Who makes those decisions? The ppc4100 is becoming more popular everyday and its verry similar to what xda phones. Windows mobile is generic so it works the same way on the xda as it would on the ppc4100. there is already a section for the ppc 4100 in the ftp site so y not make it official?
Who do I convince? Lets make it happen!!!
you ppl might not be interrested but there are thousands out there with that silly phone itching to mess with it.
brings more members. isnt that good for this site?
more fame!!!
yay for fame..
i think its a grate ida lets do that.
I have no problems if the administrators create a section for the PPC4100 (I have a friend who would love to see that happen), but this forums are for XDA, MDA, Qtek, iMATE, etc devices, also known as (HTC Devices) HTC is the manufacturer of such devices, wich also are somewhat more popular in general.
QUOTE FROM XDA-DEVELOPERS.COM FRONT PAGE:
"The only two things not wrong about the name of this site are the dash and the dot. This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a secretive firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya' and 'Blue Angel', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56 and many, many other names.
Then there's the 'developers' part: we noticed a profound lack of developer information for these devices. Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world.
But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
And then finally there's the 'com' part of our name: we're not very commercial: no banner-ads, no pop-ups and we're not selling anything. The entire site is supported by private donations from the community that uses it. You are encouraged to make a donation if the site is useful to you.
So in short: never mind this site's name. No matter who you are or what brand-name is printed on your phone: if it looks like one of these, this site is for you. "
yay, me too.
I've been messing around with XDA-tools and the PPC4100. I'd greatly appreciate the chance to get help from more experienced people.
audiovox 4100 has an extented rom ?
the 4100 has 2 flash id's first can be the main one used as an operating sys. thesecond would probably be called the " exteded rom " the flash id can be found in the diagnostics menu. pda was not built by audiovox as there is another version of this pda that is acailable at http://www.anextek.com i dont know how it is developed by anymore it may verry well be part of the xda family.
so far we know that the pda copies the flashes image to pda in 8 parts. it copies it to the pda first to the extended rom then is extracted to the main rom. i can be corrected if anyone know s otherwise. i will list the addresses tha the rom is devided into jsut incase anyone needs them as soon as i flash my next pda with the update available.
windows is made to be generic. i dont see y it should exclude the 4100. lets make it part of the family. if u hagve a 4100 join us in testing the unit and expanding.
as far as modifications i have modified the cradle to charge the battary of the pda using one wire i will post a photo as soon as i can.
my next step is to flash win mobile 2003 ont the 4100 but taking extra precausions on this one so it might take a while
if u hold down the rocker while resetting u will be able to get into the boot strap menu. as soon as you are there u have may shoices.
- press on bootloader. will boot to write rom from sd card
- press on format tools ( this will allow you to format the pda ram ) if internal storage is missing this will fix it.
- press o os to boot normaly.
- shift the rocker upwards u will go into the hardware test mode.
I agree that 4100 users should unite and help eachother... 8)
But just to clarify, even though Windows Mobile is made to be generic, there are some specifics built in by manufacturers, plus there are some hardware differences, even between HTC devices, that's why you have not seen Windows Mobile 5.0 on other devices except the Himalaya.
Cheers and hava a great weekend!!!

Hello faramisimo,
plz can you share this flash for PCC 4100
thanks
u can find the flash files in xda's ftp site.
for ppc4100
here is how u can make your cradel charge your pda powered by usb
very simple, only one wire.
go there to vote weather or not u want to see the 4100 on this site.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22915
Would luv some expert developr help w/ audiovox ppc 4100 ROM
Let me throw my two cents in as well. As a phone or a PDA, the 4100 has a lot to be desired. That being said, it sure would be nice to be able to install the OS that I want. nemo and faramisimo have made great progress, but I'm sure they could use a bit of help. Any XDA help would be greatly appreciated!
Don't forget to read the "Announcement" ROM images will no longer be hosted.
Since a lot of people don't pay attention to the announcement here is a reminder....
For those of you, who are still hoping that a cooked WM6 will be available to download from this site you can stop hoping now Your "favorite" Cooks won't be able to post any ROM, hosted by this site, doens't matter if it's WM5 or WM6.

