programs usage, gaming, songs (a lot) and, of course, Android user things.
Thanks for the help.
It will serve you well.

Yes I know, got one myself. Asus K53SV-SX838V. It got an I7 2670QM 2.2Ghz, 8GB Ram, Nvidia GT 540M 1GB, 640GB HDD.
But well you got look for yourself, Asus K53 is the serie I have, they have them in several options, I got the better option. This one should fill your needs for sure.

I've always been partial to Toshiba. Never had any hardware related problems with them.
Here.
I have an HP, and although they aren't that reliable, their performance is outstanding, especially the dv7 series. Go for one of these, Toshibas are also extremely durable and reliable.
OK. Thanks for your help. I was just searching for ideas.

NO!
Bro, an Alienware is NEVER worth it.
You can get those specs at lower price, they charge too much for that chasis.
total rip off IMHO
Any ideas for what I should get? $1000 is my limit.

No sir, no sir. Dell used to be grand, but they can and will build you a machine that will get slower and slower due to bloat and unnecessary processes as time goes by.
If you have $1K I'd recommend you go to a local builder and have them do the job. Most will give free on-site repairs for a least two years after purchase.
No! Buy something else! Alienware is overpriced!

Dell owns alienware and you call dell to order an alienware computer. That's why I said he could call them. And by your argument, every manufacturer is going to build a computer that is will bog down over time because of bloat. Which that in itself is crazyness. How in the hell is preinstalled programs going to make your machine slower over time. Aaaaaaaand you can uninstall them by going to the control panel > uninstall/install programs.
..........wow......
---------- Post added at 10:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:33 PM ----------
Also, I say you can call them and the rep will build you a business platform machine with the same specs at a severe cut in price is because that's exactly what I did way back long time ago. I called looking into getting an alienware and inquired why the same specs on other models are so lower in price. He said he didn't know, but if I want to know a tip, he could find and "build" similar speced business model for much much less. Only diff is the ugly case.
Meh, not worried about what can and can't be removed. My phone is one thing since we haven't gotten to the point that you can run down the street and have a local builder fab up a phone for you, but on the PC end I'd do it myself for a desktop or have a laptop built.
I will concede that the Dells we have in our college labs run pretty much without issue as schools tend to specify exactly what comes onboard and nothing more is allowed, so perhaps having them build something to spec would work fine.
Well if you're into under 15" laptops, here's a thread that compiles the laptops that fit into that category and also have some gaming capability.

This reminds me of the viewsonic gtablet I got for free, rooted it with hc and then gave away for free. It had decent hardware for how old it was, but weighed enough to kill someone if you needed to use it for self defense purposes
It wasn't "the hot thing" on the market though, so custom roms for it were rare because it'd be like putting a custom paint job on a Kia... fail.
If people buy these things and there is support in the dev community out there it could be good, but I keep hearing this voice in my head thats saying "you get what you pay for".

I KNEW IT! I knew Apple was in the Android game. Look at them, doing what they do best. Taking everything in the world, and changing 2-3 letters, and making it their 'own'. Oh Apple, you so sneakz.
Inb4 Apple sues THL for making phones that look like other phones and do things other phones already do and then adds those things so their phone can do it too.
They patented copyright and patent-infingement, only Apple can duz that.
Technology Happy Life.
That's priceless. HTC should change their name to that.
I wonder if HTC or Samsung would go after them for these.

They're not once you realize that:
A. The CPU is actually terrible
B. The screen is awful despite being 1080p.
C. The software is buggy (even their screenshots have errors in the notification tray!)
D. You get essentially ZERO support from them, and in broken English!
Are all the reviews there shills?
If they aren't then these may not be half bad if you're ok with probably noisy pictures, 3G, a 2000 mAH battery (that's terrible for a 5") and pretty much (at least, I would expect) no support.
