If your talking about pictures that you only want viewable in something like "Astro File Manager" you could put a dot in front of the folder in question.
For example, for the pictures I have of my GF, i hide it by naming the folder ".GF" and it wont show in Gallery at all... but if you use a file browser like Astro you can view the files by going into the folder.
In Linux, a dot before the name of the folder usually means a hidden folder, hence thats why gallery won't pick it up then.
ive added dots to the beginning of some of the folder, but they are still appearing in the gallery
try using the nomedia file.
connet your phone to your computer, go to the file you don't want pic, music or whatever from create a new txt file open it, save as name nomedia change file type ot all files remove the .txt extention and then delete the first .txt file..
works for me...

ok i didnt understand all of what you said but i will try
ok that didnt work either. i think its because the images i am trying to hide are in a .zip file. for example the themes that you can download for lock 2.0 and weather widgets donate. anyone know how to hide these images?
so none has a solution to this problem?

If you wana hide pic, you can use advanced launcher to just hide the gallery. Images in a zip should not come up in your gallery unless the zip was extracted. I think you my have images in your "download" folder. Just move them somewhere else and they shouldn't come up anymore

mount your g1 to the computer and then do a search for one of the 210 files you see ... and then find the path and navigate to it and you should find them all
either delete them or hide the folder by preceding the name by a period... so if the folder is named "pictures", name it ".pictures"
Hmm.
Doesnt seem to find anything when I search for the folder or any of the pictures. Its obviously on my sd because when remove it and go to gallery there is no media. I have used the it utility app to move all my caches to my sd and also back up my applications. The folder seems to be showing me all the icons etc required for a few programs. Snapphotopro and quickoffice to name a few. No a2sd or anything just root cyan 3.9.8 and kspecoreo theme. It has been like this for sometime now through various flashes and themes so i know its on my sd...but where!

Try this: http://www.darktremor.com/upload/changes-signed.zip
scratch that, i packaged it wrong, there is the main folder "Changes-signed" and inside of that there is a "changes" folder, then they system folder inside of that and the "framework-res.apk" folder is still a zip and not apk, it just has an alias apk file name fml

I use mac too. The way you zip it is go into the folder where it is, select the contents, right-click and hit compress. It should save into archive.zip. Now, to sign it, use this amazing tool. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=573498 Put the testsign.jar in Macintosh HD and put the app in the dock. Just drag the zip you want to sign onto the icon, and wait for the dot to go away under the sign app. Then, go to the folder where the original zip was, and there should be a Myzip-signed.zip. That should be a flashable zip as long as there's an update-script.

Ok, you know what... just make a metamorph file. Metamorph is much easier.
Wait, what? You were trying to reinstall framework-res.apk? Nonononono. No. You need to write an update-script. It will put the apk in /data/app (or /sdext/app) if you install it as an apk.

the easiest way to do what you are talking about is to use something like 7zip or winzip to open , NOT UNZIP, the apk. Next, open up the zip you made. Now, drag the folder called res from YOUR zip into the open window of the apk. This should replace the old folder with your new one that contains all your edits. Now just close the opened apk, and you are done. Simple.

So here's the issue: Drededstar has unzipped the framework apks, and changed the files...now he wants to know how to turn the .zip folder into actual apk files.
Macs don't have 7zip or ANY program that lets you look into apk contents without unzipping them all the way. So, you have to unzip them. Then once you're done making the changes, you need to change them back to apk files. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THEM BACK TO APK FILES?!!!
I have a mac too, but I do all my theming on my wife's computer...and she's probably tired of me kicking her off. If anyone knows how to do this one simple step could you please let us mac users know?!! Thanks!
as long as the file structure is right, you just have to rename the zip file to apk.
Mods please delete. I figured out my errors and all is well.
If anyone is having trouble with this as I was, please refer to these instructions. I'm sorry, I forget who posted them but credit to whoever you are. Big help.
1. Transfer the apk from your phone to your computer. It's probably in a place like data/app or data/data or the like
2. Open the apk with 7zip. Do not extract the whole thing, just open it. Inside you'll see a folder called "res"; transfer that somewhere on your computer.
3. Inside the res folder you'll see a bunch of folders. The images you want to edit are usually in a folder labeled "drawable", but you may have to look elsewhere
4. Find the background image you want to edit. It might be labeled widget_bg or something helpful like that.
5. Edit it how you want. In the case of transparency, you want to delete the background and make it entirely transparent. Save it in the same format and do not change the name. (Note- if your file has .9.png in it, you have to open your edited version using draw9xpatch or whatever in the Android SDK and save it through that as well)
6. Drag the res folder with your modified images back into the archive, using 7zip. You might want to use a duplicate of the apk, just to have the original on hand in case something goes wrong.
8. Place the modified apk into the place-apk-here-for-modding folder in the APK Manager folder
9. Open up script.bat. Select your project using option 22.
10. Do the following things- Extract APK (1), Zip APK (3), zip as regular apk (2), sign apk (4)
At this point you should have a signed version of the apk in the place-apk-here-for-modding folder. You can transfer it to your phone now and install it. Or install it directly onto your phone through apk manager if you have ADB enabled.

