Ok, I want to get root access on my g1. I can simply follow this guide to get it, correct? http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-root-a-t-mobile-g1-and-mytouch-3g-android-phone/
Once that is done I'll have to re-register my gmail account info stuff. I do not have the data plan so I will have to follow JF's guide correct?
Also, say I ever wanted to "Unroot" my phone, is this possible? And if something is wrong with my phone, and it is still under warrenty, I can reset it so they will never know it's been rooted correct? (It DOES void the warranty???)
Thanks for your time!
yes that guide will work. if you still have 1.5 i recommend doing the one-click method since if you install cyanogen's rom, then you can skip signing into google. if you want to unroot, then flash rc29 through bootloader and you will have stock.
Darn... I just updated to 1.6 a few days ago.. what do you suggest I do? 1 click won't work with donut?

then downgrade to rc29, then use JF's guide to register, then root via telnet commands, and the one click root was patched with the 1.6 update.

I have android 1.6 and have been trying to root my device with no success
-I downloaded the rc29, unzipped and placed dreaimg.nbh to the root of sd

any help will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advanced and sorry for being such a neewb
you gotta hold camera and power but pretty sure you are doing that and hmmm try several different links for the rc29 nbh file or you can try downgrading to cupcake the downgrading to rc29.
you might have to wipe too not so sure though

If you're gonna flash a 1.5 cupcake update, than you shouldn't need to downgrade to RC29 w/ DREAIMG.nbh, you should be able to use flashrec to flash cyanogen's recovery image from CRB43 or CRC1

well i guess you should try to downgrade to 1.5 then do 1 click root if you want but i would suggest the long way
I'm using a HardSPL and I just loaded put DREAIMG.nbh on a sdcard and booted up using camera+power and it seemed to load my file fine Pasing....[DREAIMG.nbh] etc, etc, etc, the you can press action to start the update, did you format your sdcard to fat32, unzip file and place DREAIMG.nbh on the root of the card spelled that way???
If that still isn't working you may be able to use a cupcake update.zip file and boot into recovery with home+power to apply the update zip and try using FlashRec from their, any of the 1 click method guides in this forum could explain that in a little more detail
ok guys i finally got it to work, thank for you help!!

Hi, I recently tried rooting my g1. I got back to cupcake. When I used the 1 click Amon Ra method and it finished, when I got to recovery it was the g1's stock recovery. Now I'm stuck with cupcake. How can I fix this? All help is appreciated!
Also, I used this video: (both parts)
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOkLYbnt5p0
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks57t-d3M5s
Just to clarify, at the end of part 2 after I had flashed the recovery, I followed the instructions and wiped the card, then when I went in to recovery mode it was the stock recovery. I went back and did the 2 part tutorial again, but when I get to the recovery flasher and I type in the code, there's no option to flash it. again, any help at all is greatly appreciated!

If there is there a guide to root JP3, can you point it to me???

Now, this is weird, I'm quoting myself:
Darkstriker said:
1.What is root/rooting?
root is the user account in Linux with all privileges. The root user can edit anything on the system. For safety reasons, users do not have all those privileges. When you root your phone, you will gain write access to areas of the phone you couldn't previously access and are allowed to run more commands in the terminal. There is a tutorial for rooting in the Post #2 and a link to a OneClick Utility in Post #5.
If all of this means nothing to you then you are probably wise to NOT root your phone. Mistakes using root can break your phone very easily. (Usually, but not always, these can be solved with a reflash)
Note: At the time of writing, the Froyo firmware XXJP3 firmware has only been rooted with a complete firmware flash by MoDaCo.

I can't confirm that. It might be true but I guess the solution from MoDaCo is just so much simpler.
Search the forum. Theres a root for JP3. I think you need to flash with odin then apply update.zip and flash back.
Or you can try this rom, jp3 pre-rooted http://android.modaco.com/content/s...insecure-boot-clockworkmod-recovery-for-odin/
Here's the specific guide with downloads for JP3.
