How-To build a ROM:
Extract the DEV folder
Extract one ROM to DEV
Extract one OS to DEV
Extract one LOC to DEV
Extract all OEM Packages you need to OEM
Run CreateOS.exe and click the button
Run CreateROM.bat
Done, your new ROM is located at DEV/Temp/NK.nbf
How-To build ur own OEM Package:
An OEM Package is just a simple folder containing files and registry settings for the ROM
First of all you'll need a GUID number for your Package.
Go to http://kruithof.xs4all.nl/ uuid/uuidgen to get one.
In my case:
283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db
Necessary steps:
1. Create a new folder:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/
2. Create a empty text file:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db.dsm
(CreateOS.exe will finish this file for you)
If needed:
3. Create an UNICODE text file:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db.rgu
This file could be used to add registry entries to the ROM
First line is:
REGEDIT4
...
and there MUST be a empty line at the end!!
4. Create an UNICODE text file:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/initflashfiles.txt
This file could be used to create folders or copy files on the ROM.
Example: Open Dev/LOC/initflashfiles.dat using a text editor
Copy all files you need to Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/
First Big Thanks to MAMAICH for his great tools that makes this possible, and BEPE for this briliant method of buildin rom that make it really easy for everyone and also BIG Thanks to indra9110 for lot of help, thanks dra...really appreciate it bro...
This is still on test stage, so trust me, something might be wrong or anything, I'm really need an input on this method, since I'm not so familiar with bepe's briliant way, he'll do it better I supposed? hehe....
Midget_1990, xplode, Black6spdZ, thingonaspring, logout , tautara and others input and help will be a huge help for make it better.
regard,
Helmi

Hi helmi, this is real good stuff.
What's the intention however? I quite like the current state of affairs with everyone focussing on one ROM. One ROM to rule them all etc.
Is the idea for people to start creating their own? I'd rather see everyone pull together to produce one fantastic BA WM5 ROM. We aren't all that far away from it just now. But if we start to fragment the effort, it'll slow things right down.
I made many packages for my Himalaya. It would be great to make some place on ftp to share them. This place shouln't be device specific (as I remember some of packages are uploaded into BA or Wizard section)
But better place would some wiki page, where people could write which package works on which hardware.
Also it's good idea to notice in package name which version of software it is, and if it's UPXed or not (I'm UPXing almost all packages gaining about 50% of space)
I have:
AKU 2.2+ Title Bar Clock
AutocompletePL
Call2Contact_1.0
CamRecSvc_by_ADX
Cambridge_bluetooth (Himalaya)
Compact_Framework_2
DKToday 1.80
DSP
DorucenkaSMS
ExtROMUnlock_UPX
File Support
FlightMode (Himalaya?)
GB-SOFT Tweak
MagicButton_2.0_UPX
NetCFVersion
O2_Operator_UPX
PQView
Regedit_PHM_0.70+TRE_0.90_UPX
Reset
SimMessaging 0.04
SoftKeyAppletEx
TaskMgr1.6
Tcpmp_0.72RC1_UPX
TodayAgenda
Toggle
Total Commander 2
TreoSpeedDial_UPX
VJVolubilis_0.41_UPX
WM2k5 SMS Alert Fix (Himalaya?)
WM5 NewMenu_1.0_UPX
WM5torage 1.7 (seems 1.5 is more stable)
XCPUScalar
idiffce_0.3_UPX
Personally i miss AEButton package but can't do it.
Some of them are unfinished (NET CF2 is the most important of them), some of them are untested because i'm still in process of converting new packages
And it would be nice to group packages by type, maybe place them in submenus

its still early stage, we need more people involved, but maybe with thingonaspring here (I believe he ready to put some nice stuff here), midget, blackspz, logout, tautara, xplode , everyone who willing to work as a team, for me its doesnt matter who build/make the rom, I believe we just want a ROM that we can use right? so working together on the fix / update issues would produce a "Best" or "less bug" rom, plus with ability to customizing it for personal use. well, at least that my intention. hopes we all can work together.

this is exactly what I want.. people share their stuff.. and make our BA more rich with feature/option on spesific stuff... yes u might modify anything if u thing necessary (as long u didnt delete it ...lol) and inform about the update, so others know about it.

