Opening Programs - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hello everyone. Originally, I posted this in the WRONG place (habitually I follow the Rom Development thread. Here's my question:
I'm looking for a CAB if one exists; that allows me to get right back to an open program without having to hit the start menu button and find it in the list of programs again. For example: I have Google Maps open to an address. I go to the programs page by clicking my stylus on the Windows icon, open my navigational program. NOW... I wish to get right back to the Google Maps, but have to go BACK to the programs folder to click it's icon AGAIN as if opening it for the very first time.
In an older ROM (I think the original 6.1), I could click the start menu and the list would drop down with recently used programs on the top left. Even that ability would be better.
Anyone know of a CAB for this feature?
Thanks.

TRhis is what I use. WKTask

Customising the Today screen list of Items

Simple question, I hope. How do I add to or delete apps from the list on the Items tab (Start / Settings / Today)?
I currently have a list of 9 items, 2 of which are ticked but I can't see how to add or delete from the list.
Not checked items is NOT loaded in memory!
Items can be deleted from registry - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items. Every key under key Items represents settings for one today item - delete it and it disappears from the list in the Today applet.
Thanks. Can you point me to a suitable registry editor?
I guess I'm confused. If the app you're looking for isn't listed in the Items tab for today settings, it's 99.9% likely not to be a today plug-in, so adding it to the list won't help. Even if you did, it wouldn't run properly.
What specifically are you trying to add to Today? If it's an application (like Agenda One) that doesn't have a corresponding Today plug-in (like Pocket Plus or the HTC Home do) then you'll be adding it without much point.
Total Commander CE has good integrated registry editor. Another free PHM registry editor - http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/.
But - every good today plugin has uninstaller and typically there is no need to manually delete items. Be careful and good luck ...
When I installed TomTom it created an entry in the Items list. This was simply a shortcut to itself which appeared at the bottom of my Today screen.
I assumed that you could add any old app to this list and that would make it appear on the Today screen in the same way.
From what you are saying this would appear to not be the case?

On Today screen appear only very special programs ("dlls") with two exported functions. TomTom delivered mentioned special dll.
For other program You want to run from today screen make a link in some "host" Today plugin (Try Great SPB Pocket Plus - http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en)

I too have that TomTom shortcut at the bottom right corner of my Today screen. I do see a TomTom registry folder under today items for Today, but under Settings --> Today --> Items, TomTom is unchecked.
So, the question is: how specifically do I remove that shortcut, and how do I add others/another in its place (if I decide to).
FYI, I am using Pocket Plus, Mobile Shell and Phone Suite.
Thx
Update: Sorry for my ignorance. I am still learning WM6. This icon shows that TT is still active and disappears when the program is closed. Palm never had this issue since it can't multi-task.

Quick Menu on Tilt

Tryed this on my Tilt and so far it seems to run fine with no problems. It replaces/adds functionally to the start button on the main screen. Has alot of options to customize it also. Its freeware.Simply make a folder called quickmenu in your programs dir, and add the files and click to run it.
ya, been using it myself. I like it. it's a lot like Windows XPs start menu
I love how it adds a % to the topbar battery icon, no more guessing from the stupid bars anymore.
i use SPB pocket plus which adds a few pixel bar across the top. I prefer that spot that quick menus battery takes for HTC task manager. it's a preference thing though.
can you post a screen shot of what this looks like? Thanks
The author has a thread going in the hacking forum on xda:

I just noticed that.
Once you try it out you wont go back to the standard wm6 menu button. Infact you can run both at once if you want just click on "start" for the original menu, or the little windows icon next to it for this quick menu.
QuickMenu is fantastic
Long ago I used to use SmallMenu. It was too slow though, for some reason. I have been using QuickMenu for a couple of weeks and I cannot live witout it! In fact I thought Microsoft was going to build something like this into WM6, and was very surprised they didn't bother...
This is freeware from China. I have version 2.7.387.1527. The web site for this software is:
http://www.alensw.com
What version was posted here? And where can we get a version that will be upgraded in the future, and could have an english web site? I guess you could use google to translate the above web page...

Download zip from first post
unzip the 4 files in it
put the 4 files in a folder on your tilt (make a folder in "program files" called quickmenu)
browse to the exe and tap on it
should work just fine. You will not see anything setup on your ppc. After thats done just click on the windows start icon (upper left corner) and the smaller menu should appear all installed and ready to go.
It is not a pc setup program, the exe is already in ppc format and ready to run on your ppc.

