Lg Ks20 Usb Otg?

With this whole driver controversy and HTC not paying for Qualcomm drivers, I was wondering if USB OTG was left out on the Kaiser but not on the KS20. Can any KS20 owner please check if USB OTG works on
the KS20. I really miss not having the ability to directly transfer files from my flash drive to the phone.

P.S. Checking the KS20 rom dump, there is a file named msm7200otg.dll that is NOT on the Kaiser. This could get interesting.

Unlike graphics, I believe USB OTG would require different hardware to work. The Kaiser would have to have the hardware necessary to supply a certain amount of power to the USB port, as well as the ability to be a USB host. I would not get your hopes up.

AFAIK the port isnt capable of USB hosting. So its a no go.

I know, thet you can use KS20 like USB-Stick.
But i dont think it have one USB-Host.
If you want, you can find KS20 Service Manuals (was here some were) and look there, if it is possible with this hardware.

Well, I just got hold of a KS20 service manual and I found some relevant information about the USB functions of the KS20.
Interpret these as you want:
Page 28 of the service manual: USB-OTG transceiver for full-speed (12 Mb/s) and low-speed (1.5 Mb/s) interfacing of the MSM device to
computers as a USB peripheral, or connecting the MSM device to other peripherals
-I wonder what other peripherals are?
Page 35: USB OTG core supports both slave and limited host functionality.
-I believe here's our answer!
Ok, so at least we now know that USB OTG can be implemented. However, I have absolutely no idea how, or if, we can get this to work on the Kaiser.
Some food for thought.

I have the LG KS20 for 3 weeks now and am happy so far with all its functions working flawlessly. As usual with Windwos Mobile it needs Softresets from time to time. Annoying is the fact that it doesn`t show the SDmicro card or its content unless you perform a soft reset - every time !?
USB HOST function:
it is possible to use the LG KS20 in that way ONLY: it will allow you just to exchange data with/from the inserted SDmicro card in the phone - nothing else !
So definetely no full USB Host support here.

You may not know how useful USB host is. You can use USB stick (up to 32GB), USB keyboard, USB mouse.
If it had USB host, I'd buy it for sure (wifi only).

I'd guess that its not going to ever have the capability without hacking. I don't think any device has that at the moment.
I guess what gets hacked depends on what the hackers think is worth doing, and I can see that USB host would be an especailly awesome thing for the Tab so hopefully it will get some interest.
If its a game breaker, you may well be disappoited for a long while tho. This kind of hacking doesn't happen over night.

This is SO true. I remember people trying for years to hack USB host mode in to Nokia's Linux Tablets: the N770 and such. I wonder: Did they ever manage to do it?

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong (as I don't have the device in question) but doesn't the Nokia N8/E7 support just that? I seem to remember a video demonstration of the N8 supporting an USB memory stick.
Also, the Tab will have a dock that has a keyboard, so it's not totally impossible for it to have USB host capabilities.

I don't know about the N8, sadly I just don't have much interest in that part of the mobile space. However, some googling seems to indicate that it is possible (news articles say so) but I don't know if its naitive or needs hacking.
As for the keyboard and stuff, thats a good point. I can't see them using a non-usb standard for that, so it must just be the proprietary connector that makes the difference. In that case, all we should need is a Tab-USB connector, and a few drivers. That would really give the tab some muscle.
In general can mobile devices support the USB min-harddrives ? The ones that power from the port ? If thats possible then the tab will kick serious ass. 250 gigs in your pocket for cheaper than a microSD card.

I'm not really a fan of Nokia's products either, although they USED to make great products they haven't done so in awhile. And I *hate* Symbian. Anyways, at least the N8 DOES have some USB Host capabilities:

Well if they are going to officially make an adapter then maybe we are going to get USB Host... I can't see how you could transfer things off a digicam without the Tab hosting it as a drive.
Well... This looks pretty awesome then.

But they *CAN* cripple the functionality to just mass-storage devices or perhaps just cameras, like Apple did with their USB Camera connection kit, or whatever it was called.
Let's just hope that Samsung doesn't go that route.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I'm also wondering about usb host (or at least OTG) on the Tab (as I'm considering buying on to port Meego to).
Could someone who has the keyboard doc post the dmesg output once it's been plugged in please?
From some dmesg output I saw elsewhere (but not with the keyboard dock), it appears that the USB chipset is an OTG version, and seeing it act in host mode with the keyboard doc plugged in would be a nice confirmation.

OK, I just ordered a keyboard dock and I'll have a look. I'll post a dmesg output and open it to see if the PCB is marked in any way.
According to the pinout (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9925838) there seems to be no other way for data to flow apart from USB.
So one of the following must (should) be true:
1. Samsung is reusing the pins for a proprietary protocol -probably reconfiguring the device by pulling up or down other pins.
2. The device is capable of host/OTG mode but it is probably unpowered and it probably needs a pin pull-up/pull-down to enable.
3. The keyboard is using unidentified pins, and the USB pins are used simply for the PC connection and power.
Does anyone know if the keyboard acts as a proper dock? i.e. when you connect it to the pc does it work at the same time as (say) KIES or drive mount?

