Cupcake keyboard - myTouch 3G, Magic Apps and Games

Anyone have the original Cupcake keyboard or know the name of it so i can sttrip it from a rom?

Do you mean the black one?
If yes, cyanogenmod has it.

HTC_IME.apk as far as I know
If you can't find the stock one in a ROM, I have the 1.5 and 1.6 originals. PM me with a email address.

Not the HTC_IME one that one isnt as good as the original cupcake one imo. The original cupcake version is the one i would like

i think its latin_ime.apk

ideal thanks

is it the default black one?
what are the advantages?
the switch for the umlauts like ÖÄÜ is rather complicated with the default one. Or am i missing something

i just prefer it to the touch input one, It is faster and easier imho

keyboard

ok have already posted on the exit93 2.1 rom, but didnt get any replies, am looking for the keyboard that he used on that rom the one that adds a space after auto correction, am currently on modaco 3.1 and it doesnt have that feature. i also missed out on the touchpal keyboard which i used on windows mobile, now as far as i am aware, it was free on the market place for a while, so is there anyone with a cab file for it if it does exist. or even a better keyboard than the one on modaco3.1 would do thanks.

Sense like dialer on vanilla ROM?

I like just about almost everything about the vanilla ROM except the dialer. Default dialer doesn't have intelligent search and speed dial, i tried Dialer One, its better, but i am still more used to the sense dialer.. Soo.. i wanted to ask is there some sort of APK to get the Sense dialer?
I'm also interested for this I'm using the EzHero Rom and always when I'm calling I press "on hold" with my ear
This might do it - http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.shsh.android.atakephone
It's not free but is supposed to be good and has speed dial etc...
Doesn't have multilangual T9 like Sense, i am russian and most of my contacts are on russian and its pretty critical for me.
Next.
Dialer one will do it...has search etc
Once again, t9 is not multilangual, i had contacted developer about this and he said he have plans on how to implement this. Please note, the topic subject is not to find alternative, but rather integrate original sense caller into vanillarom.

I am interested as well if anything has come up yet.
Has anybody tried to pull Phone.apk and Contacts.apk from the ZTE Blade ROM? That has a Sense-like dialer, infact almost identical, just a copy. As it's a Vanilla ROM, it'll probably work with any of our CM 6.2 ROM's.
EDIT: Pulled the ZTE Blade/Orange San Fransisco Phone/Contacts/ContactProvider/TelephonyProvider apk's
http://db.tt/Qpx7qY3 - Phone.apk
http://db.tt/mrdDrCb - Contacts.apk
http://db.tt/OuZ4Gqq - ContactsProvider.apk
http://db.tt/F6o13dS - TelephonyProvider.apk
I'm not sure if these can be installed or not, as they are from an Android 2.1 build, maybe a bit of apk editing is needed.
Just install aDialer from market.
Same main features as dialer one but wayyyyyyyyy faster

Dialer2 is a really good dialer that only came out recently
DialerOne and NubDial are soooooo slow...
Youlu address book blows both out the water!
and basic answer - no, there is no way to get any of the sense apps like it's dialer to run in a non-sense rom.
you must use an alternative dialer as has been suggested. I love youlu
but I don't know about language stuff - you have to try them I guess.
After reading some weird ideas about not letting people who've posted less than ten times post i thought i better trawl the 'lesser' threads for something i can chip in to, just in case i need to ask a question or post in future...
so i was looking at dialers and i randomly found 'touchPal smart dialer' - free on the market, user interface is....okay actually, speed is...okay too. not that i have masses of experience but it also looks closer to the sense dialer than i've seen yet.
Might be a worth a look if you really miss the sense dialer.

Youlu Address Book (includes SMS/MMS app) and Dialer2 are my favourite. Both are pretty fast, good interface and have T9 search.
I'm feeling the Youlu Address Book love. I've tried most dialler's available and this one isn't perfect but seems overall the best for my needs.
Youlu is fast, but I wish it would be without the sms app. I will try the Dialer2 mentioned above, because DialerOne is too slow.
'TouchPal smart dialer' is def the way forward in my opinion. Has anyone else tried it?
it seems to be ever so slightly faster than dialer2 and the interface is nicer - more sense like.
1st of all in my previous post I've said aDialer when I've ment Dialer2, my mistake - mixed up the name.
2nd of all when I search market for touchpal I get 4 apps with chineese desc only. No comments on any app, no opinion no anything in the market app. Looks a bit scarry.

Sorry, cant quote the links, as I'm a 'bad' new user
And is there ANY Dialer, that is as quick as the Sense one? (and has smart dianling ) I'v tried most of the mentioned Apps in this thread, but all were way slower, than the Sense dialer... but as I want to get a custom Rom, I'm also looking for a replacement

Vanilla Dialer?

Is there any way to replace the HTC dialer on a Sense ROM with the Vanilla dialer? Dialer One has a TON of flaws (can't even call 911, let alone program the phone with it) that the vanilla dialer doesn't. Thanks in advance!

Instead of search search search, why don't you read read read?
"This Metamorph theme will change the buttons on the HTC dialer and the Phone apks to look more like the vanilla dialer. After appyling, you will get a FC on the phone.apk, but then it will go away and everything will be fine."
All this does is skin the HTC Dialer to look like the Vanilla Dialer. What my question was is if you can replace the HTC Dialer with the Vanilla dialer, and yes, I did search, thank you. I have seen some posts saying that it isn't thought to be possible, but that doesn't mean it is, nor that someone may know something else.
Had you not been so short with the search comment, I would never be this short back, but thanks, anyways.

