help with 1.6 - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

when i try to force install the android 1.6 update i get this error message
installing from sdcard...
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:no signature (302 files)
E: verification failed
installation aborted.
i renamed the file update but it just wont update please help
i live in the US if that matters. and i have tired the update under settings>about phone>system updates. but when i download it and then it verifies it just says download again not install. so i restarted my phone to see if it would work but it still says im running 1.5

Need a lil more background info. Is your phone rooted? What 1.6 firmware are you trying to load (a custom or official)?

What was the source of the update you downloaded? Have you tried a different copy of the update?

Yea what file were you trying to flash?

Updated: So confused by everything

UPDATE: I've finally found the correct guide located here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Rooting_HTC_Branded_EBI1_Dreams
But now I've run into another problem..
I get all the way up to Step D, flashing the zip file '1_33_2005_spl.zip' from the SDcard then it gives me the error;
'Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (26 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted'
Could it be because I'm not rooted or something?
I also tried following this guide
http://droidxhacks.com/droid-x-hacks/how-to-root-droid-x/
But I get stuck at Step 11.
It tells me 'cp: not found'
Any help would be appreciated.
UPDATE 2: So the reason it wasn't working was because Safari on this Mac was downloading the files and automatically unzipping them, so I'd re-zip them. And it didn't work when I would try to flash them. I downloaded the files using Opera instead and that kept them as a zip file. It ended up working.
I'm loving 2.2 right now, so much faster and a lot better than running 1.5.

[Q] Rooting a GT-I9000b with Froyo

I've tried a lot of different methods and update zips, but it's always the same error:
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Help?
which update.zip are you using?
This is the last one I tried.
Help? Anybody?
Nevermind.
z4root is the answer

[Q] OTA Update fails

Hi everyone,
I received HTCs latest update via OTA yesterday. However, I can't install it.
I am on the rooted stock firmware with CWM as Recovery.
Once the Phone reboots, to install the update it simply goes to CWM and states that it can't find the file.
When I select it manually the following happens:
Code:
-- Installing: /sdcard/Download/OTA_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.12-1.28.401.7_release_315849_signedp7v18dqsvls0ht0.zip

(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I deleted and downloaded (again via OTA) the zip to no avail.
Does anyone know what goes wrong here?
I believe you need stock recovery in order to flash OTA updates from HTC.
Do I have any chance to install the update without having to wipe my phone then aka. is there a zip anywhere that can be flashed with a custom recovery ?

Issue Updating to KitKat

I had run through the 4.3 conversion process on my AT&T HTC ONE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781) and am now trying to update the phone to 4.4. I have downloaded the update from google and am trying to load it through the recovery. Sorry I can't screen shot the recovery but here is the output I'm seeing
Code:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing Update...
Verifying current system...
"system/app/DeskClockGoogle.apk" has unexpected contents.
Installation aborted.
Any ideas?

Need help flashing Pie.

I'm currently on Oreo firmware OPSS27.104-92-4 and I'm trying to flash the Pie upgrade found here: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ali/official/RETUS/
I've tried to give Motorola Update Services storage permission and place the downloaded .zip file into the root directory of internal storage but it's not finding the update. I've also tried to ADB sideload but I get an error.
ADB error:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: footer is wrong
Update package verification took 0.0 s (result 1).
E: Signature verification failed
E: error 21
Installation aborted.
Do I need to downgrade to a previous version?

That's not an update zip. It's a full firmware package.
Fastboot.
Or use RSDlite
Or use "XML to batch" to create a batch script to flash it for you