Yes, I am. Because some peeps and probably you too, have already announced that they will not use any ROM from any site. They will only use the ROM from the "Master Cook" here.
Do you want to RLOL?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1135447&postcount=13
You can stop hoping and praying now because you won't get any WM6 update for the Wizard or any older model from HTC. Most people already know that, but you probably still hoping I have no problem of using ROM from any Cook from any site. What would you do now? Keep on using the old ROM or "eat" your words and start to use the ROM from the so called "Non-Master Cook"?

Don't expect an official update. This is the reply I received from HTC:
Thank you for your enquiry concerning the HTC P3600 mobile device.
Unfortunately we will not upgrade our current devices to include the Mobile 6 software.? However, there will be new devices out which will include the software.
Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/cs_by_phone.html

There's the whole reason M$ has made the request....so OEM's can sell new devices instead of providing upgrades to existing devices. It's all in how much profit can they make from those of us that like the latest and greatest.

M$'s position is truely sad. Guess it is time to look for a phone that will run a version of Linux...
--M
By requesting to remove all roms from this site, M$ is basically killing this forum. People come here to test new updated roms on their phones. Now this really sucks. Now, is it possible to host roms elsewhere?
I'm Pissed
I guess I'll switch to a freakin symbian phone or ahh yes an IPHONE. This kind of crap really reminds me why I can't stand Microsoft! They are not just happy with getting our money.
we knew from the very start about MS totalitarian rule, of course we can work something out, like "we worked"(esp. the great ROM cookers) to make better, faster, and more stable ROMs than MS has ever made, maybe someone is already working out a plan, working around the "system", so that the whole forum will still be alive
I think the cooks must deside for themselves... if they want to place the roms elsewhere; there is no real issue... if they don't, I think it is going to be a less interesting board, the xda-developers, unfortunatelly.
But I think mickey$oft will hunt down every place where the roms reside, so....
I've never really liked Microsoft..*the only reason I don't run Linux is because my wife doesn't know much about it and we only have 1 computer now*..but it was bound to happen sooner or later. With things like people bricking the phones and the whole monopoly that Microsoft has. The only thing I hate is that Faria had upgrades planned for the 3.3.
But texasaggie, I couldn't bring myself to get an iphone. It cost too much for too little. I've just waiting around until a ppc starts to run Linux.

I guess torrents is the way to go. Since new roms comes very quickly and people would be more interested in the newest ones, torrents should able to stay alive until the next rom release.
M$ can go F themselves. BT everything, rapidshare, yousendit, megaupload or host it in some Cayman Island server. [email protected]@rds each & every one of the corporations.
one of the best sites no the net
hands down, you guys helped me through thick and thin so to all of you, noobs and developers alike, thanks for saving my nuts!!
Maybe M$ is just mad vista boched out
There are many other ways to post the roms
Hope the cooks won't have to waste too much time playing hiding games instead of doing important work
i just downloaded all of them...lol little over 7GB worth!
Harsh words
Ok, I'm probably gonna get killed for saying something like this, but can't you guys give Microsoft a break?
First off, without Microsoft, computers wouldn't be where they are today, the internet wouldn't be as big as it is today and your Wizards wouldn't be around. Sure, maybe some other companies would have filled the void and developed their own programs and things, but it's hard for me to imagine the way Microsoft has gone about developing programs and then marketing them to every man and his dog being replicated by anyone else with the same degree of success.
There are other devices and mobile operating systems out there already. But how many of them can do all the things that a Windows Mobile device can? And how many of them do it as well as a Windows Mobile device?
We can shout at Microsoft all we like, and rip into them forever about wanting to get more money from us for buying new devices. But who really has control over their software? Can we download O2 ROMs direct from Microsoft? Do T-Mobile update their phones via Windows Update like Microsoft update Vista, XP, etc?
AKU's have been released to mobile operators, and new opearting systems (WM6) have been passed over too. It is up to the operators to adapt the software and release it to us, it's customers, or at the very least the device manufacturers.
Until ALL Windows Mobile devices get a lot more memory, and can support a whole host of drivers (that they'll never use but have to to be there to cover other devices), updated ROMs will only come from operators or handset makers. Microsoft provide them with the updates, and then go back to working on the next lot of updates or new system.
So maybe Microsoft is at fault for removing ROMs from sites like this. But the real fault, and something they should definitely look into, is the fact that the people who are able and willing to tweak and change their system to suit the hardware, aren't the people they're giving the software to.
I don't like it any more than you guys do. I've only been using the site for the last couple of months, and that's been a time of a lot of activity with all the excitement of WM6 ROMs popping up and also AKU3.3 ROMs released etc. I would love the site to stay open, so that the brilliant "cooks" in this community could continue their work and support us for free, while the people we paid just sit their doing nothing with Microsoft's hard work in updating the software. But I can also understand where they're coming from, and simply ask that you take a more critical view of the people most of us probably got our phones from (operators like O2, T-Mobile, Cingular etc.) before having a go at the people that provided us with fantastic, if slightly flawed, software that is still better than everything else that's out there.
If it wasn't, why would we still be using it?
P.S. Just give me time to my girlfriend how much I love her before you torture me to death?
Basically taking down the ROMs from this site means moving the whole development projects to the "underground"!
There will be always a site to download the ROMs, only the legal aspcet will change and become (even more) questionable.
Sad, but true
See you again on some of the other sites...
Cheers,
Jago

