The official Facebook app for Android is now available in the market. Looks a pretty solid release. Loving the widget.
A lot of people, at least in Sweden is reporting it to crash at startup. I'm running latest MoDaCo ROM.
How come application is released by katana-something. How do one actually know this application is an officially one?

Doesn't look like an official application to me, no matter what it says in the description.

Okay chanced language for the os from danish to english and now it works just fine
seems slow and laggy and has less options than a mobile site :/
Developers email: [email protected]
About as official as a 419 scammer purporting to be from the IMF with an email address like [email protected], with an offer of a share of a few million quid!

Alright... Somebody should change the thread title
Yes and no. It IS the "official" Facebook app, and most certainly must have been developed WITH Facebook. Actually, even the iPhone app development page said it was not developed by Facebook up until v. 3 (I think). --And it definitely was. They just gave credit initially to the FB employee who had done the coding. The story behind this app is that Google "lent" FB an Android dev to create this app.
The Palm, Blackberry, and other "official" FB apps also say they were not made by Facebook. Click "mobile" on your computer at the bottom of the screen and check them all out. FB does this for some reason. Also, any previous apps that have been developed have been forced to remove the word "Facebook" from their names. Bloo was originally called something different, and he was forced to change the name. This is why we have "Babbler", "Bloo", "Fbook", etc. You know every one of those devs would have preferred to name their apps "Facebook". I have no doubt this app is developed officially in conjunction with Facebook.

Works fine for me! No crash on modaco 2.0
Yeh, as Switchbitch said, it IS the official Facebook app, but it was NOT created by Facebook, but rather, in association with Facebook.
And in regards to crashing - working perfectly fine here on MCR 2.1e.
MCR 2.2 Here. No crashing, and every bit as cool as the iPhone app from what I can tell.
iPhone version is obviously going to be a lot more feature-filled and stable (seeing as they're already at version 3.x) but I can picture the Android one improving over time.
The app is the same one shown in the leaked images a few weeks back and when installed and used the 1st time you must accept the facebook terms and conditions.
Does not crash for me at all, is pretty fast however i have noticed that i seem to get notifications from babbler way before this app notifies me about anything.
From reading about the app previously you would have known that it wasnt going to be as advanced as the iPhone app and wouldnt have access to items such as your inbox.
This app is based entirely on the new stream system that facebook usues.
On a side note, does anyone know how to skin the widget and the notification icons?
which one is the "official" one?
i can see quite a few out there like facebook lite, mobile facebook etc etc
This is rubbish. You can see people's walls and your own, but no access to your inbox for private messaging...?
And how do you update your status rather than just post to your... "wall". I think the problem is that Facebook has changed since i used it last and I don't understand it!
They released a version this morning that didn`t work. Force quit during startup.
Around lunchtime they released an update. Now everything is work as it should. Pure joy!
So, it seems status updates now go straight to the wall rather than being seperate. and are archived to your wall. Then the news feed gets everyones comments and status updates. You can also post on someones wall if you wish, as well as commenting directly on thier status. I get it. I think
Well, it's missing friend search, and messaging.
Battery life
Has anyone else noticed this chewing through the battery? Since installing this I've been watching the percent left drop on a frequent basis. I've got it set to update every hour.
EDIT
Forget that, it was just me being paranoid. Fully charged the phone last night, unhooked it from the mains this morning at 7am and currently power is sitting at a very respectable 99%.

This version has ads while i test out the app. when the app is complete, the link will go to the version without ads for XDA users.
So this is an app i am currently working on. In the end it will be ad supported, but for now i will be sharing it here.
Once you are in, feel free to look me up : thefro : and say hi!
This is a work in progress, so obviously not everything is in place yet.
Working:
You and others join channels to chat in.
Settings and avatar (synced with server)
Push Messaging
Find people around you
Live Tile
Kinda Working:
All is well for now...
Upcoming:
cosmetic upgrades
All feedback is welcome!!
If you do try it out and run into issues, please let me know so i can fix it!
Usage Notes:
There will not be a list of channels, you will have to join one(by typing in a name), and tell others to meet you there. This is to keep thing private'ish... so you dont have random people just showing up. Most items will have context menus, so when in doubt, long press.
I can be found in channel : "support" - Push is done, so i will be able to catch your messages even with the app closed!
Nightly builds will always be at this link... i will also try to keep them as stable as possible. - No new builds until i need to make changes..
While there are daily updates, check the link often as i usually upload new versions as features are completed.

