external battery pack - HD2 Accessories

I'd like something like this:
http://chinagrabber.com/2200mah-sli...dock-for-iphone-3g---isolar-battery-2200.aspx
for heavy days... do you think it's possible to have it for HD2?

Yes Please, and make it at least 2700, then it's up to standard. (Rechargeable batteries AA these days can reach 2700. So what you really want to make it count is 2x2700 mAH in a slim formfactor with the HD2's fit and a micro-usb connection. And while they're at it add smart technology so the phone runs on the external battery pack and not the phone's battery (like the mophie juicepack on the iPhone).

The externall HTC battery is incredible, really small and yet it charges the HD2 three times on one charge.

thank you! a picture speaks a thousand words

I got one of these from Taiwan:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vosonic-Battery-Universal-portable-devices/dp/B001J32ZSW
The price at Amazon seems crazy though. It costed me about £70 and I get about 5 charges with it using Hero. I have not yet needed it for HD2 but I guess total charge cycles should be similar.

Zagg Sparq 2.0, extended battery replacement?

Hi guys,
I have bought this interesting gadget and wanted to draw your attention towards it and ask your opinons and views. This post might be helpful to particulary those who doesn't want to compromise the looks of their HD2 with the bulky extended battery "The Camel Hump".
Also I am attaching some pictures of my device. The one that I have is version 1. In version 2.0 one of the 2 USB outputs can give power upto 2000amp while in version 1 the USB outputs are only 1000amp each. So please guys post your views and help others making good choices, or on the other hand save them from pain or waste of money.
Although they advertise on their website only Iphone and Ipad, it does work with HD2 and any other device that can be charged with a USB.

does it work with htc desire? has anyone tried so far.
urh.. i've read about this before.
it took like 9 hours to charge itself and occasionally drain the connected phone battery completely :/ did they fix that? (version 1.0)
how many charges can you get out of that with the hd2 stock battery?
I just bought one of these (with a 50% off coupon ) and it works as advertised. I've only charged the phone once so far, so I can't comment on longevity yet.

T-Mobile HD2.
I bought the official HTC version of this for my TP2 (and now using it for my HD2), and it works great! I just keep it in my bag and whip it out (along with a USB cable) when i'm out and about and the mobile battery is about to give out.
The Sparq 2.0 looks good, especialy as it 6,000mAH, which you should be able to get a few charges of the mobile out of. Does it work? Or do the problems Rhinzo mentioned still exist?
I bought this battery two weeks ago. It does work with the HD2. Based on the capacity of it one would assume it could last up to 4 charges but I find this is not the case, I get about 2 and a half full phone charges out of it. Note that:
- I left the phone plugged in overnight (so longer than a full charge would take)
- I haven' "trained" the battery yet to reach its full capacity
- Efficiency of charging one battery out of another is probably not 100% in any case.
Alternatives which I haven't tried are the powergorilla and minigorilla batteries. They are a whole lot more expensive though.

So which is the Best to buy? If you guys know of any others please post a link I don't know the charge values for the extended internal battery also.
a cheaper suggestion
Might I recommend trying something like this. 2x Battery w/ charger
I bought something similar for my Nexus one and I just rotate the batteries around using about 2 a day (including the oem one).
From my experience, the generic battery holds a bit less charge than the OEM one, but you have two + external charger so you'll always have a battery ready.
And if they are both super crappy you only wasted $10 but a potential to save $50 from the options you are looking at.
Just a suggestion but ultimately up to you. I'm probably going to purchase it right now. (o'yeah, it also took 2-3 weeks to arrive because it's form Hong Kong/China. Not sure about this seller but read the reviews before you buy)
I bought a USB power output box powered by 4AA rechargable batteries. Power box was about $7 & 4 UniRoss HyBrio cells was around $8. Charges my HD2 close to 3 charges (charging from around 10>15%, device on).
Charges all devices I have tested so far (HD2, Desire, Touch Pro, N97mini, N95)
For the money it is very good, compact & cell quality is your choice & obviously replaceable which makes this option fully serviceable unlike sealed power box options .
Best External Battery Charger
I have two portable external power solutions. The first is pre made by Energizer, holds 4 AA batteries even lithium and is for short term, low demand situations. This uses I-Go adapter tips
The second is made of several components that are easy enough to obtain. Bendix-King radio has an accessory called a clamshell, it holds 9 AA batteries and can replace the OEM battery, an enterprising firefighter created a block of aluminum that connects to the top and has a hole in it that will fit a 12-volt accessory/charger. The next item is an I-Go 12-volt charger and adapter tips for your specific device, I use the USB adapter and the charging/data cable that came with the device. Lastly you will need AA batteries. I pick up a package of 36 at Home Depot for about $15. I have used this system for a while now, most notably for 3 cross Atlantic trips (22 hours each). The last trip I watched 16 hours of movies on my HD2 and used 2 sets of batteries. This system won’t charge and run an Acer Aspire, but will charge/run a Redfly or the HTC Shift 9500. I don’t know the mAh for this, but know it will work for a long time. I use regular alkaline batteries, the lithium batteries got uncomfortably warm on larger power drains.
You can search the net for Bendix-King Clamshell (beware BK has an avionics division that is separate from the radio division). The Clamshell is even available in different colors. The I-GO is available at Radio Shack, and AA’s are available everywhere.
I have included pics for clarity…. I hope.
(I made the HD2 holder as a prototype but it is still holding up well)
I got these two items from amazon when the usb port on my phone broke. The total cost was 35$ with prime shipping. The good thing for the charger was, it can charge any standard 3.7V Li-Ion batteries, not just the HD2's battery.
PowerGen Multi-Purpose Universal Rapid Battery Charger for Use with HTC Inspire 4G , HD7 , HD2 , Surround
Htc HD2 Extended Cell Phone Battery (2400 mAh) with Battery Door
External Battery Charger
I have this same model, but my only cost 5 euros!
They are very good chargers!
I charge my hd2, or any other phone w android, using a China brand tablet I bring about. It works through USB charging though. Better than not having any battery at all.

