I think the TouchFlo 3D is fantastic for "showing off" your Touch Diamond, but it's a bit gimmicky, and slightly cumbersome, so I'd like to be able to turn it on and off when it suits me.
Out of the box, to do this you need to go into the homescreen settings and select TouchFlo 3D, or, deselect it, and reselect all your usual homescreen plugins - a bit of a pain.
However, I've realised that browsing to the "Manilla exe" in the Windows directory turns on the TouchFlo without affecting your homescreen plugins. If you then kill the manilla process using a a Task Manager which shows processes, you're straight back to your normal homescreen. I've made a shortcut in the Start Menu so I can toggle between the two relatively quickly and easily.
But, I'm looking for some clever person out there to make a simple app which toggles between TouchFlo 3D and normal homescreens at the press of a button. I'm sure it can't be that difficult (for someone who knows what they're doing)??!! It just needs to launch the Manilla exe and then kill it when you want to turn it off.
Anyone fancy having a go?
Cheers
Simon.
It is possible to toggle between spb mobile 2 screens and touchflo 3d though.
Kill Manila.exe
Has anybody come up with an automated(one click) way of killing the Manila.exe process ?
Mortscript
Create a script with Mortscript to check for the presence of manila.exe.
If not present, start it.
If present, kill it.
Create a shortcut to the script in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Assign this shortcut to button 1.

thought thats called SecondToday?
ToggleManila.mscr
I have the same problem, that I want to turn on TouchFlo 3D, but still want to keep my "Classic" Today Screen intact.
Although I tried SecondToday, however it cannot display the internal plugins such as Tasks, Calendar and Date
Thanks to wensing's suggestion, I created this simple script. If you want to run the script, please follow the instructions below.
a) The first thing you need to do is to disable the TouchFLO 3D from Today Panel Plugins, then activate your favourite Today Plugins (except TF3D)
b) Install MortScript
c) Put the "ToggleManila.mscr" in any folder you prefer.
d) Create a shortcut to this script, name it (eg. ToggleToday.lnk) and put the shortcut inside the folder "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs".
e) Go to Settings->Buttons, and simply assign "Button 1(Hold)" to point to the ToggleToday shortcut.
Of course you are free to experiment with other settings or assign it any other buttons.
Another thing to note is, because TF3D will "take over" the Home hardware button, I have no choice but to kill it, so that the classic Today Screen can be activated after TF3D is killed. However this also means the next time you activate TF3D, it will take some time to load. So please be patient and wait for the TF3D while it is loading.
Anyway, this is my first attempt at using MortScript, just a simple piece of work, but hope that I can bring some joy to my fellow Diamond users.
Hope that it works for you guys
Thanks Wensing
The mortscript suggestion works perfectly.
I am running SwiftBL 3.0, and when I launch the script, TouchFLO3d restarts automatically. Does this script work only on roms that have uninstallable manila?
Or do I have to edit some registry settings so that manila doesn't restart automatically?
when I try and assign a button there are no buttons to select in my menu, any ideas why?
Uncheck TF3D

So far, I am using Settings->Buttons and I assign "ToggleManila" to Button1(Hold). By default this may have been assigned to other programs such as Voice Commander etc. Just replace it with "ToggleManila".
I am not familiar with other more advance programs that allow u to assign it to the other hard buttons, so I am sorry I can't advice u on that.
By the way, u might have to create a shortcut that points to the actual file where u place the ToggleManila.mscr, and then u put this shortcut (I simply name it ToggleManila.lnk) inside Windows->Start Menu->Programs before u can select "ToggleManila".
See if it works.
This works great, thanks everyone involved!
I find it better than 2nd Today because the device is much quicker without manila running.

I'm using Dutty's Diamond v1.8 (full) and used to have speed problems when launching applications, particularly after using the audio player.
TF3D is alright but it doesn't actually do anything that special. The weather screen is pretty but most of the other screens are useless, especially the horribly limited 'favourite contacts'. Now that I've got used to the standard windows today screen I prefer it.
I'm looking forward to trying out Schap's TouchXperience though!
that's work very nice
now we must wait for TFL3D tasks and who knows how this thing will be
this works great with the manila2D with the touch. One question though. The script kills the manila2D very quickly, but it does take several seconds for it to run it; any way of speeding that up?
thanks for the script
work very well
thanks for the script. great work
As Leekg has mentioned you can use TF3D and SPB Shell together.
I have left TF3D as it is and installed the SPB Shell as well. On the home screen have reprogrammed one of the Soft keys to SPB Menu -- touching that takes me to the Shell. Closing it brings me back to TF3D!
I do have a question though -- is there any way of changing the default msic player to windows media?
I recently bought TD2, and is by no means a big fan of the new startmenu. How is it possible to replace it with the "old" one ?
I've been searching the forum, since I've heard of a little program that can fix this issue, but without luck .
Thanks in advance !
The new start menu comes as part of Touch Flo 3D.....If you distable TF3D in settings\personal\today\items, you get the old menu system.
I'm amazed that anyone would prefer the old WM one.

