Was reading the Sholes dump thread and downloaded the Maps.apk (3.2) from there. When pushing the file, I got the error "No space left on device". I then deleted QuickOffice.apk and PDFViewer.apk, but still get the same error.
I no longer see Maps.apk listed under /system/app/ after the error, but my Google Maps application still works as normal. I can't figure why this is happening.
Something to do with dalvik-cache? I don't understand how dalvik-cache works.
Some more confusion as I'm trying this...
Pushed YouTube.apk, and same "No space left on device" error, but tried again and it went through.
Now, under /system/app, I still don't see Maps.apk, but now I have GoogleMaps.apk, as well as PDFViewer.apk which I deleted earlier.
uhhh....I'll be first to respond....IDK try googling it?????? probably has not been ported to work with g1 id assume?....assumptions are bad
this is why you dont mess with prerelease stuff lol...
are you pushing in recovery or while booted? try it in recovery
and jndd
asking someone to google something that isnt posted everywhere isnt very helpful.....

In the Market, when I look at Google Maps, it displays "Free" as an option instead of saying "Installed" like my other apps.
I try to install it by clicking on it and clicking Install, but after downloading I receive the error, "Package file was not signed correctly."
This is a very minor annoyance to me, not a problem. I looked at the version number of my installed Google Maps, and it's 3.1.2 (the same as the Market version).
Firmware information is in my signature if anyone is wondering.
I'm also a bit curious as to whether I'm the only one with this problem or not...?
Edit: added in additional info from below:
OH, I forgot to mention - if I try uninstalling Google Maps, it tells me that the uninstall was unsuccessful.
I got an error upon trying to mv /system/app/Maps.apk as well.
Thats an experimental build. Might be why. Never had that problem yet. Im going to install v4.1.11.1. I'll let you know if I run into the same problem.

Pardon my sig, it's been updated. I've been on 4.1.11.1 for a few days now. The problem was there before 4.1.11.1 as well.

idk. I updated to 4.1.11.1 and same problem. If I get around to it, I'll try to replace it from the recovery console. I wonder if this will work, or is there some type of dependancies needed during the official update .....
how the hell do i change the new market on my theme... it keeps refreshing the stupid new one OTA. I pulled all the system apps with adb to see if it over wrote anything, but to no avail... my original vending is still intact... where is this file so I can have the update automatically included in the build with MY files?????? Please help themers, im still new with this
update:
Ok, so most of you themers probably figured out how to overwrite the market file when its in the data/app/ but after troubleshooting, i could not get it to write to the system/app side... so for now, a temporary solve is to deleter picotts.apk and marketupdater.apk from the /system/app folder... market works still and installs still, just wont be 1.66, which for me doesnt really have any advantages other than the bill to account option... hope this helps some of you

it's not you. it has something to do with cyan's latest roms. vending icon goes to stock so i believe it's allowing the htc 1.6 to overwrite it. i believe the only way perhaps to change it is to take vending from the htc image 1.6 itself and theme that. not 100% sure, but that's your best bet . hope it works.
Check my theme thread for more details, but it has to do with a tmo update placing a package com.android.vending.apk in /data/app/ thermr it, sign it in a .zip with the test keys, and pull the .apk from the .zip and push it back to /data/app/

It's not Cy's ROM. It's like david said, the TMO update goes into /data/app instead of /system/app. Once everyone has the update, we can just start putting the themed vending in a data/app folder in our update.zips

yeah my bad for the incorrect info. i just noticed that issue when i was on cyan's latest roms 4.2.7+. dwang's did not have this issue (except for 1.15). thanks for the correct info though .
I don't have the update because I wiped after it rolled out, but my GF's phone has the option to uninstall the update when you click on the Market inside the settings. Has anyone tried this yet? Just curious

I have been using this as a solution since the first day the issue arrived. What this does is remove com.vending.apk from /data/app (the tmo update is installed in data instead of system) with a manual delete. I have also tried pushing it back to data/app and the update works after that.
Here is what I have figured out: Do you remember the days of android when when it was first figured out how to manually set up apps2sd? There were many market issues in those days which often resulted from people setting up apps2sd before opening the market and signing the TOS. This same thing is reappearing with metamorph applications, in that after metamorph plays with the framework, the android market (online check server) no longer sees you as having signed the TOS, which normally happens upon the markets first launch. The market app itself has info in the cache that you have signed the TOS, and thus it will launch, but will the online check that occurs will not allow the install. When you downgrade it forces a resign of the TOS, and thus unless metamorph is used again, an upgrade is fine at this point.

since its a tmo update, would it mess up anyones market that doesn't have tmo? or make separate version for people that have or don't have tmo?
yea, i found it last night after posting in the /data/app when i was extracting updated apks doing a backup (with backup for root)
wasnt the place i wouldve expected to find it. i tried renaming it to vending, themeing it, and then putting it back into system apps, but to no avail... so i added a /data/app and am going to have it auto install. hopefully the OTA wont still force it to overwrite my themed files... but thanks for the help guys, i hope this works
yeah im not on TMO im on rogers. i never even got a notice of any kind of update.

