New app: system app backupper, it allows you to backup system app and restore them when you want.
This app is created to make you able to restore system apps on a custom rom that cannot contain them.
Hope this could help cyanogen and the whole comunity.
ATM I don't know if it works for app2sd users. You can try. If not I'll update the app to be app2sd compatible.
Maybe it will cause Force Closes if you restore NON NEEDED system app to a different rom

Added possibility to check/uncheck all
wheres the app?
on the market?
*confirmed* app is on the market
Hope author doesnt mind me posting the apk
here it is:
the app is good but can use a select all button, manually selecting a bunch of the apk files is annoying
I can not find this app in the market. What's the app's name?
The apk will not install it say the app could not be installed using apk installer
If you're using app posted in this thread you have to' change extension to .apk
@stefan.buddle I'll include "select all" into the next version
phone crashed while did backup
@Spon4ik Can you provide me a log?
this might become an app included in barebone ROMs
it say The apk will not install it say the app could not be installed using apk installer
im on cm4.0.4 and yea i unzipped it i know how to install apk it jsut wont install
It is build for android 1.6 (donut)
I can't find the app on the market
Maybe you don't run donut. This app is compiled for android 1.6
Hmmm havne't seen too many success stories. I hope this is figured out, cause it will be ESSENTIAL with the bare bones ROM. Keep everyone posted with the success at getting this working.
Try yourself. Backup a system app, then delete it, then restore it. Tell us if it is working
So far was able to install and make a successful back up. Haven't tried a restore yet but will see in a minute.
Edit: Seemed to work for me. Backed up the email app then deleted it. Then I did a restore and seemed fine to me. One thing I would like to see is the ability to name and pick which backups we can restore instead of the last one we did. Other than that seems good to me.

Are you using app2sd?
What do you exactly mean with "it is working but not for sd?"

Suddenly I can't play flash video from a web sight. I get the old "you need to get the latest flash player to see this video". I'm running fresh rom 2.1.2. It was working then nothing. Anyone else with this? Any fixes? Please help. Thanks.

You guys don't seem to get the point. The thing at the top of the forum? That's called a sticky, clearly saying "QUESTIONS GO IN THE Q&A FORUM". You didn't see the Q&A board as well, or spend time to post in the right section. For the answer to your question, have you tried reflashing?
Sorry about the post location. And yes, I've wiped and flashed twice. Just don't get it.
Same problem here. I looked at the apps in the system folder of fresh toast and fresh rom and noticed that the newer fresh rom is missing some files for flash player and the files it isn't missing are different sizes. I really don't know much about them. I pushed all the flash related files I found in fresh toast to fresh ROM 2.1.2 and rebooted to see if it would work but no luck. Any ideas? Here's the file comparison:

according to your pic, the files missing that you are referring to are odex files. these have been taken out on 2.1.2 on all system apps. simply putting them back in will do nothing as the odex files themselves have been incorporated into the corresponding apk as classes dex file. if your flash content is not working, the problem lies elsewhere (where, I wouldn't have a clue) as it works fine on my phone. try reflashing the rom on top of itself is a good place to start

Ah. For just a second I thought to myself about that and then I dropped it. That explains why the two files in fresh ROM 2.1.2 are a little bigger. Thanks for the info.
I installed a MIUI Music app from my SD card using CWM, but after trying it out I'd like to remove it. When I go to remove it however, I don't get the option to uninstall. How can I remove it?

I've tried ES File Explorer and File Expert, both free alternatives to Root Explorer. I've given the apps root permissions but they aren't successfully deleting the file (as seen by errors shown in post 1).
I'm wondering if I have R/W permission, but I can't find anywhere to enable or disable that in either app I'm using.
[edit]
Using File Expert under Settings>Mount there is Mount as Read Write
This did the trick
glad you got it done

You've been very helpful the past few days, AzzleDazzle! Thank you!
I was on MIUI v3 last week and thought the ROM itself was OK, I switched to Darky 10.1 for now (maybe CM7 next)...but I really liked the MIUI Music app. I found a copy in the apps section on xda but it wasn't the same version as the one I was using on v3, was missing some features I liked (slide up/down now playing menu). I asked for someone from the MIUI Dev thread to get me a copy of the APK, but after pushing it to /system/app (see, I know how to do that now) and rebooting, it wasn't in my app menu, and when I select it in File Expert it says "Error parsing file package"
have you tried to extract the app and push the files to the right location ??
im not 100% on this i have been with CM - MIUI for ages now, so i forgot a lot about the samsung based ROMs,
anyway i have extracted the MIUI music app from my latest MIUI release, give it a try and see what happens with this version

Thanks again AD!

