Two Apps Stuck, Can't Open, Can't Uninstall - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So after getting back up and running thanks to numerous members of this forum, I re-downloaded all my apps, and everythings good except for two of my most-used apps: Facebook and Pandora. My phone is telling me that both are installed, but they're nowhere to be found. The Market app has "OPEN" and "UNINSTALL" on the bottom of the page, but both are greyed out and I cannot select either choice. There are no folders on my SDCard for either app, and I can't uninstall them as they don't appear anywhere on my phone. Also, I can't install them because the market app is reading them on my phone. I'm in a bit of a pickle, as these are are both important apps to me. Anyone who could help would, as always, be owed a beer if they find themselves in NYC.

your gonna have to uninstall them using atrackdog or some app that uninstalls other applications. if that doesnt work, wipe your ext partition, and re download everything.

ALL my apps are stuck now...
Okay, I did what was suggested and wiped my partition, and now I have none of the apps installed on my phone, but when I go to the Market to re-download EVERYTHING, the Market app says everything is installed, and again, the buttons on the bottom to either OPEN or UNINSTALL are greyed out and i can't click either. So now, instead of only having two apps like this, ALL MY APPS are not on my phone, I can't download them, and can't uninstall them.
Any ideas?

Wipe from recovery. You didn't need to clear your partition, just remove the apk's for those two apps.

Clear your market cache to start, I think that will do the trick. If that doesn't help - wipe your phone and repartition sd again.
Good luck

I have the same issue for two of my paid apps...this was after i flashed a hero rom and went back to cyanogenmod.Im stuck I tried wiping data through recovery.? help pls

Clear market cache, then fix permissions...Wipe then reflash if that doesn't fix it. Apps in /app-private also get screwed up when switching ROMs, that's why I pull them to /sdcard then reinstall them so they reside in /app.

Open Home and Apps on SD

It keeps force closing on me and I have Open Home 1.5.4. I cant even open it or run it arggg.
Bump? Can anyone please help?
Tried uninstall / reinstall?
If you can get to uninstall, do a safeboot (menu + power).
Thats the first thing I did, I uninstaled and reinstalled 5 times. Restarted the phone then tried installing again. and i did a safe boot too. Idk what else to do, it just wont work.
Have you tried emailing the developer?
I guess worse comes to worse, a wipe... but completely download a new open home, not a backup.
Is it maybe because im running aHome on my G1 already and they conflict with each other?
No, I have aHome on mine too.
If you have apps to SD, there could be something curropting it. If need be, format your ext2 partition and redo it.
Download Paragon Partition Manager Professional Trial.
All my other apps on my sd work fine and i can install new ones to my sd perfectly fine, its just Open Home thats causing the problem, its really strange
Would you happen to know what command i would have to run to delete the Openhome cache and data that has been left there since the last install? I had it once on my phone and it worked perfectly fine maybe taht data is curropt
Nah I don't know a command except maybe go to menu > applications > manage applications > Open Home
Damnnn I need to do it with the commands because i think that the folder it installs itself too still has files in it which are curropt
well the open home data is /data/data/com.betterandroid.openhome2
so rm -rf /data/data/com.betterandroid.openhome2 would get rid of this, you'd need to su first though
Thank youu

market issue? (closed)

Ok, so I installed cyanogen's latest and greatest, but handcent kept force closing.
First, I uninstalled and reinstalled via market, still force closed.
Then, I uninstalled via manage applications. No problems there.
Went to reinstall from the market, but it says its already installed, with the open/uninstall buttons greyed out. Its definitely not on my phone, and I checked the sd card to make sure it wasn't there either. Any ideas?

The best and easiest way is to reinstall a backed up copy of handcent.
Then you can uninstall/reinstall as you wish from the market
or....
You need to first delete the handcent data folder in /data/data
Then delete /data/data/com.android.vending
reboot
You will need to accept the Market TOS again
The first way is the safest and easiest, but #2 will work with no other alternative.
If you have no backup, and don't want to try step 2, PM me with your email and I'll send a copy of Handcent.

