Black/red theme help! - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone! So I have a rooted G1 that I bought off Craigslist a couple months ago and through the help this website found out how to update my phone to the new 1.6 firmware. But I won't lie...I have NO IDEA what any of this information about my phone means.
Firmware version
1.6
Baseband version
62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version
[email protected]#2
Build number
DRC83
So then after I updated the phone to the 1.6 firmware, I wanted to download a theme to the phone. I downloaded TheOfficialHERO Theme (v2) and I really like the theme a lot but I don't like the black/green color combo. So I wanted to know if there were any themes out there in black/red that would work with my phone? ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

firmware is obvious, baseband is radio version, kernel/build is what rom/mod.
try whichever roms you like, but cyanogen's version has the most themes available.
my personal favorite theme atm is minus by david1171. he did a great job making it all black and white but very clean, so you could add a red background if you wanted and it would look pretty sweet. also, check out community hero mix or dark dream. both should be pretty easily customized.
or you could do it the hard way and edit TheOfficial yourself by extracting files from the zip.

upgrade yourself to cyanogen 4.1.999 (i recommend using the single flash one), and then check out sir mez's 5 themes + 1 animation- it's a red and black theme.

Okay cool. Thank you for responding! How do I upgrade my phone to Cyanogen 4.1.999? Is there a link on here? Would I still have the new 1.6 firmware?

search for appropiate firmware.
put update.zip image in SD Card. then apply s card image from recovery menu.

So it's the same way I installed the other firmware I have now. Does Cyanogen 4.1.999 have a lot of issues? I've read mixed reviews about using it.

Cyanogen in my opinion has the best rom out. If there's an issue, then he will fix it. Plus he adds more and more features. Yes my M_Blend theme is black and red. Take a look at my signature and click on the link to see a preview. I also have prodigal_sun red and black but that's for cyanogens stable build.

Which version of Cyanogen do I have to run in order to have the M_Blend theme? Which by the way is AMAZING! I love it!
This is all new to me...sorry for all the questions.

If you want a red/black theme, check out Armyrangers theme. All red/black and a ton of really nice artwork included. I havent ran it myself, but I am pretty sure I read it has been ported for the official 1.6 build.

I can't seem to figure out how to download Cyanogen 4.1.999 (to even get all the good red/black themes you guys are telling me about)
I tried to install the Cyanogen recovery image, flash android 1.6 and then the actual ROM 4.1.999 and when I hold the camera/power button the rainbow looking screen comes up saying:
Drea110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Nothing loads or anything like that. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have a 2GB SanDisk SD card. Is there a certain way I have to install everything since I currently have the HTC ADP 1.6 DR83 on my phone?
Thanks again for all the help!

You have to flash in reocvery with home and power

Before you do all the steps, download these three files and place them on your sd card. Make sure you remove any other files with similar names so you do not get confused (i.e.- remove the previous cyanogen and recovery image that you downloaded)
You need:
1) amon_ra's 1.2.3 recovery image -this one has many features and you do not need to rename anything to "update.zip"- it reads any .zip file
2) [ROM] Cyanogen's 4.1.999 - Update 10-12 (Full Update REV.2 - Single Flash)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569825
3) Sir Mez's 5 themes, 1 animation M_Blend theme
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569160
Steps to Install:
1) get amon_ra's recovery image and follow directions that say via console
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
2) after you have the recovery image installed. press GREEN (TALK) BUTTON + MENU BUTTON + RED (END) BUTTON together to reboot your phone and then quickly let go once it reboots and hold the HOME button until you get to the recovery screen.
3) From here you just scroll and select your options using your trackball and push down to select. First select NANDROID BACKUP- you need this in case anything goes wrong so later you can just NANDROID RESTORE. Now "go to console" and press "enter" and then type "utility"- this will give you options. If you have apps already installed that you do no want to lose, choose COPY APPS to FAT32 (this copies the apps from your ext to your sdcard). Then after that is done, go back to recovery typing whatever options allows you to do so- i believe it is "r" and then enter.
4) Select wipe data
5) Select wipe ext
6) There are two update.zip options, you need to choose the second one which allows you to install any .zip file.
7) Find the cyanogen 4.1.999 file you placed on your sd card and select it to install it
8) You will return to the recovery screen, do not reboot. Now again select the update any .zip file and select Sir Mez's M_Blend theme. Install that.
9) Now reboot
MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS WORD FOR WORD! if you need help further, just PM me.