I for one have signed up!
Sorry Mods and Admins, if i m postin' this in a wrong place.
Hi y'all developers, while typin' my last post, i realized that i have 100+ posts, and i have become a senior member now. So felt like makin' a thread for testimonials.
I came across xda-developers, last year. I wuz usin' Blue Angel that time, i wuz attemptin' to update my ROM, with the latest one, on the vendor's website. Somethin' went wrong, and my phone got stuck at a grey screen with USB written on it. I tried everything, that a normal user would do. Tried soft-reset, hard-reset, removed battery, nothin' worked. I thought, that would be the end of it, b'cuz warranty wasn't valid as this phone was officialy not available here, that time.
Then i searched web, and got results in this website, followed wiki, learnt about BootLoader mode, killed the required processes in the task manager & wuz able to do the update succesfully. Then there wuz no end to it, flashed so many ROMs, enjoyed WM6 on a phone runnin' WM3. Never imagined that Had this community not been there, my phone would have been nothin' more than a brick.
Here, we have so many personalized applications to share, customized ROMs removing the shortcomings of original ones, shipped with the device. Moreover, we have 'Offline' to discuss about different other topics, to share jokes, incidents and to get suggestions and reviews on the new things, in the market.
Thanks to all the Developers, Moderators & the Administrators(of course), for this lovely community.
People who feel, if they got any help from this forum, plz post your testimonials here.
UNITED WE STAND, Cheers..
i was totally into nokias and never thought of switching brands.
just about when pocket pcs used to be so bulky- i never thought i needed such a device although it offered much more than nokias.
then came our good ol' magician. when i was on a trip to Dubai i saw this beautiful ppc which was smaller but much higher in specs as compared to the xda IIs
i immediately got it then and there (O2 xda mini).
then one day (when i didn't know about this site) i flashed a wrong rom and my mini showed just USB v1.1. i started searching the www and finally reached this site. i not only got a rom but also wonderful apps which have really enhanced my ppc experience.
but i now feel so unlucky cos' i got a magician. we can not flash wm5 or 6 therefore
no touchflo...no many good things! (if anybody has "good things" pls tell me)
i've helped a number of noobs here who always got a "regional" error when reflashing (of course ...the developers and senior members feel sick repeating it time and again to the new ppl)
i am thinking of getting a new device now but all devices of my choice have a major disadvantage which i would like to list.(point me out if i am wrong):-
1. HTC Touch (slow processor, no dedicated 2.5mm audio jack..and the supplied earphones suck!)
2. HTC TyTN II (HTC is so very reluctant in providing the display drivers..this device is rendered way slower than a magician)
3. HTC Touch Cruise (same case as with tytn II, feels much bigger than touch)
and then windows mobile 7 is on its way and i've come across some screenshots too.
and i seriously doubt the existing devices will be able to be upgraded to wm7. its got some features like dual touch sensitivity which contribute to this doubt.correct me if i am wrong pls. (but very frankly....i have full faith in the developers here who have insanely sharp minds)
and lastly - i have not yet donated any amount till date but i am going to begin soon as i have full plans to get a paypal acount. i understand that the developers here have to sacrifice their hell lot of time to write awesome codes and then to improve them, remove flaws and make them compatible for as many devices as possible.
and then this is a nice thread (thanks to rohit!) ...pls share your experiences -it takes only a minute or two (but it took me more than 15 minites---i am a bit SLOW!!)
thanks a lot
PEACE!!
i got help with my htc wizard. i was getting tired with the rom it came with so i started to look for hacks or mods and i found this site even dough that i had come here a year before looking for info on a ipaq and left the site because had no info on the ipaq. but when i got the wizard this site has helped me with everything
Thanks
Ho,
I am reading and getting more intrigued re flashing my TyTnII with a suitable ROM, after my holidy in July of couse as I really need it for that.
But can someone explain how a cooked ROM is able to out perform a stock one?
I dont get it? Take GPS for example. I read that it is the radio driver tha deals with this?
So how come a huge organisation like HTC puts a radio on the device and then someone off their own back is able to do something with the driver to make it more effiecient?
Or am I totally discombobulated and talking gaa gaa?

