Hello everyone,
I read somewhere on the web about the program, which automatically makes a backup copy of your bookmarks on google account, but unfortunately I do not remember where it was and how it is called.
The search gives me only the results for applications on SD card bkup/rstr.
Does anybody heard about this?
I'll be grateful for the help, thanks.
Bump...
This would be good...
The only thing that i found yet is Dolphin Browser, it has a google bookamrks sync option.

Does anybody here know where the android browser bookmarks are stored on the file system? I'm hoping to keep a backup of my bookmarks so I don't need to go thru the hassle of entering all my favorite sites each time I have to wipe my phone!
thanks in advance
They're stored in a database in the browser's data directory. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3223060&postcount=199 -- it gives you the command to use to retrieve them from the database, i.e.
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/browser.db "SELECT * FROM bookmarks;"
You can also use the My Backup app (available from the Market) to back them up.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm not really familiar with sqlite, more of a mysql guy personally
The bookmarks table holds the browser history as well.
Bookmarks backup
You should check out MyBackup on the Market. It's a free app that will backup your bookmarks (plus a lot of other things) to your SD card. It works quite well. The restore feature is also very simple.
There is also my bookmarks as well that allows you to import your bookmarks to your phone from your desktop browser.

What I'd like to see (and I can't believe wasn't included in the OS) is automatic syncing of your Android bookmarks with Google Bookmarks. (or ones labeled as mobile in Google Bookmarks)
I had this frustration as well (not being able to sync or backup my bookmarks) so I finally just found a simple website where I could save all of my bookmarks, then I set it as the browser home page. There are tons of websites out there that allow you to store your bookmarks, but the one that I chose was murl.com.
Since I use Firefox I use foxmarks. Which is one of the best programs I have ever used. It sycs all of your bookmarks through firefox on as many computers as you want. They have a mobile site you can bookmark in your browser or steel bookmarks and access all of them. Not perfect but better then nothing.
I use Foxmarks too, and I love it! Every time I use a different computer, I just sync my bookmarks, and everything stays the same on each machine!
Now when I use my phone, I can also just go to Foxmarks and click on any bookmark there to go to a website.
No FireFox here. (Work doesn't allow it for some reason.)
I use the Google Toolbar on both my desktop and notebook pcs at home and at the office to keep track of my bookmarks. I'm still surprised that it doesn't doesn't sync with android though. Seems like about the only Google thing that doesn't at this point.
I just wish someone would write a utility that automatically alphabetized the bookmarks, why this isn't an option by default is annoying. I'm thinking about making it my first Android project.

I don't think it would be hard to sort the list and dump out all the history entries as well. You can do this all with some SQL commands.
Is there anyway to create a shortcut to list all the Bookmarks? I am using Dwang 1.12 Rom.
I have been searching and can not find anything on how to do it. I love the ability to push an icon, it will list all the bookmarks like the bookmark widget in the Hero Rom.
Thanks
i use the live bookmarks app from the market it lets you make an icon that opens a folder with all your bookmarks. Also bookmarkBR from the market backs up and restores bookmarks.

Thanks for the info.
I used this to bookmark a url that was a google maps redirect. I used the adb shell to get on my rooted EVO and ran these commands:
Code:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/browser.db
update bookmarks set bookmark = 1 where url = ''http://goo.gl/maps/XXXX';
This url was already in my bookmarks because I had visited it. but I couldn't bookmark it because I was immediately redirected to google maps.
To list all of your urls:
Code:
select url from bookmarks;
Hi everybody,
I was able to export all my outlook contacts into a csv file and then upload it to google so that i could sync my captivate.
It worked great!
the only thing that i'm having a problem with, is that since they're considered google contacts, it won't let me assign a ringtone to them or even separate my contacts into groups.
Now i know third party apps let me assign ringtones, but its kind of annoying that i'm more limited on options when they're google contacts and not contacts saved either on the SIM or on the phone's memory itself.
Does anyone know a way around this? i've tried playing around with the menus, but there's no option to just save them to the phone.
ok, so after playing around for the last hour or so, i've figured out the answer to my own question.
i exported the .vcf file from gmail, then imported it into the phone and that did the trick!
Hello, does anyone know where android stores the google contacts?
I need to find where the file is
thanks
Alex
Do you mean stored on your Device or on the googleacc?
on googleacc simply login go to mail and then u can access in the left something like "contacts" and there "Starred in Android"...

Hi
I have an HTC Heron with Android 2.1. I used to be able to sync and link the ocntacts on my phone with those who appear on Facebook. However, now I can't and it's very annoying. I have tried a few times to remove and reinstall the Android Facebook app but there is no syncing option within the app, although there should be.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Look in (not in the app, but) the system settings -> accounts/ synchronization (or something similar)
Already tried that with no luck.
yeah you need to add facebook, just as above post Settings>Accounts & Sync> Add Account> Facebook
If still no joy, there is a way of doing it the phonebook/contacts. There should be a little button to the far right on the same line as the persons names is and you can sync them that way. AFIK their is no way to do multiple persons so its one at a time
fairly simple download and install facebook for android apk from google market, add a facebook account via Settings>Accounts & Sync> Add Account> Facebook, authenticate with your account details, select sync with existing contacts, download and install GO Contacts EX from google market.
This will offer to import facebook and sim accounts, click settings, and merge, select name - you can now merge all the duplicate contacts together
You can also add twitter accounts just add the twitter apk from the market , then follow the above steps
Thanks everyone for your help. I have tried removing and readding HTC Facebook Sense. No luck still. I then backed up my entire phone and did a factory reset - no change though. My Facebook widget did not return and I did still cannot get my Contacts to sync with the Facebook app downloaded from the Market, so I am in the same position as before.
All I want to do is to link some of my contacts who are on Facebook with their Facebook profile as I did before with no extra apps. Until very recently, I had the HTC Facebook widget, the Android Facebook widget and syncing contacts. Suddenly, my HTC Widget has mysteriously gone. I've written to HTC to see what they say.
had this problem recently, tried all the usual advice etc. only thing that worked was fcontactssync. you can uninstall it once you've linked everything.
hope this helps..
Thank you will try this next time. However, the day after I sent this message, weirdly my contacts all synced back again to Facebook! They hadn't done this for weeks! However, I did contact HTC and the Facebook for Android Developmer about my problem so maybe that haed something to do with this working again. Someone else I know haad the same problem which corrected on the same day as me!
Anybody have any suggestions? I have tried just about everything and I cannot for the life of me get it to sync properly. I go to accounts and add facebook. I check the sync contacts thing. I then go to contacts and try to link one and while the option for facebook is there it does not show any contacts. I have tried 3rd party syncing apps to no avail. I think it is a facebook issue/setting. Any ideas?
After tinkering around with some stuff I found out the issue is actually with the Facebook app. It seems they removed the feature to sync contacts. After some extensive research I found the latest version that they actually have the option in. The option itself is located by pressing the menu button then going to settings. It is the last option and has the name Sync Contacts. The last version that has this feature that I was able to find can be downloaded here.

I hope this helps somebody else.