This is what I was following, but none of this works when I try it.
Cyanogen Recovery Image
1. Download this file: http://cyanogenmod.com/download/recovery/cm-recovery-1.4.img
2. Move that file to your SD card (you may need to unplug your phone now so the computer unmounts the SD card, or unmount manually).
3. Back in your Telnet Client, type "flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img" and press Enter
File Download
1. Go to http://developer.htc.com/adp.html#s3 and download Android 1.6 Recovery Image.
2. Download CyanogenMod 4.1.999 at http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/experimental/update-cm-4.1.999-signed.zip
3. For Magic32A users only: Download the 32A kernel at http://fdsfiles.com/temp/rad-4.1.99-32a-bfs303.zip
4. Now put all of those files on your SD card.
5. Turn your phone off.
Flash Android 1.6 & CyanogenMod 4.1.999
1. Turn your phone off.
2. Hold the Home and Power buttons to get to Recovery mode.
3. Press Alt-W on the G1 Keyboard or select the wipe option and confirm.
4. Press Alt-A on the G1 Keyboard or select the 3rd option.
5. Select "signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip", and then press the Home button to confirm.
Do not reboot your phone yet!
6. Once installation is complete, Press Alt-A on the G1 Keyboard or select the 3rd option again.
7. This time, select "update-cm-4.1.999-signed.zip", and then press the Home button to confirm.
8. For Magic32A users only: Again press Alt-A or choose the 3rd option.
9. For Magic32A users only: Select rad-4.xxxx.zip, then press the Home button to confirm.
10. When this is complete, reboot your phone by pressing Home & Back. This will take a couple of minutes.
If that's all you wanted to do, you're done!
But I will try what you said right now Opasha and see if that works!

If you still have a backup of enomther's 1.6, flash it, as it takes about 10 minutes to set up a red and black theme. Just flash the minus theme (looks great), then use Sir*mez's excellent red & black icons from prodigal sun red (or his new, extremely nice theme), and a red/black wallpaper, and you are set. I did it with my phone, and it looks great.

Thanks for all the responses! But BIG thanks to Opasha! He's knows his stuff, spent a good amount of time with me on gtalk yesterday fixing my phone! Now I have Cyanogen 4.1.999 (with not a single problem) and Sir*mez's amazing M_Blend theme! I LOVE IT!

Saved for future references.

[GUIDE] Install CM7 or CM10 + Recovery to EMMC - ALL NOOK COLORS! (Updated:11/19/12)