Well for one the software on Cooked ROMs is different. All the "Bloatware" is removed and some useful applications are cooked in.
As for radios there are many variaties (some ported from other devices) that perform better on different networks and different locations.
The radios arn't made by chefs, there just taken from different ROM's. I.e. some from the newest ATT Tilt, some from the Vodafone 6.1 ROM etc. etc.

HTC is a company with primary objective: making money
if you were HTC's owner, and assuming you want more and more money, would you release a product that is so perfect that nobody will never consider buying your next updated newer products? on the other hand, to attract customers to your current product you need to have amazing specifications listed in your marketing brochures (i.e. hardware features) which unfortunately can ONLY work with better "ingridients" of ROM (did somebody mention cooked ROMs ?)
ps: btw how old are you?

Further to this, HTC "forgot" the drivers for the hardware graphics acceleration for the MSM chipset. There not all that good.
Dave (BTW if you want my age you'll have to find it )
couple things you can do. You can flash a radio and you can flash a cooked rom. Different radios can give you different reception, and even faster GPS lock. You will have to experiment on which one works best, as long as the radio is compatible with the rom. A cooked rom has a lot of programs stripped out from OEM which makes the rom a lot faster than the OEM.
Excellent chaps, I am more inclined to have a go!
Mmm how old am I?
Well let's see beleive it or not I am a programmer for a large organisation but know jack about all this stuff in the same way I know jack about web creation or networks. But I do know about programming database applications and in my time have written a few nice graphics programs.
Now here's the thing....can you guess my age?
Have worked here for 25 years and worked my way up the ranks, been married for 22 years and have a 21 year old son.......
BTW why do you want to know how old I am?