shortcuts

I would like to add my "favorites" to the today screen. I've added the kaiser tweaks and the HTC homepage plugin. No where does it allow me to put my favorites on a tab or on the menu. Does anyone have a way to do this? It would make jumping online for something so much quicker. Thanks
If you're using HTC Home, you can add shortcuts to the "launcher" tab.
Go start>settings>today then at the bottom tab shift to "HTC Home" and make sure "launcher" is checked to display.
Then from your Today screen, tap over to the "launcher" icon. You'll see two rows of little squares now (the top row is filled in). You can tap a black square and it will allow you to select which application launches from that sqaure. The little "x" allows you to unlock the squares to remove them.
If you want to add an application or shortcut not on the availabe list, sync to your PC and go into your device.....create a shortcut in the windows>start menu folder.
Hope that helps...if that's what you were looking for.
* this may of course all vary depending on which version of HTC Home you have loaded
Sounded brilliant but it didn't work. I'm working on XP and it wouldn't allow me to make a shortcut on the mobile phone (tilt). So I just copied my favorites folder into the program files folder, start menu folder, and anywhere else I thought it might show up. I got it onto the start screen, but there was nothing in it. Any other suggenstions?

It will work with XP, you may need to open two windows to do it.
From your PC (my computer) open a window for the device....surf down to Windows>Start menu.
Now go back to "my computer" again and open a second device window. Surf down to whatever directory you are looking for...then drop/drag the exe into the open start menu window.....select "create shortcut" and your done

Not sure I follow. It may not appear until you restart the device.
You'll get it, though. Keep tinkering.
"Favorites" on your Kaiser

If I understand you correctly, I think what you want is to be able to open your Internet Explorer Favorites quickly and easily on your Kaiser. If that's the case, what you need to do is check the "Favorites" box in ActiveSync - that will port all your favorites to your mobile device - then when you open Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE), all your favorites are available from there.

Slow drawing Programs list not a driver issue? (NOT. Noticed before, you newb)

Hi folks,
A few administrative tasks that will hopefully prevent me from getting flamed:
This is not about Pocket IE scrolling at all, this pertains to clicking Start > Programs and scrolling through that list
I did search for existing topics about this, which can be proven here and here, but the search results were about Pocket IE slow scrolling and not about the Programs list.
This post is about an observation of mine, not a fix. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can find out why the following occurs and can possibly use this to our advantage
So, the issue is that when you go to Start > Programs and try to scroll through that list, the items in the list are drawn very slowly making the device feel sluggish. The cause of this has been attributed to the lack of drivers for the Kaiser.
You need HTC Home to be installed to try this:
Ensure that you have the "Launch Programs Folder" shortcut on the programs tab.
If not, click the red x, delete an existing shortcut and add it by clicking on the green plus.
Now launch the programs folder and try scroll.
Close it and compare the scrolling when launching the programs folder by going to Start > Programs.
Both methods give the exact same display of the programs folder, except that launching it from HTC Home draws the list MUCH faster when scrolling.
Why is this so? Is the programs folder launched in a different 'mode' from HTC Home? Most importantly, can this be used to our advantage for fixing other sluggishness on the device given the lack of drivers?
Now thats strange. I've noticed the difference in drawing speeds before but i'd never realised its because i'd launched it in different ways.
This is indeed an interesting observation. Also true in my case. The plugin scrolling is much faster.
Another thing I notice is that HTC plugin programmes list is slightly different from the Start>Programs list in as much as Total Commander is not listed on my HTC plugin list. So, are thes ways of listing programs looking at different shortcut listings? Or, is there something unusual about Total Commander?

Palm Application replacement

I switched from Palm to the Sprint TP with WM 6.1 (I love the change). When I had my Treo, there was a program called Sharklinks http://www.ludustech.com/sharklinks/ . It was great. It would create a palm launcher icon (shortcut), that was related to a browser url.
You would click on the shortcut, it would launch your browser, and bring you to the site.
Is there any such program that will work on the sprint TP.
TIA
You have a few options. If you want to access the icon from the today screen, you can add the URL shortcut file as a document to Today plug-ins like Resco Explorer.
You could also drop the URL shortcut into your /Windows/Start Menu directory or /Windows/Start Menu/Programs to get to it other ways.
I made the switch from Palm OS several years ago and am never going back.
use touchflo
as i recall, touchflo 3d displays your favorites from opera on the internet tab under the youtube link!
I guess I am trying to figure out how to create the url shortcut.
I want to set up a folder under the start menu for streaming radio stations.
I then want to setup shortcuts in the folder so that when I click on them the Station starts to play.
Do I just copy the URL, and past in the folder to create the shortcut for that url.
I am a windows maniac, but I am just learning WM 6.1
Bump to the top
bump to top
Is there a way to create folders in the Start menu in WM6.1 Pro? And, to this guy's point, is there a way to make an item in the Start menu be a URL?
I figured my problem out. I was able to click on the radio station links, and they created ASF files in the music folder. I then used Shortcut Creator to create shortcuts to the ASF files in a folder in the programs section of start up.
And to answer JonDeutsch's question: the easiest way is to access your mobile device re: activesync, go to the directory windows/startup/programs, and right click, and new folder.
Hope that helps.
P.S. I still have not figured out how to actually create a URL Short cut that I can put into any folder I want. This community is a great group of developers. This would be a great program to develop.
