[Solution] How to make an uploadable image of an SD backup image - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

First your phone must be CID unlocked to make a backup image
Programs you will need
MTTY
USB Image Tool "Developer’s web site"
Instructions:
1. Open ActiveSync go to Connection Settings and uncheck “Allow USB connections”.
2. Put the phone in boot loader mode.
Turn the phone off press and hold the Camera key, now insert the USB cable, Keep holding the “Camera” key until you get the boot loader screen.
3. Insert formatted SD card, 128mb or larger.
4. Start MTTY select Port: = USB click the “OK” button, you don’t need to change anything else.
5. Type “set 32”
“CMD55 failed” = SD card not properly inserted.
“g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 0” = CID unlocked, if not you didn’t read the first line of this post.
6. Type “r2sd all” this will create a full backup, don’t interrupt the process, wait for it to finish.
7. Type “ResetDevice”
8. Remove SD from phone, insert SD to computer.
9. Open USB Image Tool, select “Device Mode” from the drop down list, select the SD card and click “Backup”.
To write the SD image to an SD card select the SD card you want to write to and click “Restore”.
Now we move on to restoring the image to the phone.
With the phone on, insert the SD card in the phone, press and hold the “Camera” key and soft reset, keep holding the “Camera” key.
When asked, “Download SD Image?” release “Camera” key and press the “Voice Dial” key.
Hopefully that covers it.
This could be a viable way for people who have broken USB ports to restore/upgrade their phones.

These are official stock ROMs
Cingular 8125 G3
T-Mobile MDA G3
T-Mobile MDA G4
I will list more as I make them

Tried image on my phone and it did not work. So I opened MTTY and ran ( set 32 ) and got
Code:
CMD55 failed
GetDeviceCID: Error - InitDecoder
g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = FF
I believe FF means it is locked.
So I tried info 1 which gave 2.21.Olipro.
Sounds like I broke the HardSPL but did not change the SPL from 2.21.Olipro.
Sounds like truly a brick now.

You are correct.
g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = FF
Means CID locked.

I noticed a few downloads have been made but no comments.
What I want to know:
1. Did the ROM images work?
2. Do you have a broken USB port?
3. Did you have another reason for downloading the image?
What im trying to get from these questions:
1. Has anybody been able to use these images?
2. Should I continue to upload images?
3. Was this thread pointless?

Well, i'm about to try to use the T-Mobile G4 image on my WWE QTEK9100 G4. Its stuck in the screen right after bootloader (that shows the versions) and i can't get it to boot or flash anything. I just want to get a ROM in it that boots so i'll see if that works.

Thank you for responding.
I noticed from your other thread that your using the hard SPL and your having problems installing ROMs.
With the hard SPL installed im not sure this method could help you, please let me know if it does.
If your still having problems let me know I will try to help.

bootloader = camera + softreset
and flshing from sd - never worked for me
ok...well can i flash from my usb or whatever???if so do you know where i can get a compatible version for my p4300/wizard.
for those of us with mac's and non windows desktops<it would be nice to have a wayto flash from minisd! I can only remember how easy it was back when I used my zaurus 5500.
Please use the search function because I know 4 sure it is described in these forum, since I have done it myselves.
But once again:
1 BackUp your Herald (if possible)
2 Format your micro-sd card with FAT32
3 Unpack the .nbh file of the Rom you want to use if needed
4 Rename the .nbh file to Heraimg.nbh and place this file, and only this file onto your micro-sd card.
5 Place the micro-sd card in your Herald
6 Put the Herald in bootloader-modus by pressing simultanious camera- and comm. manager button and performing a softreset. Keep pressing both buttons until the bootlaoderscreen appears.
7 Your screen will display the instructions to press the key on the left side of your device (slide the volumebar down)
8 Follow the instructions as displayed.
9 After flashing perform a hard reset as prompted!
10 Tada
But; before flashing by micro-sd:
- Make sure your device is fully charged
- Flashing is always on your own risk and neither I or anyone else can be held responsibl if anything goes wrong
This methode cab also be used when unbricking your device if no pc-connection is possible/available

With some fantasy I interpreted your post as "for me this method did not work"
If it didn't work, you screwed up somewhere...but no need to worry...what exactly didn't work?
In your future post please do not only mention something doesn't work but include which part didn't work and what went wrong.

WM5 ROM location??