Defy+ external battery/power bank/portable charger

this has been real hell finding information about whether this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Powerocks-p...y_Chargers&hash=item3cc55ca8b0#ht_4645wt_1163 is compatible with my Motorola defy+ (note custom roms, Switching from time to time, Currently on WIUI ICS) and other information such as how long does it last and etc.
has anybody used this?
is it worth the money and how does it translate to battery % on my defy+.
any other feedback?
and maybe other recommendations (with that price region)
and is there a thing like this that uses AA batteries, if so, how many will it take to charge my Defy+
thanks ahead
EDIT:
what's the proper name for that thingy? because this thing has wayyyy too many names,
power bank, external battery, portable charger, portable battery, extra battery. and many many many more!!! this is why it's complete hell finding information.
what's the real and most proper name for it?
Just a single word 'AVOID'
i don't usually like to be disrespectful, but.
you sir, have convinced me with your long list of arguments and good points of reason to support your advice.
could you please explain, why?
Ok. Here it goes.
I have used these chargers long back, I think around a year back. It barely charges 15% of your mobile battery (I was using a Samsung Galaxy Apollo at that time which had a 1500mah battery) with a single AA cell which I think is totally not worth.
I hope this is enough for you to get a fair idea
so, you're saying that the Portable chargers that use AA batteries are bad, or are you saying all these portable chargers are bad and charge too little?
if you're saying that all the portable chargers are bad and charge too little, then i would have to say that it depends on how much mAh the charger can hold.
say i get the 2600 mAh charger to charge my Defy+ (think around 1700 mAh) when it's completely out, i think that i will charge fully at least once (say around 1000 mAh at MOST! is lost because of the charging procedure)
i'm only talking about the AA battery based chargers. I don't have any idea about other powerpacks as I've never used it.
1 AA battery for 225 mAh!?!?!?!? that's awesome!!! would be great for camping trips, you get like 12 AA batteries (or more, depends on how long you plan to be away from charging your phone normally) and you can even play in the evening or even watch porn if you got Data signal!
i'm still probably going for the normal one, and maybe i'll get an extra charger that uses AA batteries in-case i go camping somewhere.
can people please give feedback on whether it's good enough? why are there only 2 posters?
I think that it works just seen a duracell one in a store near me wich holds 4 AA batts, i think on buying it and fillit with some 4 NiMh AA acumulators rated at 2700 mAh each, just think about it thats 10800 mAh in a portable charge, that will charge my Defy battery at least 5 times even with an extra burning that the charge does.

NiMHs are 1,2V which means, 2700mAh hold 2700mAh * 1,2V= 3,24 Wh which is the same as 11,664 kJ
The Defy battery holds 1500mah at 3,7V --> 5,5 Wh = 19,98 kJ
Taking efficiency in count you might be able to load your Defy with two fully charged NiMHs once, but i`d rather expect that two are not enough.
As for the that eBay-offer: The voltage is given as 5,1V. With 2600mAh that would mean 13,2 Wh. But i rather believe they are stating the capacity at 3,7V for marketing reasons. That would mean 9,62 Wh. That would allow you to recharge about one and a half time.