About ROM Kitchen and 'the One ROM'
The ROM Kitchen is a wonderful idea.
IMO, things should walk towards stabilizing a base ROM with all features working (including WModem ).
But we also shouldn't leave to the users the effort to create their own ROMs, that's too troublesome.
Maybe all devs could get closer together and agree on some tools to integrate to it, and call it the 'XDA ROM', instead of Bepe, Helmi, TuMa or whatever.
So, we could have a 'BASE ROM', meant to be used on the ROM Kitchen, and the XDA ROM supported by all devs, built from the BASE ROM with tools which were agreed to be useful, so the less geeky can have a nice working ROM to update their BAs with. With things like PHM regedit, ability to choose between BT stacks, GB Soft Tweak and other useful stuff.
That does not stop the devs from having their own name branded ROMs placed on the site...
Agreed, a base ROM system is the best of both worlds. Say I was to pickup a base ROM and build on it, is there anything I can do that can't be done using ExtROM installers? Sure, you get to put stuff in the ROM, but it's already stuffed full it would seem!
I remember reading about an anti-theft application that you could put in the ROM. If the phone number changed, it would start sending you text messages telling you about the current owner/thief. Is this an option for the BA once we get a kitchen?
I will test it tonight after work, , i will test my latest SAP package and maybe if it works OK i will post it in this thread
i still have to dump some devices roms to see what can i get from them, at this moment i have new versions of CommManager and WlanMgr and maybe fix for wifi integration, but first should test it...
Once again i want to thank everyone involved in WM5 development for BA
It will be a very long list .. so i will mention just a few names:
mamaich, bepe, helmi, logout, tuatara, Midget_1990 and many more
Right way to roll in UPXed system apps?
OK, I have just decompressed all files, but I have no OEM packages rolled int yet.
I have tested many UPXed system dlls and exes, and I would like to roll them in to save space, in place of the original ones.
Where do I put them?
Attempted to build a base rom from the files provided and i am getting an error after clicking on CreateOS. The error is "Error: OS\2849e391-1e39-4a98-87b9-53932dec51d3 is not listed in packages.sof". How do you add or remove packages listed in the sof file or is that possible? How can i remedy this error?
Thanks in advance
i have 3 errors for 3 folders in os folder, i just moved them into oem folder
more results soon
I had the 3 errors too, and moved the files to OEM. The ROM image was built (apparently) was successfully built.
BUT, the million dollar question is:
How much free space do we have without adding any OEM stuff at all (a BARE ROM)?
We need to know our KB budget to know how much we can roll in...
I have the same error. What did you move exactly?
OK i have it.
It's:
2849e391-1e39-4a98-87b9-53932dec51d3
e3055288-19cd-4317-9125-a63654628fb3
fb30fdba-23d9-4a92-af78-041b1ee1d46c
Move them from the OS directory to the OEM directory

When you get the error, move the folder with that name to OEM.
Another subject:
Hey all,
I have unpacked the ROM (nk.nba), replaced all folders ending with .exe and .dll with the actual file contained in each, and UPXed all exes and dlls.
Suspicious files are automatically skipped by UPX, and I compressed them with 'upx -i --compress-exports=0 --compress-resources=0 --strip-relocs=0', because when I was testing compressing (Office) with the default options, it didn't work. All compressible files worked, with these options.
The 'dump' contents went from 52,3 MB to 30,6 MB.
The catch: I don't know if the nk.nba generated from them will work
I haven't tried repacking it into an nba and flashing a ROM. Does anyone want to experiment with this file?
EDIT:
After BuildImgfs.exe finished, it reported the following:
Total Sectors: d2a8
Used Sectors : b984
Free Sectors : 1924
In decimal: 53928,47492,6436.
How big is a IMGFS sector? 512bytes? 1KB? more?
/EDIT
i did it with a few files
simply deleted them and created OEM package with UPXed versions
My Himalaya is flashing now AKU 3.2!
It flashed ok, hovewer entering BT settings hangs device
I will wait for Bepe
EDIT: BT stack is my fault cause by UPXing it
i create my rom ... very fast
but when i turn off my 9090 , it don't turn on ( display is balack)
any solution?
hi,
how to build a SD-Card Images?
I've made WM6.1 ROM kitchen for Himalaya on the base of c_shekhar's WM6.1 ROM.
It's 3-rd beta version (for testing)
- .NET CF 3.5 / 2.0 optional
- SQL CE 3.5 / 3.0 otional
- new Touch-like Dialer optional
- other packages sorting
- some OEM-soft removed
- offset for PagePool change (HEX-edit): 0x004575b8
- offset for RAMDisk change (HEX-edit): 0x00456250
Here is the link (re-updated at 19.03.2008)
http://www.4shared.com/file/41258519/5557caa1/AvS_6_1_Kitchen_b3_clean.html
p.s. Many thanks to C_Shekhar for the base ROM!
And thanks to all that guys, who makes ROM-tools!
Avis.
Hm? Made ROM, flashed, now the screen stays white, though ActiveSync conects without a problem and thru it i can even browse the file system. Since this is my first time at this, will someone please tell me what i did wrong?
I deselected most of the options, kept the following:
- .NET CE 3.5
- SQL CE 3.5
- Office 2007
- SMS Alert Fix
- no RAM Disk selected (i suspect this is wrong)
Nice efforts Avis! Hope it works fine for the people.
The kitchen is full of too many packages and option to select/deselect them as well. But since the Hima ROM size is very small (32MB only) and the OS of 6.1 is very big in itself, then you have to deselect most of the options to have successful cooking.

