From console:
mke2fs -j /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
...or another alternative if you want the functionality built into the recovery partition, is to flash Amon_RA's recovery v1.2.2. It's GOLD.

Won't this reformat your whole SD card? Just looking at that code and thinking it's wrong. It's actually the one from above. If you reformat your whole SD you'll lose your partitions won't you,or will it keep your partitions and just reformat the FAT32 partition? IDK.I'm overthinking it now.

rm = Deletes a file without confirmation (by default).
-r = Recursively remove directories and subdirectories in the argument list. The directory will be emptied of files and removed. The user is normally prompted for removal of any write-protected files which the directory contains. The write-protected files are removed without prompting, however, if the -f option is used, or if the standard input is not a terminal and the -i option is not used. Symbolic links that are encountered with this option will not be traversed. If the removal of a non-empty, write-protected directory is attempted, the utility will always fail (even if the -f option is used), resulting in an error message.
-f = Remove all files (whether write-protected or not) in a directory without prompting the user. In a write-protected directory, however, files are never removed (whatever their permissions are), but no messages are displayed. If the removal of a write-protected directory is attempted, this option will not suppress an error message.

I get a bootloop on the seconds splash screen with the little green android popping out.
I've tried wiping and reflashing multiple times, as well as repairing the file system extensions. Sometimes, however, it gets to the third "HTC" screen, but then goes back to the green android popping out.
No luck. I'm coming from Cyanogen Mod 4.0.1
If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

did you wipe the ext partition?
you need too
Sorry for the noob question, but how do I do that?
Here be sure to follow this or this guide.
i wuld recommend u do the manual partition and only delete the ext2 partition and remake it for a lot more simpler process i.e only rm 2 n rm 3 after print so that your sd card files are not deleted

yup thats how i did it, but if you dont want to go through all that, you can follow these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535797
1.) Turn on the phone holding the home key and power to boot. Attach the phone to your computer via usb.
2.) Wipe your phone from the menu in cyanogen
3.) Open console ALT + X and enter the following commands. Press "Enter" after each line. This wipes the ext partition.
mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/sd
rm -r /system/sd/*
or this in adb
adb remount
adb shell
rm -r /system/sd/*
Click to collapse
Note: this will delete your apps on your sd as well as userinit files or w/e was there
Code:
to backup your ext partition to your current directory: adb pull /system/sd/ %CD%\sdbackup
to restore back to sdcard: adb push %CD%\sdbackup /system/sd
the easiest way to wipe ext3 partition is in the recovery console with
Code:
mke2fs -j /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
that is all. one command. and all is gone.
Hi guys
I'm new to deodexing, following a guide for XUltimate.
I copied my system\app dir to a folder called origi_app, and my system\framework to a folder called origi_frame on my int SD card, then copied these two folders to my PC XUltimate dir.
Ran option 3, then 4, both finished with sucessful.
This gave me two new folders in the XUltimate dir...
done_app & done_frame
I copied these back to my int SD card, then following the guide, ran ADB from cmd prompt..
Typed: ADB Shell
Got a $
Typed: SU
This gave me a Permission Denied ??
So as per the guide, I tried Root Explorer...
Selected All the .apps in done_App, selected copy and then tried to paste into the system\app dir.... this then gave me a failed to copy due to lack of space error and the phone started to vibrate and com.android force closing repeatedly...
Were did I go wrong, why did I get permission denied trying to get the SU cmd?
The full adb guide was as follows:
adb shell
su
stop
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
rm /system/app/*.odex
rm /system/framework/*.odex
cp /sdcard/done_app/* /system/app/
cp /sdcard/done_frame/* /system/framework/
mount -o ro,remount /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot
As above, got as far as SU then got permission denied!
So thankfully I did a nandroid backup before and am currently restoring it...
EDIT: My Backup has just finished restoring from CWM... rebooted but it is now on original startup setup and getting force closes for lots of apps???
Had to re add my APN settings to re download MY Backup and am currently restoring apps and data from it now! Fingers crossed. I thought the whole point of a cwm back up was to create an exact image of the whole system, files, date and settings etc?
Well, restored via My Backup, but rom manager and Sky news kept force closing, so wiped the whole thing and flash a custom js8 from from Doc's kitchen... glad I did... just miss the cirlce battery mod I had before.
I installed Ginger Yoshi 1.5 on my Android Dev Phone 1 by following these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178665
I found that most things are working, but I cannot install CoPilot GPS (28MB)
Error 498 in Google Play seems to mean the /cache partition is too small. My cache partition is 27MB.
I tried redirecting /cache to larger place with Cache Fixer 1.1
The "Data" option doesn't succeed in expanding the cache.
The "Tmpfs" option successfully makes the cache bigger, but it makes Play force close when I try to install the app.
I Tried using CacheDownload2SD 1.7.1, but it doesn't do anything
I got a message saying my su binary should be updated. I don't know if that is related or not.
I tried updating the SuperUser su binary from 2.3.2-efgh to 3.1.1
su Binary Updater says "Make sure new su works... fail!"
When I try again, su Binary Updater says "Copying su to /system... fail!"
When I try yet again, su Binary Updater again says "Copying su to /system... fail!"
I used Root Checker to verify root access. The phone is properly rooted. I don't know if this issue is related
I've considered downloading an apk and manually installing it. That should work, but then Google Play wouldn't let me know when an update became available. Any ideas on how to solve the problem? Does anyone know why Cache Fixer and CacheDownload2SD dont' work? Can anyone see why the su binary won't update? I've spent all day clearing caches, rebooting, and attempting installs. Why does Google Play need to download to such a tiny partition?
@IMSargon if your /cache partition is too small then you need to use custom MTD.

