Flashed 1.4 recovery img no more recovery mode. - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed the 1.4 recovery image from terminal emu.
Here is what I'm running.
CM 4.1.8
radio 2.22.19.26
Now when I hold home and end it shows the G1 logo then goes black shows the G1 logo again then black then nothing happens. no text or anything. The lights on the keys do light up but nothing happens.
Any insight?

reflash the recovery image. do you have adb installed?

I have a similar problem. I was using EnochXTra, and went straight to the part where you flash the "1.6 recovery image". I figured it would wipe the theme off, and then I could flash Cyanogen's 4.1.99. But now when I hold "home", I get a screen that has (description) "a triangle with a "!" in the center of it, facing a phone laying down" (end description). If I don't hold home, I get to where it says "Android" and it starts cycling (not rebooting, just the word "android"'s animation freezing, flickering off for a split second, then resuming). in both situations I have to pull the battery to get out of them.
Anyone know where I failed and how badly?

Cam + Power? Yeah, I can. It's the only thing i can reach.

how exactly did you flash this "1.6 recovery image"?

I changed the name to "update.zip", rebooted while holding "home", then applied "update.zip from sdcard".
... I screwed up big time didn't I?

No that's the correct way to do it. Just making sure you didn't flash_image recovery ........zip in the terminal. Since you can reach the bootloader (Camera+Power) follow THIS

K, I managed to flash the update.zip, and now my phone works. I renamed cyanogen's rom to update.zip, but under the recovery mode menu (the one with the triangle and "!"), I don't get a list of options, but when I go "alt+S" (like I did earlier) it "tries" to flash but gives up less than a second later. Also alt+W wipes and reboots.
While it's working, I installed cyanogen's updater, but when it tries to get root, nothing happens. Did I just unroot my phone?

Do you have USB Debugging enabled?

Yes. When I checked, it was enabled by default.

hmmmm. and what rom are you running?

http://developer.htc.com/adp.html
I used the recovery image as per cyanogen's instructions for version 4.1.99.

ah ok, have you installed 4.1.99 yet? ADP1 handles root requests a little differently.

No. While at the recovery screen (with the triangle and "!"), i have the update for cyanogen at the / of the sdcard named update.zip (like I have for all roms I've used), but alt+S won't do anything.

can you do this?
1) Goto the market and download "Telnet"
2) Open Telnet and connect to localhost : 23
3) type su (enter)
4) type flash_image recovery cm-recovery-1.4.img (enter)
5) Press the home button

I don't see anything that says "spl".

look at the sticky for fastboot, you need to use fastboot to flash cm-recovery-1.4.img

Load of Problems Tonight..Help Please

Ok well I downloaded a 1.6 update and flashed it to my G1 from the Android Dev website off a link I found. It turned my phone into a 'Dev Phone 1' and just seemed to add the new market. Well I decided to go with it and through my day I started to have my first problem. When my phone was locked and I pressed the menu key with the *keyboard slide in* they keys would light up but the screen would stay off. I had to lock the phone back up and slide the keyboard open then press menu to see what I was doing.
I decided to just flash back another ROM i had on the card, and I noticed the 1.4 recovery was gone and it was back to stock looking. Well I got home and none of the ROMS would flash, from early customs to newest. It just aborted after 'verifying'. So I decided to try the Unroot my phone thing to just start all over. After putting the .nbh file on the sdcard and booting into camera/power It just wouldnt load up. I dont know what to do..
Also they phone will not boot up into regular or recovery mode with the screen on unless the keyboard is open
If you have root cant you just download the terminal emulator and reflash cyans 1.4 recovery.
^^Im not sure how to do that exactly
do you have ADB installed on your pc?
Yup I have it on my computer
I would suggest getting Amon_RA's recovery image. It is nearly the same as Cyanogens recovery, only with more options. You can get it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
turn phone off
connect usb cable to pc
turn phone on with Menu+Power to boot into fastboot
load your cmd window up and navigate to your adb directory
(you can make sure its ready by typing fastboot devices. this should list your phone)
from there type the following
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-dream-v1.2.2.img
Then reboot your phone into recovery Home+Power to make sure it took. If it does not take, I don't know what to tell you.

actually if his radio isnt flashed right.......
leave it on that screen for a few minutes. if it doesnt work, try booting into bootloader. you can use your nandroid restore to fastboot the phone into working condition. if it doesnt.....i hope theres another solution..
can you see anything from adb logcat
press alt + l at that screen, it should show the recovery log (as well as shortcuts for wiping and rebooting).

