Hi there,
anyone tested "Talkonaut" yet?
It's a VOIP Client which allows you to call your googletalk contacts via voip.
Besides that, you can integrate your existing sip accounts and make voip calls just like in sipdroid.
Just discovered it in the market and made a few tests.
I called a friend over googletalk and he can hear me clearly but unfortunately I can't hear him.
I don't know if it's the program or a wrong setting. I'm able to call the same friend with the windows gtalk client without any problems.
Then, I tried to connect to my gizmo5 account, it kinda works sometimes but very choppy. Sipdroid is better suited for this purpose.
It still seems to be in development, perhaps it gets better in the future
What would be awesome, is if there was a way to use my Google voice account with my g1 but using data and not voice hehe.

Here is a question (let me know if this is a re-post):
There is a way to make free calls in the US using Sipdroid full, Gizmo5 and GV (if you have a google voice account) per this guide:
http://iiordanov.blogspot.com/2009/07/sipdroid-gv-guava.html
This works great when I use GV to call any U.S. number. I decided to try to add Skype Lite to the mix. I set up GV to control any outgoing call in hope that the call that Skype out calls will be intercepted by GV and then routed through Gizmo5 to Sipdroid. I used Skype lite to call my home number (I have Skypeout unlimited world) and even though I got the call back through Sipdroid and heard the ringing tune in my G1, My home phone never rang.
What did I do wrong?
Any change this can work?
Why would you want to use skype? Its just a proprietary mess. You can simply use sipdroid straight up with any generic sip account.

I am using Skype for several years at home. I have unlimited world account for international calls, I have phone adapters at home that work with Skype and an impatient wife that would kill me if I introduce another solutions. All my friends using Skype to communicate. I don't want to have duplicate services or change my life.

Thats too bad. Skype, being proprietary, does not and will not ever dominate the voip market -- you're going to have to ditch it eventually. It's easier to do it now rather than wait until you have no choice.
Hi all,
VOIP'ing with Android...is this still possible/worthwhile now Skype is blocking Fring?
Why / how?
All comments more than welcome!
i use sipdroid with my google voice/gizmo number
i think skype gives you the number and server info you can put into sipdroid doesnt it?
Nimbuzz works fine with Skype over WiFi, 3G/E (at least in the Netherlands) is slow.. as far as I see, best Skype solution right now..

Is it still possible to get a gizmo number? if so how?
I need VOIP so i can get rid of my blackberry and be able to receive calls in low signal areas that have wifi (ie my HOUSE)
I'm tired of carrying 2 phones to make sure i don't miss calls thanks to the UMA feature on the BB.
lets all file a complain to skype to extend skype rollout to all android devices regardless of carrier (lucky americans on verizon, damn you )
isn't there a way for videocall with skype?

i dont believe so, i signed up for it ages ago when i had my nokia and had forgotten about it, luckily i had it set up before google locked it down, hopefully they'll open it back up eventually
Personally I use SIPDROID with www.voipcheap.com (very very good rates a free call plans). If you want a good selection of DID numbers try www.localphone.com
SIPDROID does some sort of video call, if I recall correctly it is a little strange their method, never used it myself, but there is a demo on their website.
Regards

Just a heads up... new version is out on the market... fully supports inbound and outbound calling VIA Google Voice... pretty slick, basically (TMo) wifi calling without using minutes...
Add the [APP] flag to the title, yo. Good stuff otherwise.

Wait so does this allow real wi-fi calling (absolutely no minutes used) and it workes perfectly with google voice? How much is it by the way?

Correct, perfect VOIP wifi calling, its a free app, dl it from the market and create a new account, log in with your google voice credentials... simple.
Can someone please tell me how to use sipdroid? I downloaded it and made a pbxes.org account (with google voice) but when I call on wifi it says call could not be connected and fails. Also can you do 3g voip calling with att because it wont even register with pbxes.org on 3G for some reason for me.

Download SIPdroid
Create new account using Google Voice
Make sure you are connected to a good wifi connection
Make sure the little light in the notification bar is green.
Make phone call
Ok I got it to work, the problem was actually that the phone used a different gvoice account.
What about my question on 3G?

Wow... awesome. Thanks so much!
Just a heads-up; I had to recreate the pbxes account that I already had in order to add google voice.
I can't find Google Voice...I find that odd. Am I misiing something?
Nah man I can't find it either I think hopefully theyll try to make an optimized version, regardless, I'm a little upset

If you try to install it via market.android.com, it says it's an invalid device.
not compatible yet. Should have an update soon. I have found other apps like logmin ignition don't work either. Sure updates will roll out soon
anyone have an idea on timing for google voice? really would love to be able to make a voice call and get sms.
google translate isn't compatible either...not sure why. seems like it should be able to run the phone version just fine.
I suspect that voice calls will not work even when/if we get google voice app in here. Unless google decides to push gtalk direct dialing like on the browser gmail.