***Nook Colors manufactured after May 2011 shipped with a different partition scheme, see post 2 for information about it, or just go ahead with the guide since it doesn't affect much! You can identify these nooks as they have a blue dot sticker on the box***
A gentle reminder, this thread should only be for discussion related to the guide itself. Any CM7/10 related issues should be discussed in the appropriate threads either in General or the Development forum. Thanks!
On with the good stuff:
Prologue
This guide is intended to take you through the (mostly windows-based) steps needed to replace your internal nook color rom with CM7/CM9, gapps and clockworkmod or TWRP recovery all on EMMC. This will work coming from any previous rom, including the latest stock software (excluding dual boot set ups, not supporting that here), no previous rooting is needed for a new nook, however don't forget to boot stock and register the device before flashing to CM7/10.
At this point in CM7 development I am recommending installing a CM7.2 build by mrg666 from this thread or an official nightly/stable 7.2 directly from CyanogenMod: http://get.cm/?device=encore
CM10 is based on Android 4.1 (Jellybean) and builds can be found here: http://get.cm/?device=encore or mirrored here: http://techerrata.com/browse/cm/encore/nightly
If you want to run CM7/10 from the sdcard.. you're in the wrong place! Go check out verygreen's thread here for CM7 or here for CM10.
ALWAYS check the md5 hash for the files you are downloading to make sure you don't have corrupted files. This is a great windows utility to do that: http://code.kliu.org/hashcheck/
On with the guide:
Download 1gb TWRP image from here OR 1gb CWM 3.2.0.1 sdcard image from here. MD5 of .zip: 1319739d33642ed860e8044c3d55aa56. (I made this based on work in this thread. credit: to cmstlist and DizzyDen, and kevank for hosting). You really only need the 1gb image for this guide, no matter what the size of your card is. A smaller image will burn faster, and when you're done with the guide you can reformat the card anyway.
Extract the twrp or clockworkmod .img (if you can't open the file use 7zip)and burn to sdcard using win32diskimager (free). These apps will need to be "run as administrator." If you're not sure how to do this see step 3 here. ***Some internal laptop/desktop readers will not work to do this, you may need an external USB reader if you run into problems.***
While that's burning:
Download CM7 or CM10 from the links above.
Download either CWM 3.2.0.1 flashable .zip from here or TWRP 2.x flashable zip from here.
For CM7 -Download the latest gapps gingerbread needed for market/google services) from http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
For CM10 download gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip from here or here
Once your sdcard is done, copy all those files to the sdcard - DO NOT unzip them
Power off your nook. Put the sdcard in, and power on, the nook will boot from sdcard into TWRP or clockworkmod depeding on which you used. TWRP is touch based and easy to use. Navigate in CWM using the vol up/down keys, N button to accept, power button to go back.
Optional: At this point if you want to make a backup of your current EMMC rom (stock or whatever else you're running) you can. Just go to backup.
Go back and navigate to Install .zip from sdcard/Choose .zip
Flash the files in this order:
1. cm .zip
2. gapps
3. Clockworkmod or TWRP .zip
Once you've flashed the files; in the clockworkmod main menu select "wipe data/factory reset" or in TWRP choose factory reset from the wipe menu.
Go back to the main menu, remove the sdcard
Format the sdcard in your computer as fat32 (or use another sdcard) and put it back in the nook and then press reboot system. (CM7 requires the use of an sdcard for storage - thanks pmilford for the tip)
Once you boot into CM7/10, you'll be presented with a welcome screen and you can add your google acct. You need to have wifi access here (obviously..) so hit menu on the status bar and you can set up wifi.
DONE!
Epilogue:
Now you can format the sdcard to use as a storage card in your nook.
To boot into recovery in the future (in order to update to a newer cm7 build/new kernel or make backups) simply hold down power and then choose reboot - recovery from the menu.
If you want to *gasp* restore to stock 1.2.0 flash nemith's stock image (update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip) from here using a recovery sdcard.
In CM7: For those looking to get a honeycomb feel to their Nook, I'd recommend this theme. Download the .apk and install it with file manager (or another of your choice), then go to the Theme Chooser app and scroll all the way left and select the theme (name/picture is broken but theme works). Once you've applied it, reboot. (Credits mad-murdock, Bawb3, haxzamatic and joenathane)
In CM7: To set your CPU/Overclock options go to Menu-Settings-CyanogenMod Settings-Performance.
CM7 for the nook color includes mad-murdock's tablet tweaks, so be sure to set up your preferences in the tablet tweak settings also found in the CM settings menu. Some apps, or you, will hide the status bar (eg watching a full screen video) so I like to set "unhide key" to home so that the N button will show the status bar again.
If you're having market problems see this thread for fixes. (Thanks jalexishg)

For more information on CM10 and latest issues/fixes/workarounds please check out the Nightly user discussion thread here and the development thread here.
Updating to a newer nightly build
Download latest nightly from CM and put it on the sdcard that's in the nook. Easiest way is to either download it directly on the nook itself, or download on pc and use usb drive mode to copy it to the nook sdcard.
Reboot to recovery (from power menu)
Wipe cache
Install zip from sdcard, flash the new nightly .zip
Reboot
I will try to maintain this guide with new information when needed. If anyone has any comments/suggestions feel free to suggest them below or PM me.

Information for new nook partitions
B+N have made a change as to how they partition the internal storage space on the nook. New nooks are now shipping with new partitions and you can identify these as they have a blue sticker on the box.
Old partitions: 1GB for data (i.e. apps), 5GB for media (books/music/whatever else)
New partitions: 5GB for data, 1GB for media (if you need more media space you use your sdcard)
Clockworkmod 3.2.0.1 (released 6/5/11) is now able to flash roms on the new partition scheme, however you may prefer to restore the old partition method if you like more onboard space for your own files and don't need 5GB for data (apps)
Current options for installing CM7 on the newer partitioned nook are:
1) Just follow the guide above with cwm 3.2.0.1, keep 5GB /data and 1GB /media
2) Follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094371 to repartition your nook into the older 1GB data/5GB media, and then go back to the top and follow my guide. If you want to repartition using the .zips in DeanGibson's thread, you can flash them using the CWM SD you make in steps 1+2 of my guide above, then go on and flash CM7.
Awesome! I was *just* starting to look for a guide for getting up to 3.0 now that school is done You rock! Perfect timing.
This needs to get pinned if it isn't! Thank you so much!
Can you include instructions how to revert to stock for those "just in case" moments?
Also, maybe include a step if a person wants to install tweaks?

