Why did the phone come from? Is it stock, unaltered from a phone company or retail store or what?
I have never heard of a stock phone without the market app. However, you should be able to flash an appropriate dev ROM for your phone (need to figure out if it is 32A or 32B), or flash a standard ROM.
You could just load the market apk but if that is missing I would really wonder what else is missing.
If your carrier does not have paid apps, then you can use Market Enabler to access them.

I have the same problem. Just received it as a gift that was purchased from www.blueflymobile.com and it seems that the Android Market is the only app that is missing. Why would they take it out???

Yeah my phone was the same, and the android market app is closed source and isn't readily available for download either. The dev guys may know how to inject one into your existing install, but it's probably easier to just flash your phone with one of the ROMs in development forum.

Had the same frustration about the missing market on my mobile. Seems like the missing market on the first non-google-branded HTC android mobiles is mainly caused by a missundestanding between google and HTC. Hopefully they set things straight and updates will be available soon which include the market. But then its good that we got some elite hackers/developers here on XDA

I had the same problem.
I flashed my phone last week to the newest rom update of cyanogen.
All works perfect now!!!!!

Sorry if i keep repeating the same problem as previous user. Im actually having the missing android market application aswell. I bought this from eBay UK from company called Elcell(www.elcell.co.uk). Turned out that it doesnt have any market, not even a single google application installed - just a plain htc phone with basic stuff. I'm just hoping someone would actually guide me a step by step on how to get Android Market manually because I've been looking for this for long time. I really really need help, please any expert people from this forum.

Airtel India Magics have no google apps either
I bought my Magic 32A from India Airtel. Guess what? No google apps there either and a perfected SPL which meant I had no way of flashing a replacement. I ordered a second HTC Magic 32A from the states and it had no google apps either.
Only way I have found to get the market on the phone is to reflash stuff. I don't believe the market can be packaged up like many of the other apps. There are alternatives like slideme.org which offers a "market-like" experience. They even have a agent you can install to quickly download and install apps.
But as nice as slideme could become; its nothing like the market. For the airtel India Magic phones, one is kinda stuck until getting the phone redone. There are some nice Hero ROMs out now.

For those who don't want to flash a cooked rom should get an official update from HTC soon if not already out. Seems like HTC and google cleared out the misunderstandings and future Android mobiles from HTC should ALL have the market installed. So the 32A models will be able to enjoy the google apps as well as exchange

Ahome Paid App Dissappearing.
*Solved*
The last day or two the ahome paid application has been going on and off the market for me. I was currently on the market planning to buy it and now it isn't shown again (it was there earlier today). Is anyone having this same problem or can any of you currently see it?
Thanks.
Once again the paid version, I can always see the free one.
I have adp1.1h
*Solution*: If you are having any problems buying or seeing paid apps I found that flashing with rc33 fixes this. Adp1.1h only works with some paid apps. (I love ahome)
I can still see the paid version, its $2.99
am running on Jf RC-33
I have yet to see the paid version =/
there is a paid version, i paid 2.99 and it works great, one of the best apps on the market
What are the extra features in the paid version
i couldnt tell you , i never seen the free version
could you download the free one and compare for us cheep people

As of now there are basically no differences, but I purchased it for two reasons.
1. It will increase in price in a week.
2. The free version stops getting any updates except bug fixes as of two days ago.
The subtle changes that have been made so far can be found in the description of the app in the market.

While in market home click on Applications->All Applications->Menu->Change View->Priced items only.
If that shows paid apps, thats good.
aHome no-launchy
So I've been using aHome for a few days and last night an update to the paid program came down the pipe. Installed it and now the program will not launch. If the DEV is listening, what up?
Edit: Problem solved... Damn default was set on original home program. All better now...
Sorry to hear of your troubles, but I dont know if its a problem with ahome. I have the most recent updates as well and mine runs perfectly.
aHome and Cupcake image issues?
I'm on the HtC build for cupcake at the moment and I just update aHome to the lastest version that has aHome cupcake. Everything is running find except the music widget has a graphical glitch. The image for the music widget is shown twice with the second one overlayed the first at center. When in landscape mode its fine except the end is shown overlayed by a second image of the music widget. I dunno if this is becase aHome cupcake is made for the G version instead of the H version? I emailed mappn makers of aHome but they never respond.
I was wondering if anybody is having this issue as well with H or G version of cupcake.
ahome now cupcake compatible!!
It allows you to install a different version and all the widgets work.
Awesome stuff
I noticed the same thing with open home.
sorry for being such a noob,
but does anyone wanna send me the .apk file?
Thanks.
its a paid app, and theres a demo one for free :]
i hate how it says.

Rooted Android phones missing some paid apps in market

I was researching a problem I have been having installing an app I paid for on Google Market after flashing my G1 to Eclair. At first I thought it had to do with comparability but after checking out the apps site I founf out it was compatible. Then I found this on Google's support forum.
Hi All,
As a follow-up to Rajesh's post, rooted devices are different from unlocked devices. Rooted devices should not expect to see forward locked applications. Unlocked devices (meaning not linked to a mobile service provider) should have access to these applications. We're very much aware of issues around the Motorola Milestone and I'll be certain to share updates once they are available.

