Battery indicator shows "Unknown"

Hi guys !
May be someone could help me with this.
Since the original Diamond battery was too "small" I've ordered an enhanced battery, 1800 mAh, from Easy Devices UK.
Everything went fine with my 1.37 ROM.
But then, after upgrading to the 1.93.831.1 WWE ROM, I have the following problem: the battery indicator shows a battery with an exclamation sign on it and when I go to "Settings\System\Power", instead of displaying the remaining battery charge, it only displays "Unknown"!
This happens only with the 1800 mAh battery (with the 900 mAh one, it works fine).
The 1800 mAh battery can be normally charged (but I have to guess when it's full, because I have no indicator) and then normally used (but , I don't know how much is left, which is very unpleasant.
Did anyone of you have this ? Is any way around ?

Exactly the same issue for me (except I have never tested it on original ROM, directly on a new SwiftBL cooked ROM). battery bought from GPSForLess via eBay.
As MateiF said, it's seem it's a ROM issue as battery works correctly on 1.37 ROM.
So, does-it exist a workaround or a special file/driver for new 1.93 ROM ?

I have exactly the same problem with an Offical ROM upgrade!
would be great if someone could help us out, as its a pain in the backside not knowing how long your battery will last for!!

I'm having the same problem with a 2400 mah battery...

Got the same prob but wit added pain onto it
I too got the same above mentioned problem but added pain is that when my battery is over completely then it wont boot my phone on recharging and jus keep the phone on restart again and again.
Then i have to remove my battery off the phone and charge it on some external charger then only my phone can boot up.
Any suggestion for it.

There can be 2 reasons:
-radio isn't good - try 1.15?
- your battery is too weak...
I have weak battery, and if i have only 50% battery power left, than I can not connect to gprs...
But try changing radio first

I think thats because your battery has dropped or leaked, same as me.
When the indicator reached about 50%, my BA restarted. When I use camera to take photos, connect to GPRS, activate wifi, it will shut down automatically (screen turn off, need to restart the BA).
So go get a new replacement battery or you can try to modified your battery as discussed and posted in this forum

my phone is running out of battery very fast

my phone´s battery is empty in less then half a day since a few weeks. before that is least at least two days. sometimes it´s just the whole day in my pocket and it start vibrating when empty. And als my power button stopped working.
I dont know what to do i need help please help me fast!
I tried every thing changing rom and hard resets nothing helps

Do you have a data connection, bluetooth or wifi turned on? These are known to drain your batter. Have you done any modifications to your phone ie changing Rom, Radio?

I have the same problam, my battery is empty within aprox. 4-6hours. The weird thing is that android itself uses about 97% of the battery.
Info: I have changed the default rom,radio - is that the reason?

Try running again stock ROM

i changed rom and radio and did hard spl. i restored to original htc rom (not sure radio, could someone tell me what version is the original) can i remove hard spl completly?

Would buying a new accu fix most of the problem

either get back to old rom or update your radio and Rilphone. Do some research and see for yourself which radio version and Rilphone will suite you best with your cooked rom.
Im using radio 1.17.25.09 and i noticed that my battery life is longer then before with my old 900mah battery.

Updated ROM: Serious battery drain.

Hi,
I recently (yesterday) updated to the new official ROM (WWE:2.53.405.5) from the HTC website. Today I have found a serious drain on my battery. From full over night charge it dropped to 42% after about 1.5 hours of no use, an hour or so later and the battery was flat.
There doesn't seem to be any tasks running in the background, but even if there were a battery life of around 3 hours isnt right.
Has anyone else found this with the new update? Any ideas?

Mine drains like never before also, did you hard reset your device after the flash? I did at least.

Yeah, tried a hard reset. I don't understand what could be causing it. Are you getting the same ridiculous short battery life that I am?

Not really, but sometimes if I charge my battery to 100% then put the charger out it can go down to 10% within an hour, that happend to me a week ago. But yes, my battery drains very fast, when listening to music, browsing or whatever, 10% in less than 20 minutes..

I am experiencing something simular.
In the same configuration and the stock ROM, I got a little over 2 days on a single charge with normal use. Now I am luckly to make it through the day and need to charge my phone every night.
I have improved somewhat by limiting active sync to look for e-mail every 10 minutes instead of "as mail arrives" which tells me that the drain has something to do with the 3G networking.

Assuming the ROM flashed a different radio version, flash back to a different version and see if that improves your battery life.