CM7 has always been 2.3, not sure where you read otherwise. There's some honeycomb ports available built from the sdk as source isn't out, feel free to try them, although IMO CM7 is the most stable rom for the nook.
I tried to install CM7 on my nook color and i didnt follow the proper method and instead saved the CM7 file to the root of my sd card and installed the zip through clockworkrecovery without wiping or cache and now im stuck at the android boot screen. It isnt the CM7 skateboard android boot but rather the plain android root boot screen. If anyone could help it would be helpful thank you! IM crying right now about it

I'm currently auto-nooted, which leaves the default Nook reader software intact. Will installing CM7 also leave the default Nook reader intact?

The Very Corrected CM7 & Stock 1.2 Dual Boot Guide

Hello Nookers,
I myself and pndo1 of XDA have posted guides for dual booting CM7 and Stock 1.2. My first one was crappy, my second one was a little less crappy, and pndo1's was pretty good, but had too many steps. So yeah, I decided to clear this up once and for all. Alright, enough of that garbage, let's get on with the guide!
0. Make a CWM sd card using these instructions.
1. Download CM7 to your sd card. I recommend the latest version from here. Also, if you would like to overclock download this. Lastly, if you would like to remap Volume + and - to Menu and Back, download this too. Also, your gonna want (duh) have a copy of Nook Color Stock 1.2. This one is the best in my opinion. Also, if you would like to root Stock 1.2, get this. Now get gapps from here. Almost! Download thishere. And now the multiuboot! Grr... this is tiring... but lasties! Get it here. Put ALL the files you downloaded on your SD Card.
1. Boot into CWM. Go into Backup+Restore and create a backup. Then go into Mounts+Storage and unmount the sd card. Put in an MicroSD reader in your computer. Navigate to /sdcard/clockworkmod/ and find the backup. Copy it to your computer. You can now delete it from the SD Card. Put the SD Card back in the nook. Go into Mounts+Storage and hit "Mount sd card" Now from the same place, wipe system, data, and cache. Now go to the root menu (hit the power button once). Hit "Install zip from sd card" then "Choose zip from sd card" Select prep.dualboot.zip. Then redo the choose zip Select your downloaded 1.2 Zip. It should be called "update_nc_stock_1.2_keepcwm.zip" Flash that. Now wait for it to install. Reboot your Nook. It will boot and will ask you to setup the Nook. Set it up but if you don't have wifi, follow these instructions. After setting up, boot back into CWM using your sd card.
2. Now Choose the zip from sd again, but select ManualNooter. That will take one minute to flash. Reboot again. Make sure your root is setup. To confirm, download an app from the market. Any app.
3. Once that is done, boot back into CWM. Flash the zip "eclair-to-dualboot-0.2.zip" It will duplicate Stock 1.2 to the Second partition. Now go into Mounts+Storage, and wipe system+data+cache. Now choose zip again, but this time pick CM7. Then Choose again, pick GAPPS. Then anything else, like that KeysMod or OC kernel. Now flash Multi-Uboot-0.3.zip. Now reboot without holding anything. It should boot CM7. Reboot, but this time hold the home button. BAM! Stock 1.2. Hope it worked for ya!
To those whom it doesn't work:

I had the same problems as everyone else is reporting on this thread. I did this on Tuesday without the benefit of this guide but with the help of other two mentioned in the OP.
So after talking to iKingBlack via PM, I tried it again yesterday. And here is the exact sequence of events in case it helps anyone.
Install removal script for dual boot found in these forums
Install stock 1.2 from the link mentioned in OP
Boot 1.2 and register the device
Sleep 7.5 hours and then chat with iKingBlack
Install manual nooter, then the apk enabler
Boot 1.2 to check root access
(no boot from now on)
Install prep dual boot
Install eclair to dual boot
Format system, data and cache
Install CM7 nightly
Install gapps
Install multi boot
Reboot holding N and check stock works as it used to
Reboot normally, check CM7 works and set it up
Since then I have used both partitions successfully.

@Anyone else who helped but escapes my mind at the moment

I've been wanting to dual boot my NC for a while now, but I've read several sets of instructions and kept getting twisted up in them. I was also concerned that having a dual boot would make it difficult to impossible to continue installing the CM7 nightlies and the latest Dal kernels.
These instructions look really clear and easy to follow and I thank you for that!
I just want to clarify my understanding: both CM7 and stock 1.2 are run from eMMC, correct? And, because stock 1.2 is on the second partition, it's just business as usual to install the nightlies and the latest kernel on the first partition, right?
Again, thanks for taking the time to rework your instructions again. Your contributions are much appreciated!
Why a special uboot? Stock cm7 uboot (based on bn 1.2) already does multiboot... (hold down n on boot for info) and dalingrin's nook tweaks lets you set up default options from prefs menu...
That said, I didn't read the instructions carefully so maybe there's a reason...
@GirLuvsDroid Your welcome, and yes both run from the emmc. Flash nightlies and kernel like anything. Just nothing to the dual boot partition.
@fattire For me the CM7 Alternate boot option hangs. But again, that's me.
I may have just missed it, but I didn't see where in the instructions to download the Multi-Boot-Uboot-0.3.zip file.
I found and downloaded v0.4 file from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947698
and it doesn't quite work right. It boots CM7 fine, but it hangs on the Nook 'N' screen when booting into stock 1.2. I'm not sure if that's because of the v0.4 multi-boot file, or because of something else I did wrong. (It did boot into stock 1.2 correctly at the point where you said it would in the instructions).
Any thoughts, or the link to the v0.3 multi-boot zip and I'll flash that to see if it corrects the problem.