I don't think the stock recovery has the g1 phone at the bottom. it just has a triangle and exlaimation mark iirc. does the image have an arrow going towards the phone?
if it indeed is the stock recovery, then yes, press alt+l to see the options.
However, if you had a custom recovery such as RA or cyanogens, then the 1.6 recovery from htc shouldnt have touched it.
what phone do you have? if its rogers, it *COULD* be bricked.
can you get into bootloader? Cam+power? can you boot into the rom? youve given hardly ANY details that could help use pinpoint the problem

Stuck @ Fastboot

Hey guys, sorry for a new post. I did a search and wasn't totally sure about what i found so i figured i'd start a new post and get some help.
I bought a nexus off a guy for cheap but it was stuck at the fast boot (?) screen
image
the trackball doesnt work so i cant select anything. the only thing i can do is pull the battery out to shut it down. what can i do to fix this phone? I have no idea what to do to an android. I switched yesterday from wm6.5 so you're going to have to explain everything.
thank you!
You search the forums. That's what you do.
Trackball might be effed up. Replace that
That phone is unlocked
You get to that screen by holding down the trackball when you press power. (Like the above poster said)
Make sure the volume buttons or the trackball are not stuck in a pressed state.
I thought to navigate that screen you use the volume button and power button to select. Trackball doesn't work in that menu

thanks for the helpful comments guys. :]
i meant to also add that none of the buttons work either, volume or power button. i tried to flash amonra's recovery thru cmd prompt but i couldnt do much after that. i couldnt get into the adb prompt. it says the device isnt found, although fastboot promt found the device fine. anyway so after i flash the amonra recovery img i can't get into recovery mode. holding the power and vol down button gets me to the hboot (i believe it is?) but again, i cant navigate the menu with any buttons to put it into recovery mode so i'm pretty much stuck here.
and just to clarify, I have done a few searches as i've said and I didnt feel sure enough that the problems mentioned were my problem so that is why I'm asking for help here.
You should not go to any forum and feel bad for posting or have to say over and over that you did a search. There are many people that can do better and some will show up, hopefully with answers that are not painful to someone who has purchased a new phone... cheap. I would flash amon ra which you can do adb without using any of the phone hardware buttons and then see where you are at. There are many posts on installing amon ra and the instructions are also in the offical thread. With any luck you just have a hosed recovery and the flash will get you rolling.
Can you not navigate the fastboot/hboot screen with the volume buttons? If not then you're gonna run into serious problems. Make sure both the volume buttons and trackball are clear. You can clean the trackball by pressing it in with a piece of cloth and pushing it in different directions while pressed in, this should clear most of the junk on it.
You can also clean the volume buttons and power button a little better by removing the battery cover. Good luck bud.
trackball+power -> fastboot mode.
volume+power -> recovery mode. if you see androids on skates you have the stock recovery.
trackball+volume+power held = reboot
Recovery, boot etc can be flashed from fastboot only.
just to clarify, the first thing that pops up when i press just the power button is the fastboot. i dont have to press anything else, just power.
i flashed amonra recovery img while i was on fastboot mode from my computer (cmd i used was fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1.img) and it was successful.
Then i tried to put it into recovery mode w the command adb shell reboot recovery. It said that the device wasn't connected.
when i input the cmd fastboot devices i see my device connected, but when i input adb devices it says its not connected.
So i figured I'd put it into recovery mode on my phone by pressing volume+power. I get to the hboot screen with the three androids on skateboards (i realize the screen looks the same as fastboot but the selectable options here are different) but the volume buttons, trackball, power buttons don't work so i can't select "recovery" on the phone.
so this is where i'm stuck
It sounds like you have a stuck or f..d up trackball.
P_
I have the same problem has anyone figured out a solution?

You cannot use ADB commands when you are in the bootloader (i.e., fastboot) screen. You need to be booted into the ROM or into the recovery for those commands to work.
What I find difficult to understand is how come your volume buttons work to boot into the bootloader, but don't work once you are there?
Try flashing each partition from a stock FRG33 ROM (from here). Unzip the files, and flash the boot, system and data images using fastboot (e.g., fastboot flash system system.img) and then try to reboot normally.