Dontae

It seems that Forward locked apps will not be available to rooted phones. Anyone know a work around or even how to tell if an app you have is forward locked?
thanks,

You need the right stuff in the build.prop file so the phone identifies itself as one that has full paid app access.
You could probably do a google search for something like "adp1 protected apps" or "adp1 paid apps" and you'll find a lot of reference to the same phenomenon.

My market wont open. Boots back to homescreen

Basically the question is what the topic is...
I've tried clearing the market cache. Also the updater.... I'm running an android build on my HTC hd2
Sent from Nexus One(HD2)
Why are you posting in the NexusOne forum for an issue with an HD2?
I know a lot of people had issues with the new market crashing when they tried to set up their account (agree to terms and conditions and such). The solution was to flash a copy of the older market from a .zip, set up your account there, and then reinstall the new market.

Exactly what I was thinking. You don't own a Nexus One, you're posting in the wrong forum.
And you're wondering why the new market doesn't work on your hacked build on an unlicensed device.... hmmm... that's a real thinker there. Google probably nuked it.
The new market has been very tricky... it works perfectly on some devices while not on others.
so stick with the old market despite GUI the old one isn't worse than the latest one

UPDATED: Google Play (Market) App v3.5.15

Sup Nation,
I am assuming this has been posted in other forums, but I bet there are people like me that only look at the Vivid, Raider, Velocity section of XDA.
But I thought I would post up a link to get the new Google Play app.
Google have renamed the "Android Market" to "Google Play"
It has a slightly different UI on the phone, and the Google Play Website has been updated too.
Here is the UPDATED VERSION link
The main improvement to the app: under the My Apps menu, you can see Installed and All Apps in a separate tab. This allows you to re-download any app you've previously tried and deleted, or paid for and uninstalled, bringing the functionality more in line with the desktop portal.
Enjoy people!
I liked the sound of Android Market better, but they both serve the same purpose so w/e
Im guessing this is only on ICS?
no.. I ran into it today on my stock vivid.. scared the crap out of me.. thought I DL something that will cost me.. haha
Its cool though.. I'm new to all of it.. but on their site it will tell you what program will work for your phone and it will send it to your phone and install it.. without any connection to your PC or home network.
A rose by any other name is still a rose.

Nope, it's a market update. I'm running Gingerbread and just got it the other day. Anyone have any idea why they decided to do this? It seems a bit unnecessary, and personally, I liked the Android Market a lot better. This just makes it seem like a game store for kids or something. I don't like it.

[Q] Chinese HTC One - need help with getting access to US Apps

Hey there, my more experienced friends. I have been lurking for a while now, and am preeeeetty sure this question or some variation hasn't been asked yet. We'll see.
I am an American living in China and bought the Chinese unlocked dual SIM/SD card HTC One. Though I think it's a great phone, some aspects REALLY bother me.
#1 - It has this ****ty HTC Marketplace rather than the Google Play Store
#2 - I can't get the Blinkfeed to display anything but Chinese jibrish
After a few weeks of finding NO apps that I want, I took my phone to a large electronics market in Shanghai and had my phone rooted. Some things became better, some worse.
1) I asked the guy to get me the Play Store and he did...but not everything is available on it. I'm unsure why this is.
2) It's obvious that the Beats sound is no more.
3) I still can't get Blinkfeed to change whatsoever.
4) I can find more apps than before with both the Play Store and HTC Marketplace, but something is missing. I don't really know what it is.
5) The camera seems to be much less clear than it was before.
I guess my question is, since it's unlocked is there something I can do to wipe the Chinese stuff off of it and install all American software? Did the guy get me a less than optimal root? What am I doing wrong? What's the easiest solution?
All I want is for my phone to function like an unlocked US or International version. Thanks in advance for your help!
I suspect at least part of the problem is the government firewall blocking things.
You might start by installing Xposed framework and the Modaco toolkit module for it. Modaco has a setting that blocks the Play Store from checking your location.
But the best solution is probably flashing one of the custom roms with a non-carrier-specific setting. Not sure what that would do for you, but it should help.
I can confirm that the Government is blocking some of the apps. Both my phone have the play store but on is still on v3 and the other on v4. I couldn't find an airport security game and all the featured apps and top are also china-fied.

I suggest that you have a detailed read through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273570
It will tell you everything that is currently known about modifying these devices, including how to install patches for blinkfeed that will allow you to read foreign news, and facebook etc..if the firewall lets it in to china

VPN won't work.
You could have one of two issues.
If you just can't view certain apps, do a search in a browser and open the link to the play store. If certain apps can't be installed, then you need to fix it another way.
If you have a foreign SIM card, put it in the phone, empty the play store cache, restart phone. Once you restart, you will be able to view/install the apps available in the country that SIM is from.
Maybe there is a rooted method that works now, but last I checked there wasn't a reliable working alternative. I used this with my One X I bought/used in China.
