A couple of people asked for the pdfviewer app from the haykuro builds. I don't think this is a paid app so I think its ok to upload here.
If not, somebody let me know and I'll remove it.
EDIT:
Added libpdfreader.so. Push this to /system/lib
Add FilePicker.apk. Push to /system/app
probably won't work on pre-cupcake images..
Just in case anyone was wondering - this doesn't work on a stock R33 build.

This PDF-viewer didn't work on haykuros 5.0.1G r3.
Failed on latest RC9 also.
Forced closed on latest JF RC9...

Why would you not tell us what library? just end your one line comment with an emoticon smirk, nice.
PDFViewer uses FileViewer.apk and /system/lib/pdfreader.so
Updates
Any other tips on how to get this to work? I know I'm not the only one looking for a way to view PDFs on the G1.

I uploaded the library.
I tried to copy the file into /system/lib
looks like I ran out of space
so can not put the .so file into it. Any suggestion?
update:
I removed/replaced some apps from the /system/app with adb command.
so I free up about 4MB space on the phone.
And I did installed the pdf viewer & push the .so file into the /system/lib now is working fine.
what I removed:
HTCAlbum.apk ( there is other Gallery app )
Mail.apk ( I am using K9 mail )
what I replaced
Camera.apk
HTCLauncher.apk
Hope it will help ( I am running 5.0.2Hr3 )
I've testet it on Haykuros 5.0.1G r3.
Only the .apk causes an error message. After pushing the libary to /system/lib , there is no error message.
But after starting the viewer, the device changed automaticly to the homescreen and doesn't start.
There must be something missing ?
edit:
Only starting the App doesn't work. But if I select an PDF, it works !!!
Thank you dwang
Btw, don't try it on the newer 1.5 ADP builds. When you launch a pdf, the application realizes it's not on an HTC-branded firmware and uninstalls itself (leaving only the library file in /system/lib).

Yeah i noticed this last night, its driving me nuts because pdf viewing is essential to me
hhahahha! It does uninstall itself! That's kind of funny... Not so much when it happened though. I ended up using dude's .9 build and all works well. No bugs for me...
So the question is: by what means is it detecting who built the firmware? Could it be as simple as /system/build.prop?

So this won't work on JF1.5?
Broken for me on JFv1.5. Showed the "This app only works on HTC devices" and uninstalled itself.
damn!
should have read the thread first.
it's a shame that it doesn't work. it's the best pdf reader out there for now.
any ideas how we can fix this?

Same here.....
Well...for the last month or so I have been modifying things and trying to figure out how to port MyFaves App to another build besides the T-Mobile 1.5 Cupcake CRB43 and the JFv1.5 CRB43-US. Just tonight I tried to email myself the myfaves odex file info. I went into the myfaves app and info through root explorer on my G1. I then copied all the text in the odex file and tried to email it to myself.Everytime I pasted the text and tried to send it my Gmail App would freeze up. Anyways...My attempt at this is to email myself the files and try to compress them into a .zip file with everything and see if it will work to be ported to other builds. Right now I am at a stand still and at a dead end but I am still trying.I know a lot of people here think it is impossible but me being in the Army, I think anything is possible,it just takes time and effort. If you want to help me out or give any info let me in on it. I appreciate all help and any positive suggestions. I have come a LONG way with this in the last month. I've come a long way from(dare I say) being a noob. I am now trying to develop things and get into this a little more.Once again...any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Do you have adb set up? You can pull the .odex file and the .apk file using that.

Hmmm....interesting,I haven't tried that yet but I am going to set up ADB on my laptop as soon as I get home from work.I totally forgot about that. Thanks for your help,if you would liek to come in to this with me and help out or anything let me know. I am patiently working on this and hope to have this accomplished in the next few weeks. If I could get MyFaves ported to a Hero build...WOW,lot's of people may use it more often.I know it takes up a lot of space but I like using MyFaves just as a quick reference for my fave 5. Anyways...thanks again man!
SUCCESS! SUCCESS! SUCCESS!
I finally have ported the MyFaves App and the MyFaves.odex to a hero build. If you would like to check it out go to Dream/Android Development. You have to flash the ROM but it has the MyFaves App! Check it out guys!
So we've found the app/widget now we just need help installing the widget... Any help
-Just take off the .zip and enjoy
Code:
adb remount
adb push HtcFootprints.apk /system/app/HtcFootprints.apk
adb push HtcFootprints.odex /system/app/HtcFootprints.odex
adb shell reboot
Anyone happen to have the apk and odex? I can't find them in any my old Hero builds and would like to use program and widget... Thanks!!!
Ah bummer, I finally find the Footprints.apk and it force closes as soon as it starts on CM 3.6.5

beware,

I tried installing just HTC footprints apk and odex via adb just got errors. Might try again later.
I am using a hero Rom on a magic.
i was able to get the odex to the app_s but when i install the widget it gives me error
"Failure [Install_Failed_Dexopt]"
If anyone knows what that means can you please help? Thank You
Yeah that's what I get when trying to install just the normal app from that zip. Can't figure it out as of yet.
When I install the. Apk from this thread it at least installs but crashes on opening. I think we are missing something