Just a quick update, the keyboard was just shipped, and I should have it by Tuesday.

USB host
This is a good concept. I have an Archos 70 and a Galaxy tab. Archos has a micro usb port with which I connected my USB host adapter and the key board and mouse works . Flash drive and router dongle says more power required. So I am looking for a powered USB connector for this.
Unfortunately, Galaxy tab has different cable and I dont know if I can find a host cable for this. Any suggestion?

and tried to ground pin 13 to put the tab in host mode last night... needless to say since I'm typing this on my computer... epic fail. However, I'm curious if anyone else has had any success with this.
I'm not too much of a fan of buying something to destroy... but if I have to disassemble a dock to get the pinout for monitor mode... suck!

I've been wondering if our device could act as an USB host. It would be good to experiment with that feature, adding new drivers to the kernel, and using external devices like a printer, or an usb drive. Is it possible?
I've read some forums, I've seen that on Motorola Droid and ZTE Blade, that they have attached an usb keyboard, or a usb flash drive. These devices did not have a power supply on the port, they solved it externally.
So, the big question is can we enable the host mode on the USB somehow?

I've heard this has to be supported by the processor, and as far as I know the MSM7227 does not support the USB-host function. :/

I found this in the service manual of our phone So it's not impossible - the MSM7227 supports the host mode by hardware - the question is how do we get use of this?

zte blade has MSM7227 -> so if they got it workin ... maybe we can use their drivers?

USB host is the 'boss' device so to speak. It gives commands to its connected devices (USB Slaves) So, when your phone is connected to computer, the PC is Host where the phone is a slave. So using USB host on a phone/tablet, means you can connect a manner of devices such as keyboards, mice, flash drives and such. Hope that answers your question

USB Ethernet adapter and driver for Note

Hi,
i would really need a USB Ethernet adapter for my Galaxy Note. I searched forums and all i found was for tablets. I also noticed several times that people were talking that you can build the driver for specific device from official driver. If i understand right i could buy some USB Ethernet adapter and then build it's driver for galaxy note? Or not? Or is there maybe some "universal" driver already made?
I would be really thankful if someone explained this a little more.

The drivers are included in the linux kernel of android, so the driver support is directly linked to the version of the kernel used on your device.
A small search gave me a result: look for USB to RJ45 Ethernet Adapter on amazon (you'll need a USB - micro usb adaptater tho.

So if i understand there are drivers already in kernel? Because i'm almost sure i red before that there are no drivers in kernel so this doesn't work out of the box.
I have OTG adapter so this is not problem. I'll try and buy some adapter and we will see if this will work. I have hydra-core kernel on stock rom.

Sadly you'll have to try by yourself, but apparently, the one i found on amazon (around 16£) works on android 3.1+ devices.

here is my unhelpful comment:
I have one of the little buggers (see attached image) boght on eBay:
Search for "USB to LAN RJ45 Network"
It works under Linux and identifies itself as:
"Davicom DM9601 USB Ethernet" and uses the Linux-Kernel-Module dm9601 (as it seems).
(NOTE: One strange thing: The newly bought device uses a MAC address, that was registered to an colleague on our network here. So it spoofs the address?!?!)
Combined with the Host-USB-Adater (OTG) it can be connected to the N7000 - BUT:
A) The LED lights up and blinks to show the trafic on the line
B) Nothing happens on the screen
C) In Elixir it shows up as

Vendor-ID: 4070
I Get no Menu to configure the wired connection.
So I guess there is no Driver.
I Used Hydracore v7 and Thor Kernel 0.26. (which is WAAAY slower then hydracore)

This looks an interesting idea, wonder is its possible to to have PoE as well, disconnecting network access just to charge would be pretty annoying otherwise.

This is my first thread I've ever created, so don't be too harsh on me
As far as I know, the new Android 10 includes a so called "desktop mode". So you can connect a compatible device via USB to an external screen. I think thats pretty cool and samsung already implemented this idea from the S8 upwards with Samsung Dex.
I understand that this needs USB 3.1, but the Motorola G7 Plus only has USB 2.0!
According to the datasheet of the build-in Snapdragon 636 processor, it does support USB 3.1!
So here comes the question: Is it possible to "activate" the required functionality in order to use the desktop mode?
So like changing a few things inside the root files (Like you can activate for example OTG)?
If not, is the hardware build that way, that it just doesn't have the data-lines?
And also, if all of that doesn't work, you surely saw such USB 2.0 to HDMI adapter, which do work on older computers, but do they might work with Android 10 connected to otg?
It would be really cool if something of that might work.

Unfortunately this device does not support MHL so usb to HDMI dongles do not work. Apparently moto hasn't supported MHL for some time .

Thanks for your answer. But I knew that before. I am trying to finde some "workarounds" for this, because I do really like this phone!

Found a solution
So, after a bit of research, I found a solution to add external screens to any OTG compatible Android phone!
There are so called "DisplayLink adapters" and those seem to be compatible with any Android phone that supports OTG.
After installing the official app "DisplayLink Presenter", you should be able to get everything working.
I din't tested it yet, but I hope that this will help someone in the future.