There are two great lacks in the new menu :
1. too few items available in the 'icons' start page, and no kind of sub-folders or program groups.
then
2. if you go in the full list because your program is not in the icons page, the list can be long and fastidious.
Hope it will be corrected in next version and be available for D2, or windows 6.5 titanium/CHome will replace TF3D
Try TF3D2 Tweak in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502102
Thank you all, for your replies .
If you just want to change the start menu but leave Manila turned on, just change the following in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu\Enable ManilaStartMenu =dword:00000000
After a restart you have the old start menu
Is it possiple too keep both ways?
I mean when you press the start menu on the top of the screen to have the old start menu and when you press the windows hard key to have the new one?
I think this would be more usefull for many people who like the new menu but want some features of the old one!

Ah right, I see. I've not hit that issue, I guess I just don't use that many programs!
One question: how can I enable the old style like in WM 6.1.
I use 6.5 without Manilla (UDK R1.)
It's annoying to select start/settings/connections if you want to set more the 1 thing...bluetooth, WIFI etc....also for programs.
Or how can I customize the start menu in 6.5 ...order, content...
another way
This would keep the new start menu when you tap on "start" and make pop-up a replica similar whith the old one when you tap on windows or whatever icon you have on the upper left corner of the screen near the text "start". I didn't make this just downloaded from somewhere.

Doesn't seem to work on my Diamond2. (Does nothing)
I was wondering if someone could do a buttom like the settings buttom in the new start menu that could open the old programs menu.
I think this shouldn't be so difficult, since there is a similar buttom for the settings.
Welcome here Liviu. (Bine ai venit pe aici, marfa site-u pt HTC-uri)
I try it Quick Menu, it's like Windows PC START menu and it's hard to use with a finger
I speak about the old menu from WM6.1 not Pc windows...
Ksara it's works on TD2 I try it and work well but it's not what I want.
You are right Pauln, it's not finger friendly but hei! that stylus is there so ...
Anyway for me it does the job so here is a pic for those who want an alternative. The icon "Quick menu" you will find also in Programs.

I'm one of them. I disabled touchflo and installed spb pocket plus: I've got everything in sight, with no need to flip over strange desktops and icons!
I found these registry entries somewhere else and i thing these are the key to make a shortcut in manila programs folder to the old Programs folder Just like there is for the settings folder (number 3)
"Remove the locked program tab items
Code:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila/ProgramLauncher/0/IsReadOnly
HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila/ProgramLauncher/1/IsReadOnly
HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila/ProgramLauncher/2/IsReadOnly
HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila/ProgramLauncher/3/IsReadOnly
Change this value from 1 to a 0 and you can then edit their shortcuts."
Please someone who is familiar with this , create a shortcut.

But what is the way to do it, because I don't want to install some software that almost does the same. I want it the old way.
Please help.
Hello,
I´m using Valkyrie V3.0 Firestorm with normal Touchflo (no Leo), but I recognize this problem on many other ROMs, so I decided to make an own thread:
activating another panel (for example mediapanel and start playing a title)
=>pressing the red key for locking the screen
=>unlocking the screen
=>the panel isn`t visibile (but still work in the background) and I see touchflo
=>activating the panelmanager, it slides out the panel (so that the panel should be visible)
Is there a solution for this? That I can activate all panels and they are still active, working and VISIBLE after keylocking?
Yes, it's an incompatibility between panels and tf3d. the best solution I have found is to use the excellent WkTask, which enables you to "minimize" manila and see whatever panel you have running behind.
I guess any task manager that allows you to switch to manila (most of them hide it) would do the same job, but I like WkTask
WkTask: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335085
If using WinMo 6.5, read this:

ahh thank you very much!

hi dear chefs. i would like to request a rom... based on 6.1 R3AA with integrated Manila 2.1/2.5...and...wait for it...Thats it!! there are roms out there but they are a bit "heavy" for my taste. I don't like the huge finger menus, or the enlarged start menu.
I like using the track pad, and u lose the appeal of using it when you have such huge menus.
So here is what i would like to request:
6.1 R3AA rom; with Manila 2.1/2.5 (which ever is more stable), and the common htc applications found on all roms these days, like HTC album, mp3 trimmer, you tube. etc.
i dont want enlarged menus (i prefer those found in the official generic roms), or enlarged start menus. i have an open mind about the notification bar, but would be better if it were provided with the menu to turn it off.
Is it possible oh dear chefs??
it should be considering u are all experts at making 8 course meals, and im just asking for a appetizer.
It should be a breeze for you guys..
Thanxs.

Both enlarge start menu and menu enhancement can be disable with registry. Do yr part of homework and search for the answer.
well could some one pls post the registery edits for disabling the finger menus and disabling the enlarged start menus...?
This is the first ROM I'm cooking.
I focus on:
Lite memory usage
No third party programs
No programs that only a minority of the users will use
I present my first ROM. Before this I didn't know how to cook a ROM but I learned! I decided to cook this ROM because I was not satisfied with the current offerings. I wanted a ROM with just the HTC software and no visual changes to Manila.
NOTE:
This ROM is setup for AT&T Tilt2. To use it on a different Rhodium, set your own keyboard layout (Tools folder in the Start Menu) and AGPS settings.
Check the second post for the Quick-Fix section to see if there are any fixes for the current ROM.