Thats weird bc i've used this footprints i've uploaded the whole time and still use it without it crashing. what error do you get when it crashes?
Try this.
adb remount
adb push HtcFootprints.apk /system/app/HtcFootprints.apk
adb push HtcFootprints.odex /system/app/HtcFootprints.odex
adb shell reboot
I was pushing to /system/app_s/ originally and that's what kept giving me the error. I don't know the difference between app and app_s, maybe app_s is just a system link or something.
Anyways, pushed the odex and apk for footprints and the widget, and it works, no crashing so far. widget works too.
it gives me a error: Read-only file system.
and even when i try in rootmanager it wont let me change it to r/w it stays on r/o
Hello, all,
I have recently taken an interest in developing Android 2.1 ROMs. So far, my work on 2.1 has been going well, except I cannot seem to get Android Market to install. I have tried re-signing the apk file, but the result is the same.
Can someone help me out on this? This has probably been answered before, but I cannot find anything truly relevant to this question. Any help is greatly appreciated.
someone needs to close this thread before this flame war gets any bigger

Have you tried just pushing with adb? By development do you mean cooking or compiling your own?
Please be respectful of others ...
I taken the time to cleanup this thread and move to Q&A where it should have been. If someone has an answer post a reply; plans to respond using trolling tactics are ill-advised.
If the thread goes OT again, a moderator will be forced to close it and likely remove it ... would be nice if it didn't have to come to that.
Regards,
I am building this directly from AOSP, from scratch. Thanks to the mod for cleaning up the flame war, by the way
Oh, from AOSP. How are you adding them in? AOSP does NOT include the Google Apps by default, I'm not expert in ROM building but I am sure there are some .libs needed (I know GTalk requires some) and possibly need the other Google Apps as well.
And this is why I love this place . What you said about libraries and what carz12 said about adb helped a lot.
Here is what I knew:
AOSP does not include the Google Apps, including the market. The market is somewhat difficult to install to an aosp build, and I think needs to be resigned with another RSA key.
What the forum helped me figure out:
The advice about trying the adb shell gave me some help. When I tried to push the market app to the phone, I got this:
./adb install alpha-1-signed/system/app/Vending.apk
898 KB/s (1274068 bytes in 1.384s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Vending.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY]

This tells me that I am missing some libraries. But I'm also missing some other stuff. I'll recompile from source, install the libraries, and report back after I flash this to the phone. Until then, if anyone thinks any of my conclusions are wrong, please tell me so I don't waste my time, or yours.
EDIT: For all of you who are currently viewing this thread, how many of you would like a very fast (possibly faster than OpenEclair), stable, no-frills Android 2.1 ROM? I would like your opinions, because this will give me a good idea of how many people would be interested in this kind of thing.

It's good to know that you are missing libraries
Your best bet is to compile your rom, and then compare it to a rom that already has the google apps included (WesGarner build, CSDI, etc...) and see what libs are missing from yours, add them in and then try again
I was having the same problem too. I am gonna try this too.
And ya besides the libraries, the aosp build doesn't include some of the framework files and permission files too, like the framework files relating to gtalk and google maps should be added as well to the system/framework folder and the permission files in system/etc/permissions relating to gtalk and maps should be added as well.
I tried with all the missing libraries but with no luck...there must be some other files tooo. Gonna continue on Thursday.
Did you try resigning the apk file?
Not really. I am gonna try that too. Got coll tomorrow so may be later tomorrow. By the way did you got the video working?? I tried pushing some libraries from supereclair. But not workin till date. it works in his build though.
College is more important than android, imho. whenever you get the chance .
I hope to get video working in the future, but not right now. My primary computer (the core i7 rig I use for all my computer work) needed an OS reinstall, so I have made no progress since my post on ADB. My fist priority is to get the basics working, then I'll work on the other issues, like video playback and the camera. However, as of right now, I am re-downloading the source, and hopefully building it in the very near future, expect an update tomorrow, and maybe even a finished product (keep in mind that this is ALPHA, so don't expect anything wonderful).
Alright, I got it... mostly. The market appears installed, now all I need to do is make it not crash. Whenever I select the market app, I get a white screen, and then the home screen. I'm also getting a force close on the gapps process. What am I doing wrong
How did you got market show up???
The gapps framework file is also missin in the /system/framework folder in AOSP build.
Did you tried pushing the missing file?
I downloaded openeclair, pulled all the apps that had the word google in them, resigned the the market with another key, integrated them into a rom package, flashed, and voila, the market appears. I also added in a couple framework files, but I think I'm still missing something. Do you know what the name of the file is? I'm not sure what or where it is.

ya its com.google.android.gtalkservice.jar
okay, added it in, still getting a force close on the gapps. Where to go now???
As i mentioned earlier there are some files missing in system/etc/permissions. Did u tried pushing those files.
All permission files are in place, all gapps are resigned. The framework is in place. The setup wizard i also resigned, which now crashes. If anyone has any suggestions please post them. I am at my wit's end here.
I was wondering if it would be possible to take the Messaging .apk from a 2.1 ROM, and push it onto a 2.2 ROM, replacing the 2.2 Messaging app. I don't really like the 2.2 one, as it lags for me, and I can't really change the font sizes or anything.
Also, is it possible to take a 2.1 LatinIME.apk and do the same thing? These are the only two things that I don't really like about Froyo ROMs, because they are both slow on my phone.
Thanks!
I'm no dev or anything so I'm not 100% sure but I think it can be done. I just don't know if it would run I read somewhere where people tried to push apps from a different build and it FC's when the app starts. Also, I was looking into getting the froyo messager on a donut rom to see how it would run and i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752604. I opened it up to see what files we're flashed to get this and it's just the mms.apk. So I'm guessing what you said can be done by getting the mms.apk from a Eclair rom and push it into your system/app/ folder, The question is will it run though?

I think I'm just gonna try it. I'll adb pull the original MMS.apk first, and if the pushed one doesn't work, I'll just push the original back in.
EDIT: Nope, doesn't work.