MH, it's the link in the OP that says this: "Last one (yes, really!) here." It's not the Multi-Boot-Uboot-0.3.zip but the eclair-to-dualboot-0.2.zip.
Disgregard this post -- I'm an idiot and apparently blind, as well.
Thanks GLD.
I'll reflash that one (I flashed both, just like the directions said ) and see if that makes it behave better.

I must be blind -- I don't see where it says to flash both. I only see the eclair-to-dualboot in the instructions.
Nevermind -- I found it. It's the last step. I stand corrected and I'm glad I do because I'm planning to do this when I get home from work tonight. Thanks for setting me straight!
Reflashing the eclair to dualboot wasn't the answer, now is doesn't even TRY to boot the stock 1.2.
Now where did I leave that drawing board....
I found the download link for the Multi-Boot-Uboot-0.3.zip:
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...dified u-boot.bin based on B&N 1.2 source
GLD, if anyone tells you that you're not a goddess, you tell them that I said you are.
Of course, that didn't solve the problem. (sigh)
I ran the entire routine again, and this time used the v.03 multi-boot that you found, same problem. It will boot into CM7 just fine, but it hangs up when booting into stock.
ahhhhhh, that's just so sweet, MH!
I just went through the whole process myself and everything went perfectly right up until I tried to boot into stock 1.2. Exactly like you, it hangs on the N and won't boot up. CM7 boots just fine, though.
Well, at least I know it's not just me.
By any chance, have you run the app that changes your Nooks RAM from 'new way' to 'old way'? (1gb data, 5gb apps).
I have, I wondering if that has something to do with it (just fishing of course, it's not like I actually KNOW anything).
Yes, I had a blue dot NC that I repartioned, but I did it using the custom partition (around 2GB data).
Well, multi-boot link added.
Oh, to those whom it doesn't work (stuck on N), try flashing 1.2 zip and manual nooter without rebooting and then eclair2dualboot then wipe system, data, and cache. Then flash cm7 and goodies. Not one reboot. Try it and only then say if it works or doesn't.
I'll try this no-boot method when I get a chance tomorrow. One question for you -- assuming I get this to work, is there any reason I can't restore /data from the CWM backup of my original setup that I made before I started the dual boot process?
I get the same result with the no boot method. CM7 boots fine, Nook stock hangs on the 'N' screen.
I had the same problems as everyone else is reporting on this thread. I did this on Tuesday without the benefit of this guide but with the help of other two mentioned in the OP.
So after talking to iKingBlack via PM, I tried it again yesterday. And here is the exact sequence of events in case it helps anyone.
Install removal script for dual boot found in these forums
Install stock 1.2 from the link mentioned in OP
Boot 1.2 and register the device
Sleep 7.5 hours and then chat with iKingBlack
Install manual nooter, then the apk enabler
Boot 1.2 to check root access
(no boot from now on)
Install prep dual boot
Install eclair to dual boot
Format system, data and cache
Install CM7 nightly
Install gapps
Install multi boot
Reboot holding N and check stock works as it used to
Reboot normally, check CM7 works and set it up
Since then I have used both partitions successfully.
@GLD Yes, I think you can restore safely.
@yellowguy You don't need prep dual boot because eclair2dualboot already takes care of that. And if my instructions didn't work, try yellowguys, a slightly refined method.

