Alright a few days I had the specs in my sig and then Hero kept looping in the beginning (when the little Android pops up). So I just reflashed into the same rom after wiping (I keep all my roms on SD just in case a rom messes up when I'm out) but the sd couldn't mount. I realized the SD was corrupt (using a separate card reader) Formated the card and put MLIGN's Hero rom but wouldn't work, so I reset everything and put the default bootloader and rom on the phone and it worked (although I lost root)
So later I rerooted my phone and used this recovery 11-Oct-2009
I flashed into the T-Mobile 1.6 USA Rom thats in the forums here, I cannot find it as of now but I saw it earlier.
Today I decided to flash into a new rom and everytime I flash into a new rom I get errors saying "E:Failure at line43: set_perm 0 0 04755 SYSTEM:xbin/sqlite3"
I tried using the recovery image to partition my SD card but it wouldn't work and told me to run a console command that didn't even work.
Any help
- I do not have any partitions on my SD card
- My sd card is Formated
- poop
any help will be appreciated thanks
1) Follow the steps to root AGAIN, update your Radio to 2.22.19.261, THEN upgrade to DRC83 (Donut).
2) Flash your recovery.
I just did a full format and it seems to let me install soul life roger v31
But if I cannot flash into micro hero then I'll do what you said.
Thank you for the reply!
Alright, it still doesn't install roms but I installed the official update 1.6 (with root) but I cannot access the camera. All it does when I press and hold the camera button (or go through the interface) is go blurry and wait about a minute then reboot the phone... I really cannot reflash into this rom again considering I don't have data and I'm not sure how much it would cost to log into GMail everytime I reflash (AT&T rates). I do not know how many kbs it uses to register with the google servers or how much ATT charges per kb.
Any help will be appreciated

Hi team,
Having some trouble rooting my g1 and upgrading to CM 4.2.4
I have been following a tutorial from here: http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-root-a-t-mobile-g1-and-mytouch-3g-android-phone/
... to achieve my goal. Followed all of the steps fine and to a tee. Installed all of the suggested files from the suggested places.
Succesfully upgraded the radio image, then moved onto upgrading the SPL. Ran through and rebooted phone, until the never ending "Formatting Cache" notice came up on the automatic boot into the Recovery Mode.
(FYI: radio and SPL images were from http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/)
Moved on to installing CM 4.2.4 after realising that the format was complete... Alt-W then Install from zip. Installed CM. Waited for prompt for completion... pressed reboot... then the boot hangs on the G1 startup screen.
Only way I could get out was to remove the battery. Went through the process again (Alt-W, SPL install, reboot, Alt-W, CM install, reboot, hang) numerous times, all with the same outcome.
Only thing that I can think of that I am doing wrong is pulled straight from CyanogenMod Wiki explanation: "I've noticed on some devices that when you fresh install the first time and you update with the rooted adp package from htc, reboot and then update to latest CM, some people get stuck at the tmobile logo. What I did was install the rooted adp package from htc, reboot and sign in all the way to home screen, then rebooted and installed the latest CM. That should get you past the first screen freeze if it happens to you."
As I am a noob, I have been unable to try this for the following reasons: 1. Where can I find the HTC rooted adp? and 2. How do I get this image onto the SD card when I can't boot in? I have tried without booting and my computer won't let me access via USB...
I was going through the process from factory settings. Is this my problem... Very confusing.
Realise that there are currently two active threads running in this section that are similar... but these guys seem to have done the wrong thing and are trying to right the ship... I can't seem to figure where I've gone wrong.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
As well: could booting with camera + power get me into the Dreaming.nbh OS to get HTC root OS onto the SD card?
http://developer.htc.com/adp.html
Download the 1.6 recovery image. It is actually the 1.6 Android Dev Phone ROM, flash that via recovery console... then flash the cm update. Make sure you wipe before you start flashing.
As well, do you have your SD card partitioned? It would be a good idea to do that as well. Two ways to do it, manually, or download and update to RA's recovery image 1.2.3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
I would update to that recovery first, use the option to part my SD card, upgrade to ext3, wipe, flash 1.6 recovery, flash cm update, good to go!
Thanks for the quick reply! Very handy info... How do I get the images onto my SD card without being able to boot though?
Do you have another device like a camera, or mp3 player that can take a microsd? If so just hook it up and transfer.. otherwise you may need some additional devices.. I bought an adapter so my sd can plug directly into a usb.. other than those couple options, I haven't any more suggestions to offer ya. If you cant get past the boot screen to mount, I don't see how you can do it through your G1.. there might be some terminal commands you can try to mount to a computer.. but that's beyond me.