Hello Everyone, i found some odd bugs that may not let you log in. ( i never uninstall it, just keep updating so i had no idea they were there )
Those are now fixed as well as a few other improvements.
Check the link for the updated version.
Hello again...
I see lots of views, and some people even went far enough to create an account..
Please leave any feedback...
If something doesnt work, or makes it crash...
tell me its a horrible idea, or that maybe you like it and want more...
Well, sorry for the long delay if anyone was waiting... i was out of the country..
Later!
-Edit....
So, i decided to see why there were no users doing anything even though i see new users in the system and the fact that this has a pile of views. Come to find out, people could not complete the new user signup process... so i fixed it and now users can create accounts and try out the app... If you created an account and had this issue, i had to delete your account since the process was incomplete...
Feel free to try the app again, and hopefully let me know of any other problems that may arise.
Now that it is done, this is the last bump... it goes somewhere or it doesnt.
Hi..
I admit that I'm just a noob. I was trying to setup the citrix into my Note.
I found the citrix receiver apps in the market and managed to install it successfully.
i had also installed the root.crt. when i tried to setup the citrix, first it prompt to keyin the server name, i had keyed in and enter. after that a message pop-ups "Invalid server certificate". so i just accept it. i add an account by put in all the informations provider by our company's server admin. such as:
server name
user name
password
domain
description
when i tried to connect it, the "Invalid server certificate" message appeared again. and again i accepted it. i managed to see all the related applications which was available for me to access but when i clicked on the icons, it never launced but it gave message "cannot connect. cannot verify this server's certificate". this application can works without any problems on blackberry and iphone.
is there anybody who manage to install this apps and its working. please share..
thanks
I ve tried this on the SGS2 (getting Note next month )
And I did not have have a certificate issue (was connecting behind a VPN), but the last step to actually launching apps did fail.
Is it an Android issue?
Sorry, no help from me, just empathy
Hop someone can come up with some solution. Are you running the stock ROM? Who knows, maybe a custom one would work better? could be worth a curious try if you fancy running custom roms
Having the exact same problem on my Galaxy Nexus. I think it may be an issue when running on ICS
I'm also having the same problem with my verizon galaxy nexus. I just came from an OG droid where citrix was working fine. Settings are the same. I've looked all over online and can't seem to find a solution.
Anyone?
This is the reply I got from Citrix guys:
We have discovered an issue with our SSL implementation and the new Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.x) implementation. They have changed the security infrastructure but it did not show up on our emulators. We are actively working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We have temporarily removed the Receiver for download to 4.x devices. Please watch for updates coming shortly, with the holidays it will most likely be in January.
Thanks for your feedback and watch for the update.

Hi guys..
Thanks for replying. i'm still trying to install it until now but it still negative...
Robin, glad to hear that citrix team is fixing it. but is this mean that we need to change the devices to android for to enjoy the fixes? Is there any ways that i can do, without changing the devices?
please advice.
thanks

doesnt sound like there is any way to run it on the Nexus or Note at this time.
You would need another device running android 2.x. I seriously doubt we would ever see a way to load these android 4.0 devices with an earlier version of android on it so I dont think there is a way without using a different device.
Hey guys,
had the same issue today. You can use the Citrix Receiver Beta from the market temporary. That is running perfectly with ICS. Tested on Sensation and Galaxy Tab 10.1v no issues.
just got an update last night. Citrix now compatible with ICS!
works great for me on the nexus so I'm assuming it'll work for the note as well.
Just to confirm... After the update everything is also working on ics with galaxy tab 10.1v.

Ist there some Team/Developer working on an OpenSource alternative to the official Samsung Galaxy Gear Manager? I am the programmer behind OpenFetch (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sindaccos.openfetch) which was just a test to get the HTC Fetch working with any BLE/Android 4.3 enabled Smartphone.
This gave me so much experience with BLE profiles, characteristics and co. so I am searching for some more devs helping me coding an OpenGearManager.
So who is with me?
Regards,
Gamer
Sounds like a great idea hope you get more devs on board
Nope, no work on a OpenSource replacement is going on atm, not in the public anyway.
I´we done some custom Gear apps for the null_ rom but if I´m capable of helping out with this, I don´t know.
I´m sure @fOmey (author of null_) can help out with lot´s of info for the project.
I love the idea !
Pushing notifications to the gear using a open program would be awesome for end users.
Have you checked out M2D ? It would be a great start if you could get the source.
How about an iPhone (Cydia) app that would push notifications to the Gear?
This is the best idea yet. Because of the fact that I'm an idiot I would love to be able to push apps and make other changes via the gear manager. I would think this would open the door for other idiots like myself to get this watch. I am running null 16 but had someone else load it for me. would love to go 22 but don't know how plus I heard you lose settings in touchwiz...a reinvented gear manager would fix this right?
I would like to help, but do not have the time right now. Could it be possible to reverse engineer the proprietary protocols so we can use the apps created for the gear with the open version of gear manager?
I have been looking into this. But there is alot thats way over my head. But i would say its not possible. Not for now anyhow. But anything is possible i guess.