So someones after advice on portable power when away from the mains?
Ive been using a New trent imp1000 to keep things going, its a li-ion rechargable powerpack with a capacity of 11000mah and it keeps my Defy going for 4 days.
I also have a total of three batterys for my defy, and a universal li-ion external charger, called a cam caddy, although its designed to charge camera batterys from a 5 volt supply it also quite happily charges up the battery for my defy as well.
So for extreme use i can have a battery in use in my phon, plus a spare with me, and back at base ( or just overnight) a battery on charge in the cam caddy.
If im in an area with access to mains i will take the imp1000 and its charger to top up where and when i can.
I also have a universal USB charger with swapable plugs that fit all major power outlets worldwide.
And to top it all off a USB AA battery charger that will ( slowly) charge up 4 AA batterys form a solar panel, or from a USB input ( faster) , or output 5V through the USB out put port.
This little set up has kept me going for 14 days with no access to mains power ( except for a few bits here and there - 20 minutes at a bus station/railway station and so on) , keeping my phone going (defy) a high powered AA cree LED torch, a camera ( via spare battery+cam caaddy) and an mp3 player. the trick is careful battery management - on the defy turn off everything when not in use, except the ability to receive calls and number your batterys for ID, and the same for cameras etc etc.

i think 11000 mAh is a little too much for me, it may be good for camping trips and etc, but i don't think i'm gonna buy something that (probably) big and (probably) expensive. most of the use of the external charger will be when i'm out with friends for a long time, or say after school i spontaneously decide to go out with friends before getting home (unfortunately a 1 hour drive from friends city to mine) so i need an a portable charger so i won't get bored on the way back, my battery lasts a school day, if i go somewhere that is not home after school, it won't last.
about the extra batteries, are those original from motorola? if not, are they as good as the original? are they worth getting?
The batterys are official motorla ones, as i b ought a cheap un official one and that had issues ( wouldnt show the charge level on the defy )
The battery pack is a "new trent imp1000" which costs £30 from amazon.
I also have a dock for the defy in which my phone usualy sits, at the back of this dock is a slot for an extra battery, left overnight this will charge both my Defy ( with battery inside) and the extra battery in the slot, this is plugged into a dektop pc where some of the USB sockets are still powered up ( giving out 5v) even when the desktpop p.c is off
supdealer offers nice portable power bank
as portable external battery/power bank/portable charger, An ebay seller called supdealer sells a nice one. You can have a look.
It may help you.
I have that new Trent battery, its perfect almost same size as defy.

If you really want true power on the go, buy a YOOBAO power pack, the 11200 mAh one.
It is really a beast and is really charging a defy several times before going empty.

Yes, all iPhone compatible USB-Chargers are compatible to our Defy and other new mobiles.
Why? EN_62684: Common External Power Supply (EPS)
Why would I use Li-ion instead of AA Cells (NiCd,NiMH or NiZn)?
Higher Energy Density!
Another benefit of Li-ion is the discharging charakteristika (sorry for german captions).

[REVIEW] 1900mAh Portable Back-Up Battery for LG Optimus 2x P990

i've recently bought this item from e-bay, so here is the review... pictures attached...
Specifications from e-bay:
- Connector: Micro USB
- power status led indicator (capacity/full)
- fits all phones with micro USB charging port
- capacity 1900 mAh
- input voltage: 5.25V~0.50V (500 MA max)
- output voltage 5.0V~0.50V (800 MA max)
- charge Time: around 2-4 hours (specified by seller)
My review
Pro's
1. portability (light, doesn't take much space in the pocket, etc.)
2. extra capacity
3. quick phone charge (from 47% to 100% in approx. 80 minutes with still more than a half power in external battery to spare)
4. can be charged via micro USB cable separately (and has another, bit larger usb input port for a different USB cable - don't know the exact name of that cable but i have it for my mem. card USB reader )
5. portable battery charged itself to full capacity in 2 hours via computer USB port (might be quicker if connected directly to charger, didn't try that yet)
6. it feels solid (i think it would resist if dropped from the table)
7. price (around 10$ US + free shipping from China)
Con's
1. when connected to the phone - it feels loose (it's ok if your phone sits on the table or any flat surface but it's not ok if you hold the phone in your hand - feels like it's gonna disconnect and drop)
2. doesn't come with USB cables (but that's not a big problem for me)
Conclusion
I think it's a good buy for an extended power source/emergency charger when you're not close to any other power source.
What may bother you the most - will its full capacity last at least year or two since it's not a genuine LG battery... since i don't travel much, i think it's ok for me
Those also are only around 950mah, i took 2 of them apart a few months ago.
One thing I don't like about it is a rigid micro-USB connector. I hate two large pieces of hardware connected like that with no flexibility and no extra mechanical support -- it's a sure way to damage your connector eventually. The cable would be so much better...