I haven't tested SQL CE.
And if You deselect RAM DISK (or select any other, then 48 Mb - it's default in this kitchen) - You HAVE to edit nk.nba (in the tmp folder after runing BuildOS) with HEX-edit and set proper size (search this forum for correct values) on offset 0x00456250

I hope too.
Thanks to You for XIP-porting and registry making
p.s. It looks strange, that cprog.exe is in XIP-section now...
Thank you for clearing that up.
Isn't it the SQL CE required for contacts and sms database? Or maybe there is SQL CE 3 built in anyway? Then the SQL CE 3.5 is simply upgrading it? Sory about the many questions, i still have lot to learn
I also noticed that if WMP selected, the BUILDIMGFS crashes - there is a "send/don't send" windows error message. Thou it would seam that it happens after it is done it's work.
10x in advance.
P.S.: At this point I had no luck in cooking a functioning ROM, no matter what options I use, not even the default ones.

No, contacts & sms don't use this databse.
I don't know what th SQL CE for in my PDA and I don't use it

This Crash appears only if You select too many packeges in BuildOS. Deselect some of them and try again. And look carefully for free sectors after build (after running createROM.bat).

The crash ocured even when WMP was the only thing selected. 2 times i tried making ROM with default settings, one time the crash ocured, second time not. Every other time there was crash, and free sectors never went below 8F. I was trying to make clean-lean ROM.

I read it, didn't understand all of it, but as far as i can understand i didn't make anything "bad", but simply I don't get working ROM. It's probably my fault, i must be missing something. As I said before, it's new to me. Hope I will not be too much of a nuisance. I'll continue reading and try to understand it better. Thanks again.
P.S.: Practiced some on the 6.0 kitchen and had no problems there.
P.S. 2: I used the Syed Ather's WM6.1 AKU 1.0.0 and xda2nbftool.exe from your kitchen:
xda2nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040304
hex edited nk.nba at offset 0x00456250, from FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 07 to FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 08
xda2nbftool -c -u nk.nba
xda2nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040304
flashed the ROM and the result was similar to the cooked ones witj your kitchen - XDA boots into white blank screen, conects to PC ActiveSync, even the file system is browsable, but no interface on the screen.
Is it possible that there is a problem with xda2nbftool.exe or might the 0x20040304 be wrong?

Maybe You don't have enough free HDD-space or free RAM on Your PC?

If You want to change RAMDisk size on some cooked ROM You have to do 2 things:
1) HEX-edit nk.nba (You did it correctly)
2) decode "default.hv" into ".rgu" file - this is registry. Find and set correct size for RAMDisk
(in case of kitchen this done automaticaly depending on selected value in BuildOS)
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RAMDisk] --> 00 MB RAMDisk
"Size"=dword:00000000
"Address"=dword:98000000
p.s. and try reuploaded kitchen
p.p.s. btw, I have 06E3 free sectors if cook with all options unckecked
Thanks again. I knew I was missing something. I'll try what you suggested.
Kitchen reuploaded.
Boot-init bug fixed.
Can you upload in rapidshare? I download in mediafire.com always disconnect until 99%. Thank you.
I'm sorry. I already remote upload in rapidshare.
http://rapidshare.com/files/99144452/AvS_wm61_kitchen_b1.rar
After the boot-init fix I finaly have my own home-brewed, cooked and working ROM. So you might be tiresome to hear this over and over gentlemen, but thanks again for your wonderfull work, you wonderfull people that made WM 6.1 possible.
But ofcourse as a newbie I would bore you with some questions yet again, sorry for that.
I have two isues with the cooked ROM:
1. It would seem that the keyboard is now a floating "window" and by the way, me and some other people on the forum apparently, don't like the new keyboard skin. Is there a way to fix either of these?
2. The Office (Word and Excel) apear to go outside of screen boundaries, there should be a toolbar at the bottom, but it isn't there and the text and scrollbar do not end at the bottom menubar, but go beneath it.
I would apreciate if you answer, if you find the time. Thank you again and in advance.
Edit: Here are some screenshots:
- The keyboard is in a floating window, you can see the titlebar
- The keyboard floating window is draged and moved
- Another shot of keyboard moved around
- The scrollbar is beneath the menubar, office apps are outside screen boundaries
- The scrollbar is missing a button, it is outside the screen boundaries
- The toolbar is enabled but is out of sight
Doesn't anybody have any idea how to fix the floating keyboard?

