I need a simple redialer program - Touch Diamond CDMA

Is there something that will detect a busy signal and redial? I've searched around and download a couple of things and none of them work for me. I'm looking for something to call radio stations, etc that are constantly busy.

GPS Fix for Google Maps?

I know ppl use GPS test to get the GPS to be activated then launch google maps afterwards, is there not a reg key or another way other than having to launch 2 apps to get one to work?

The reason people are using another app to initialize the GPS is because Google Maps default timeout is riduclously low. As someone who has read 99% of the GPS-related posts in the Kaiser forum, I do not believe there is any other way to do it.
That being said, I am far from a master of Windows Mobile, so if someone knows different, please correct me.
Treo is right. the google time out is pretty shallow, and and about 25-30 seconds. Just use Live Search, its a lot better in terms of the amount of crap it allows you to search for.
Plus, the time out isn't as shallow's as google. As long as you have COM4 selected you'll get a signal within 50-60 seconds from a soft reset. Otherwise once the port is already open its a matter of seconds.
Hmm... strange...
With Google maps installed, I have a GPS signal within about 10 seconds (7 or so), but with Windows Live I don't connect for almost 1 minute. I personally was thinking the new "my location" feature was helping the GPS in some way to narrow the search area.
I have also noticed that I can get a signal within my house without much trouble using google, but again Live Search rarely hooks up.
Am I alone in this finding?

what rom and radio are you using?
1.62.502.0 ROM
1.27.14.09 RADIO
Don't get me wrong, I'm not unhappy with it! I could care less if the GPS works in my house, I think I've mastered the bathroom and kitchen locations
Just noting an opposing observation I've had with my phone in the Portland Oregon Area.
Another observation I've had (it's been a few months since I have used Live Search) is that I can't find a person's house using the Live Search, while I can using the Google.
Finally, I find neither program really what I'd like - Google's only real downfall in my eyes is the lack of auto-updates when not on course (Live Search does this with a prompt). Live search fails because I know products can be faster to get the satellites, as well as lack of residential directions. Google also loads faster, and is the only one that could find the Intel location I work at (one of the largest and well known, would figure it's in both services!) Google also has the aerial view which is nice when trying to figure out massive parking lots (such as at an Intel Campus). Live Search won a few points back because I liked the movies listings, buggy voice searching and auto-updates, but not enough to make me use the product. I will probably be loading it up again sometime before the summer though just to see what sort of progress they have.
And that stoopid connection error poop
I have just gotten used to opening QuickGPS weekly, and gps tool each time. It takes just a few seconds to open GPSTool and start the thing, then close it, and most apps will work after that.
I find GoogleMaps to be poorly designed, albeit free. My biggest issue by far is the connection error. There's a place on the way to work where Google maps just stops, throws a "you have to have a connection" error, and the only option is quit. I quit, immediately restart, and it works from there. I've had that error in some very densely populated areas (River Oaks is the highest price homes, you can bet they have cell antennas in abundance around there, yet it happened around there yesterday.) If it needs to download maps, it can just keep tracking, and get the map when it can, or mention "waiting for map". Idealy you'd be able to cache, best would be able to define certain areas, and it wouldnt even have to download the maps if they havent updated.
Dont get me wrong, as usual Google has done some neat work here, but there are disctint design flaws that make it nearly unusable. So much so that if I dont need the traffic, and just want to see streets, I use tomtom.

The question is not WHY people open GPSTest before opening Google Maps.
The question is how to open both apps via a script, batch file, etc...
I would also like to know if it is possible....

Dial-Up Connection

Hey guys! New here, just got my Kaiser. And I apologize if this has been posted before, but I searched and found WAY to many results, and was having a hard time narrowing down.
Does anyone know how to use DIALUP on the Kaiser? I have my dialup number and set it up as a connection, but it always fails.
I was just curious to get this to work as I currently dont have a dataplan because most places I go have WIFI - cept to and from work, so it would be nice just to hop on and burn some minutes just reading the news.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Actually, since I am here I might as well post other questions that I have thought of:
Is there a way to use the GPS without paying a monthly fee VIA a different program? AND is a dataplan needed for that?
Is there a way to use my currently Motorola HS850 headset to listen to music, etc?
Is there away to have the alarm on the phone sound even if I have the phone on silent? I have always used my cells as my alarm clock, but I need to turn the ringer off at work, and sometimes forget when i get home.
Again, I apologize if any of these have been posted. But if someone is more familar with the search functions on this forum, hopefully you can direct me to the right place.
Thanks in advance!
from what i've been told Att disabled your ability to use dial up, so if you've got att service you're sol. if not then ya might get an answer from someone else...
gps you can use it over the net...but either you need a data plan or else pay per use on the net kb's...
i dont know what the hs850 is. however there are many adapters from mini usb to whatever. i just picked one up for mini usb to 3.5mm headphone jack/usb, works great.
Yeah. I just grabbed a USB off ebay!

Manual Cellular Tower Selection

I live waaaay, way out in the boonies, where I have no real way to get high speed internet at all. I realized that I could pay another 30 bucks a month for internet on the phone, but figured I'd get the same crappy, 56K BS that I'd always gotten out here.
And sure enough, run a simple speed check, I end up with 7.8K, not too shabby, and slightly better than I expected, but at least I had internet again. I go to start a file download after browsing for a while, and to my disbelief it skyrocketted up to 150Kbps, and I didn't quite figure understand how, until I researched just how fast HSDPA is.
Now! This is relevant, because the phone's comm manager only gives me the option of "3g on" and "automatic". Automatic only allows me to give the phone control over which signal it prefers, not the one I'm looking for intentionally. And when connected to an H-Tower with one bar, is still 6 times better than an E tower with three bars.
I'm trying to make it stay on an H-Tower no matter what. How do I accomplish this? Via a pay-program, or whichever.
Answered own question. here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2535996
Had to log in before I could search, and google brought up nothing, or else I would of asked. I'll leave it up so that maybe someone else who's searching the same way I had will find this.

