I've tried a bunch and there always seems to be issues. Freezing/battery hogs/ wayy too much garbage.
What I'm looking for is a clean rom, with pretty basic stuff with sense 2.5 and htc messaging. can anyone point me in the right direction? Any apps that I want I can install myself.
at&t
I have read on the internet that AT&T is going to release a sense 2.5 update for Tilt 2 soon. I have a cooked rom installed right now that seems to work very well with only a few lock ups in about 5 months. It is a WCX rom you can find it easy in the first page of roms.

I have that new at&t one installed. it's evey nice but lags a lot and of course bloatware.
Energy series ROMs are by far the most popular and are constantly updated. I would recommend the Energy Reference ROM, it is the most like stock.

I tried one or two of his. I'm not sure if I tried that one but maybe I should give it a go.
I have released a new series of roms made exclusively for the tilt2...

There is no best ROM it's all personal preference, as every other user does flash ROMs till you find the one you wish to stick with, then flash some more to better it..
As with all best ROM thread thread closed.
There was such a good selection on the desire.there appears to be such a limited selection on the galaxy s...none seem that good.
Can people recommend which is best and why? Looking for a fast and stable rom.
My rom is xxjm1 by the way.
Not yet, stock is still the most trouble free for now. Won't last long though.
Its my understand (and hopefullness) that most devs FroYo. Most (if not all) are just themed and optimized roms at the moment.
We want froyo !
Yes, most devs are waiting for froyo, just because everyone will want to upgrade, and there is just no justification to make a custom rom with 2.1 just for a few weeks.
Have you not tried SamSet? Dude there are about 4 different Custom ROMs on XDA :| how can you say there are no good ones as you haven't even tried any?
Devs are waiting for FroYo and Cyanogen Mod, that'll increase the ROM majority. The Desire has FroYo (Official) AND Cyanogen Mod, so there are tons of ROMs. Stock isn't the best atm, SamSets is the best for now.

first off, 4 roms is nothing.
Secondly, setzuna or whatever he is called produced a bog standard rom for the desire.
I want quality original roms. Hopefully asop pure roms like cyanogen.
The galaxy s roms are poop at the moment.
Really...
Desire has 6month head start, also helps when the desire is clone of nexus one which is reference dev gadget so what do you expect. Have look at other latest devices that came out in last 2 months and tell me if they even have roms yet, you have been spoilt.

Agreed, ROM selection for the Hero (my last phone) were much better. I've tried HackEclair, Doc's StockRomMod and SamSet (currently the one I'm using).
From reading the forums, it really does look like all the devs are just waiting on the official Froyo release. I also read somewhere that the ROMs must be based off of official firmwares or else they won't work, which would make sense why it's difficult to get Sense-like interfaces on the phone.
Either way, it's only a few weeks - if that - until the official Froyo!

Seriously? did you not even read my post at all?
you CAN'T produce a 'bog' standard ROM for the SGS yet, It's been done for the other Galaxy S version(s) (ASOP ROM) but that's in BETA stage and some features don't even work. We have to wait for Cyanogen.
If you really want 'quality' original ROMs make them yourself. The devs here do it in their free time and aren't doing this to tailor your every suit and need, and you don't pay them for it and they do it out of sole interest. SetENZA makes ROMs because he obviously enjoys it and the challenge, and shares it with the community, and you can't compare the SGS and Desire development, they're both entirely different and the SGS is newer, meaning the Desire has more backing.
How are they 'poop' if you haven't even tested a single custom ROM?
I agree that we need more development but seriously, if you are implying that no dev is making a good custom ROM at the moment then you are VERY wrong. SamSet is the most stable one for now, DocRambone is stripped entirely so check his ROMs out. You need to read up a bit more, we all know that there is slow ROM development and for a REASON.
Hurry up Sammy.

hi,
Please don't make these assumptions. I have tried a couple of the roms and am back to my original stock rom now because none of them seem better than it.
I also wasn't suggesting that people weren't making roms or that things won't get better. I am just disappointed its taking a long time. I had good 2.1 roms within a month of me having a desire, asop 2.2 within 2 months.
Anyhow, the roms have a long way to go it seems... They aren't the best at the moment but I'm sure they will be great soon enough.