Use any option it gives you to uninstall the app, then reinstall it.
Similar issue.
I am having a similar issue.
I installed Toggle Settings (Donut) on my G1 (CM 4.2.5 I'm not using apps2SD) and then decided to uninstall it. Now when I go to the market and my downloads it shows that I have Toggle settings installed. The problem is that I don't and it gives me no options to do anything (open and uninstall are grayed out). Other apps install and uninstall normally with the market updating their status correctly. I don't know what to do to correct this. If you know how to remedy this, please help me.
I apologize if this is an inappropriate place to post this but I serched and this was the closest topic to my problem that I found.
Try finding it in the app-private folder or if its in any of yours apps as a .zip file. If so, back it up and delete it from the phone. see if that resolves the issue. if not try deleting the market cache

Thanks for replying... It's not in any of my other apps and I've tried deleting the market cache (and deleting the market cache and power cycling the phone) and that isn't working. Where is (or should be) the app-private folder? I'm not finding that folder.
I'm starting to feel like my only hope is an update being put out for the app and then hopefully I can download that and go from there.

app-private should be in the same folder as app
Had a similar problem
I wiped my phone and did a frech Cyan 4.2.5 install to help clear a problem with Gmail. I used backup for root users to get all my apps back, but it left a couple out - leaving me in the same situation you guys are in - can't install/uninstall from the market as the buttons are greyed out, but it's not actually on your phone.
i eventually stumbled over a solution of sorts when i reverted back to a themeless 4.2.5 - for me flashing the update again sorted out my market data and allowed me to install the missing apps again. either that, or go into a nandroided backup, extract the apks and manually push them to your current setup - buttons are magically no longer greyed out.
Thanks guys.
Thanks for your guys assistance.
I found another solution that worked. I had one of my coworkers download Astro File browser and then the Toggle settings app. I just backed up his toggle settings with the built in apps manager in Astro and then put his memory card in my phone and restored toggle settings with Astro. Then I went to the market and uninstalled toggle settings through the market and bingo no more ghost of Toggle settings problem. Thanks again for your assistance.

[Q] CM7 market does not show "My Apps" (fixed)

i have this weird problem:
first, i'm running CM7 from a verygreen's SD card
it was running fine but i had some force closes so i resintalled from the begining (reflashed verygreens image), then installed CM7.0.2, installed gapps, and when the market was downloading all of my apps, my system crashed down, and had to reboot.
After that, i havent been able to see my free apps in the "My Apps" tab of the market, i can see my paid apps.
tried to reflash again verygreens image to delete everything, upgraded to n59, still, only see my paid apps. tried restore them with titanium, and they restore, but the "Attach to market" option does not work for me
when i log to the web market, it shows that all my apps (free and paid) as if they were already installed
has anyone else seen this behaviour? any idea?
thanks

Not really, but you might try this... Install and run Appbrain, sync up with it, etc.. then go into the Market app.
When I was messing with ROMs a while back with apps already on my SD ext partition they'd show up to run but not in the Market, but running Appbrain always "attached" them for me. Did it several times.
Using CM7, I was experiencing the same issue, but any new app I downloaded, free or paid, would then show up in the market. I wasn't too concerned, as I only had 5 free apps from the market. Amazon Market, which is where most of my apps are, showed all without an issue.

thanks a lot, this attached all my restored apps (with TitatiumB) to the market again.
missing apps still fail to be re-downloaded, but not a problem since i have a full backup of my apps, just have to restore them and reattach with appbrain

2 Bizarre issues

I have 2 issues that are really starting to tick me off. At first they were just an annoyance, but now... GRRR!!!
1st issue:
Randomly, my D3 will just reboot, and it goes to ROM Manager's Recovery and stays there until I do something. So if this happens at say 3AM, I don't have an alarm clock any more as I get a list to Reboot, Backup/Restore, Update from ZIP, etc.
2nd issue:
Everytime the phone reboots, the same 32 apps are uninstalled. No, not just missing the icon, COMPLETELY uninstalled as reloading the Homescreen DOES NOT load the applications, they are still uninstalled. It also refreezes an app I have to keep unfreezing. Some of the apps are installed to the phone, some are moved off the phone to the media area, some contain no extra data/download.
Things I've tried:
1. Mounting system as RW, reinstalling them all, and rebooting, no luck.
2. Mount system partition, used Permissions Pro to reset all permissions (I don't like some games having to load at boot, I think it's stupid, so I denied them that) and performed step 1 again, no luck.
3. Used ROM Toolbox Pro to fix permissions, and performed step 1 again, no luck.
4. Moved the apps that were in the media area back to the phone, back to the media area, and back to the phone, no luck.
5. Reinstalling and unfreezing and rebooting without doing anything special, no luck.
6. Yelling and screaming at it, as well as threaten it's life, no luck.
7. Begged it to behave, no luck.
Droid 3, Rooted, ROM Manager (with ClockworkMod Recovery), Titanium Backup, a few of the VZW bloatware removed.
I'm willing to do a factory reset, but will I have to re-root? I don't mind losing ClockworkMod Recovery if needed, as I want to safestrap it anyways. I have searched many forums over and over, includling those not for Droid 3 devices, but they all have to do with the app appearing uninstalled, not actually being removed off the phone.
Thanks greatly.
I'm pretty sure you should NOT use rom manager on you d3 to flash anything. Sounds like it might be time to sbf back to stock, reroot and start fresh with safestrap.