[Q] "Installation error - insufficient storage available" when installing skype
Hello Everybody,
this is my first post on this forum, i decided to start this thread cause i've been struggling with this problem for something like one month now, i really want to fix it, and this looks like the best place where to ask for help.
I'm having problems installing the Skype application on a Samsung Galaxy S, in Italy.
Initially i installed it from the market, the installation went fine, but i couldn't log in cause i was still running Android 2.1
After the upgrade to 2.2, Skype worked only the first time i tried to use it, then it started giving me a weird bug; basically each time i tried to make a call, it would say "already 2 ongoing calls".
I uninstalled it, and now each time i try to install it again i get the same error message "Installation error - insufficient storage available".
I have 5.22GB available on the internal SD card, and 573MB on the internal phone storage, and i have no external SD card.
I tried to contact the Skype support, sent them something like 10 different emails, but each time they came up with stupid answers and in the end they couldn't find a solution, so they said
"Please note that the message you are receiving is an operating system message and is not a Skype message.
We suggest that you contact Samsung to find out under which circumstances the operating system returns this message and what can be done to make an installation possible."
I tried to contact Samsung, but they didn't even reply.
I started a thread in the Android Market Help Forum and one guy suggested to use adb to delete the skype folder
So i rooted my device with z4root and also did the OneClickLagFix V2.2+
I managed to install the Android SDK and get the adb up and running, but when i try to delete the skype folder, this is what i get
# rm -R /data/com.skype.raider
rm -R /data/com.skype.raider
rm failed for /data/com.skype.raider, No such file or directory
#
basically there is no such folder..
at this point i really don't know what to do, and i hope that someone here is able and willing to help me.
I think i gave all the possibly needed information to help you fixing my problem, but if you need more please just ask.
Thanks a lot and by the way big up to this forum, so many useful informations in here!
Cheers
Pedro
update
i installed Titanium Backup
if i go to the Backup/Restore tab and scroll to the very botton, the last one is com.skype.raider, but it has a line on it and i'm not sure what that means (see attached image)
if i click it, all the options are grayed out, so i can't uninstall it..
if i click and hold, a different menu comes up, where most of the options are grayed out as well, i can only do Assign Labels, Explore and View in Market.
If i click Explore, it says:
com.skype.raider
files/
shared.lck 0B
defetto/
main.db-journal 8.0KB
any idea what's going on? thanks in advance
Never mind, i made it!
I bought an application from the market called Root Explorer, i couldnt find a free one doing the same, basically giving full access to my folder structure.
Anyway, i was able to find the com.skype.raider folder and delete it..
after that, next install went fine!
the correct path was /data/data/com.skype.raider
so if you have the same problem, you can use abd and delete the folder and you don't need to buy the above mentioned app..
p.s. how do i set this thread as answered?
Had a similar problem! I couldn't downlaod anything from the market. Unmounting the sdcard has fixed the issue. Thx http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thank you for sharing your solution. It helped me solve the "insufficient" problem
Trying to install Gingerbread I get a message saying Amazon MP3 is an incorrect file, because I removed it. Where can I get hold of this app to put back, tried downloading off the market but I get the same message...
Thanks.
Edit: Oops, sorry this is in the wrong forum, too many tabs open!
Just get it from the stock froyo ROM:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...01ae02c.signed-passion-ota-60505.766a101a.zip
com.amazon.mp3.apk is in there.
Or just use my attached file
You'll need to be root to push it back in to the /system/app/ dir
Thanks, that looks perfect.
I cant seem to put it into the right folder though, even though i have root.
File manager apps let me see root folders but not move files there?
Edit: It's now updating fine, must have been a file name conflict as it worked after getting rid of the market's Amazon app.
I did the same thing.. I rooted via superoneclick and pretty much left everything alone but i did remove Amazon mp3.
I have replaced the com.amazon.mp3.apk file back in the /system/app folder but I still get the Status 7 error when I try and flash the GB update. I have verified it is there and is in the app drawer and cannot be removed by the application manager.
Any suggestions?
ok, i have a problem with the g sensor on the samsung captive. now, i've thoroughly searched online and on these forums for a fix, and i've found a few fixes. unfortunately, none of them worked.
before i get into that, here's my phone info:
SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
firmware 2.2
kernal 2.6.32.9
build Cognition 4.3
comp os win7 64bit (if it matters)
now, here is the first fix ive found:
http://androidforums.com/captivate-support-troubleshooting/162768-lost-auto-rotation.html
response #12
ive tried that using terminal emulator, but i get an error saying ADB not found. i downloaded the Android SDK with ADB, navigated to it using the command prompt and typed adb shell as instructed only to get an error saying device not found.
now, i completely abandoned that fix (since i felt i was doing something wrong and going nowhere) and found this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712439&page=3
this one had better results, but up until sensorcalibutil_yamaha. like some users on that forum, my result was:
fgets: Unknown error: 0
msmachdep_SaveGsOffset failed
calibration utilities failed
so, after following that forum, i found the solution, which was to delete ms3c_yamaha.cfg from /data/system and rerun. i navigated to that folder on my computer, and nothing. there was no system folder in the data folder. i allowed hidden folders to be visible and still nothing. i downloaded a root explorer app, searched for ms3c_yamaha.cfg and nothing popped up. i couldnt even find the folder it was telling me to look in. and this is where i am stuck.
i cant find ms3c_yamaha.cfg, nor the folder to look into, and i dont know what else to do...
perhaps i'm using the wrong root explorer, or perhaps that folder isnt even on the ROM i used. completely flashing the ROM would be my last resort, since i'm not too savvy on stuff like that, and it took forever for me to figure out how to even put Cog4.3 on my phone, so hopefully someone out there has some info.
thanks for your time
edit:
problem solved!
when i woke up this morning, on my way to work i started thinking about my problem, basically, why couldnt i find the system folder. i searched again in the market for a root explorer and found one that specifically stated "even allows access to the elusive system data folders". i bought the app right away, and immediately i was given access and found ms3c_yamaha.cfg and proceeded with the second solution. after running the calibration, it gave me an odd result, which made my screen rotate when held vertically. i reran the test, and ran the system calibrate (the 3 circles with the blue ball) and all was set. phone works perfectly now.
thanks for anyone who read this, and who was taking the time to find a solution
Hello.
Can you tell me what application explorer you are using?
I got the same problem as yours.
Please reply to my email: [email protected].
Thanks a lot.