ICS Q&A

Sorry if I do not mention every problem in this thread, for there is a lot that can go wrong! If there are any further questions, please feel free to ask. Also, I am not responsible if anything goes wrong, obviously you have a choice to install this ROM. Finally, I am not a dev, I wish I was though. If I have crossed some boundaries, please let me know, I'm sorry this is my first major post. So help me, to help you!
Here is how to install and also get 3G working, don't complain, I tried.
If there are any questions, again, ask.
First, get this ODIN one click, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 , thank you DG, you are a stud. Download the latest Nightly ,http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=captivatemtd , (I used 181). Grab the attached update.zip as well, this will be your CWM, to access it, use the 3 button method to get to recovery (press volume up and down, plus the power. release the power button when you see the ATT logo). Lastly, download Alpha 6, along with the Enable 3g zip and the superuser zip. Put nightly 181, the Alpha 6.zip, superuser.zip, update.zip, and the Enable 3g. zip on your sdcard.
Basic Outline of what needs to be done for original Alpha 6:
Download all the .zip's and the odin. Install drivers, and open up the ODIN.
Put the 4 zip's (Nightly 181, Alpha 6, Enable 3g, and update) on the root of your SDcard.
Open ODIN, and enter download mode on your phone. Connect your phone to your computer.
Press start on ODIN, and let it work.
Once the phone reboots, enter recovery mode. Choose reintsall packages, or install update.zip, whichever is there.
The phone will come back to that same recovery, choose reinstall packages or install update.zip again.
Choose install zip from SDcard, then choose zip form SDcard, and pick the cm7 nightly 181. Let that install.
Once CM7 is intalled, go back to recovery. Choose install zip from SDcard, then choose zip from sdcard, and install Alpha 6. You may have to repeat this step.
Go back into recovery, select install zip from SDcard, choose zip form SDcard, install the superuser.zip. Reboot the phone.
Once booted, log into you Google account, and download Script Manager.
Press the Menu soft key, System Settings, More..., Mobile Networks, Access Point Names, Menu soft key, New APN, Select Name and enter ATT WAP, then select APN and enter wap.cingular, Menu soft key and select save.
Reboot into recovery, install zip from SDcard, choose zip from SDcard, select the Enable 3g.zip, install.
Reboot the phone, open Script Manager.
Select the folder ".." twice (it should be the top folder), your now at the root folder, select etc, then init.d, select 99enable3g. Make sure "Run as root", "Run at boot", and "Run on net.change" are selected. Press save.
Reboot and it should work! Questions? Concerns? Let me know!
Basic Outline of what needs to be done for the Alpha 6 with Hardware Acceleration:
This is optional, but I went back to stock. You need the JF6 like before as well as the update.zip and the Alpha 6HW2D.zip on the SDcard.
Flash back to stock.*
Once finished going back to stock, go into recovery and reinstall packages. Let it reboot and select reinstall packages again.
First, do delete all user data and cache. It works.
Select install zip from SDcard, then choose zip from SDcard.
Select Alpha 6HW2D.zip. Let it complete. Then go back into recovery and repeat. It must be flashed twice.
TADA! let it boot and you should be good to go!
I will be adding more to this, but it will take some time. Thank you.

Thank you for the links! I might need help with those instructions, Ill try to look them up. Ill add more to this later, Im gonna be busy for the next couple hours with some house work. Ill be adding the video and clean up the OP. with CM7, ill see how that goes, I just added that in there cause thats how i did it. Ill see if theres a better way. thank you very much for your help!
Just to ask the question - why is the JF6 with bootloaders necessary? Is the current state of the ICS port not compatible with GB bootloaders? Or is it just to have CWM available for flashing?
I'm just asking because if it's just a matter of being on a stock scenario, it would be safer to come from a non-bootloader stock package.
Combined patch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19596674&postcount=2081
I also did not go from CM7.
Went from KK2 rom --> recovery, clear data, flash ROM -> recovery, clear data, flash ROM --> flash ROM (just for good measure, since I was in endless boot animation) --> flash superuser zip and enable3gv2 zip --> scriptmanager, set script settings --> reboot
Good to go with 3g working. other fixes can be applied too. I think the above package contains all of them.

You can go with the GB bootloaders, I guess its personal preference. And I did it as a precaution. I like going back to COMPLETE stock to make sure I start from scratch.

I dont think it is, I like to make sure I have a known good baseline for testing, so I almost always go to JF6 and MC when I install ROM's like this
Here - I've whipped up a pack with all the fixes (and directions) except the A6 file (as that's pretty big). Enjoy.
SMS Issues
If you're having problems sending SMS:
Open Dialer *#*#4636#*#*
Click: phone info
Press refresh next to smsc and see if the number is 07913121139418f0
If it isn't, input that number and hit Update
Reboot
Thanks Twicebak3d!