Stock ROM.
if you made changes to settings, removed apks, device is not completely stock anymore
you should restore any stock apps you removed, best way to remove unwanted apps is to freeze with titanium backup pro, and unfreeze if needed
if you can not restore all stock app, made changes to settings, or still doesn't work
flash .xml recovery image, just use correct one, for your device and system version
menu/ system settings/about phone/ system version
if 5.6.890.XT862 use .5.6.890.XT862.xml and rsd lite

correct, just install minimoto, or XT861 5.8.25 Stock ROM. Android 2.3.6

Thanks! I am on .906, so I'm downloading that huge 450 MB 1click file, but I have a few questions..
1. Do I have to re-root?
2. Is this going to put me back to .890?
3. I can follow the directions here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1872206) to install and use safe strap (the 4th link) even if I don't plan to dual boot?
4. What's the difference between bootstrapper and SafeStrap, or are they the same?
Thanks very much for you help thus far.

Once you have successfully sbf'd you will have to reinstall the .906 ota. you can accomplish this one of 2 ways

2. Download the update from this thread push it to your EXTERNAL sdcard boot your phone into STOCK recovery pwr+x choose install update

they are similar, with safestap you leave stock rom, custom roms are install differently so you can switch back and forth between reboots
---------- Post added at 02:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:22 PM ----------
also ovelayer doesn't cover, wiping data
if phone bootloops, after flashing sbf, try wiping cache in android recovery
Android system recovery <3a>
with device off
hold X & power, when you see triangle, !, & Andy, press both volume buttons
if phone still bootloops go back to android recovery, and wipe data
or save sometime, and wipe data before flashing sbf
So, I did the whole 1-click-sbf thing, activated the phone, didn't install anything yet, but I did update all the system apps (GMail app, Play Store, etc) and everything was good. I also restored my text messages and call history.
I rooted the phone just fine as well.
Then I started to download and install some apps by using the market not my Titanium Backups.
Moved the ones to the Media Area that didn't automatically move.
Rebooted again, and some apps are uninstalled again, but this time, all of them are ones that were moved to SD card, but not all SD moved apps got uninstalled.
So, what I decided to do, is reinstall the missing apps and keep them on the phone to see what happens. The ones that were uninstalling are now staying installed, however, now some that never uninstalled (that are on the SD) are uninstalling themselves. GRR!
So, the last thing I tried is to now reinstall the uninstalled apps, move them back to the phone, and reboot to see what happens now... I finally got around to finishing up this and after this last reboot, NEW applications that never got uninstalled are now uninstalled.
Time for new phone perhaps?

Since the topic of this thread isn't about TiBu, let's go back to the original topic....
I got tired of the issue and random apps unintalling, so I removed my external MicroSD, did a factory reset (which didn't un-root, therefore, I didn't have to re-root), formatted the internal SD (Media Area) and went through the setup again, I didn't have to activate again though. I updated all system apps, rebooted. All OK. Installed a few apps, reboot, OK. Moved what I could to the SD, and reboot, all OK. Installed about 20 other apps and reboot, all still OK. Moved what I could to SD, and reboot. 1 app uninstalled itself. Completely removed from applications and reboot. All ok, no further apps uninstalled. Installed about 20 more apps, reboot and all is ok, moved over what I could to media area (internal SD) and reboot. 2 apps were uninstalled, both moved to media area and neither one part of the original 32. Uninstalled both from the applications setting and rebooted. 4 more apps uninstalled, none part of the original 32.
I'm at a loss here...
Does TEC from VZW cover this type of issue? I can un-root the phone and they'd be none the wiser.

Moving apps to the "media area" is a kludge at best and I avoid it. Every once in a while I check settings->applications to see if any apps snuck their way there, and I move all of them back to internal.
So I wiped the phone again, repeated the whole 1-click file thingy as last time, seems to be going rather smooth this time around. While poking around, I noticed a built-in (and probably bloatware) application not installed. I tried to google it to see what it does, but nothing is really all that clear. The package is called 'com.verizon.permissions.appdirectedsms' and I found it missing through TiBu. However, SMS works just fine.
Anyone able to advise what the package does, or did? I haven't updated to 906 yet, so perhaps it's something new with that and that's why it's missing? Guess I should update first shouldn't I? Ok, I will. I'll update when it's done.
Many, many thanks to all of you!
what do you mean not installed, if its in the system apps folder its installed
not all system apks show up in apps drawer
and titanium may have a different name for it