Thanks for that. I certainly have some more reading before I fully understand the topic. When I upgraded to Ginger Yoshi 1.5, I changed from DangerSPL to hboot-1.33.0013d which gives practically the same partition sizes, except /cache is 27MB instead of 30MB, which is why I didn't have this problem before.
So you're saying I can flash to this custom bootloader to increase my cache size (decreasing /system and/or /data accordingly), install the GPS app, then flash back for normal operation? It sounds like a risky proposition. Is there no way to permanently or temporarily redirect the location to which Play downloads APKs? Such solutions appear to exist (Cache Fixer, etc), but they don't seem to work for me (why?).
No, if you change partition sizes you will be wiping those partitions. Maybe a better option is to do it just once but bind mount to sdcard, see the link htcdreamon gave for more info on this

This is a relief to hear. It sounded like they would just redefine the partition boundaries with the data in place and hope for the best. I was wondering how that worked. After re-reading, the instruction do call for wiping the partitions and re-flashing the ROM.

That would work, and it's something I'll seriously consider once I have a chance to read all the documentation. It seems to me, though, that I should be able to unmount and remount elsewhere the /cache partition on a live system from the command line. Any reason I should not attempt that?
If you want to resolve your problem then follow these steps
- Clean your Device Cache
- Erase Market Data
- Scan your Device for Viruses
- Restore Smartphone to Factory Settings
I also have tutorial like article where you will find all the solution steps to fix the error here is the link:
optimum-systems.com/2013/04/error-498-in-android.html
I hope you will resolve your problem
I tried making a folder under /sdcard, removing /cache, and replacing it with a symlink to the folder in /sdcard. That didn't work for a number of reasons. Firstly, mkdir was missing, which was a pain. I just made the directories with File Manager on the phone - I'll fix that later. Then it wouldn't let me change the ownership of the target directory on the sdcard, even though I was root. When I tried downloading my app, Play force closed.
My next idea was to put the folder in /sd-ext, which is my next largest partition. This is an ext4 partition on the sdcard. I created a folder there. Then I deleted /cache/download and created a symlink to my folder in /sd-ext. I didn't have any problems changing permissions this time. For whatever reason, Play did not force close, and successfully installed the app.
I'll write what I did here, but I'll pretend mkdir worked.
Code:
rm /cache/download
mkdir /sd-ext/download
chown system:cache download
ln -s /sd-ext/download /cache/download
chown -h system:cache /cache/download
I'd expect this setup to survive a reboot, so maybe you want to delete the symlink and remake the original folder to set things back to normal. If not, only apps that use /cache/download are effected, so you might as well leave it. Just clean that folder out every so often.
Alright.. I wanted the Note 8 version of gallery and i went into system/app folder and deleted the SecGallery2_Galaxy.apk but before deleting i saw that its size was 0.00 kb lol ..
But when i tried tried to copy and pasted in the extsd it pasted and showed 13mb..
Now i deleted the file and copied the Note 8 Galley and pasted in the system/app folder only to get an error " Operation failed " and i realized only 7 mb free space is there in the partition by going into the android emulator!
Now i also found out that, full size SecGallery2_Galaxy.apk was in the preload partition and i instead of replacing that i deleted the file in system/app..
Now how do i get back that file in system/app?.. is that what they call deodexed file?.. Please help..
Thanks a lot in advance
Just copy it from other rom, that You can explore with winrar.
Sent from galaxy n7105
The actual apk was in preload and was symlinked to system partition. Thats why it showed 0 KB in system.
You can get it back by typing in shell
Code:
$ su
# ln -s "Path of apk in preload" /system/app/
And this is not called deodexing.

use adb shell
then mount the preload partition as rw
# mount -o remount rw /preload

Although i dont know why when i open a photo in gallery i experience FC!
Hi everyone, I modified the stock uRamDisk for CM11 by decompressing it, editing the fstab.encore.rc file, and switching up the part with sdcard0 and sdcard1.
P.S. I removed the zram (compressed RAM) option in the fstab because the Nook Color has a crappy enough CPU as is, so it wont help with zram. Use a swap partition on SDcard if needed.
P.S.2. This ramdisk is from the most recent nightly build (Jan 11, 2015). It may or may not work with older CM11 builds.
It's attached here. It wont let me upload the file as is, so I renamed it to uRamDisk.7z; rename it back to uRamDisk. After that, follow these steps:
0. MAKE A BACKUP OF THE /boot PARTITION IN YOUR RECOVERY JUST IN CASE. If anything happens, restore the /boot partition's backup.
1. Mount /boot partition at /root (it's an unused mountpoint in Android)
adb root && adb shell
# mount -t vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /root
2. Change directory to /root, rename the original ramdisk
# cd /root && mv uRamDisk uRamdisk.orig
3. Copy over the new ramdisk
adb push uRamDisk /root/
4. Reboot and profit
The internal sdcard will now be seen as external. You no longer need to have an SD card inside to have many apps like Kodi (XBMC), Firefox, etc, asking for external SD.
If it doesn't work for you for some reason, remount the /boot partition again, and copy over the original uRamDisk ( # cp -f uRamDisk.orig uRamDisk ).
I used parts of this script to figure out how to mod the ramdisk: https://gist.github.com/aperezdc/6533546

1. Do you have adb installed for Windows? If not, do that first.
2. I don't know how to make a flashable zip. Someone else might. Anyone wanna do that? I don't have time atm since college started. Sorry for the late reply.
3. The instructions are about as simple as they get. You should study the "mount," "cp," and "mv" commands. They are, respectively, for mounting partitions, copying files/folders, and moving/renaming files/folders.
4. You can't rename the file because by default, Windows doesn't show file types' endings (like .exe, .zip, .rar, etc). You need to enable that. Google it.
hello, maybe you still have this nigtly cm11 system of 11Jan, 2015? thank's