How do cooked roms differ?
Well, to be honest, it's more about "usability / feel / look " than any other thing.
Original/Official roms are generally having an appalling feel and look. For example, take my network provider (Orange in UK). I had read a lot about TyTN_II (aka Tilt/Kaiser...etc.) before getting my own from Orange. The moment I unpacked the device and turned it on , I was completely disappointed. Orange engineers spend a lot of time "customizing" (i.e. ruining) the feel and look of the device so that it looks more Orange-ish.
Their fossil tech people bag their regular salary every month and are light years behind the current time. They have no desire/motivation to be innovative (that's why they do not realse a software update even every two years).
I received my SPVM3100 (aka TyTN) from Orange almost 3 years ago. Two and a half years later, when I received TyTN_II , I was shocked to see that they had loaded exactly the same bloatware and disgusting theme they had used on older HTC devices years ago.
xda rom developers are up-to-date; they are brilliant individuals who develop software out of their personal passion and love of technology. They know what is exactly going on in PDA community at this very moment. They listen to users' experiences in real life every day and they strive to make things look better, more practical and faster.
With an original/official rom you're stuck with what the HTC (or Orange, AT&T, Vodafone ...) developers put in your device ages ago. With cooked roms (depending on your actual use of the device) you have a variety of options to choose from.
And most important of all, you'll join the forum, get addicted to it, learn loads of new tweaks and work-arounds, and will see surprising new customized software almost every week.
Believe me, stay tuned in here and soon you'll notice that not only you're holding a completely different device in your hand, but also YOU will be a completely new user of the device ; a user more in command of the HTC you're carrying around
Welcome

I bought my TyTnII for £434 unlocked.
It has an Ornage sim card plus all the stuff I have loaed myself:
SBP Pocket Plus, Weather, Time etc and loads of German learning programs, speech and the like.
When I first came to this site I was put off as I did not fully grasp what it was all about, but that's me all over....should read the manual first
I really like the idea of flashing and getting rid of the bloatware as you call it and see how my device works afterwards.
But as I paid £434 for it if I brick it my wife will use said brick to remove my ability to father any heirs!!!!!
Yoinks!

Well, if you do have an issue, "Brick", there are a few people around that can revive you. If ever in need search around, there's a guy that has revived a plethora of dead kaisers, but I can't remember his name at the moment.
Anyway, as this really is not development related, I'm gonna move it to the general section.

Hello all! I jump from phone to phone when ever I can catch a broken one to fix for nearly free. I recently ran into an HTC HD 7 and am not really vibing to the windows mobile 7, and from what I read there is not currently a pre made rom available for installing android on this device. I have read a lot of information but am some what lost mainly because of some of the lingo terminology, being that I haven't hacked/developed outside of the ios platform. I can program in just about any c based language. Any one got ne thing that can help me out here? If I build one how would I install it or go about uploading it to the device? Thanks in advance for any replies I do greatly appreciate all your time! I apologize about the noobness like I said ios is whats been available to me for the past few years, and now I want android like a kid wants candy!!!

Developers/programmers have been trying to figure out how to dual boot the HD7 (like the HD2) since it came out. The main problem seems to be how WP7 is compiled .NET and C#. WP7 securitys still aren't fully unlocked.
Take a look at the Project Haret thread, they seem to be making some progress at it and if you have the know how, maybe you can contribute.

Thanks for the heads up, appreciate the reply, btw where is the thanks button? sorry this is my second post here. I started to do some research into it. I believe the answer is in the coredll.dll file which may be stating the obvious. I think the way to go about accessing this or at least what I am going to try is an attempt to gain root access with my device tethered to my comp from terminal.

Your welcome! I've read through the whole Project Haret thread and there is alot of information, (some way to complicated for me) trial and error and it looks like as of recent there has been some good progress towards getting Haret to perform and (hopefully) run kernel mode and actually boot the kernel. You might be right, give it a shot or maybe put it on the thread and see what kind of feed back you get on it!
Is your device unlocked yet so that you can gain access to it and try it out?
Personally I would love to see the HD7 dual boot WP7 and Android. Don't get me wrong... I thoroughly enjoy WP7 and love my HD7it's very smooth, fast, stable and not once has it crashed on me. I believe that it would bring a longer life experience to the device and make it that much more versatile, especially since we're nearing the end of official support.
The thanks button should be there now, under the posts.