I'm just about ready to upgrade my Cingular Treo750 to WM6, but before I do, I'd like to make sure I can bring it back down to WM5 in case I'm one of the few that don't like WM6 or I screw up the update and just want to revert back.
This is really my first time here since the site was referred to me by people from everythingtreo.com. I've been reading other posts here that they have reverted back to a WM5 ROM, but I can't find any links on where to get it.
I'm running Cingular's WM5 on my Treo750 right now.
Thanks in advance.
I don't remember where I got it, but the file that contains it is:
Treo750_Cingular_WM5_ROM.zip
A word to the wise, if you want to be able to go back to WM5 AND install things like the factory audio patch or anything else that checks the version number, USE THE SD CARD METHOD to install WM6 and NOT the desktop method.
The reason for this is a desktop installer doesn't exist for WM5, and you will have to revert using the SD card method, which does not update the software version. So if you go to WM6 your versions jumps to 2.25 or such, and if you revert, you have WM5 v1.13 (with its audio bug, etc), but the software still says version 2.25 to any sw/patch loading program that cares.
I have never heard of a way to revert the version number back to the original 1.13. Perhaps the device reset software from the PALM web site (http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/devicereset.html) will do it, but that is complete speculation.
Found the WM5 ROM
I found the link to the Cingular TREO 750 WM5 ROM - finally found the right combination of words to type into google to find it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-320748.html
I'm pasting the included instructions below. In the thread, people were having trouble with the install of WM5, but one guy towards the bottom referred to another post that I haven't found indicating that you don't need to follow STEP 1 of the instructions.
I'm just wondering if anyone's used this ROM and if you need to do STEP 1 or not and what version it ends up flashing to..??..
my Treo is version TREO750-1.13CNG, Hardware Version: A
INSTALLING THE CINGULAR_TREO_750_WM5_ROM
Insert the reader w/card into your USB, after the PC recognizes the card right click on the drive letter.
Select Format from the options and make sure FAT32 is selected as the file system then select start.
Also, you need to copy the files to the memory card one at a time; DIAG file first and then delete the DIAG prior to loading the IMG file second.
Step 1:
-Copy the ‘CheeDIAG.nbh’ file to the root directory of a miniSD card. Note: Windows Mobile recognizes updates only from FAT32 formatted cards.
-Insert the card into the device.
-Press and hold both the PTT/App Button (lowest button on left side of device) + Pin Reset (next to miniSD card slot).
You will be prompted to press the ‘End’ (red power) key to start the update. This step takes only a few seconds to complete.
Once the flash is done, you will see: ‘Model ID: Palm Treo 750’ displayed by the device.
Step 2:
-Copy the ‘CHEEIMG.nbh’ file to the root directory of a miniSD card. Note: Windows Mobile recognizes updates only from FAT32 formatted cards.
-Insert the card into the device.
-Press and hold both the PTTApp Button (lowest button on left side of device) + Pin Reset (next to miniSD card slot).
You will be prompted to press the ‘End’ (red power) key to start the update. This step takes about 5 minutes to complete.
-Hard reset the device once the device indicates the upgrade has been completed.
To hard-reset, hold the ‘End’ (red power) key while pressing the pin reset button. Answer “yes” to “Erase all data” prompt.
Step 3:
Verify the device software via the device <start><settings><system tab><about><phone tab> The device should display firmware version on the resulting screen.
TTT. I'd like to know if we can downgrade as well