Do those other camera apps work? Use those, or reflash CM7 on top of current install
Sent from my ICS i897 Captivate
yes those other apps do work. but they have no video recording. If there was an app with video recording i would do that. Buuuuuuut i really did like the stock one. So re flashing cm7 will definitely fix this? Any other way?
Grab that apk from the ROM in/system/app and paste it in with a root file explorer on your phone. Then reboot.
found the apk through root explorer at where u said. Where do i past it now though?
Copy the .apk to your phone from your pc, then move it to /system/app with Root Explorer (don't forget to mount R/W).

Sorry...yeah, goes in the same place.
The folder structure in a ROM zip is where all of it goes when it flashes (except the updates folder, that contains the kernel and modem)
As stated above make sure you guy the little button on the top right of root explorer to mount r/w BEFORE you paste.
i am so sorry for being so ignorant. But how do i get the apk from my computer? i see the camera.apk with its icon in my system/apps/ folder.
sorry about that. Guess i brain farted. re download newest cm7 got the camera apk. put it from my comp to my phone. didnt have to reboot just had to install it. working perfect thanks guys!!
okay well i did this and it got fixed. Buuuuuut every time i reboot the phone the problem comes back and i have to reinstall the app every time. Any way to fix this or do i just have to reinstall the apk every time i wanna use my camera?

Just flash CM7 on top and it most likely will be fixed. It takes like 5 seconds. And you will need to put your kernel back on too. Another 5 seconds
Ahhh okay. I only reflashed cm7. Thanks

I just put Android via CyanogenMod on my Touchpad. Everything looks nice and I linked my Google account but it's not listing the apps for my other device (Epic, currently NOT in use) to install on the Touchpad.
Any idea how I can merge the apps and get them on the Touchpad without having to manually process each one? I paid for some, so it would be a little inconvenient to have to pay again.
The screen I get, btw, looks like this one:

I don't know if this is the reason or not, but I don't think the touchpad is a valid device for the market so it would be 'unknown'... maybe if you change the build.prop file like on the Xron rom so it could be identified... just a thought.
You could also try to back up your apps with Titanium, then transfer the files to the touchpad and do a manual install (i guess as long as the android version is the same, 2.3).

via Dropbox, you mean? Not sure there's an expansion slot for the TouchPad.
How do you get one's Titanium Backup pro license on the device if you can't get an SD card in it?
so... does anyone know how to get Titanium Backup working on the Touchpad?
Did you install the market fix for cm7? The xron build has the fix built in and changes the build prop for better app compatibility. You can check it out on the xda touchpad development forum.

Yes, the Touchpad is up to date. However, I'm still trying to ascertain if Titanium Online Backup even works with a Touchpad given the need for an SD card.
I guess since I paid, I could just ask directly for support, but I'm surprised that nobody else seems to use TI on the TouchPad. Really?
Yes, TI Backup works with the touchpad. The internal storage is treated as an sd card and the space is shared by webOS and android.

I updated my settings apk to a 5.5 version from the 5.0 version that is in the stock 4.3 rom, and now I can't access my settings at all.
I know, stupid move not backing up before I did it.
Is there anyone that can please point me to where I can download just the settings apk for the stock 4.3 rom?

Downloading a stock 4.3 ROM (from here) and opening it up and looking for it in /system/app or /system/priv-app (in the ROM) might help. After you find it, just use Root Explorer to move it to your own directory where Settings.apk lies in.

I'd give you it, but it's Sense 6.0.
OK Giving that a try. Also, while waiting for it to download, I'm dissecting my latest nandroid backup and trying to get it from there.
I think I need an odex file for it too. Seems like everything else has one.
Got the files from my backup and copied them to where they needed to be, but it didn't work. Unsure why.

Do they have the same permissions as the other files in the same folder?
I just decided to restore the backup. Everything else I did just froze the phone on the loading screen.
Thanks for the help though. ^^