as i've said in my post - it's ok if your phone sits on a flat surface...
i didn't buy this piece so i could carry it around attached to my phone
the main problem with alot of these portable battery backups is the capacity.
they may state whatever they state, but in reality after 1 month of no use it does start to degrade. the longer the shelf life the lower its max capacity.
i bought my O2x only weeks after it was available, i still use the stock battery that i got with the phone over 18 month for sure now. and i can still get a decent 1 1/2 - 2 days out of it for it to fall to 10% before charging again.
i would rather have a 2nd official battery with a backup charger if i needed swift changing and long life.
but i would also only consider a portable battery charger if it was also capable of covering my other electronics, like my PSP (or a hot girl that needs her phone charged on a long train trip ^.^
i would go for the 10,000mAh about the size of the phone again a little thicker, but have a collection of connections for different electronics.
also trying to find a decent solar panel with high gain, that portable and probably foldable for storage. times im in the middle of nowhere, or just at a three day gig, the sun is handy for those times when a plug just aint there.
How much time it takes to charge fully the stock battery?

Thanks for compiling this. I emailed Anker about the Astro Pro2 ad unfortunately it does not support Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. They said that PowerIQ is different and doesn't charge as fast. I think the only ones that will do Fast Charge are ones certified as such.
That being said, I'm in for the Aukey.
I've been looking to buy the Aukey but its unavailable from Amazon right now
is the usb cable has to be different as well? couldnt be a normal usb cable to do fast charging??

~ This has * Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 *
http://ape-battery.en.alibaba.com/pr...k_MP5200Q.html
...that is per 3000 unit orders.
I have a Mophie, Powerbrick XL (12,000 ah) or something or other. Not cheap but it puts out 2.4X2.4 (two usb outputs) simultaneously. As I said not cheap but telling the ol lady her phone will have to die while she watches mine charge on the airplane is simply not a place I want to visit.

I believe it has to be a "charge and sync" cable. I have some charge only cables that came with small micro-USB powered devices that fail to fast charge, but a generic USB cable does. The charge-only cables don't need to pass data because the devices they came with only use them for power so it looks like you have to have the data lines intact.
I also got some nice micro-USB cables at Best Buy that have nice LED lights in them. The Pt brand one with just an LED light at the micro-USB end was able to fast charge, but got extremely hot. The other brand (Modal) that had LED lights all along the length of it failed to fast charge. I'm guessing that either the drain of all of those LEDs or the fact that they are powered by a chip on one end of the cable means that they force the USB connection to only supply the basic power. Both are going back to BB.
I found a nice USB "charge and sync" cable at Walgreens that spring coils into a housing (the round housing has a regular USB plug coming out one side and a micro USB plug coming out the other end and if you pull on them they extend equally - pull again and they retract together to lie flush with the housing). That one does fast charge. It is replacing (along with a cheap 2.4amp car charger that was almost as fast as an QC2.0 charger) an old cheap retractable car charger that I used to use on trips that failed to even keep up with the power drain of navigation on the S6edge or my S5. The retractable cable is not listed on Walgreens web site and I found it behind the photo counter in a bin of USB chargers and cables.

Can you post a picture of the cable? Is there a P/N or UPC that you can post? I checked my local Walgreens and no luck finding.

E-filliate brand Retractable Charge & Sync Cable for Micro-USB
Model #1311653 (?)
UPC: 8 26341 02003 9
The Walgreens web site shows other E-filliate brand cables in bright colors, but not this one. It was not in the case with the other phone accessories, it was behind the photo counter in a plastic bin full of an assortment of colorful chargers and cables that looked like the kind of thing you'd find on the counter next to a checkout stand. It's only 2 feet long fully extended, but it packs nicely. Unless you are looking for something that packs away nicely without tangling, I would think you might find some nicer and cheaper cables elsewhere, although this one was only $10.
I'd buy the Anker. Can't go wrong with them.
My own issue is I have too many of them!
Got the 15Ah on sale for $30 earlier this year.
That new one is 20Ah, ridiculous capacity!
But needed on excursions with ipads, etc.
Not a big deal if it doesn't charge as fast. I'm tempted to buy it and use galaxy charge current and compare rates with the included wall charger. Of course current doesn't mean squat if we don't know what rail it's on, i.e. 1.5A at 9V is better than 2V at 5V.
EDIT: How about LUDICROUS capacity for same price as the older version?