I wouldn't go as far as saying its impossible...
If you have experience in bluetooth communication between devices & JSON requests it may not be as hard as you may think.
It would be a bit of a difficult project tho !
Lets forget about JSON requests for a minute and listen to my theory:
Half of it is done with M2D manager by pacosal, the bluetooth connectivity part anyway... if someone was to code a notification listener for the host phone, we could push the M2D intents to the gear.. simple enough right ?
We then code a listener for the gear to listen for M2D intents, when one of the "notification intents" is received we fire the following intent to show a custom notification.
For a example put this command in adb shell:
Code:
am start -a android.intent.action.VIEW -n com.samsung.notifications/com.samsung.notifications.NotificationAlertActivity -e title Test
This would give basic notification functionality, its not that difficult to code and it would work across all android devices.
If I was confident enough to code in JAVA, I would take on the project myself although with a lack of time to learn and other ongoing projects it makes it hard... in saying that tho I am more than happy to help anyone who is game to make a start !
One of the gear users created a third party app to send notifications to the gear: ATN
If only he released the source, it would be excellent to get an idea how things work.
I'm all up for that iPhone cydia app! I really want a gear but don't like samsung phones. I'd pay for the app too, if you list it for a price, I'd pay up to $15-$20 for it
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
It would be great to have this working, i am currently using ATN Manager and was a pain to get working as you have to find and use a specific version of the app to get the functionality, i posted about it here as well as getting the WatchStyler working on a non-Samsung device (Nexus 5) here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50550974&postcount=129
However you only get a message that you got a notification for some and not a full message to read, while that works while your phone may be on silent it would be great to have the full functionality like with a Samsung device.
Very excited about this! Hope someone can get it going! I'd be more than happy to test as I am sure is with other!
First of all - Hi everyone! I'm a frequent reader, first time poster.
Now to the point. As soon as I'm done with my masters defense (around next two weeks), I'm starting a project that might help with this idea.
I'm basically going to implement an android service that will provide an abstract interface for communication between any android phone with bluetooth capability (if possible, still some research ahead of me) and Galaxy Gear. I haven't decided yet if interaction will be done by intents or if it would be in form of a library or even raw classes. Still if the project will succeed I'm going to try to build the same abstract interface for Windows Phone devices (no intents here, so propabbly as a library). If it proves possible then same thing will be done with iOS, by a friend of mine.
Assuming this would work, someone would have to reverse engineer the Gear Manager, so if there is anyone that is able to do that I will be happy to cooperate in any way I can.
I'm not promissing anything for now, but let's see how will things go.

Awesome, looking forward to where this goes!
Hi mates.
I've switched from note 3 (greatest phone I've ever bought) to note 8 and I'm encountering a problem with the email configuration.
Actually, on the email application of note 3 I was able to add a personal PGP certificate for signing an email (or even deciphering emails from my contacts). The current Samsung email application seems to not have such feature... can you confirm this to me?
It's about to be weird, since they are spotting the encryption feature into the app description on the play store. Thanks
Interesting. I did a quick test just now and found the same.
The option exists to manually import a series of certificates but that's where it ends.
However, according to the Knox Workspace 2.9 IT Admin Guide, it appears that Samsung wants you to have Knox enabled first and use their default mail client for S/MIME or PGP to be an option.
See here:
https://docs.samsungknox.com/KNOX-Workspace-Admin-Guide/Content/knox-workspace-apps.htm
I'd test further but I've rooted my device so I have no access to Knox.
As a workaround, you could convert PGP to PKCS12 and try to import. Alternately, there appears to be some PGP-compatible apps on the PlayStore.
Good luck!

Well... Samsung My Knox has been replaced by Personal Area and even if I configure an e-mail account inside it, the email application doesn't show the "advance" security options.
That's makes me vary mad...
Thank you for pointing that out. I had forgot that 'My Knox' had been retired.
I was pouring through their white papers and what not, and I'm thinking this must've been a business strategy; give consumers a moderate level of security via 'Secure Folders' and leave more advanced features for enterprise environments via 'Knox Workspace'.
See this:
https://docs.samsungknox.com/KNOX-Workspace-Admin-Guide/Content/knox-workspace-apps.htm
The options exists for those utilizing 'Knox Workspace'; even outlines full instructions.
Bearing in mind the samsung side-definition of what a Knox-workspace is, such a feature should be enable even inside the personal area. Idk how can I signaling this to samsung, it seems very weird to me...
Anyway, you gave me material for getting useful information for reporting that to the assistance, at least. Thank you

No problem. Happy to help.
I've also reached out to Samsung myself to inquire further:

Hopefully we can come up with a definitive reasoning.
Update
@DarkIaspis
I have been communicating with Samsung since the start of this thread.
Today they confirmed that PGP was removed, as evidenced by this thread, and only S/MIME will be supported.
I have included a screenshot but have removed any personal details about myself and the contact at Samsung.

Were you able to make it work? I've tried everything but couldn't find a way to encrypt my mail from samsung mail app.
Is there any way you can helpme please?