How to: Remove Olipro Hard-SPL 1.40

Once finished you will have:
IPL-0.20
SPL-0.24.0000
* Requires MiniSD card
On your PC
---
1. Copy the files in "jumpspl-urt.zip" to the root of your device. The detailed steps for this are:
i. Connect to your PC via ActiveSync
ii. Click "Explore" in ActiveSync
iii. Open "My Windows Mobile-based Device". You should see a dozen or so files.
iv. Drag-and-drop the files inside "jumpspl-urt.zip" into the "My Windows Mobile-based device" window, which is the root of your device.
2. Prepare a FAT32-formatted SD card with CHEEIMG.nbh (tested using 81Mb image extracted from Treo750_2_30_VF_NZ_DesktopUpdater)
i. CHEEIMG.nbh has to include the bootloader to be flashed
ii. This particular bootloader ONLY accepts SD cards or Serial, no USB connection, until you've flashed, then it supports USB.
On your device
---
1. Open "File Explorer". Browse to the root of your device.
2. Insert your SD card with CHEEIMG.nbh
3. You will need to press the bootloader key (side convenience key) while clicking on "jump-urt". Press the bootloader key 1 second BEFORE you click on "jump-urt". Keep holding the side convenience for at least 5 seconds until the bootloader screen actually appears.
4. Upgrade starts (let go of convenience key now). My device rebooted after 10 seconds and continued upgrading again. I assume this was due to the bootloader needing to be restarted.
Q&A:
Q: Can I now get rid of hermes radio from hell (1.54.30.10)?
A: No, as the radio bootloader itself won't talk to this bootloader (or any other Cheetah bootloader known to man at the moment ). Damn thing. I only downgraded bootloader to try and get rid of it.
According to summiter, someone would have to convert a Hermes bootloader to Cheetah (similar code, but different memory locations) before we can get rid of the 1.54.30.10 radio rom. Using an older bootloader like this doesn't help.
Q: Does task 2a work?
A: When tested with radio rom 1.54.30.10: No, same as hard-spl. I would've thought it would work actually, but no.
Q: How do you know this has really worked?
A: You can't flash anything other than factory roms
Q: Why would you want to load this?
A: Selling the device, sending in for warranty etc.
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried your procedure but it did not restore the original SPL.
re
When you ran the jump-urt program from File Explorer on the device, what happened?
- Were you prompted to "Run this program"? (You won't be if you've already removed the security requirements from the phone by unlocking it)
- Did it reboot to the tri-color bootloader screen?
- What did the IPL/SPL versions show? They should show already the 0.20/0.24 versions at this point.
Was the jump-urt program in the root of the device - not in "my documents"?
Hi,
My 750 is an unlocked 750 from the start. When I clicked the jump-urt program (all in root directory) from Explorer it started I was prompted to run jump-spl. I said yes then the I was booted to the tri-color screen. Bootloader update from the sdcard was immediatelt started after I press the red poweroff button. After the successful update still the bootloader showed olipro 1.4.
re
Try do the same process, but leave out the SD card. This way it will stay on the bootloader screen - can you let me know what ipl/spl versions are shown?
Still it did not work. Still showed Olipro 1.4. Anyway I gave the Treo to my sister as a gift. She does not care nor understand this bootloader problem.

Hi, Can you please confirm something. I looked at the files in the desktopupdater.zip (voafone Australia 2.18)
CHEEIMG.nbh is ony 258KB not 81MB. However, the CHEEIMG_FW.nbh file is 81MB
Do I put both CHEEIMG.nbh and CHEEIMG_FW.nbh on the SD card? or do I rename CHEEIMG_FW.nbh to CHEEIMG.nbh and put that on the SD card?
rename cheeimg_fw to cheeimg.
Finally go around to trying this. does not work for me either.
ok... but if the phone dosen't boot/start... how can i remove it?
Here's the way to remove SPL-1.40.Olinex:
1- Download the attachment from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1562747&postcount=1 and put the file JumpSPL.exe in "\My Documents" (on the Palm).
2- Download the attachment from awojtas and put the file urtspl.nb also in "\My Documents".
3- Run (from the Palm) the file JumpSPL.exe and replace 0x0000000 for 0x30080000 when asked. Then it will ask for a .nb file, select "All folders" and click on urtspl.nb and quickly press the camera button. If the device reboots, try again and be faster this time.
After this you should now see:
Palm Tr
IPL-0.20
Palm Tr
SPL-0.24.0000
Do it all again with a SD card in and whatever .nbh you want inside it and wait for flash process to finish.
That's all.
Cheers!
mabe the wrong post...but how do you UN-remove Hard SPL (aka... put it on your phone)?!
LOL
is that possible for me to use this method for my panther(treo pro) since similar system configuration for both 750 & 850
OMG it finally does work
Thanks !!!
I used CHEEIMG_FW.nbh (renamed to CHEEIMG.nbh) from 2.27 ROW Updater
And this fixed the programs folder/menu lag in factory ROM

Just use the sd card method.
Re-name the radio/rom file RAPHIMG.nbh
Copy to a clean, FAT32 formatted sd card (the main folder, i.e. root folder).
Remove sim card.
Add new sd card.
Enter bootloader (hold volume down, soft re-set).
Hit power button when prompted.
Wait ~3 min til it's done, and the screen tells you that ROM update was a success, then soft re-set.
Do a hard reset when you're at the screen alignment step (if this was a rom update; if it's a radio update, you're good to go after the soft reset); remember to remove card with the rom image (and get the image off of there).
Now you're done; it's a lot easier than flashing with a pc connection. This all assumes you have hard spl installed and a security unlock if you're flashing a non-raph radio.
Hi,
Do I need to connect device to power supply or upgrade just with current battery charge?
Thanks a lot for Your info.
I've flashed with my fuze plugged into the wall outlet, but you should always have at least 50% battery charge.

Rom update guide, what is missing?

