How to bulit in GPS.

hello.
I have TyTN II which is not built in GPS.
I want to set up GPS into TyTN II
here is Australia. how do I set up? and is it possible??

The tytn ii has a built-in gps... it's on com4. you just need to find software that supports gps. do a google search... or search this board.

I'm willing to bet you have GPS, but the "3" Stock ROM blocks access to it.
Have you flashed a custom cooked ROM from here onto your Device?

Either that or they meant that no GPS software was supplied with the device. It doesn't make sense for them to deliberately block this native functionality in the device hardware. Tomtom Navigator 6.032 that comes with UK bought TyTN IIs has a downloadable map of Australia for sale although it costs more than a map of the whole of Western Europe bought here in the UK
The OP should talk with the Tomtom agent there. It's in their interests to make this product work with any device and they may have experience with "3" TyTN IIs.

Do NOT try to flash a custom made ROM before you read and understand the WIKI. read all about SPL, CID unlocking, radio rom's etc...before you try flashing or you'll probably end up bricking your new phone...
Regarding your GPS, try this freeware called "GPS Test" ( file attached ). It basically gives you an idea of the GPS signal strength, GPS fix etc...
I think if your ROM blocks access to the GPS, then you will not get a fix, if you get a 3D fix (like in the pic) your in built GPS is fine and you just need a navigation software like TOMTOM
Also, make sure your are out in the open with a clear view of the sky when you try the GPS test...

Glad you've confirmed your GPS hardware is working fine and you are able to use Google Maps. My Tomtom Navigator version 6.032 was included on a CDROM in the box with my TyTN II. Have a careful check of the CDROM contents that came in the box with your 3 packaged phone. Once you have the program then it's only a case of installing Tomtom Home on your desktop PC and buying/downloading/installing a map to suit your needs. As Tomtom Navigator 7 is already being released on some HTC devices, it would be worth shopping around to get version 6.032 cheap if you don't already have it and 3 cant provide it.

Depends what features you want/need and which versions you're comparing. I know Tomtom Navigator 6.x maps of oz are avail but don't know about co-pilot. There are other GPS packages available as well but whether they are well supported in your country is another (important) question. Be aware that as you don't have an original HTC branded phone but a 3 customised one, Tomtom may say your phone is unsupported, that doesn't mean it wont work though (although search and read up in these forums on the GPS problems you may get if you update to Windows Mobile 6.1, assuming it's not already using that OS).

However TomTom 7, will do a search on this site for it.
You will have to buy maps but that is explained when you find TT7 on this site.

TomTom 6 works fine with the internal GPS on my stock ROM AT&T Tilt.

Version 6.032 will it's the version Tomtom specifically customised for HTC devices such as the TyTN II. Personally I'm waiting on Tomtom to offer a reasonable upgrade offer for Navigator 7 with its standardised maps. At the moment Navigator 7 isn't supported 'down under' though.

Tom Tom 6 is working fine on Kaiser

I just got my TytnII from 3 in Australia. They also told me that it does not have GPS. It does, it just does not come with any software for it. I grabbed the latest version of Google Maps and it works fine. From your phone go to http://m.google.com/maps/ you can download google maps there.
EDIT: I should pay more attention, didn't notice that this was aready done

Hmm, I have a stock "3" TyTn II in Australia too, it comes bundled with the CoPilot satnav software, as well as TomTom working fine. The in built GPS is flawless, and even works well using aGPS and google maps. I reckon you should pull out the phone manual and have a read.

i tried this rom on my s730, very good, but i cannot use/add any t9 dictonaries, and cannot remap the qwerty keyboard (fn and caps didn't works)

the rom is partially in english, some included apps are in chinese but it is not a problem

first boot is in chinese and you need to change lenguage by settings
i cannot use my qwerty keyboard specials keys like FN, CAPS and there are no t9 (et9, xt9) availible...
but it has a good amount f free ram.
some feratured apps are in chinese only like autokeylock and resco explorer

I needed to upgrade to a newer version of marketplace and it's up and running for me. However the standard dutch translation is really crappy (I can't even figure out if I'm really on a dutch translation) and there's arent that many apps ready yet. Only: De Telegraaf, MS Tag, MS My Phone, and facebook for WM. So I hope that tommorrow when al should be up and running there's more to choose from!

How do you upgrade? I have Energy ROM and not working for me...get error.

I also get an error when trying to connect to the server. I'm using the 09/20 Energy Rom. The error was after it connected and updated.

If you have a WM 6.5 ROM, the program should be in your windows directory.
\Windows\WMMarketplace.exe

I use Chrome rom and marketplace is cooked in. I just tried it and everything works. when you first run it it will update. i am able to install apps just fine. every once in awhile you get an error saying cant connect but if you hit retry it works fine. MyPhone does not work yet however. i dont think its live yet.

From what I read at Cnet the apps should be attached to your account so if you switch phones you will have to redownload but not re purchase.
I'll see if I can find you a link.

I'm using NATF 5.6 on Fuze and also keep getting the 'serious error' I tried the resitry mod but that didn't work. I expect we will have to wait for NATF to fix it.

same here, getting an error
on touch-it 14 rom

Works perfectly on my X1 (An old Touch-It, 10 I think, with SPB MS 3.5).
Still browsing, haven't been able to count the apps but way more than 37.
One problem for us flashaholics, it installs the apps onto phone memory. So one we hard reset or reflash, bye bye app!

People from different countries report varying number of apps. It appears to be country specific, anywhere from 5 to 200 apps.
I have 12mb free. I cannot afford to install anything .

WM Marketplace gives me an error... Says " Error - We encountered a serious error which requires that you exit Windows Marketplace. If you can't log in after a few hours, please contact Microsoft for help."
This only happens in my Asus P535 with WM6.5 23053 build, on the Diamond with 23017 everything works fine... Exactly the same Cab/Update from MS...

same on mine x1, but i'm shure it's because of new framework 3.7

Since our machine has super limited ram, its kind of PITA to have modern apps running in our device like EzInput, TaskManager, etc which require to running in background as service which consume RAM. Just keep in mind, this machine is still not power enough for us to have full windows mobile experience (Kaiser use same processor but it runs better with more ROM & RAM). Thats why HTC only limit it to run SnapVue because they limit the RAM & functionality on WM side.
We need to close other running apps to run another apps to free up ram.

i think win mobile 6.0 is the best os for the shift. with age of reason rom i got around 40 mb of storage and 25 mb of ram. whar about yours?

Very good ROM, almost perfect, much faster than wm6.1 and wm6.5, very stable, no problems at all yet. Well, one problem I have, where do I find Internet Sharing? I have installed XP in vista side so I cannot use HTC Control Center and can't get 3G internet connection without Internet Sharing in wm-side. With USB Tool I have connection to wm but no Internet connection? Is there only shortcut missing to Internet Sharing and if so, which file in windows directory is internet sharing?

What's the reason why we shouldn't use this rom? Is there some bug that can damage our systems or do you just think it's not good enough yet? I'd like to keep using this rom, works best for me.