This is the first ROM I'm cooking.
I focus on:
Lite memory usage
No third party programs for the most part
No programs that a minority will use
I'm not quite done with it but I am nearing completion. Before this I didn't know how to cook a ROM but I learned! I decided to cook this ROM because I was not satisfied with the current offerings. I wanted a ROM with just the HTC software and no visual changes to Manila.
After installing my own programs and resetting, I have 90-95MB of RAM free. There is about 230MB of free storage capacity after first boot.
So far I would like to thank
Bilbobrian for the taskbar icons
Shadowline for the base images used for the softkey buttons and top and bottom bar, though they were slightly modified.
Since I am on AT&T I will have the AT&T keyboard configuration and AGPS settings set as default. I will include a cab to switch them back to WWE if needed.

When are you releasing it? You style of lite rom is exactly what I am looking for. Would be even better if you change home screen to 16 shortcuts instead of default 9 and 4 rows Start Menu. If not, I can still install the cabs.
Looking forward.

Looks very promising, exactly the approach I'd like best. I also agree with zard to best have a 4x4 quicklink matrix in the today screen. With 9 links it's just a few favs missing.
Awaiting your release, definitely going to try it.
I am also looking forward to your release! Sounds interesting!
Which dialer is going do be cooked in ?
PS: I would definitely vote AGAINST 4x4 Homescreen It can easily be installed by a cab and slows down the homescreen, doesn't sound quite lite to me
Looking forward to giving this a Go...
I have been using NRG's ROM, but as work is getting busy I think I am going to have to scrafice the Latest & Greatest for some Stability. I will be looking forward to seeing this..
I want to release it as soon as possible but that may still be a couple days. It takes about 20 minutes to cook, flash, and boot so it takes time to make one little change and see if it fixes the problem.
I currently have the latest Leo 2.02 dialer on it but it doesn't seem too great. If I rotate into landscape and then back to portrait it is distorted. I have to switch to something else for a couple seconds and then reopen the dialer for it to look normal.
If anyone has any suggestions as to which dialer to use, go ahead.
Unfortunately I am keeping the 3x3 grid because I like that more.
I am def in your corner with this concept, Petard. I was teased with at least one other person who was going to create a lite ROM but it didn't turn out to be lite, in my opinion. Lite for me is not including anything that can be added with a cab.
I am not sure I understand what "No third party programs for the most part" means. It's sort of like almost pregnant. In any case you are the cook so whatever you come up with is what I will work with.
I would also like to jump into the kitchen and begin cooking. Any advice on where I should start to learn? Since you just got your start I thought you could help guide me a bit. You can pm me so as not to crap up your ROM thread here. Thanks!
Looking forward (patiently) to the release.

Well I currently have Opera 10 in but I could remove it. What does everyone think? I could easily add it back into my Sashimi auto install.
I may also include a task manager, or maybe just leave the default WM one in.
I am also thinking of installing Rhodium Keyboard Control because I need that for my Tilt 2 to map the PTT button.
this is a great idea
im always looking for a rom like this..i think you should release it..and tweak it along the way..
I could release it but there are still some bugs I need to work out.
The dialer bug for instance and also the themes are kind of messed up.
I haven't figured out how to make my theme default yet and if I switch to it and back to HTC Black, HTC Black will not work correctly.
Also my theme still currently contains other peoples work who may not like me including it in my ROM.
And the Start Menu is currently a mess. SO many icons in there. No organized folders.
I vote - Take some more time and get it cleaned up... It would be great if you could have a section of this Thread where we Links / Files of popular Cab's could be posted. Including Opera...
I would throw Rhodium or Qilin Dialer(!) into the room of discussion
And I would like Opera 10 not to be included
Take your time sorting everything and fixing all the bugs
Does Qilin support landscape? The LEO dialers aren't working for landscape.
I will try the Rhodium dialer. Does that play well with Sense 2.5 though? Anyone know? I'll find out I guess.
Wow
It looks great keep the hard work up
sounds like a winner to me. might try your rom but it will be tough to move away from deep shining roms they have been amazing for me.

We could add Opera with a cab so you can leave it out.
A task manager is needed, so pick your favorite.
Rhodium Keyboard Control can be added with a cab, so you can leave it out. But you are the chef so whatever you want to do is cool.

There are several threads with cab files and programs in them. Also, you can search for cabs.
Alright this is the latest development.
I may release it tomorrow (Sunday for me) but more likely on Monday.
The LEO dialer works perfectly fine in portrait but not in landscape. I have taken a lot of time and haven't found how to make the Rhodium dialer work well in 23518. I will take care of the dialer problem in a later release.
What I have left to do before I can release it:
Create shortcut to WM Task Manager
Figure out how to set my theme as Default
Arrange Start Menu
Customize Action Screen Shortcuts and set it to left softkey
Customize Comm Manager

That minority thing sounds pretty racist. jk sounds like a fast rom.