Hi everyone,
I have had this new xperia and love it, I have decided I would like to update my rom but want to make sure I have not missed anything.
If it's not to much to ask can someone let me know if this guide is missing any steps.
my phone and me are both virgins.
Thanks
------------------------------------
Preperation:
1. First lets download all that you will need in order to flash your rom.
Hard_SPL_X1_V1-
And of course download any custom rom made for the X1 of your choice...that is all you will need!
2. Extract the HardSPL somewhere on your pc, you might aswell extract the rom file somewhere on your pc too.
3. Connect your phone via activesync to your pc
4. When you are connected, (I let it finish synchronising one last time, to ensure all of the data on my pc was up to date with the current data on my phone), you then go to where you extracted "X1_HardSPL.exe" and you run it...
5. Follow the instructions at some point it should say something like "Image Version: 1.02.111.7" to "1.00.X1"
When asked, press "Yes" on the X1
6. - Now a Tri-color screen should show up, showing some version Information
After that, a progressbar screen will be shown and the phone will reboot when finished
Click "Finish" on the PC
(To check if you succeeded, turn the device off (long power button press). Then hold the volume down button and turn the device on again, still holding the volume down button until the Tri-color screen shows up. It should read something like:
KOVS110
SPL-0.72.OliNex
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707)
Remove and reinsert the battery to exit bootloader mode
You completed the first step and are now able to flash any ROM you want to your X1! (Well, at least any ROM made for the X1 of course ;-))
Steps 2-6 need only to be done once...from here on forward should you wish to flash another rom you do not need to install HardSPL again as it is already on your phone.
Flashing your Rom (The fun begins):
7. Rename the rom file you downloaded from whatever.nbh (usually it is ruu_signed.nbh) to Kovsimg.nbh (you can rename it on your pc or on your phone once you have transferred it over)
8. Start up the phone normally, if you have not already done so...then connect it to your pc...(at this point you can connect it without activesync, just as a memory card reader so that you can copy over your rom faster)
Copy your rom into the root of the memory card.
(You can also use any external memory card reader/writer connected to the pc and copy over the file)
Remeber to make sure all files have been deleted off your memory card.
9. Insert the memory card into the phone (You never know somebody might forget to do it :-S )
10. Turn off the phone completely, not standby mode (USB cable must not be attached)
11. Remove and reinsert the battery (This step can be skipped if you made sure you turned off the phone in step 10, this is just in case somebody put the phone in standby instead)
12. Hold down the volume down button and press the power button while still holding both of these buttons until the tri-color screen pops up.
13. Follow the onscreen instructions (It should install the rom +-5mins)
14. When you see the screen say "Succesfully updated", you can then go ahead and remove the battery and reinsert it.
Getting ready to see results (one last step):
Do not skip this step!!! This may result in errors!!!
15. Do a hard reset : Hold down the two silver buttons directly under the screen, while holding them down push the power button, you should then be presented with a screen that asks you to press "R" to reset your device....so go ahead and flip open the keyboard and press "R", when it completes it will ask you to press "Spacebar" to restart the device...go ahead..
16. You are done!
You have now flashed your rom....after it restarts please note the first time it starts up again will take longer than normal, you will be presented with all the normal setup's as you first did when you got your phone...
Like stylus setup and time and date etc...
With this particular rom that I flashed approximately 3/4mins after getting to the today screen a notification came up asking me to choose my operator and it then installed all the necessary connection settings for me....
You may also be asked to restart the device once more after the initial startup of the new rom, this is because upon first start up the rom may install some additional programs / cabs / tweaks which the "cooker" has cooked into the rom....
I cant think of anything more at this point, I tried to be as detailed as possible with this guide and use as much lame-man's terms as possible to make it clear and understandable....
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to post under this thread and I will answer to the best of my knowledge...
Once again thanks to XDA-Developers from whom I have learnt all of the above....

I know I want winmo 6.5 and htc touch.

The only way to know which ROM is best for you is to try each of them out and see how it "fits" your personality.
Enjoy flashing!
I have not had time to do the rom flash, and might find a few hours tomorrow.
I have one last question, has any one done flashed a virgin phone in windows 7?
thanks
Need some assistance, I'm at the step where I have copied the rom to my sd card, I have renamed it to Kovsimg.nbh
I hold volume down and power on, i get a message no image file found.
I'm trying to use Jack_3.5b_Full.
I have formated the the flash memory to fat32, the rom is the only file on the card.
I have started the phone and I can see the memory card ok and the flash file.
Does any one have any idea's?
Thanks