[Q] G1 always rooting back to HBOOT/Fastboot Screen

Hi All,
i had rooted my G1(32B) long time back with new SPL and Recovery. I was running Froyo by lazzo lately. but yesterday suddenly it started behaving weird. I was not able to give any sort of input in touch screen or use the physical buttons(scroll, end button etc). So i switched off my mobile by pulling battery. Later once i added battery, it always goes to Fastboot/Hboot screen irrespective of button i press. Its not going to recovery screen also.
The screen display below details at top.

and details of commands and 3 slating Androids at bottom. Here also screen none of commands mentioned works like "Menu = power off, Send = reset". It only goes to HBoot mode and when pressed "back" button give the spl/recovery details.
I had installed ADB in my system but didnt tried anything until i get some suggestion from experts. So wanted to know whether i bricked my phone. ?
Can i recovery back my mobile with some instruction or flashing radio image etc. Please help. I badly need you guys suggestion.
What was the last thing you did before it goes like that?
Hi
i removed battery as i wanted to change the phone sim. after that i switched on.and it went to Rom's lockscreen. then it started working weird as mentioned above so i removed battery again
When booting up, try holding home+power key. See if it goes into Recovery mode.
hi,
i followed your suggestion and it is not going to Recovery screen at all and always goes back to Fastboot mode. I followed ezterry's suggestion
"If you find yourself stuck without recovery!!
Dream
1) Download: orange-1.58.73.2.nbh (MD5: aca4dee0c1ece7e9773f2ecbdfbba7c0) (mirror)
2) enter fastboot and run 'fastboot flash nbh orange-1.58.73.2.nbh'
3) wait for the entire nbh to flash
4) boot into the bootloader again (it will be an engineering SPL 1.42.2000)
5) You can now re-flash the radio/hboot/recovery via fastboot that you wish to have installed."
Everything went fine and then i re-flash the radio/hboot/recovery via fastboot as mentioned above.
But still i cannot get into recovery screen. i tried many times and only once i was able to see recovery screen but it didnt hold up for long time(i mean it went off after seconds).
So what should i do ?
Try it again, this time flash the latest radio/SPL. Also, reflash Amon RA using ADB.

G1 keeps Looping, Can't access recovery mode.

Ok, recently I rooted a g1 version 1.6 ( Donut), I downloaded Rom Manager. I downloaded their recovery so I can boot up in recovery mode and do a factory reset. But I couldn't do to the fact that when I pressed the back + power bottom it didn't boot up in recovery mode, I tried also pressing the down volume + power didn't work neither, tried up volume + power didn't worked neither, all of the 3 tries fails. the back + power sends me to the bootloader mode. and the others don't work.
So tried to download a custom ROM, while that happened I forgot about it and decided to change the sim card to another carrier, I did not know if the download was finish or not. But when I changed my sim card and tried to turn it on the the phone started to loop in the G1 LOGO, i know its not brick, but some how I cant do a factory reset.
Because I was not able to start the g1 in recovery mode, I wasn't able to factory reset. So what is left to do? Can someone guide me, Please.

Thats all my G1 shows in the bootloader. Can you actually update the radio, or bootloader, to a more updated version, or to a old version so that way it might lose the root, or so that it can return to a state where u can access the recovery mode.
You said you can access bootloader. Then using fastboot push recovery. For best results erase the sd card before putting recovery file in sd root. In fastboot do an "erase system r-w" and then push recovery. Hopefully it will work.
If you dont know what fastboot is or how to use it, you should thoroughly search and study fastboot guides for G1 in XDA.

what happened exactly when you prssed Home+Power? did you get a yellow triagngle and this thing ! ?
if you did that means you have stock recovery, you need to hold 'alt' and press 'L' on the keyboard to access recovery options..
so try that and tell me if you get anything to happen.?

no, i did not receive that, i cant access recovery mode by pressing back+ power.
@ dhacker809 - Reading your OP, one thing that you should not have done (happens to me when I first started) was trying to use ROM Manager. It will lock you out of Recovery mode. Amon RA is the best recovery option from my experience.
If Camera+Power option works, I would suggest that you re-flashed nbh file and start from there.
BTW back+power will not give you recovery mode.