Wow. Thats amazing. I might do that with all the files! Thanks
FYI, Running A6 with the Cappy kernel. I'm testing the battery now, and hit 100% last night before bed, unplugged, and overnight, dropped to 43%. Limited use since 9am PST, now down to 16%. Something interesting, Screen use is 45%, Phone Idle 20%, Android OS 9%

Sent from ICS captivate. Be jello.
Captivate install instruction for A6
So we start off, of course we need some files & requirements:
Make sure you have a WiFi connection available
The ROM itself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18877954&postcount=1
SuperUser fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=776518&d=1320787022
3G: fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=790072&d=1321869485
Voicesearch fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...0&d=1321887896
Calendar Fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=790037&d=1321868087
I put all of them in a folder called ICS, you name it whatever you want
First of all we need to make sure you do not have simlock enabled.
To disable:
1. Go to settings
2. Go to the security tab
3. Click on sim card lock, and disable it.
You do NOT have to be on any particular ROM to install ICS. I prefer to start from JF6 and Master Clear.
If you are on a custom ROM:
Make sure to disable any lagfix if you have one enabled
Copy folder with your downloads onto your devices SD
If you want to make a backup of your current ROM, now would be the time to do that
Once that is done, power off, and just for safety sake, I remove my Ext SD and SIM
Now we need to wipe the phone.
1. In the recovery menu select “wipe data/factory reset”
2. Go ahead and go to the “advanced” option
3. In there select “wipe Dalvik Cache”
4. Go back to the menu you were before.
5. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
6. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
7. Navigate to the ICS Folder
8. Select the ROM
9. Now navigate to the option “Yes – ROM NAME HERE”
It will now flash the rom.
Once this is done, go back and install the ROM one more time
Once we have done this, go ahead and hit the “reboot system now” option.
Wait for the phone to boot, if it does not go past the boot screen after a few min, pop out the battery, re-install the battery, re-boot into recovery and start at step #1 again
Reboot in recovery.
1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. In there select “Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip”
Once it’s done, “reboot system now”
Once you’ve restarted. You’ll need to install script manager. For this you must have a WiFi connection, the device will not have a data connection yet. Open up the market and search in for “script manager”, and download & install Script Manager FREE.
When it’s done installing, we are going to add YOUR APN.
1. Open the settings app
2. Click on “more…”
3. Now press “Mobile networks”
4. Then click “Access Point Names”
5. And hit the menu button, then press “new APN”
For AT&T, I have been successful with:
Name: ATT
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: Not Set
MMS Proxy: Not Set
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: Not Set
APN Type: Not Set
When you have put these in, hit menu and save
Reboot into Recovery:
1. Navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. Select “enable3gv2.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install enable3gv2.zip”
When it’s done flashing hit the “reboot system now” option.
Thank you to WarDrake in the i9000 threads who simplified this fix. I’m using his instructions and all credits go to him
1. Open script manager and go navigate to : /etc/init.d
2. In here select the script named 99enable3g and open it as a script
3. Now select run as root, run at boot, run on network change (DO NOT RUN IT)
4. Hit the “save” button.
5. Exit script manager
Reboot into Recovery:
1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. Select “ICS_VoiceSearchFix.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install ICS_VoiceSearchFix.zip”
1. Select “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. Select “CalendarFix.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install CalendarFix.zip”
Reboot, and you should be running ICS.
If you cannot send SMS(Thanks to Thanks Twicebak3d)
Open Dialer *#*#4636#*#*
Click: phone info
Press refresh next to smsc and see if the number is 07913121139418f0

ROM: Galaxy Exhibit 4G Peach Sunrise 3.01

Peach Sunrise is the first custom ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit. Based on stock UVLG3, it's deodexed, zipaligned, rooted, very lightly themed and uses a custom kernel. A CWM-based Recovery is required for installation. The industry spyware program Carrier IQ has been removed. This ROM is based on Samsung stock UVLG3 and is NOT vulnerable to USSD Dialer Attacks!
Everything that works with stock works with Peach Sunrise.
You can swap your internal and external sd storage using the included SwapSD app.
ADW Launcher is default. This launcher is highly themable, with many hundreds of themes (including ICS) downloadable from the Market.
EStrongs FM, Voltage Control, DSPManager and CIFSManager are included in the ROM.
V6 SuperCharger is included.
The stock WallpaperChooser has been modified exposing 30 new Wallpapers from Samsung, previously hidden in the source code!
Extra features include busybox, bash shell, terminal, init.d support, rc.local support, remount script. Additionally, adb now supports root access, allowing you to do things from your command line that were not previously possible.

