How can I use my phone's GPS with a program like Streets and Trips or Street Atlas?
I often use my laptop while on the road (the wife drives) and would prefer a better option than TT6 Navigator.
you might have to get a USB gps puck for the laptop
GPS
Does that mean it can not be done? I have an interest in this also.
you need...
you need to expose your GPS to an external serial BT port. I think there is a tool called BlueGPS that does this. You can then use BT on your laptop to get the NMEA output. It makes your integrated GPS phone act like a BT GPS device for your laptop.

I use BlueGPS with my tilt over USB and it works well, except if I try to use Internet Sharing or WMWifiRouter it disconnects the com port. I haven't been able to get BlueGPS to work with Bluetooth of Wifi yet. So it only works with programs that have the maps on the computer and not ones like GooPS that get the maps from the Internet.

I downloaded the BlueGPS CAB, but cannot seem to get it to work.
Any specific instructions on how to get this BlueGPS work on the phone and have the laptop computer use the phones internal GPS receiver over bluetooth?
Attached is the BlueGPS installer CAB.
Thanks

Old thread...but after much investigation, I have discovered what you need is gps2blue, not BlueGPS!
gps2blue is free, and will do what is desired here.
GPS2Blue
GPS2Blue is here: http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2Blue.html

Try http://franson.com/gpsgate/
This is not free, but I guess you can try the trial version. In the windows mobile client you can use activesync as output and connect your phone to your computer. gpsgate should work on your computer after some configuration, I don't have full details but you can read at the above link.
I use gpsgate on my phone but I did not try on my computer.
I actually ordered a usb GPS 'dongle' and it's about the size of a USB flash drive or a BT dongle. I originally planned on taking it apart and hardwiring it into the motherboard of my laptop, but I think i'm going to hold off on it. Might make a good alternative to using the BT on your phone for GPS though.
There is a free app called GPS2BLUE (I think) that can send GPS data to your laptop through BT. I never test it, but as I remember, this was what it was made for.
Hi all.
Thinking of getting either a HTC TD2 or a HTC touch HD
the general feeling is that the td2 is the one to go for (i am sure that apart from the screen size the td2 is better)
As i have to ditch orange (they have just stopped the htc thd) I thought i might get a data bundle.
Is it possible to get a data bundle and then use the phone as a modem for my laptop (thus saving having to buy a dongle)?
also, sorry about this, but can you confirm if either the thd or td2 will work with tomtom6.
If not i presume i have to buy both tt7 and a whole raft of maps.
Any other advice for a newbie potential owner is appreciated
Thanks
Use the TD2 as a modem:
- Connect laptop and TD2 by pairing with BlueTooth or using a USB cable.
- On the TD2, run the wm6 default program Internet Connection Sharing and choose either BT or USB
- On your laptop, right click the BT systray icon and connect to PAN network
Thanks for the prompt reply
sorry for being thick but i dont think i Have a BT systray
so long as its possible thats ok
all i need to do now is choose which phone and find the best place to buy one
Thanks
Better to plug your phone into the laptop using USB, that way the laptop keeps the phone powered while you're surfing.
When you plug the phone in, it will ask you if you want Antivesync, Data Drive or Connection Sharing. Just select Connection Sharing and all will be doodly.
TT6 doesn't work - you need TT7 (7.910 or 7.915) and yes you have to re-purchase all your maps. Also, the TD2 is not supported by Tomtom which means you cannot use any services such as Traffic so you'll have to disable them.
Ok I have been looking for a solutions for a long time. I want to use my shiny new Dell Mini 10 with windows 7 for turn by turn directions and i want to use my at&t tilt as the GPS receiver. So, what FREE solutions do I have? Google Earth would be sweet if it had VOICE directions.. but I know the odds of finding a free solution for that is going to be slim.
also, i keep thinking that i'll need a data connection AND a way to share the gps signal?!
bluetooth isn't an option.. at least not yet. I have to buy a BT dongle some day soon. HOPEFULLY i can find a miniscule BT USB thing so it wont stick out the side of the mini too much.
So i have 2 options for connections.. i have WIFI router on the tilt or i have to use USB. but as far as i know.. if i use usb i have to then CHOOSE between internet sharing or activesync... i need to use active sync to share the gps ports but i need internet sharing to get the data connection!!?? sooooo confused..
someone PLEASE help me
thats the situation.. to review... here are the questions i need answered.
1) what software to use on the laptop?
2) what software(s) to use on the phone?
2a) gps sharing?
2b) internet sharing?
3) how to connect the two? (usb, wifi or bt)
THANKS AHEAD OF TIME to whoever responds..
and please don't BURN me because I HAVE SEARCHED.. if you know the threads i should read then please just link me and i'll be happy to read them over..
Well, you'll need something like gps2blue
http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2Blue.html
on the tilt and Hardware Virtual Serial Port from here:
http://www.hw-group.com/products/hw_vsp/index_en.html
That will make the GPS on the Tilt look like a Serial port GPS device to the netbook.
That is the easy part. I don't think you'll find a free GPS mapping product with turn-by-turn voice commands.
Actually you will

Hello!
I want to ask if it is possible to use the X1 as a GPS Mouse for a Netbook via bluetooth.
I had the idea to run a Navigation Software on my Netbook and I don´t want to buy an extra external GPS Mouse and so I wondered if that would be possible?
best regards
CybertechX1
Im not sure what you mean with "gps mouse", but you can use GPSGate to transfer gps signal over bluetooth or even via usb(activesync).
Sorry maybe my english isn´t always the best.
But I think that is something what I´m looking for.
I want to use the GPS Signal from the X1 for a Navigation Software on
my Netbook.
Looks like GPSGate can do this for me.
Thank´s a lot.
Simply put, you just want Xperia to act as a GPS receiver for your netbook, no?
Yes, I simply want to use the X1 as a GPS Receiver for my Netbook.
get the gps2blue program on the x1 and it does
and it's free