Networking help, gmote related

i have been playing with this application for the past 4 hours
and it will JUST NOT connect! im pretty sure ive reached that point
where you keep trying everything u can, but eventually you end up with
a web of mistakes and have no idea where to begin to finish...so, lets
get to it...
- i am at school. i live across the street from campus, far enough to
where my g1 wont pick up the wifi signal, so configuring the app via
wifi isnt even an option...
so i go to the FAQs and there seems to be a way to operate the program
via the cell network without using a router...great because i dont
have one...but when i read the instructions, it starts telling me
stuff ABOUT a router...
"2.Log into your router and go to the port forwarding section (it
might be called NAT settings, or Application and Gaming). "
...where am i supposed to go to do this? i have set up ICS, i have
googled google for "port forwarding" "nat settings" "nat configuration
in windows xp", ive even used the BS help and support that comes with
windows, im going nowhere. can somebody PLEASE help me figure this
out? i want to use gmote over t-mobiles internet connection, and it seems like you can do this from what the FAQs told me...any help will be appreciated
Yeah the faq doesn't make sense, have you tried the developer directly or checking their google group? They are pretty quick to respond
On my home pc i just needed to know the ip addresss of my machine. Since this is a campus network, its possible that only particular ports are open. the port that gmote uses may be blocked.
The FAQ is a little confusing, but its not that difficult to work out
That is true, given that bittorrent and Ares are known for not running on campus...how do I figure out what ports ARE open?? I guess google will help
cant you just connect to the ip number of your computer?
Thats what Im trying to do, but Im now assuming that the ports are blocked because I cant get thru no matter what. I ran netstat and tried to figure it out but it was Russian to me
From what I understand of the program, you have to be on the same network. I may be wrong, but if you are on a different subnet, then you're SOL.
Like I said, could be wrong, but that's what I heard.

Does IM suck on Android, or is it just me?

I'm leaning pretty strong towards the former, but let me just say I am a *BIG* fan of Android. I bought the ADP1, and gave that to my wife when I switched to T-Mo & bought the MT3G. Both are great devices, and I run cm on them. Overall I have a great experience with these phones & they're super fun & convenient.
But on both devices, both when I had the ADP1 on AT&T and with the MT3G with T-Mo, (where I live I have to roam off of AT&T, so it's using the same towers as before.) all IM apps stink because they cannot stay connected. This is including the built-in gtalk & sms-based IM apps and every other free one on the market that I've tried. IM+, Meebo, eBuddy, Aimer, Hi Aim/Yahoo, imov, Palringo, all fail to keep a session open. I'm almost certain it's something with Android, because it's the same on mobile networks as with wifi, and I've used BlackBerrys on the very same networks & locations and not had this problem. At all.
So what gives? I'm not gonna pay for a chat app, even if that would solve the problem. These apps are free on BlackBerry, and I have a spare BB that I can swap my sim card into if I have to & just use the MT3G as a MID where I have wifi available. I'd love to jump in and try to write a chat app for Android that fixes this problem, but I'm at best a n00b dev & don't know where to begin. If there's someone out there with some guidance on how to get started on that, or if the problem is specific to something with me/my devices, or can explain this so I can understand the problem if not solve it, or any other input at all I'd love to get your feedback.
Maybe it's you or something up with your service
Maybe it's you, something up with your service, or your particular phones. Where my parents live, nothing works but ATT. I've had two BB which I couldn't even receive a signal.
Then when I moved up to the Dash and then to the wing, I received one bar and I could get all of my services to work, even the IM services. When I moved to the G1, two bars.
Now, with the MyTouch, I get three bars and all of my apps which require the network work. IM, text, phone. The blackberry wouldn't even get a signal let alone IM.
So maybe it has something to do with the service and the phone.
wierd thing is, at the very same location & networks, both wap & wifi, i get a completely different result on the mt3g than i do on the bb. there has to be something wrong with the android network stack or how IM apps use it or something.
hopefully i'm not speaking too soon...
... but i may have fixed my problem. i was thinking about how Android puts applications to sleep if it's low on memory, so i changed my userinit.sh script to enable swap. been logged in all afternoon. we'll see how well this continues...
confirmed resolution
enabling swap fixed the problem. apparently Android system tells the chat apps to shut down to free up ram & they can no longer keep their sessions open.
thanks for the hint.
Thought about this a lot but didn't want to try.
Now I'll have to... Thanks
i used to use ebuddy on my htc magic.
and now i use the built in google voice/chat with my milestone.
both have been great for me...especially the latter. I dont even need to log on or anythnig. its just like recieving text messages
Now i have 256 megs of ram size. everything works just fine. more than that. minimal lag on switching apps and tabs(highest so far was 4 seconds)
Hello guiz. I am completely new with how to tweak the innards of my MyTouch.
What is this "swapping" you guys are talking about and how do you activate it?
Does it really help keep the AIM session connected despite being in the background?
I've always knew of the problem that causes AIM to constantly sign off when I try
using it, but never knew how to address the source issue.
Thanks for reply!