I try that and this procedure dont change nothing, from some reason new stock rom drain battery so much, i turn off all radio on my one, no radio at all an battery keep going down, about 10% for 1h-1.5h , so i have to back to previous rom 6.5 stock with manila 2.1 the best one for me, average 3 days on battery

There are some battery improvement tricks available and as there are a lot of requests for these, maybe it would be nice if someone could compile a list and sticky post?
(I heard something about the battery polling frequency for example)

I contacted HTC support and they stated that they were receiving more reports regarding battery drainage after the latest ROM update and that they are in the process of investigating what the root cause is.

Same here after flashing of newest radio rom. Now I´m back on 4.47.25.01 and battery life is much better.

The rom you flashed was 2.53.410.3 with the radio 4.49.25.91?
I have that same rom and radio too and my battery drain is simply bad bad bad.
Every reset takes 7 or 10% sometimes of battery too.
This rom with the radio you flashed 4.47.25.01 works better? no more battery drain? That radio version is quite old, from 6.1 rom?

Similar problem on my Topaz.... It has been driving me mad for two months now.
The severe battery drain started after flashing the HTC newest ROM (WWE). The battery started draing fom 100% to 0% (without even warning before switcing off) in less tha 5 hours.
So far I tried the following (by order) all with 3G disabled (GSM only) and all data connections off:
1. New battery bought from HTC -> problem persisted
2. Flashed previous ROM version (WWE 6.5) -> same problem
3. Flashed old 6.1 ROM -> same problem
4. Battery calibration and similar "voodoos" -> problem continues
5. Contacted HTC -> they proposed to do all that I previously did and upon my answer said that I would have to send the mobile to repair (under warranty)
6. Sent mobile to service -> motherboard was replaced (new IMEI) and the poblem continues (mobile returned with Portuguse ROM 6.5)
7. Flashed again the wwE ROM 6.5, calibrated battery, applied all the proposed tweaks after reading hundreds of posts in forums -> same problem
8. Maintained ROM and previus radio version 4.49.25.17 ->still continues
The mobile is always consuming 160 mA (wheb screen is on( jumping sometimes to 330 mA
I am running out of ideas. I am considering trying the ANDROID version for TOPAZ and see if at leat the battery lasts more than 5 hours (to disregard hardware fault)
I still did not try any cooked ROMs
I noticed that in spite of all the tweaks the ActiveSync is not disabled as it keeps writing in the logging file. I wonder if there are other processes running and consuming the battery
Any help (that does not touch the obvious as you can see I already tried plenty) will be appreciated

Regarding Android on Topaz you will get around 6-8hours of moderate usage but we have some problems with the battery meter right now so android will not show you the exact percent of battery. We still need to optimize battery drivers and so on...
Well fast battery drain is usually a common problems among smartphone device running WinMo, Android,... The touchscreen and its backlight are consuming a lot of battery and of course the hardware in it. Regarding WinMo devices fast battery drains occurs when changing driver bases and radio roms. When you change your driver base be sure to calibrate the battery and wait for few days until drivers & battery "settles down". Anyway the other cause may be that your battery is dead. Thats all i know.

The phone worked fine for 7 months on WM 6.1 first and WM 6.5 later, with several ROM upgrades in the between (followed by hard resets) .
The battery used to last 1-1.5 days depending on usage and carrier coverage.
The problem developed recently... And my first step was buying a new battery (which is the one I am using now).
I am now in the process of charging, discharging a bit (20-30%) charging again, to try the "driver settling" theory (I must confess that it is hard to chew but since it cannot get worst....)

Yeah, carrier coverage also affects battery life + sense 2.5 is really battery hungry so maybe thats the point. My battery also lasts ~1-1.5 days.

it all depends on usage, at best your gonna get 2 days max. at worst, 2 hours.

Make a low backround light and it will last for 10 hours

The base for a significant battery time is a stock-rom and the following factors:
- Provider network (phone switches to different broadcast strengh, this depends on how far the mast is away from your phone and wich network type your provider uses)
- turn of the auto-feature for GSM/3G mode and set it to GSM (fix)
- turn of wifi
- turn of bluetooth (even though I have it permanent on, and my battery lasts for 2 days)
- what are you doing with your phone, how long (games, internet, email, phonecalls ...)?
- do you have a permanent GPRS or 3g-data connection? (does it look automatically on the emailserver for new mails?)
- what is your radio version?
- backlight and sleep time

realy bad battery life help me!
ok i have bluetooth off and wifi off
i hardly use it i tryed this and it ran down all the same it must last about 4-5 hours
wich is so not good enough and i turn off gps (3g) and for my back light so i could get the best of my new battery i put them all to minimum and i have auto ajust backlight turned on and dim the backlight if device is locked on