You take it out of the phone, while the battery is pulled, put it in an micro SD card reader, plug that into your computer, tada! If you computer doesn't have a slot for the standard SD card adapter, you can get microSD to USB adaptors most everywhere that sells electronics.
Or if you have cyan's recovery installed... you can hold Home+power
go to console, press enter and type
ums_enable
Click to collapse
and it will mount the sd on your pc.....
put ums_disable to unmount
Sorry to be a noob, but what benefit does partitioning do?
If you have an EXT3 partition, you will have app2sd. If you also have a linux-swap partition, you will be able to have a swap file (in simple terms its like adding more ram)
The ext partition is for apps2sd, and the Linux-swap partition is to give a little extra memory for the ROM.
Thanks for all of your help lads! Up and running. Muchly appreciated!
I’m going to try to keep brief so I don’t lose you. In short, I seem to be locked out of my G1 after root attempt. It won’t read sd cards, and can’t communicate to it through USB. It will run, but normal start up goes directly into 3 pages of T-mobil google setup.
1) Ebay G1, 1.6= donut, worked great but not unlocked so no phone no net.
2) Installed dreaIMG.nbh for root root ala "unlockr’s" method. Followed to a t
3) Try to run update (to cupcake) rom, no go. Rebooted (update) every witch way, battery in and out, formatting & reformatting 4g sd on PC. Try other SD’s, purchase a new 4 gig sd, All I get is the following message:
First:
Android system recovery utility
E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/com
mand
Home+back – reboot system now
Alt+l etc,etc
Etc.
Etc.
After executing Alt+S:
Installing from sd card…
Finding update package…
Can’t mount /dev/block/mmblk0
P1 (or /dev/block/mmblk0)
E:Can’t mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.
USB hookup shows up on PC as “HTC Android mass storage”. HTC SYC., DroidExploer, ADB and whatever else I’ve played with on the P.C. won't connect.
Please help if you can. I’ve only had this a week, tried to root, and have spent the last 2 days googling around trying to figure it out how to fix it. If I could somehow just get past the T- mobile crap or through the USB I could probably straighten it out.
Regards, PK
What format is the SD Card??
Try reformatting to fat32 full format instead of quick and try again
Also you don't need to upgrade to cupcake to root your phone you can root it from RC29/RC7 which is the build your on after using DREAIMG.nbh
You can either use the flashrec program I believe they show you in the unlckr video
Or
You can follow the guide on Cyanogen's Wiki
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.p...eam_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod#Rooting_the_phone
Depending on which ROM you plan on using you can either follow the whole guide to use Cyanogen or you can just follow the steps through getting your own recovery image and then you can flash another ROM at that point if you're going with a diffrent ROM
Thanks much for the reply.
SD: All 3 of the SD cards I've been using are fat32. One is a brand new virgin. One, I reformatted fat32 many, many times. (The only question is, within "format fat32", there are many "allocation unit size", settings possible from 32 kb to 1024 bytes). Make a diff?
CUPCAKE not needed: Yes, I sort of reached that conclusion (after about 8 hours of study), and you confirmed, that I could flash things other than cupcake. Indeed tried many including Cyanogen Ithink.
The CRUX:It's just my G1 SD drive won't read anything. I would love to start over. Intuitively, compared to all the other rooting methods, this seemed to easy. If I could just get in past TMobile stuff, I'm sure there are switches to flick to solve prob.
Little more info: It was after "successfully" flashing dreaimg that I was locked out. In addition to the getting into (but not out of...can't finish cause I can't connect) of the Mobile setup screens, "menu" button puts me in to "change APNs (wonder if I should, to ATT). Also, replacing inactive T-mobile SIMM with ATT puts me in an ATT screen too enter code. Wonder if I should by one.
BTW: Any recomendations for reputable, fast &, resonable T-Mobil unlockers.. any one?
Thanks again,
PK
P.S. Format: Actually I was doing a full format about every other tim (I was trying lots of different stuff),
Hello out there!
I sure hope someone can help me with this! I have rendered my phone completely useless. I have been working on this thing for the past 7 straight hours.
I upgraded to the 5.08 radio and then the MIUI_Au_1.1.28_R4_N1_EN-signed.zip
Everything was working beautifully until I decided to do a Nandroid restore. I guess I did not truly understand the function of this. After a reboot, I was back at square one.
I rebooted again into the recovery mode and then wiped and reinstalled the new rom. Now the new rom is giving me an error. I cannot get any network connectivity from it. I wipe and reinstall several more times and get the same effect.
This is when I get the idea to format and partition the SDcard from within the recovery menu. This was clearly not the best choice.