I can't remember now, but a while ago I used the contacts.apk and phone.apk from an aosp rom (don't remember which one) on a sense rom (not sure which one either, maybe it was Tainted Vanilla).
You can try ripping those apks from and eclair (not froyo) rom and seeing if they work, or download the old Tainted Vanilla rom (maybe even one of the new ones) and see which dialer they use.

Ahh, maybe that was the issue. I tried pulling them from a Cyanogen ROM (I think) and it didn't work. I'll give her a shot. Thanks!

[SOLVED] .apk for Gingerbread keyboard for HD builds

Finally, there is now a .apk for a simple install of the new Gingerbread keyboard.
It has been confirmed working for MCCM HD and MDJ Desire HD build so it should work for all the other HD builds.
The .apk files can be found here.
I would love to get this working as well. To shed some light, it does work on Motoman's black and blue, which is based off of MDJ's rEVOlution 2.0. So I know it is sense compatible, just not Desire HD compatible.
I would love if someone got this working!
This is the error log when FC. I cant look at it now but I suppose lib files needs to be changed. I have no C-coding capabilities.. so..
http://pastebin.com/hjERAKe0
+!. I would love this too, it's the only thing missing from MDJ's RevolutionHD build. I honestly don't think many people are bothered though, the problem is that once I'd tried it with a Froyo build it's horrible going back to the HTC one. So unresponsive and nasty.
I tried the gingerbread keyboard in darkstones superram build, and man I hated it! How do you guys deal with not have the arrow keys? Especially with copy and pasting, editting, etc...its a pain without the arrow keys.

You don't need arrow keys with the HD builds because you get the zoom and select features when you press and hold on the text area.
But when you mistype and you want to correct a single letter, then tipping with a finger can be difficult... thus i love the arrow buttons!

I am just guessing here but I dont think you have actually tried to pin point where you want the cursor on one of the Desire HD builds. All you have to do is put your finger on the text and it magnifies it for improved accuracy, similar to the iphone really but it works a treat. Saying that though, this improvement over positioning the cursor may have something to do with why it isnt compatible with the Desire HD builds yet. I'm not a programmer but I should imagine it would just be a case of modifying the script to get this to work.
I have not messed with the new Gingerbread keyboard yet, but does the zoom or curser location feature packaged with the keyboard or is that some other sort of small application?
I use Smart Keyboard so i switch between the HTC keyboard and the iPhone keyboard.
(I find Black or darker keyboards harder to type outside, compared to lighter or white keyboards)
A friend emailed me the Gingerbread keyboard and I'm not exactly where to install it?
/SD/Android applications?

I think you have a point with cursor placement, it is the same no matter which keyboard you use. I were just clutching at straws when I suggested it. I'm not a chef or programmer so dont have a clue how to fix the Gingerbread keyboard with the Desire HD builds. I know you have to move the app and lib files into the system directory for CM6, MIUI and I have heard Desire builds, it seems it is only the Desire HD builds where there is a problem as force error pops up.
Maybe soon Gingerbread keyboard will be available with any build, or someone releases a fix for it.
+1 to this, I would LOVE to see a Gingerbread keyboard on MDJ Desire HD!
+ 1 here.
Hope the Android ROM chiefs incorporate it in their next releases while we wait for a gingerbread ROM
+1,, i hope to see this work on hd desire builds too!
as i mentioned in ur other thread i found it i'll also post the link here for those hunting the famous gingerbread keyboard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875202

Thanks for the link. It says in the link provided that the build they are using is a cm6 build. However I have downloaded the relevant apk for 2.2 desire_hd2 build and installed it without any problems. After ticking the box in settings and selecting Gingerbread keyboard, the same force close issue comes up.
It seems the Android keyboard works with every build apart from the Desire HD build. Lets hope a solution is found soon.
Just wanna subscribe to this thread
WTH is this stickied?
There isn't even a dummies guide to running Android on a HD2 stickied (even though the threads exist), yet this thread gets stickied?
what's so special about this keyboard?

what's special about it is that we are all INSTALL ADICTS and just have to try it out coz it's out there ....and what others have working must be working on our HD2 with the latest ROM too ...

Help with a keyboard

I am running cognition 3.04 ROM. I have a difficult time with the keyboard (eyesight issues) I found the attached pic from within XDA (just a conversation no zip or cwm file) It is a droid x keyboard skin.
1) Is this installable on this rom. If yes where can I get it?
2) Or does someone know of one like this, that can be used? Totaly black keyboards are also a problem for me.
Thanks
Does Cog have swype? That usually is a little brighter and is much faster

I don't know the answers to your questions.
But on a related note, have you considered 3rd party solutions? I use Smart Keyboard but there are a few good ones out there. What I really like about these is that you can set up portrait to have a different keyboard (such as compact QWERTY or even T9) that make it easier to see and type (cause keys are bigger) yet maintain full QWERTY in landscape mode.
3rd party keyboards also often support different skins so you can find whatever color contrast you like best.
+1 i really like smart keyboard !
Looked at all the smart keyboards. can't find one similar to the one I posted above
Where did you look to find the skins? If it was in the market, they may not show all of them.
Here is another that looks a little like yours above. Can you clarify what color/contrast you are looking for? There are many more skins so possible there is one even closer to what you want.