Yes. This bug come from one of the ROMs, that I used for kitchen...
You can fix it in registry
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip]
"DragStyle"=dword:0
Anyway - this is fixed in new version of kitchen.
Kitchen reuploaded
fixed:
- floating keyboard
- .NET 3.5 conflicted with Phone
+ new dialer added
Thank you! You're the best
Great work...i have my self built a new kitchen for the hima's..its coded in C++ ..but its for very advanced users...just yesterday ive been discharged from the hospital..
Hey AVIS,
thanks for yor very well work. All my trys with your kitchen are working without any Problems. One Question, what are your Z-Fix-Tweaks for ?
- are they Bug Fixes ?
- do you need them for your Russian-Version ?
- are they for your personal preferences ?

This pack contains some optional registry-tweaks.
- moves Internet cache to Storage Card
- sets "SMSDeliveryNotify" flag
- turns On "ClearType"
- adds Operator Names, that works on exUSSR territory
- and other small tweaks (You can look inside .rgu file in that package for full list)
Being new to the forum and only having my device for 2 weeks i have tried all kitchens and roms , i used your kitchen to build a very light rom and have added most of Poorlyduck's Vista Suit and Slither SCLPC++ Cube with the Vista graphics i have came across a small problem though,i was wanting to add SpbELF_CalculatorSkin Vista style graphics but cannot replace SpbCalc_L.gif with SpbCalc_L.png and SpbCalc_R.gif with SpbCalc_R.png ,mabey there is a configuration file for this i duno , i just don't want to have to start again just to remove the SpbCalc stuff, anyway of making a flashable backup of my current image so that i can edit the nk.nbf/nba ?

Being new to the forum and only having my device for 2 weeks i have tried all kitchens and roms , i used your kitchen to build a very light rom and have added most of Poorlyduck's Vista Suit and Slither SCLPC++ Cube with the Vista graphics i have came across a small problem though,i was wanting to add SpbELF_CalculatorSkin Vista style graphics but cannot replace SpbCalc_L.gif with SpbCalc_L.png and SpbCalc_R.gif with SpbCalc_R.png ,mabey there is a configuration file for this i duno , i just don't want to have to start again just to remove the SpbCalc stuff, anyway of making a flashable backup of my current image so that i can edit the nk.nbf/nba ?

the solution is very simple..i too faced it..just open the gif file in Photoshop or any image editing software..and convert it (save as) to PNG format or vice versa..this should solve your problem
Hey all..its me again with a new App..Initflashfile Editor+Builder..Every thing is coded in C#
There are two Purposes of this Program :
1. To Build an initflashfile
2. To Hex Edit the Initflashfile and Remove the two extra bytes added by Notepad
Installation :
After you download the Program..there will be a Setup Utility..run it and make sure You DONT CHANGE THE DEFAULT INSTALLATION LOCATION as my Program will look for the files in C:\aher\initflashfile editor+builder\
a Shortcut will be created on your desktop
Requirments :
To speed up the app and use less resources i used .Net Framework 3.5
so you all will be needing .Net Framework 3.5 ( many computer have it now adays )
Instructions :
Once you fire up initflashfile editor+builder from the Desktop..you will see a windows with four Images on the right hand side..they have been labled..
Press the build button and my own initflashfile builder will start ..open a new document and when saving it save it to C:\aher\initflashfile editor+builder\ by the name of initflashfiles..now exit the Builder and Press the Edit Button..my script will run and it will remove the two bytes
MAKE SURE YOU PLACE THE INITFLASHFILE IN THE
C:\aher\initflashfile editor+builder\
Click to collapse
because the script will look for it there only
and Please read the Help file before Doing any thing

What is the advantage of this over EditPad in editing the initflashfiles.dat?
well..i havent tried Edit Pad ..but my app Creates the initflashfile without the Two Extra bytes
great!!! let´s talk via msn... making a good job there! keep on!!
haven´t tried it yet. BUT my dream is to have an initflash generator...where i can drag and drop all files from a not complete made OEM pack from packacreator
and then the generator automaticly creates links to ALL files i drope??
maybe this is doing it...i will test
There is an app that does what u want
its called " Initflash files generator "..its in the HyperCore..but never got it to work