I cannot get the phone to restore back to factory anymore. The SDcard is empty. I have even taken it out. When it boots up it still boots into some non-working version of the new MIUI rom. No network connectivity. Where is it storing this? I have wiped everything possible. Played with partitions. I have tried hard resetting in the limited interface and in the Recovery console.
At this point, I cannot work on this any longer. My next idea is to put the micro SD card in another device and put original stock image on it. Is it possible that the new rom installed a kernel and that is what I am seeing? I figure if I can install a different rom from the SD card I might just be ok.
Any input into this mess would be greatly appreciated. Because I still have access to the Recovery console I know this is not the end for my phone.
Someone please tell me they know what is going on!
I would be happy to elaborate any more points regarding this issue.
It seems to me that I am not able to delete something because the new rom keeps coming up. Where is it booting from if I wiped everything?
I am at my witts end!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful responses!

If you can enter the recovery mode, you just have to enable the SDCard to browse it from your computer. From there you can push in the sdcard whatever zip you wish. Remember to wipe cache and data.
If you can't enter the recovery mode, go in fastboot and flash it again.
And of course, the ROM is booting from /system partition on internal Flash memory in the device, which you can't wipe without knowing fastboot/adb commands - which obviously isn't the case. Wiping SD card won't do anything, and wiping user data isn't going to help you either.
As already mentioned above, since your recovery is working - get into it, mount the USB-MS, connect to PC, copy a ROM of your choice to the SD card, unmount, flash it, enjoy. I suggest RTFM before doing things.
Gratitude!
Thank you for your replies!
I have been putting off doing this upgrade for some time and have been living with limited functionality on the phone due to the amount of time and research I would have to put in to make sure I cross all my t's and dot all my i's.
I was never able to get the MS-USB toggle to work. Windows XP would not show I had put a new drive in when I used it.
I remedied the situation by getting a microSD to SD adapter so that I could put the new rom on the SD card. I used the original microSD card at first and installed the MIUI again. This caused me the same results of rebooting a few times before it went into the rom. When it got in I had no network connectivity.
I decided I would try this brand new microSD card and put the EvIL rom 1.26 on it instead.
I wiped and installed the Evil rom on the new card and Walla!
I have Evil rom now working with network functionality. There must have been some kind of hidden garbage on the old microSD that was keeping me down.
8 hours into the project, I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE MY PHONE UP AND RUNNING!!!!
I hope others may find this post useful!
Many Blessings & Thanks!

I’m hoping someone can help me out with my phone. I have been searching the forums but it’s all getting a little much and i just need some advice please.
The background
I flashed my UK sgs (i9000 i think) with a darky modded ROM which has worked fine for about 6 months my phone has become more and more unstable. Seeing as i can work Odin i thought i would flash it again and fix my issues. Then my phone crashed and wouldn’t boot up, it was stuck on the Samsung Galaxy screen, before the flashing S. I then downloaded the official 2.3.3 ROM’s from the link of official Samsung ROM’s from the thread in the General forum and flashed it. This all went fine until i rebooted my phone, it went into recovery mode fine, although i got some error messages about being unable to mount the SD cards (i can add the proper error message tomorrow for you) i cleared user data and cache, rebooted and my phone came up with a new Gingerbread ROM. This was fine until i realised it had not mounted either my Internal or External SD cards. The operating system worked fine but i could not format or mount my SD cards. I then decided to reimage the phone using the same image i had downloaded in case something had gone wrong but i got the same error messages and now i couldn’t boot into the OS. Since this has happened i have downloaded a 2.2.x ROM and flashed that but i still have the same problem. I have also downloaded and flashed the Darky Resurrection ROM but that doesn’t seem to have helped. I have asked Odin to repartition, i have used PIT 512 and a couple of others, 1 and 3 file ROM’s and if i am honest, i have got nowhere apart from a headache.
I think i have some how corrupted the internal SD card and need to reimage all the right folders and stuff but with the huge amount of official ROM’s, custom ROM’s, recovery tools and tips and tricks, my head is just swimming. Can someone please just point me in the right directions and hopefully i can have a working phone in the morning.
Many thanks in advance,
Simon
do you have any lagfix before you flash to the official 2.3.3 ROM’s ?
I'm having a similar issue w/ mine. The external sd wouldn't mount and i had kind of already started the process to update the rom. It was a dumb mistake. i knew the sd wasn't mounting so i used a different phone to mount put the updates on. Nevertheless i can't use my phone, other than to get on clockwork.
I think i may have had a lag fix on it but as i was unable to get my phone to start there was no chance of removing it before i reflashed the phone. Now i just need to get the damn internal SD working again so i can have a working phone, can you help?
Also, sorry if my main post is a little rambling, i wrote it when i got home from the pub drowning my sorrorws and may have been a little drunk...