I don't think they'll let you make calls from the xoom or any tablet, I think the most they'll do is to let us send text messages over the xoom, just because this is a tablet not a phone, but then you never know...
you already can with skype
Something I thought about was just using the browser to access the google voice webpage, which you can use to text message as well. It does work better when you change the browser userstring to desktop instead of android.
i tried a little while ago to run the latest version and got fc right off the bat. It may be as simple as a slight APK mod. Ill try a few things and report back.
Did you get it working
By using Fring VoIP, SIPGate, and Google Voice I can make VoIP calls with my Xoom. Once you set up Fring with SIPGate, add your SIPGate number to GV. Go to the GV website on your Xoom, lookup a contact can call. It will forward the call to your SIPGate number and ring on the Xoom through Fring. Works great.
Still waiting for an official GV app though.
I've been in touch with team at Google. At first, I was given the following response:
Thanks for your note. At this time, Google Voice is not compatible with the Motorola Xoom, because the Xoom doesn't have the required telephone features.

After replying that I didn't exactly need the telephone features, but rather the SMS and voicemail checking features, I got this back:
At this time, it's not possible to use the Google Voice app on the Xoom, but I will definitely share your feedback with the Google Voice team.

doesn't csipsimple use honeycombs native phone capabilities? If so why can't GV?
Lacking that what about after the 4g upgrade? Will it not have a radio then technically?
I believe the reason there isn't telephone capabilities is that Google isn't interested in creating a full-fledged VoIP solution just yet. You can see they're testing the waters with the VoIP calling in Gmail, but if they were truly dedicated to the concept, they would have added VoIP capabilities to the standard Android app or released SIP information. After all, Gingerbread and the Nexus S have the capabilities to run something like that.

This is a deal breaker for me on the xoom/Honeycomb. iPad has official GVoice app that does sms, missed calls, & voicemail and it has the talkatone app that does GVoice voip calls. You can put away your phone while using your tablet and not miss anything.
If your GV number is set to ring gmail/gtalk will a the gtalk app ring on a xoom?

Instead of Fring I am now using SIPDroid and it works great. Even tethering from my Incredible.
It looks like I'm going to have to put off the Xoom until more features are enabled.

I'm sure google has some clueless employees too, and given that they developed a GV app for the iPad, which also lacks telephone functionality, I'm betting that that's all this is....one of Google's few clueless.

Does anyone know how to make a phone call with Google Voice on the Nook? I open up the Phone app, Dial the number and on top it says "Dialing with Google Voice" then I get a error message saying "Mobile Network Not Available" (BTW GV is free for yet another year!) I assume the Nook / Android software is looking for a cellular data network that doesn't exist. Is it possible to make it use WIFI???
I'm sorry if this question has been asked and answered in different forums but I haven't found it anywhere.
Thank you.
well, to answer a simple way...there is no microphone so even if you get it working for voice, you can listen not talk.
the text messaging side works well for me though.
I think the only way is to use a bluetooth microphone / headset
I haven't tried anyway ...

I think you forgot about Bluetooth...But, that still doesn't answer the question on how do you make it make phone calls. I want to make calls with Google Voice just like I do when I go to the website on my desktop. If anyone knows how please share!
Can't do it via the app - it's simply not enabled for SIP calls. It always uses the cellular voice connectivity, even if you tap the "Use Google Voice" option on the prompt.
Have you tried the mobile web interface via the Browser though?
If you were to use bluetooth and do a google voice call in to viop setup that might ring your nook gingerbread has settings to enter a sip account. Id try it up gizmo is no more and dont really need to set up a pbx or whatever the other way to do it
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Try sipdroid if stock GB voip settings don't work. Use the GV call back app to get past dialing out fees. Sipgate may still be free.
Use a sipgate account and google voice callback to make calls when i roam on my evo. Not sure if itll work on nook. ill give it a shot if i can find a bluetooth headset to use
Any word on this working? I have been trying allot of things tonight to get this to work in some way
nope even with bluetooth headset working, it does not have a way of receiving the voice signals and channeling it so no phone calls (yet)

the point is regardless on making or receiving phone calls - your voice won't be transferred - so all you do is listen

Nope...remembered and tossed to the side...no one has a working bluetooth with mic in yet. The nook was never intended for recording at all(which is still stupid in my opinion...voice notes in books would be a KICK ASS feature). Once there is a working mic in on bluetooth, then GV will be the bees knees.

Absolutely. I do it all the time using Google Voice and a WiFi connection. Note that I am running Cyanogenmod from an microSD card at the time. Haven't tried it directly using the rooted nook software.
I use Google Voice for Nookie texting. I do say Bluetooth voice calls over wifi would be slick.

worked fine for me on rooted stock, also.
This is the only way that I have found to currently use Google Voice. I have a grandfathered faves plan with Tmo and have set my Google number as a fave. I can dial any number out from Google Voice, which rings my cell phone. I answer the cell and Google rings the other number, using my cell phone. I can make these calls from the NC, using Dolphin browser. They connect and are very clear. No success using NC browser. Also, no used minutes on my cell phone plan!