Wait a minute, you click on the application from your file manager, opening it in your App Manager, and it says Application not Installed?
That makes no sense at all. The only time I've encountered that is when I've tried using an app that was stored on my SD card, which wasn't put in. That app was on my homescreen too.
I'll have the .apk on my SD card somewhere and I'll try to install in through a file explorer with the error message above.
I tried installing through Dropbox, but that also gets me the error message. I've uninstalled all applications of the same name because that's what you're supposed to do. It's weird, I know. I'm trying to work through it right now.

HTC desire 2.2 froyo
So I've been asking for help from all the great LS-Themers on XDA with little things like changing the music controls to notifications to resolution, etc.
I've been wanting to do the edits myself, but XML editing seemed a little hard.
Anyway, I tried today and correct me if I'm wrong, but, when you want to edit the XML of a LS, you change the mtz file to zip. Unzip it and you should be presented with the files in that lockscreen, pngs, etc.
I unzipped my current LS, 'iDroid.' I got none of that.
I'm attaching the screenshot of what shows when I unzip it.
In the 'description' XML file, I don't get a huge XML code..I get this;
Code:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
<MIUI-Theme><title>iDroid Slide2Unlock</title><author>thefsfempire</author><version>1.0</version><uiVersion>1</uiVersion></MIUI-Theme>
I've opened it with the XML Editor that's on my computer. Microsoft Word and Firefox. They all show that ^
And then there's that 'lockscreen' file. That's just...a file. I can't do anything with it.
There are no folders that show the pngs and stuff.
What am I doing wrong? D: I want to start editing little things on my own, instead of asking everyone all the time.

Oooh ok. I got it. Thanks. I didn't know you had to change that to zip too.
Okay, so now that I got the editor and I can start changing little things.
In order for this to take effect, I need to save it over the original file as XML.
What about this 'manifest.xml.bak' file? Should I do anything with that, or leave it alone?
Once I've done the edits and save. I need to rezip the advanced folder it's in with 'themes value' that was unzipped with it, then how do I rename it back to just a 'file' type?

You don't need the manifest.xml.bak you can delete that if you want
To zip it back up you need winrar
You need to have everything in the right folders, so you need your advance folder with your manifest in there, and you need the theme_value..
You have to add those 2, to archive by selecting them and right clicking
Then with the winrar pop up you need to make sure 'store' is selected under compression or method, not at a computer/laptop so not 100% which it is and also make sure zip is selected not rar
Finally remove zip extension from the file and zip the whole lock screen back
EDIT: NVM I GOT IT. YAY. Haha. I can now do little things by myself on future lockscreens.
Now, the next thing I need to learn how to do is changing battery charging status and pngs.
you can use the "old format":
that is
your_theme
|__description.xml
|__preview (optional)
|__lockscreen (it is a folder)
......|__advanced (it is a folder too, coming from lockscreen)
..............|__all lockscreen stuff (as files)
......|__theme_values.xml (in lockscreen)
you ahve to zip in the contents of "your_theme" and name it mtz. then copy to phone and phone asks if you want to convert to new format. chooese yes and done
God! said:
Alright, I added the Advanced folder and themes value file to winrar.
Selected Zip and "Store" under the compression menu. Then ok.
Well it saved it as a zip as 'lockscreen' but there's no way to change it back to just the 'file' type it was.
I tried zipping THAT zip with the rest of the files into a zip, then renaming it to mtz and applying it on my phone, but it just ended up being the default lock.
I must be doing something wrong.
Click to collapse
When you have zipped it up using the store and zip options, and are left with lock screen.zip.. Open the zip with winrar, don't extract just open, when winrar opens with the files go back a step so you can see the lock screen.zip rather than its files and just delete the zip extension that way and close winrar

This method is by far easy and quicker in my honest opinion
Alrighty then.
Now onto my next issue.
How hard would it be to take away the charging battery/status off this lockscreen and replace it with this kind of battery charging status?
As you can see, the default iPhone charging covers up the music controls and notifications when they come in. I want just the simple glowing bar above the unlocker like the other one.
if you have both manifests then you can swap in the battery section to the ls you want (look for "battery")
you have to copy the appropiate images to your ls and might have to change coordinates
Thanks Picard. That wasn't as hard as I thought.
I deleted all the battery images from the first one and put in the ones from the second.
Deleted the battery section in the XML and replaced it with the other.
Changed the coordinates and ****ing bam! I did it!
Edit; Fixed my coordinate mistake.
Hey! Is there a way to change the default location of the screenshot? I can't use Google photos properly like this, it keeps on sync my screenshot folder.
Tnx.
Screenshot location can vary. For me it's Pictures/Screenshots. I can (and have) disallowed Google Photos from syncing that folder. Where do your screenshots go?
It's going to DCIM/screenshot.
And Google automatically backup this entire folder so, it's a problem for me.

A file, not a folder. Inside the screenshots folder make a file called .nomedia.
It's a built in method in Android to exclude folder contents from certain apps.

Sad to say, but I solved it using "Auto File transfer Lite" (Search at google play)
It's not the best solution, but at least is an acceptable workaround IMHO.
Just hope some day Google allows to select DCIM subfolders to sync or Xiaomi to change screenshot folder destination.
