Android 1.6 all builds, Wifi connected, no internet - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I have been searching for hours to no avail.
I have a rogers dream, currently running the stock android 1.6 dev build from the htc website.
The reason I went to this build, is because all custom builds happened to have the same problem.
I establish a wifi connection, but have no internet access in any of the applications, such as Gmail...

Wrong forum sunshine.

sorry, im still used to the way the Elf forum is run. All questions related to specific roms, were done under the dev section.
Please don't flame me, I did read the whole rules thing.
Any way, I solved my own issue. It seems that I had to manually set the channel both the phone and router are communicating on.

Wifi problems

Alright, this is my first post and I just recently got a Touch Diamond (my first 'smart' phone)...
I'm running into a problem that seems multiple people have been reporting - and that is Wi-Fi. Since the model that I got already came with the latest ROM installed (the one released mid July), I don't have anything to compare it to.
What's happening is that sometimes the phone will recognize my wifi connections, sometimes it won't. Even when I am able to successfully connect, it is only for a brief moment and then disconnects. Since I'm with T-Mobile and do not have a data plan, my main way of communicating will be through Wi-Fi. I'd REALLY like to know if there's anyone out there that might have any ideas...
I also tried updating the phone with the latest cooked SwiftBL ROM to see if maybe one of the modifications could fix it, but I still see the same problem. It's not my wifi because I've tried several other (non-secure) wireless connections and see the exact same problem with all of them. I saw on this forum who suggested to change the power settings of the Wi-Fi device, but that did nothing .
I'm at a loss....could it be a bug with the latest official ROM release?

problems with data connections on tilt

I've been searching and searching for a solution and haven't found one that works for me yet. If it has already been asked and solved then I apologize for asking again.
I have an AT&T Tilt which I flashed AthineOS' ME rom on in January. I love the rom and it works perfectly for me except that I have had constant problems with my data connection. It will be unable to find a connection and once found will randomly disconnect and be unable to reconnect. Once that happens I have to turn off the data connection, turn it back on, try again. when that doesn't work I have to turn off 3G and try again. Then that doesn't work and I have to soft reset. Then that doesn't work and I have to try everything 3 or 4 more times before it finds a connection.
I also noticed that before I flashed the rom it gave a timer displaying how long I'd been connected. It no longer does.
I've tried several radios with no success in respect to the data connection.
Any ideas? any help? I'd rather not flash a new rom - as I said, otherwise this one is perfect for me. But being unable to maintain a data connection is a pretty big frustration and inconvenience.
I appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks!

As this is custom ROM specific, you need to post in the thread relating to that ROM - that's where you'll find the most people using it (and its what the forum rules say). Seach that thread first as if it is an issue, there are sure to be a few AT&T users with the same problem - maybe a diff radio solves it for them? My TyTN II using the HTC original ROM has no such problems.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thread closed, please ask your question in the original ROM thread.

Help - Lost ability to connect to WiFi

I think this is in the right forum, but if not please move, and accept my apology. This past weekend I switch from Leofroyo to CM6. I also tried intersects new kernel and the new radio. After this I get constant disconnects to all of my Wifi spots. I have sense reflashed the froyo radio and the froyo kernel with both CM6 & Leofroyo and still can not connect to Wifi. Does anyone have any clue as to what might be the problem? I would greatly appreciate any help or advice as it would suck to no longer have wifi capability. Thank you in advanced.
At me after I have established Kang-o-rama 0.9 sp2 and have established a new kernel 2.6.35_AVS-800mV_CFS_20100702_0948 intersectRaven, have ceased to work WiFi and the address, reinstallation of the various insertions does not show mac, different kernels with drivers of positive result have not given, wifi does not work (
Wipe EVERYTHING and reinstall.
And it's not a correct section... This would go to Q&A.

[Q] WEP issues

HI,
My phone can't connect to WEP networks.
there is no problem with open or WPA networks.
I tried to delete the config file in the system/wifi folder.
I tried to replace the DHCPCD file as Guardian Bob suggested here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907772
with no luck!
Any ideas?
Thanks.
btw, it's android 2.2.1.
Kinda thin on the info. Whose ROM are you on? Do you get an error message or does it just not connect? Can you see the WEP network or does it not show up? Might be better off posting to the correct ROM-related sticky in Q&A as this is not a Captivate problem. Mine running A3 connects to WEP networks just fine.
Well, it goes from "Obtaining IP address from..." to "not in range" or " remembered" and then back to "Obtaining IP address from..." in a loop.
I tried two routers, I can see the networks but both of them are giving me the same problem.
My ROM is PILOTX, the problem is that I don't think they have an official forum for this.
I asked several people with the same ROM and they have no problems. I think maybe I installed some app. that screw my WIFI config or something....
If you know a better place to ask this question I will appreciate it.
Thanks.

Never heard of that ROM. Is there a thread on the Captivate forums for that one?
Anyhow... here are a couple of places... http://www.facebook.com/pilotxrom
or here... http://iandroid.co.il/forum/topic12091.html
Seems to be some chatter about that devs roms those places. Honestly have never seen that one before. Good Luck.
Thanks lownox. I know of this places, I post my question there before I came here.
I got no answer there.
You don't know this ROM because its a very small group from Israel
but it's a good and solid ROM.
Did you find a fix for this issue? I have the same problem with the stock 2.2 ROM. My wife has the same phone, same stock 2.2 ROM - but DOES NOT have this issue. So, 2 (same) phones, same ROM, but mine has this issue
The one difference is that my wife's phone does not have a data connection i.e, just work on wife (when available).
Regards
Nick

I've never heard of that ROM, either, which will make it very hard for anyone in here to help you if it is indeed a ROM problem. Like I said, I have never had issues with connecting to various networks and security protocols and I rarely see any posted problems like yours that aren't related to the modem being used on the phone. You might try the modem thread in Dev and see if there's a better one for your area that others can recommend, but be sure it will work with your ROM. Mixing modems with the wrong ROM base can be catastrophic.

It's an i9000 ported ROM with added hebrew locale.

I cannot agree with you on that, it's not as solid as you think. Mainly because when the developer modded it he had the i9000 in mind. And only minor changes were made to make it work on the captivate.
Don't interpret my words as disrespect for the developer. Any contribution to the android community is BLESSED. It's just that he has a lot more israeli i9000 users than captivate ones.
You right, there are lots of I9000 in israel, its the #1 hit after the Iphone. We dont have too many Captivate here. I guess you are from israel...?
Anyway, as much as hate replacing Roms, I think I have no choice to go for the CM...

[Q] VPN Connection Problems

Hey guys I posted this question here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45937125#post45937125 but since I didn't receive any usefull information and I am not on sprint but have an international version of the HTC I wanted to ask for help in this thread. I have read a lot about this problem in different section of xda with different devices and different android versions but not with our htc yet.
I cant connect proper to the vpn of my university. There is no connection problem with the vpn per se since my pc is able to make connections all the time and I am using it every single day. But I cant connect proper to the vpn with my phone. I can establish a VPN connection with the vpn of our university it even tells me that packages are beeing sent and received. BUT once i am connected the internet stops working after a 30-60 seconds. I tried even 3rd party apps like vpn root I can't get it to work.
My build is Trickdroid 11.0 with elementalX Kernel 5.4 allthough I tried also installing 4.22 stock and 4.1 stock as well as the 4.22 and 4.1 builds with trickdroid and elementalX so the issue appears to be somewhere else.
Please guys help me.