Hi friends!
I think the topic pretty much says it all;
This is a native WM 6.5 Kovsky OEMXIPKernel/xip.bin/nk.exe - aware of the new Slot 60/Slot 61 Module virtual memory layout - what does this mean for you as a chef?
Now you don't have to recmod any modules in \SYS anymore, to port over WM 6.5! And you have 64mb free to convert more files to modules!
But you will need to use a relocation tool that is aware of the new memory layout;
Ervius Visual Kitchen + Bepe's New Kitchen do this with the "Real WM 6.5 AKU" checkbox
There's also a build of "WMReloc" 2.0 floating around that may support this, that would be compatible with the "old style" kitchen (buildos + g'reloc, it would replace g'reloc)

nice!!! thnx i have been waiting for this for a while now!!! thnx

visual kitchen v10.2 with XPR.... i noticed that the rom date is not valid....
can someone explain what this means to the layman please? you guys seem very excited about this
does that mean we should be excited about it as well? what are the benefits etc plesase
integrate to visual kitchen for kovsky
now have "real" wm6.5 on my device.
Big thanks Br.
Don't seem to be able to change the date with xipporterex in visualkitchen, when I press "Find Date/Version on \ROM\Xip\" is gives the following (see attached image).
So I'm not able to change the year since it is not loaded from ROM.
Anyone knows how to fix?
Very interested this. But not really sure if I understand what it is. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong. This is an ROM folder for the xperia? Not an Ported one but a real one right?
@Lokatho:
This is a common problem with XIPPorterEx and newer nk.exe - the method it uses to figure out which string is the version string does not work properly - if you change those incorrect values it's likely something will break.
Instead - use a hex editor, search for your version string - find it, and change it in the hex editor
This will work fine
The issue is with XIPPorterEx's algortihm - maybe you can report it to ervius, and he'll fix it up
very nice
thank you very much
not really sure what this is. but will it somehow bridge the big performance issue with x1 and the HD or TD2 (almost same specs but noticeably faster perormance)?
Does anyone still have this file? The link no longer works. Thanks.

Hi!
After a nights spent on cooking, making tools etc. I should publish it!
For all ramdisk lovers and haters, there you will get any option you want to install!
Screens in attachments
__________________________
How to install:
Unpack 7z file (winrar could help, 7z is best)
You will get RELEASE folder with 6 folders in, it's ramdisk sizes! Go into folder with ramdisk you need, then click upgrade.
anything fixed, gprs works, input menu works )
I also include newest aerokitchen with preconfigured 25006 (used to build this rom)
__________________________________________
Kitchen tutorial:
To build a single rom with ramdisk 0, open Start Automatic.bat file, and you don't have to do anything until upgrade screen will open! could take 7 minutes to build.
To build all ramdisks, click Start All Ramdisks.bat file, and better go do something, RELEASE folder will update to newest files you had built. It could take 30 or more minutes to build.

Links:

There is many nk.nba and nb.nbf files which are almost the same, just ramdisk settings will differ, but winrar can't see no difference and compress all files as normal, 7zip can see it and compress one file, then add differences only 7z is a god! Of course compression level was set to ultra
Ermm...
Ive got so feed back if your interested.
bubble breaker doesnt work and could you upload the theme for the beta you did because i liked that better. please?
flyboy
thank you.
aeroflyluby thank you.

I think that was not a god idea to port 25006, maybe we should port something newer?
Downloading now as we speak! .
Oh one request if you don't mind, can we have the background colour merges with the button colours (Windows, Contacts, Set) at the task bar? I don't really like oval buttons standing out of the background. I am not even sure if I am making sense here? .
I will report back as soon as I test it.
Thanks and Best Regards
Jay
I can confirm about the contacts not being able to add however strange thing I have noticed is that all my contacts were shown as duplicated until I rebooted the device again.
Not sure if that is what happend to anyone else as well?
Other than that I can see that the ROM is quite fast. I think I'll wait for the contacts to be fixed before trying another go.
Regards
Jay

Ye i can say its the fastest wm6.5 rom i have ever used. And i must of tryed about 10.
You could try porting 28014? (i think thats it)
flyboy
oh and i think the beta was better so iam switching back.
Hello,
to be honest the only thing stopping me to try this ROM now is the contacts list. I am heavily dependent on contact list since I hardly can remember anyone's number, so I can't really test it unless that is being fixed.
Regards
J
i use resco contact manager and the contack work.