Ok so I realize I might sound like an idiot considering everything I said can be found within the haret documentation. I originally read something found on google with inaccurate information after you told me about the project, come to find out the information I read was in no way affiliated with the the actual project haha. Forgive my stupidy, I began to read and follow along the documaton for it at htc-linux.org, the only thing I am having issue with is obtaining haretconsole to explore the device. The link on the documentation I believe no longer exists, and I can't find a source anywhere! This is pretty good stuff though thanks for linking me up with it! Have you installed the development tools or haretconsole on a linux OS by chance? I was successful with the developement tools, just need to figure out this haretconsole problem. BTW which desktop OS do you prefer?
Sadly I can't tell if my device is unlocked yet haha. I work at a university doing LAN Administration currently and used my .edu e-mail to register as a developer. I then registered my device but don't see a single difference or maybe I just am doing something wrong. How do you suggest going about that(unlocking it that is, I don't care about it being official, just figured official would be easlier)? Also for the iPhone there is a desktop application which allows you to access the filesystem called iFunBox, is there anything similar for the wp7?
I would just love android lol, I like the HTC HD7 and have always been a fan of HTC products, It definately is pretty smooth and compared to my previous device a 3gs it's lightening fast! 3g isn't supported with the 3gs on t-mobile either. My biggest issue with wp7 is the fact it doesn't do anything I want to be done in a device, I use my mobile browser ALOT and I have never seen a browser period with this many bugs, I installed safari but it's not even the same lol! For the most part I strongly strongly dislike anything related to microsoft, but unfortunately I have to work with the windows platform quite often because of my job. There just such a dirty/shady/grimmy company period, I saw a commercial yesterday advertising bing where they claimed 2 out of three people choose bing over google in a blind study............how can they advertise that when they stole googles code! lol. Also it was a pretty dirty business move of microsoft to do what your talking about with the wp8. They claim there going to continue support on 7 but we both know they all say that and do put the effort towards the legacy system for a short period of time before cutting it. Screwing Nokia out of major growth potential within the U.S. while going back on the promise made to them regarding free upgrades to 8 for 7 devices. I think they feel like there invincible just because they currently run the desktop OS market share. I think their will likely be a major change in the preferred OS within the next 10 years, just because I work in an 30,000 user enterprise that refuses to upgrade their liscensing with microsoft because of windows 8's inability to meet our needs.
Sorry if this message way to long haha

Sorry its taken me so long to get back with you... Been crazy busy!
Unfortunetly I only have Windows OS, PC and Laptop. Funny enough though, I just got my laptop back from the shop a couple weeks ago and I had to have the harddrive replaced. Last week my PC got the BSOD (blue screen of death) and I had to completly wipe and restore it.
My next computer will be a Linux OS forsure. I wish I had one currently to install Haret and play around with it!
The student registration is limited and you can only sideload a max of 3 unasigned apps. You would be better off to fully unlock your device and install a custom rom, this will give you more options to sideload as many unasighned apps as you want in the form of XAP's through IE. Access to the registry/file system and to apply hack and tweaks. you can then familurize yourself with the OS and file system.
I can help walk you through the unlock process, it's pretty easy.
Go to settings, about, more info. post back all the information from that screen. Enter your device into bootloader mode - Power device off, hold down the volume down button and power the device back on, while continuing to hold down the volume down button, this will bring you into BL mode a tri-colored screen. Post back the information from that screen also.We can go from there. The proccess to unlock it basicially is to downgrade the SPL to 3.xxx or lower to install RSPL/HSPL wich will allow flashing of a custom rom.
My IE works excellent. It might be due to what build version that your device is running on. Either way once we get it unlocked there's custom roms running on Tango 8779 build with nice features and the device runs buttery smooth. there's also more mobile browsers available to install once it's unlocked, Opera Mobile,UC browser and a bunch more. There's all kinds of XAP's you can install to cusromize the device and enhance the user experience.
Totaly agree with you on the Android development for WP7 and the above statement regarding MS
Check out this link for Haret -

Hello all! I jump from phone to phone when ever I can catch a broken one to fix for nearly free. I recently ran into an HTC HD 7 and am not really vibing to the windows mobile 7, and from what I read there is not currently a pre made rom available for installing android on this device. I am pretty technologically advanced and feel confident given the right direction on how to accomplish this I would be capable of creating one.