Okay, fair enough
Yeah but with patience we will see a fair share of ROMs in the next month, i guess these things take time, the Desire did get pretty popular though as it is HTC and Samsung is known for being crap with updates, but now the SGS is getting better and slowly it will overtake the Desire, i assure you.
Once Froyo is released, i think we can expect more than 4 ROMs

Impt point to note is when Froyo is released by Samsung, because Samsung is known for its delays and lack of enthusiasm, that we all take for granted from HTC =( I miss my HD2 and Desire

Disagreed.
Yes, Samsung has been crap in the past but with this phone they're pushing a lot out. We are yet to see how they respond to the Froyo update and how they maintain it, so you may be right, but i think that in this case Samsung will release it and *hopefully* maintain it, if not then XDA is here to maintain all phones, of course
HD2 has potential for Android as it's been ported, but WinMo is horrible and the Sense interface just makes it that little bit better, so glad i ditched WinMo for Android. Desire is awesome but the inferior screen and sensitivity made me get the SGS because the hardware is just that little bit better
Just got a couple of heroes. I came looking for a froyo rom, but I see there's not a lot of choices there.
Hoping for some recommendations on a rom to speed things up. Maybe it's just because my other android phone is a Droid, but these seem SLOW. Still, stable is a priority, so I don't want to trade reliability for speed.
I rather like the sense UI, so if it has that, great. If not, that's ok too.
My wife is a big nascar fan. I need that nascar app on her phone. Not sure if that's downloadable from the market on any rom, or if it's only available built in. One way or the other, she will not be happy without it.
Any suggestions?
probably the best sense rom your going to find. Has an A2sd issue that some are having. read the post since the update and if you have an a2sd issue you will find your solution.

This one is pretty good, too. It's my Sense ROM of choice.
I'm looking for functionality, little or no bugs, I am looking to stick as close to stock as possible with the option to customize if I wanted to. I know there are a ton of ROMs and I could spend ages scouring them for the one that might be right for me.

Did you install twrp also? You will need that to flash anything... might want to back up what you currently have before flashing also. If you like the stock feel, you can always wait until xposed comes out of alpha and start your customizing with it too.... lots of good info here if your not familiar with it. As far as UI is concerned you don't necessarily have to flash a custom rom, you always try a few different launchers on for size first.... Nova is pretty popular apex is another.... I am using action 3 right now which I like...
I would suggest clean ROM for a very stock like experience and then install MCR mod pack. This is my setup and I love it.
Cleanrom and sinless. Both stockish and super stable.
Stock. If you're not going to try for yourself, then you shouldn't go sheep.
OP you should really look around the development forums, you can't expect what works for other people to work for you as well. Usually down the line, you'll have a question and you'll want to be searching for the answers, not to ask others for the answer when the answer to your question has already been answered.
Everything in life, you can't just ask for it. Similarly to your decision to purchase what car, what college you want to apply to, etc... all of that you can't just ask someone. That's something for you to determine for yourself. Except the difference here is that all ROMs and kernels are free, be adventurous and try them all out (or at least the ones you found interest into).
My recommendation to this is to look at ROMs based on the following criterias,
- Popularity... how popular is the thread? Why is it popular?
- How frequently does it get updated? Do I like to flash ROM updates daily/weekly?
- Read the last couple of pages (or skim) and see what other users have been saying about the ROM

Hi,
I want to freshen up my nokia 8 a bit and I'm thinking about flashing some custom rom. Do you have any recommendations which one i should pick?
I don't really need any special fireworks, just want to try out newer version of android BUT I do not want a ROM which will have a full page of "things that don't work" so looking for something fairly reliable (if such thing even exists lol).

From what I see here in this forum it seems that anyone is doing well. I personally have used the AncientOS 5.7 Society, 6.2 Society and now I use the Pixel Experience. There are some more that I have not tried but I can tell you that any of these 3 ROMs is perfectly suitable for daily use. Before deciding on one or the other, read the user comments carefully in the threads of each one to see the pros and cons and to know what to expect.
