I'm trying to unroot my G1 to sell it, but I can't seem to get fastboot to work. I've read the guide on how to set it up and all that, but my phone isn't showing up in the list of devices when I turn on it bootloader mode. All I'm really trying to do, is to erase the second splash image. If there's another way to erase splash2, can someone tell me?
Did you install the dev driver? Link is in my sig. Does ADB work?
Yes, I have. ADB works just fine, but for some reason I can't find my device on fastboot. Fastboot works on my MT3G though.
Dumb question, but you do have a flashboot enabled SPL on your phone correct?
Well, I'm running the Hard SPL, so I suppose so, but honestly, I'm not sure. When I go into bootloader the screen does have some small text saying fastboot, so I think I'm running a flashboot enabled SPL.
Anyone? Sorry for being hasty, but I plan on selling my phone so I want to get it back to normal as soon as possible.

But what about the splash screen?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=491350
this guide tells me to erase splash2 and after I do that, I can start actually unrooting the phone.
All I need is to get fastboot working, or another way to get rid of the second splash screen.

Did you install a 2nd, custom splash screen? If you didn't then you don't need to worry about it.
When you say 2nd custom flash, you are referring to, for example, cyanogen's right? I assumed that was the 2nd flash since its after the tmobile g1 splash

no, there is a way to install you OWN custom splash2. if you haven't done this you don't need to worry about it.

fastboot flash radio rogersradio.img
fastboot flash recovery rogersrecovery.img
fastboot erase system -w

1) Where is this update.zip? There are so many, im not even sure where to begin looking
2) I cant access my sd card anymore (can only boot into fast boot mode and recovery mode). Is there still a way to write the update.zip to the card, or do I need to find another phone to give me access to the card.
Thanks!

you can put the files on your sdcard by mounting it in your recovery and using adb push
if you have cyanogens recovery, go to console on it and type
Code:
ums_enable
and it will show up on your computer
when your done
Code:
ums_disable
correct me if im wrong, but my phone needs to be rooted in order to use cyanogens recovery right?
Something tells me that my phone didnt root when I was following those instructions (maybe I have that perfect SPL everyone is talking about?)
Anyway so far Ive spent half a day on this, and no luck, and I feel like Im getting ever closer to bricking my phone. It doesnt help that almost all guides here are for the G1 and very little for rogers.
Anyway, is anyone interested in $25 that Ill pay them via paypay/online banking to talk to me through recovery? Private msg me

so my friend recently gave me his old G1, and i did some searching around and discovered that HTC made a dev version. now, being new to android, i have absolutely no clue what the differences are. i want to update my adp1 to froyo, but i get lost when i look up stuff about rooting or whatever. can anyone dumb it down for me or link me to an easy to follow walkthrough? i'm not sure whether or not guides for the g1/dream can be applied to the dev version. please help a noob in need
ADP1 shipped with bootloader 0.95.3000 whereas non-ADP shipped with 0.95.0000. 3000 let you flash unsigned images. That is the difference.
Note that all 0.95 SPLs are obsolete now.

That is the way that most of us rooted our phones. It's reasonable simple, downgrade, type teldnetd, open telnet app, install a recovery, update radio, set boot partitions(if using customMTD)/install danger SPL, and flash CM. If you would like to get as much performance as possible from your phone, I suggest using ezterry's rom, but for that you will need to update the radio and spl through adb and fastboot, which is a little bit more advanced. If you need anything don't be afraid to ask.

Well in that case use this link, since your bootloader is already factory unlocked, you can use the fastboot commands to flash a recovery image. You will need to have adb and fastboot from the android sdk installed on your computer. There are guides in the rom bible on the development forum to help you with that.
EDIT: and try this trick for skipping the initial login so that you can use wifi to sign in if you have to.