I have 3 different quick chargers around and none of them charge at a different rate with the different cables I have laying around except for the long cables. I use them generically between the chargers, pc, various devices.
As to the long cables (3 plus meter) charge times slow down on the few I've tried. Not huge but noticeable.

There are 2 things to note here. The phone will say whether or not it is fast charging and it will also show a prediction for how long it will take to get 100%. You can actually get a reasonably quick "time to full" estimate on a basic charger that supplies higher amperage, but I believe you will only get the "10 minutes for 4 hours" boost from an actual QC2.0 accessory that successfully negotiates the QC protocol with the charger. The QC2.0 protocol involves not just higher amperage, but higher voltage, which likely makes the difference for that boost.
So, when you say you have 3 different "quick chargers" around, do you mean "officially Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 accessories", or a charger that is higher amperage than normal and so uses the words quick and charge on the box.
Having said that, I've seen basic 2+ amp chargers that are fairly common where the phone predicts a total charge time to 100% that is very close to what I get on the adaptive charger or whenever the phone claims it is fast charging (only ever on an official QC2.0 accessory with the right cable). I think the only real difference is offering the initial boost of 4 hours for 10 minutes, but in the long run "actual QC 2.0" is not that much better than any high amperage charger for a full charge because the charge rate is not linear as the phone approaches 100%. This is the same reason why DC charging for EVs never lists the time to full because they'll get you to 50-80% in half an hour and then take another 2 hours to get you to 100%. The speed enabled by the high voltage is only an initial boost and matters little for a full charge.
The reason I would want an actual QC2.0 charger for the car or for an external battery pack is that I often jump in the car for a 10 minute trip when I'm getting low and it would be nice to get a significant charge during that time. With an external battery, having QC2.0 would mean less time having to keep the phone tethered to a brick. Otherwise, if you are only looking for a full charge then an official QC2.0 vs a high amperage charger isn't that big of a deal.
I'm an engineer. I have three qualcomm quick charge 2.0 chargers, one Oppo charger with their competing (and better ) technology, and uncounted random chargers from unknown past phones. Some more potent and some less. Yes, each of those qualcomm quick chargers will respond to the embedded controller on the phone and provide quick charging, the phone will note such when plugged in and notify to that effect. Yes, they make quick charge 2.0 car chargers and I also have one of those and yes it charges at the same rate as the 120 chargers in the house.
I'm a bit of a slut when it comes to these things.
That's great. Keep in mind that the only reason I asked is that there are plenty of packages out there that use the term "quick charge" in a generic sense and so I usually specify QC2.0 when I mean QC2.0 to differentiate.
But, back to the original question - you were indicating that all of the USB cables you have tried all seemed to charge at the same rate. I will reiterate that I have found micro USB cables that do not pass QC2.0 and the phone will back off to a nominal rate when they are used. Usually the cable is special in some way, for example:
two cables that I believe came with my Chromecast - they have one of those "ferrite core" style bulges in the wire (pictured below) and were only originally intended to provide minimal USB power to the Chromecast (no data)
a Modal LED lighted "charge and sync" cable from Best Buy - since the LEDs animate to show power flow, there are obviously some electronics in the plug/wire to sequence them, and whether or not that was the reason, they did in fact prevent QC2.0 from engaging (the phone did not show a "fast charging" status).
As such, I'd look for cables that include both "charge and sync" (most do) and I'd avoid anything active in the cable, like an LED light. Having said that, the Pt brand lighted cable (also from BB) that has just a solid white LED only at the micro USB end did seem to allow fast charging, but it got very hot so I didn't really like it in the end - but it does show that there are some non-passive USB cables that will still work with QC2.0.
Chromecast cable:
I went to a couple of Samsung shops here in Taiwan and they were out of those new chargers for fast charge. They were only selling the regular chargers from before. Salesmen also said he heard something about the new chargers causing damage to the smartphone (sensors). He was not sure he said but has heard about this issue. He could not confirm for sure said but he was pretty sure.

Frys has a large selection of retractable micro USB cables. I picked up a 2-pack of 3 foot cables yesterday and the phone indicates "fast charging" on them:
http://www.frys.com/product/6630234
Longer than the Walgreens cable and cheaper for 2 of them, but the cables on the Walgreens model seem a little beefier (which is likely why they only fit 2' of cord in the same retractable package).
I bought the Anker without reading the description well enough. :silly: It arrived and is almost the size of a Tablet! I returned it. So, don't be "underachieving Rob Lowe" and carefully READ before you buy!

I got the Anker E6 and it's a beastly size, but it completely charged my S6, from 5%, in ONE HOUR! I'll deal with the weight!
It's not the weight - I want pocket sized.