Installation
CWM Keys:
Home key = enter
Back key = back
VolUp/Dwn = highlight choice
1. Back up your data. The installation will format your data partition. I suggest Titanium Backup, available in the Market.
2. Download the peach.sunrise zip file & copy to either your internal or external sd card.
3. Install Galaxy Exhibit 4G Custom Recovery (cwm) . If you're already rooted, you may install from the command line, otherwise you may install from Samsung's Recovery. Samsung's recovery only sees the internal SD, so copy the cwm zip there. Stock recovery sometimes takes more than one try to start.
Easy way to start recovery
* Make sure the cwm zip is on your internal (non-removable) sd.
* Pull the battery from your phone.
* Connect phone to your pc via usb.
* Press & hold Volume-up
* Insert battery
Your phone will boot into recovery. Press the capacitive menu button (left bottom button) when you see the open white box and droid. Choose 'apply update from sdcard' and select the cwm zip file.
4. Start Custom Recovery (cwm): Press & hold Vol-Up, then press & hold Power. Shortly after the plain white Samsung logo appears, release both buttons. Recovery should start after the color Samsung/T-Mobile Exhibit logo.
5. Select ROMwipe. This step is required! You will have problems if you do not install Peach to a clean system.
6. Highlight install zip from sdcard, then press Home.
7. Highlight 'choose zip from sdcard/external sdcard, depending where you placed the download in step 2.
8. Highlight the peach.sunrise zip file, then press Home.
After you confirm your choice, installation should take less than three minutes.
Big Thanks to Camcory for his assistance with the extended menu for this release!
Remember to do a Nandroid Backup when you're happy with your setup!
Bloat
Peach Sunrise has been de-bloated, meaning that most of the junk that
T-Mobile/Samsung includes to eat up your phone's storage has been removed.
If you need some of that stuff back, download the bloat file below, it's all in there.
bloat.peach.3.zip

Sure, I'll add something to the OP.
Since the the only difference b/w the Exhibit and Exhibit II is the camera processor, would flashing this rom works on my Exhibit?
Thanks.

So this is just the Exhibit II's stock ROM debloated? If I already debloated all the stuff I don't need, does this ROM do anything?

What are you interested in having a ROM do? I've had the phone less than a week, so I'm pleased with this as a start
I like! . Haven't used it yet, but progress is good! Is there anyway you could make the kernel OCable?
THANKS! Great start. To answer your question, I would like to see overclock ability as one thing in a rom.
Thanks for this rom, happy people are working on this
About having custom kernels, will this take a while.....you did this rather quickly
The one thing I always wanted to use was voodoo sound and hope you can incorporate a kernel that supports it in the future
anyways keep up the good work and best of luck

Directions in the first post. It's Odin 4.43 all the way
jocala said:
Peach Sunrise is my first ROM for the Samsung Exhibit II. It's Touchwiz-based, rooted, very lightly themed (wallpaper only) and uses the stock kernel. It's been debloated, but not aggressively so. It also includes the bash shell for console junkies. This release uses Odin (included in the download). Future plans include deodexing and a custom kernel.
Download HERE
Consider this a beta, and use at your own risk. However, everything I've tested works. Calling, texting, camera, wifi, etc. If something is broken, it's probably something that I debloated that needs putting back.
Installation
Use Odin 4.43 or greater. 4.43 included in archive. Have Samsung USB drivers 1.4.8 or greater.
1. Put your Exhibit II into download mode. With power off, press and hold the download volume
button, then the power button. A warning screen about the evils of custom software will display.
Press volume-up and you should be in download mode. The screen has the Android robot in the center of the screen and "Downloading" underneath it.
2. Connect your Exhibit II via usb cable.
3. Click the OPS button, then select Ancora.ops
4. Click the "One Package" checkbox, then press the "One Package" button at the bottom of the Odin screen. Select the file peach.sunrise.tar. No other checkboxes need clicking, no other fields need filling. Press the start button.
The process takes 4-5 minutes to complete using Windows 7 in a virtual machine. Once your phone reboots, you should be done. YYMV.

So I should only have the one package box checked. I should uncheck the ones already checked?

I've posted a screenshot above of what your Odin screen should look like prior to pressing start.
The COM port mapping field should be yellow, with a port number filled in.
All checkboxes are checked.
The Reset Time field is pre-filled in with the value 300.
The OPS field is filled in.
The One Package field is filled in.
HTH.
Did I do it right?
I think I did it wrong because once it finished rebooting everything seemed the same. How do I know I have the ROM installed?

Things like this are why we have public betas
You are probably fine. I need to brand the ROM, so it identifies via your settings. Since the Odin process does not format your /data partition when you reboot your home setup WILL look just like like it did, since your /data partition overrides the new default home screen.
If you're rooted at boot the new rom is in place. I'll work out branding in beta 2.
So then do I still have all my data from my I had installed b4 flash
sent from my exhibit 2 greatness