unfortunately that trick does not work with the ADP1 =(
i flashed with DREAIMG.nbh and cannot bypass the setup thing; then i discovered this article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
which i completed up until the "installing drivers" step that i don't know how to complete because the computer doesn't even recognize that a device is plugged in, so now my phone thinks it's a G1 and i cannot get past the login screen and i cannot complete the ADB setup with my phone. what do i do?
---------------
EDIT: alright so i bypassed the login by swapping SIMs with a friend who has a 3G plan, but anyhow, when i plug it into my comp, i don't get an option to "Install drivers from my pc" according to the guide i referenced earlier in this post....
Hi all, total newb here. (Sorry I know you probably hate these kinds of threads).
I apologize in advanced if this is a very simple case / has been discussed in the forums.
I've literally read everything I can in regards to this topic but being such a total newbie at this, I'm still not 100% sure if I got this right.
So basically my phone is XT1095 - which I didn't root or unlock boatlader (simply because I don't know why), that suddenly got into a boot loop.
So on that AP Fastboot screen.
So all options (including normal powerup, recovery and factory reset) produces
'failed to validate system image.
boot up failed'.
What should I do at this point? I've read on jcase's thread that this is a simple matter of "easily fixed by flashing proper boot.img".
Where can I find the "stock boot.img"?
I know graffixnyc has KXE21.187-42 files on his website which can be flashed. Is it pre-rooted though?
Or can I just easily use bhp090808's Multi Tool to fix this?
Can it be used while the phone is still in this bricked / bootlooped condition?
Honestly I dont mind being rooted if it means getting my phone fix. But if I can get it done without rooting it then it would be 'great' since if I fail in any way I won't void my warranty.
Sorry for asking a lot of things. As you can notice, I'm totally new at this. I've successfully rooted and install a custom ROM once in my old S3 but it was only because there was a thorough step to step process.
Again, thanks in advance and I really appreciate anyone's help
Cheers.

I doesn't make sense to void warranty to try to fix a problem that is covered under warranty. Maybe your emmc is defective or something like that, don't make matters worse.... You unlock your device when you have verified that everything is working, not when things start failing
I am under warranty but I am currently overseas so sending the phone and process the return is a bit of a hassle. So 'other' options is to do a local repair outside warranty here but that costs a bit.
So if I can fix it myself with a simple procedure then it might be the best way.
I'm having the same issue as well if anyone has figured out how to fix this I would be extremely grateful. I am still under warranty, but I'm nervous they will send me a replacement in worse shape than my current device.
My pure edition was stuck at the splash screen and I didn't previously unlock my bootloader. I also didn't have USB debugging checked so I couldn't find my phone using ADB. Unlocking a pure edition bootloader DOES NOT VOID warranty!!! So I unlocked my bootloader and flashed the factory files and restored the use of my phone. I then updated to lollipop, rooted my phone and checked USB debugging. That way I have full control of my phone and can fix it myself if something comes up. There is the thread saying the warranty won't be void after unlock.

same here. anybody solved the issue? can we recover through fastboot? anything we can try?
this happend after trying to root the device (step 7 in multi-too to be specific
You should be able to recover via fastboot if you have the factory image, there are some floating around here.
If it's an official one you don't even need to unlock your phone because the image is signed by Moto.
Here is a link to an official guide on how to flash.

Stock recovery or TWRP?
Are you looking to undo what you did without having to do a complete wipe, or are you open to more drastic solutions? Because you can always run the toolkit to reset to complete stock by flashing the stock images over your current system. But that would of course perform a complete wipe.

I actually used this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development/tool-moto-x-pure-edition-recovery-t2897819 when I was messed around, but I would imagine either would work. When I needed to return to unrooted stock, I believe that toolkit returned me to 4.4.4 unrooted stock, then I just ran the 5.0 OTA once the phone booted up.
The toolkit you referenced is the one I used to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, and root my phone. As long as you can get to recovery or fastboot, either toolkit should work to return you to stock. BUT I caution you, I have a pure edition, and these toolkits were made for the pure edition. If you do not have a pure edition, you'll want to read the disclaimers/instructions/other posts to make sure it will work on your phone.
Okay so this escalated quickly.
So here I am being my dumb self , I try to flash TWRP. That goes fine and then I try to wipe my data. After that I reboot it and as its turning on it foes black on the boot animation. and now I cant even get into freaking recovery mode. I dont know what I did but im pretty sure I messed up bad. I need some serious help now and anything is appreciated.