Ok, now i've had a coffee and my headache is dying down i can add a little more info which will hopefully help.
I just downloaded GT_I9000_XWJS7_XXJPY_XEEJS1 from Darky rom user guides page on restoring a SGS to a stock ROM and followed all of the instructions. the flash in Odin goes just fine, no errors or anything, my phone the reboots, gets to the Samsung Galaxy screen and i get into the recovery mode with the following messages :
Update media. please wait
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(no such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media: Can't mount SDCARD
Your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions
copy default media content failed.
This is where i then get stuck, my phone will just get stuck in a boot loop and there seems to be no way to get into the phone. This is starting to drive me to dispair now as everything i have tried has failed badly! Does anyone have any idea how i go about recovering from this?
ok so,
-flash froyo firmware (2.2.1 might be better) then flash speedmod kernel
-get into recovery mode and check your phone's file system in lagfix option
-if it is rfs change it to ext4
-if it is ext4 change it to rfs
im not sure about this method but i ever had this preblem after i converted system to rfs (ext4 before)
hope it helps you and tell me that it works or not, thanks.
edit:wrong word
FLash darky's resurrection Rom ...that error caused by you forget disable lagfix before...
or try Flashing a full rom (3files) with .pit to repartitioning your phone... thick repartition...and thats not "Brick" if you can go download mode...
Come on lets see
I once had the same problem. Same error.message. I searched a lot in xda n finally read something which says to flash Rom with 812 pit and eclair (2.1) with 3 files. After flashing the error message came again so I relished using only pda file. Next time it rebooted normally into home screen. Hope it helps
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
OK, we're getting somewhere now but not there yet. Flashing the speedmod kernel lets me boot the phone which is further than i have got for a day so thats good, but it still won't recognisse any internal or external SD cards, if you look in the settings section it just shows options to format the sd cards.
I tried changing the filesystem to ex4 as recommended but once it reboots when it says it will go to the recovery menu to debug it just presents me with the option to convert it again as it says the filesystem for /data is RFS still.
Any ideas why it would be doing this and why it won't recognise any of the memory cards? I have also noticed that when i connect the phone to my PC now and tell it to go into Mass storage mode, it shows the drives but says there is no media there! I'm very confused by the whole thing now but at least i do have a phone again of sorts!
So i flashed Darky's resurrection ROM and this is now booting up much as the phone was with the speedmod kernel flashed but i still have the same issue where it won't recognise either the external or internal SD cards so i have no storage space at all. Is it possible i have broken them? I assume at least a bit of the internal card is working or the OS wouldn't be there but why can it not see the other half of the card?
Right, after messing about for far too long i have bitten the bulit and sending it in for repairs, i've read through a couple of posts that seem to say it's the only way to fix it so will see how good the Samsung techicians are!
Thanks for all the help though, you've got me a working phone again, even if i can't save anything on it!
Can someone help me how to fix this problem. Before my sdcard keeps crashing, I just format it and its good again.but now My nexus one can't detect any sdcard. I tried sdhc of different sizes even sd only but still no luck. Problem started to happen when i install custom rom CM7...
Have another rom on card--put there thru pc if necessary
btw does the pc recognize card
if you have a known good rom on card, reformat with sdformatter with full erase and size adjustment on. partition card with 0 swap, maybe 1gb
with card back in phone wipe system/data/etc etc a couple times and flash new rom

Wow, reading comprehension test fail. Dude's phone does not recognize any SD cards he throws at it.
OP -- let's hope beyond hope that the problem is not hardware but software, something to do with the new ROM you installed. First, remove your SD card and reboot into recovery (if you don't know how to from within the OS, then just do this: 1) power down; 2) hold volume-down and power until you see the phone turn on; 3) choose recovery (either clockword or Amon Ra, if you have CM7, right?); 4) wipe data / factory reset). If it still doesn't work...you might be out of luck. I don't think you can actually flash a ROM without using an SD card...even manipulating the recovery through ADB requires that the ROM be located on the SD card.
I understood what OP said--
I am saying start with fresh card and then fresh install of different rom
I am not sure if he can get that far based on his comments, but I would try.
Can you still boot into recovery with no sd card? If so, as mentioned, do that with new rom on card, then put card in phone and mount it thru recovery, then flash rom after wipes.
Don't have a solid answer just options.
I have done every crazy thing I can think of to get phone back up and running and sometimes wasn't sure which step actually fixed it. Just that somehow I am still in the flashing business.
Definetly wipe system also------I do ALL wipes 3X--just my preference
And correct in that no SD Card, no place to put rom on N1
Hope you get it working Unleashed24
