Got a New Diamond. Where to start ?

So I just got my new Diamond (Hong Kong traditional chinese version), version below:
ROM: 1.37.832.4 CHT
Date: 06/23/08
Radio: 1.00.25.03
Protocol: 52.26a.25.09H
I wanted to get the most out of the little phone. What tweaks and fixes I need to do to get to everyone elses "standard" ? Such as updating, changing the language to english, some kind of ways to backup my old ROM, speed fix on the menus and navigation, tweaks on longer battery life Also tell me if there is more needed.
Can anyone tell me where to get those stuff (Or if those things exists) ? I would greatly appreciate it.

update to WWE rom and flash the radio, use the roll up stickies as tutorials at the top of the pages, read, search and you will find.

Hey, I am new to this and I don't have the slight understanding of how these things work. That is why I'm asking for help. I wouldn't want to install the wrong things and kill my diamond (It happened before with my PSP =/).
But thank you for answering. Is updating the rom and radio all I need ?

Ouch, harssshhh.
To the original postah... Search for "Diamond Tweaks", should be a sticky in this forum. Those should help a lot for the performance of your Diamond. You CAN flash a new ROM and radio (make sure to Hard SPL first, search on how to do that!) but it's not necessary and taking a risk... Not a very big one, but devices have been turned to paperweights from flashing messups many times. To keep it basic use those Diamond Tweaks, start your device off right with Schaps Advanced Configuration tool (www.touchxperience.com) and TF3D Config, maybe Diamond Tweak (a program called that, searchsearchsearch) as well. To get a registry editor you can also go to touchxperience.com, you'll need that for most of the tweaks. Now go, go, go!

I have decided to flash the Rom cause I wanted to get the best out of the phone.

The problem I have now is that I don't know which Rom is the best to flash into. And whats the difference between Offical and Cooker rom (Which is better)?

each person have different prefrenses and use their pda's for different things
which is why there are more then one rom called superrom which everybody use
so it is kinda hard to answer the question which one is best for you

But can you tell me if the cooker ones are better than the offical ones ?
And is this the official English Rom: RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2 ?

...better? They are newer; look: Just like in Windows XP Microsoft also generates new builds of windows mobile. Also HTC does this with his own applications. The cookers always takes the newest builtds and gave us the great roms!

Just look at it like this, cooked roms are customized by people on here that want better performance, the official roms are what HTC puts out to try and make it work for everyone. If you find a cooked rom that works for your needs, it's likely to be better because it doesn't include all of the stuff that doesn't interest you. Better yet, you could cook your own rom if you really want to, look for a tutorial on it. Not incredibly difficult, just takes some time to learn. (This is my perception of it, I've never cooked a rom myself but it doesn't seem so impossible)

Thank you guys, I chose the SwiftBL for the Rom since it have just what I need and much more.
But I have another question about the Radio Rom. I have the Radio version 1.00.25.03 and I wanted to ask do I need to update/change it ? If it's not necessary, can I skip this step and just update my Rom and not the Radio ?

read!?! nobody told me i was suppose to read before trying to flash my phone for the first time?!! jk
yeah, just look around at the different tutorial on here, and it should help you to better understand it. I just got my diamond last week, and i can't believe how much i can change on this phone compared to my old S60 v3 phone...

I wouldn't change the radio unless you have issues with reception... But that's me, I'm very conservative compared to most on here when it comes to flashing/changing major aspects of the phone.

I have completed the flashing the Rom and Radio on my Diamond and thank god it didn't brick.
Everything is done now so thank you guys very much for everything.

quick help with rom flashing

I just got a used kasier and has a flashed rom Windows 6.1 and has SPL 1.0 OliPof. I want to flash a new one that will work, because this one is really bad, with everything to many bugs and very very slow, touch screen, keyboard reaction etc etc. Can anyone show a thread that will help me for a safe flash. Thanks in advance

I'm new to HTC Touch HD and using original HTC Firmware... I'm new and can someone help me recommended firmware the ROM and I would like latest Windows Mobile 6.5 possible?

not want to Offend you,please Develop a good habit,before post thread,search the forum for impossbile answers with keyword,read the Tutorial in the forum
First :go toTri-color screen to Ensure your touch hd is unlocked,if not you must unlock first
Second:if you want to use wm6.5,you must make your spl update to 1.56
Third:download the rom ,then use tools to flash the phone

Asking people to give you an opinion on the best ROMs is against forum rules. Not to be a stickler, but as it is peoples opinions, there are likely to be many different views as to which ROM is best. The best thing is to read this thread to be sure you have set up your phone correctly. You have 2 choices, either going the USPL or the HSPL route. You will see the pros and cons of each route in the thread.
I would also suggest reading the ROM threads in this forum where you will get a sense of how well the ROM is working ie any major bugs (or not) and then try a few of them yourself and see which one suits your needs best.

i still do not understand why opinionated posts are forbidden but anyway. until this thread gets closed, here is my opinion:
check out miri's rom because it has been very stable for a long time and a day after a new build is available you will get an updated rom.
just make sure that you also flash the latest radio rom.
prior to flashing make sure that you install hspl on your device.
for everything you need (hspl, radio, wm6.5 rom) there is a link in my signature.

Upgrade to 6.5 but cant dial?

OK I followed the upgrade to 6.5 on my HTC touch.
All looks ok and generally most of its working BUT
I cant seem to dial any more than 5 digits and it locks up and I cant enter any more? Obviously this isnt good cos I cant call anyone. Selecting a contact and dialing does work (so my work around is to create contacts for everything).
the other side effect seems to be selecting programs from the quick list ; sometimes it works, sometimes the touch part locks in same way as dialing and nothing works except hitting the home page button to return to home page.
Anyone else had the same issue? Re flashing cant be the answer?

It would help if you state ROM which you are using, or better put that question in according ROM's thread...

Agree with above post, you need to provide us with more information. Also, check your SPL to ensure flashing procedure was done correctly. Did you hard reset after flashing? Is there any colour issues?

im going to start from scratch .... although one source for the wm6.5 would be good , threads in here seem to list multiple versions on differetn sites; im never too sure which to use.

No worries mate. Generally if you download a rom and have problems with that rom, you post your issues/queries in that rom thread instead of starting a new thread. As your rom is Miri 6.5 38, you'd be best to post your query here

[Q] Uprgrading to 6.5 Step-By-Step Instructions - HTC Touch Pro2 please?

As you are aware I'm new to the forum.
To keep it simple this is what I'd like.
I'm not very technically knowledgeable and I do usually search things for myself but in the risk of stuffing up my new Smartphone completely I thought I'd better ask some experts.
My TP2 is currently running Windows Mobile 6.1 happily, I'd like to upgrade it to 6.5 as I've heard it's better. (Also is & possible on a TP2? ) I'd like step by step instructions because I just learnt what a .cab file is and i successfully installed my first to stop the bloody phone unlocking when I receive a text. Just want to know also, how do I back up my phone in the emergency case and will i lose all my contacts and files if i upgrade?
Anyway thanks in advance, I'd be happy for someone to refer me to another site or thread and sorry to waste your time if this has already been asked.

both are extremely great, I tried them my self, may be you find more better than those, or more suitable