Thanks for the link though, if it does magically boot into the bootloader then i'll know what to do at least.
Edit: Okay so theres the charging animation, so thats a start, I guess. Still no luck on the bootloader tho.

I agree that Toolkits can make you lazy and not learn how to fix things on your own, but when you need a quick fix and don't have time to figure out what is going wrong, it's always nice to just boot your phone into fastboot or recovery and fix things with a few keystrokes on your computer.
I got it to work guys! Thanks for all the help. It was much appreciated.
Hello. I have unlocked bootloader successfully (it says "unlocked" at screen and also "tampered"). I have all the fastboot/adb software on my windows pc and can communicate with the phone. I flash recovery via fastboot and it is successful...includes a "recovery" option under bootloader options but it just flashes a disclaimer screen and quickly goes back to bootloader screen. Without custom recovery I cannot root this phone which is my goal. I have tried to reflash other recovery images, including cmw and twrp - I believe cmw is on it now but it won't open.
Hoping someone can assist me with this.
Thank you

Reflash whichever recovery you plan to use then remove the battery and put it back in then hold the volume down button and then press and hold the power button at the same time and the phone should then boot to recovery. Make a backup after so you have something to fall back on just in case.

Are you actually holding both buttons down at the same time until the screen turns on? Don't let them go hold them both down until your screen lights up. Then select recovery but if it doesn't work then try below.
Try flashing this version of twrp https://twrp.me/devices/htcdesire510usa32bit.html ... If you're not in the USA I need to know.
Flashing twrp didn't change anything unfortunately. I recently tried re-locking my bootloader and attempted to flash stock images back to the phone but when I press "yes" to the question about voiding the warranty before unlocking the bootloader again...the disclaimer just flashes and the phone won't let it.
Also, I cannot seem to restore it to stock through the menu...nor the bootloader screen.
So now I have "tampered" and "Relocked" banners on top of bootloader screen.
One the upside, the phone itself works fine (I currently only use it for wifi).
Only thing I can think of is I originally flashed a corrupt recovery img (or incompatible version).
Hoping you or someone else has any ideas as to how to get this thing working again. I'd be happy with reverting completly back to stock and starting the process over..

What service provider are you using?
Don't toss the unlock code you got from HTC you're gonna need the very first one you got keep it forever.
I'm using Boost but I think I figured it out. It ended up being a corrupt download of cmw. I actually used an ruu to get back stock and now the whole process went smoothly. Just looking for a rom that fits...got any recommendations in that area?

Funny enough I never made a backup before and constantly have to re-locate stock images due to soft bricking. I now am making backups so as not to go through that again.
I have a question perhaps you could answer -- if I install a rom that doesn't include any additional tweaks such as extended personaliation options in settings (transitions, etc, etc.)..is there a mod I can flash to achieve that?

Funny enough I never made a backup before and constantly have to re-locate stock images due to soft bricking. I now am making backups so as not to go through that again.

For extended personalizing other than developer options, I'd use Xposed.

Not really since everyone has their own tastes but I'd advise you to create a backup in your recovery so you can use it in case something goes wrong. Currently me and a friend are working on CM13/12..

The USA model because myself and rb don't have the EU phone to even test anything on it.. We still have a lot of booting problems right now. I'd say if you wanted to help I'd have to ask what you know about building roms from source? Have you done it before?
P.S: There's already a CM-12.1 available for the EU model although it does have some issues.. You should read about it if you want to try it..

It's pretty cool and fun once you get the hang of making things and seeing them function right, and the other thing is... You'll need a pretty decent computer to compile/build with and it'll need to have at least 4GB ram (more is better) and about 50 to 100 GB hard drive space for building your rom plus the CM source code needs to be on your system too...

Well how fast is your internet? By the way.. I'm using a Linux operating system... What are you using? It cannot be done on Windows unless you use a VM.
Hey, I also faced this problem but I find the solution and successfully flash twrp

Thank you
