What GPS software with US MAPS that will work seamlessly with TYTN II?

I like to install a gps software that has the capability for US Maps, is it possible? What software could it be? I tried TOMTOM but it wouldn't install on Windows Vista. The setup won't run.
Also, my SD card can't accomodate 1.2GB of maps, can I only select some places that I think I ll be needing gps assistance?
I'm using iGo MyWay Plus and I'm very happy with it.

Surely you didn't purchase Tomtom to give up on it so soon? Take it up with their support.
I use GPSTuner which is able to download maps on the fly from Google and other sources. It also comes with Map Calibrator which allows you to download maps from online sources (free), or scan your own maps in and calibrate. Works pretty well with the TYTN II, although the driver problem does slow it down sometimes.
It won't give you satnav functions though if that is what you are after, in which case your phone should have come with Tomtom or Copilot
Garmin Mobile XT, version for Windows Mobile phones w/ built-in GPS.
Comes on a 2 Gb card, works so good.
Try mapopolis.

north american gps software?

I hate to be the new guy who asks the question that is repeated all over the forum, but I did a search and was unable to find a good answer to my question. I am mainly concerned with which has the best features that doesn't use any kind of data connection. Also which software can i buy and put on my 8gb micro sd? i know some come on 2gb cards and I would rather use my own card. Also is there any kind of chat for the forum? I feel terrible asking stupid questions on the forum.
There is no "the best" in the real world.
None of below GPS navigator application use data connection, unless you want some extra features like weather, traffic etc...
1. tomtom 6.
2. Garmin XT, however, it locked to pre-installed included microsd. If you want to copy it to your card then you have to know some ways to generate the new key.
3. Destinator 6. Version 7 comes with text to speech, but it is not available for America.
4. CoPilot Live 7 comes with microSD, but I don't if it is locked or not.
5. iGuidance V4. Text to speech is included. The only one comes with 14 days trial, but the trial version doesn't work on PPC.
I'm running 1. and 2.
thanks for the reply. what i meant by the data connect comment was all the bells and whistles suck as real time traffic and all, but out of tom tom and garmin which do you use or like the most?

Well, it's hard to answer b/c I don't have hands-on experience on the others.
In America and countries which tomtom maps are available, tomtom is my choice. I run Garmin because it makes maps that tomtom doesn't.
I think I may try iGuidance v4 if tomtom won't launch a newer version for PDA. However, iGuidance v4 still has its problem, for example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368373.
I've been using Route 66 on my Kaiser -- with full US maps, it takes just a bit more than 4GB, so it'll fit on a 6 or 8GB microSDHC. Its maps are pretty good, but probably getting to be a bit dated; when I bought it 2+ years ago, its maps were brand new, but they haven't been updated AFAIK.
Yeah, i travel to US often i see my friend using Telenav on his tilt. It sucks.
If you drive fast, you dont see the map getting updated, even with HSDPA on. [Ofcourse there is a disclaimer, do not use while driving].
In my opinion, TomTom is good. I have for both Europe and US.
For US, it takes a bit more than 1GB. Its quite good and user friendly as well!!
If I had a nickel for every time there was a thread like this I would be drinking a nice cold coke.
Golf software?
While we're on the topic of NA GPS sw, I haven't founf many suggestions for golf sw that's got plenty of US courses. Any suggestions?
I'm using TomTom 6, but I recently became concerned with the age of the maps. In Philadelphia, it cannot find Veteran's Stadium (demolished in 2004), which would indicate that that maps are from at least 2005. But at the same time, it can't find Lincoln Financial Field [Philadelphia Eagles] or Citizen's Bank Park [Philadelphia Phillies], both of which opened in 2004.
I paid for $70 for the latest maps through TomTom Home, but who knows, maybe they just didn't copy to the device right...
I dont think its necessarily TomTom's fault for the maps, except that they charged you for them. I use google maps and there are many things that aren't on the maps that have been there for at least 2 years. It seems that maps in general from all sources need updated.... Its why i like nautical charts... updated weekly... too bad i cant find a good cheap/ free nautical navigation program.

Just a note to everyone looking for GPS software for the Kaiser. I know many of you don't like the menacing machine of google, but google maps combined with the built in GPS works great. It also gives you the ability to look at a map, satalite overview as well as traffic.
Google Maps is really good not disputing that, but they need to update the maps and imagery... There are places that are no longer around in my town that are listed on the maps. And some of these places have been gone for years.

I use googe maps combined with the built-in gps as well. It's extremely user friendly. It's almost dummy proof, lol, and has a nice gui too. Like in a previous post, it seems that many, if not all, gps programs have outdated maps ranging from 1 to 3 years, possibly more. I read somewhere that Google Maps' imagery (and Google Earth' s imagery) are 2 to 3 years ago due to National Security. I wouldnt be surprised if Tom Tom, Igo, Garmin, and other GPS programs used outdated maps as well.
If there were a system to supply updated maps for comm GPS programs like there is for nautical systems, that would be fricking sweet. Or a program that lets you use/ view nautical charts. I'm a mariner by trade so I love using GPS tools.
i have tried this http://gpsvp.garminmapsearch.com/ it works great

TT7 and 8 Navcore?

I keep reading about different versions of maps for tomtom: 7 series maps and 8 series navcore maps. I am thinking about upgrading from older 6 maps on my cruise but don't want to buy 720 if 8 is just around the corner.
Is tt7 on the diamond going to work with 8 series navcore maps and what is the major difference? I did a search and all I came up with is better routing IQ and speed limits and something about updates?
I live in the US but use tomtom oversees and garmin stateside.
thanks,
-mix
No just 7 maps, but i read somewhere that is the same as 8 maps exept the road lane assistant
Thanks, with your info I was able to find an older link about 8 with some screenshots
http://www.yournav.com/content/s/422/NavCore_8_IQ_Routes_+_Lane_Guidance.html
I was hoping for TTS on the PPC version, but so far it doesn't sound like that is working.
tt7 with 720 maps works mine
i have my diamond with tt7 and 720 maps
Hey, to answer my own question, according to other forums, 8 series maps do not work on the ppc at this time.

Destinator 7 too slow

Hi,
Is anyone here running Destinator 7 (forced to VGA) with a ~200MB map?
I got an updated map to Brazil (2008.q2) and Destinator now runs like installed in an 100mhz device...
It's true that with the map used before (just my City - São Paulo - 50mb) it was not so fast (Tomtom runs much more smooth but has older maps).
Any idea to optimize it? If i move the main app to internal memory make a great diference?
Thanks for the help Bros.
CreativeBR
i have the same problem with tt7. recalculating takes too long.
more than 10 seconds. (which is long when you have to know when to take the alternative turn if you take a wrong one)
I'm a bit frustated with the GPS usage in Diamond
The best map for my country is Destinator compatible but the program itself runs very slow (almost not usable).
The second best map is Igo 2006 compatible but i cant make any navigation software based on its core run in Diamond (igo2006, MioMap3.3, onCourseNav, V7... )
The 3rd choice is TomTom7 but the map has some errors in some regions (downtown) of my City so i dont trust in it anymore.
I'm trying Garmin XT V4 this week. But i guess the map is a little old and designed more to inter cities roads than to urban (streets and avenues)use.
Igo8 runs but dont have maps to my place.
So i dont have a good solution at the moment.
Is destinator 6 more light that the 7 version? Is it deservs a try?
