LED Status notification for SMS/Voice messages

Hi
When the phone is in standby it flashes the left LED to show connection with the network. The manual states:
"Shows Green and Amber lights for HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE/GSM/GPRS standby, message, and network status as well as for notification and battery charging status. Shows a flashing red light when the battery level reaches 5% or lower."
But doesn't state what colour is shown for what and I've only seen a flashing green LED. The description is a joke in the manual as it doesn't really tell you anything, and I have searched the PDF version for LED and found no other information dry.gif
I want to be able to see I have had a text message/voice message left without having to turn the display on, how do we do this?
Regards
Phil
Well based on the Wizard the led on the right that normally flashes green will flash orange if you have a txt or missed phone call.
Hi
If it does it doesn't look that much different in colour to be really obvious, not to my eyes anyway.
Can we change the colours, perhaps through a registry setting?
Regards
Phil
Hi
I've resolved this to my liking with a small application I've written, it's free for anyone else who wants some control of the way the notifications are flashed on the Kaiser.

Great little app Phil. I use my phone as a pager so its nice not to have to turn it on to see if you missed a message.
It looks awesome! Installing it now. Thx!

hi,
Great tool!, but ehh it doesnt work on my Dutch version TyTn2.
AMBER colour doesnt seem to work.
So does this mean your tool is made for an English version?
Amber doesn't seem to work for me either and I'm on the English version.

I tried the app on my AT&T Tilt and while the LEDs perorm according to the app, I found that the app caused my speakerphone to engage on every call I placed. I deleted the app and no more speakerphone problem.
strange...on my tilt it didn't work. I could change the power color but couldn't get the right side light (bluetooth side) to do anything
Is anyone interested in this program/functionality enough to continue developing it? I'd really like to see the ability to set missed SMS to the red LED like missed calls. I'd also like to see the solid LED function working again during charging. I'm not sure if the original author is still developing this program but it has a lot of potential. Thanks.

Hi,
I am very interested in this functionality. I am actually slightley colorblind and it is impossible for me to see the difference between the red, amber and green LED, because it is so small and just flashing up for a very short time.
I wish I could use the blue LED for missed incoming calls or a faster blinking frequency would be great.
Regards,
JTGBDR
yes indeed
I want to change the blinking speed of the amber light when an incoming sms is received or missed call..
I had this on my mio a701, so handy
Now its almost 3 sec to see if you have an missed sms , its too long...
Issnt there a simple reg hack to increase the interval?

I Already asked in this board for an redevelopment of this app... the idea is genious, but the original developer, doens't seem to continue his work....
So it would be really nice, if someone could code it properly.. the current app has some matrue issues and is in my opinion not really usable.

How to set glowing wheel always on?

I am a new htc diamond user and found that the lighting scrolling wheel is kind of cool when the phone is charging.
So I am just wondering if there is a way to set the glowing wheel always on even it is not charging?
Thanks!
Why would you? less precious battery life!!!
well, i'm a sucker for lights in what shape they even come, i would serious consider to offer some battery-time for a constantly glowing "wheel"
Just call your phone and don't answer it...the wheel will light up when you miss a call or have a message!
or try "nueled" if you can find it.

Weird.
I just tried it on the Bepe light rom, and there I cant use it at all.

[MOD] Use Button's Backlight as Notification

Hey!
If you guys really really want the MOD, let's do something about it. AND I NEED ALL SUPPORT FROM EVERYONE.
Read Carefully.
I'm not sure if you've heard of PSX emulator or not. The author, zodttd, has started the project because he saw
there was a petition ( Here ) to have me bring PSX, N64, and the VLC media player to the Android platform. With over 1800 signatures I started work on PSX a few days ago.

So what I am thinking is, we should do the same thing too!
I have begun a petition. Now all I need is you guys to sign it. It's a really simple process.
Once we have enough signatures, we can show it to mods from other communities.
Petition
Thanks,
Clay
have you sent any emails to app developers or anything like that before you post a petition? I think you may be jumping the ball a little bit here... go ask a few developers first.. Im pretty sure someone might have the time (or knowledge to help you learn how to implement your idea...
doesnt seem like it should be that hard to link the led notification and a button backlight... they have done it with trackballs...
As soon as I get my vibrant I shall start work on this.. Someone will probably get it working before me but I shall give it a shot..
Petition is a nice idea, but no need for it. Im pretty sure once the vibrant (galaxy s) gains more popularity, the programs an mods will start to come.
wow making the button backlight as notifications is actually a really good idea.

Thirded. Great idea.
This would be fantastic. Good idea.
can't wait to see progress.. also, is there a charging light? if not can there be a mod to have one of the buttons (i rather see the search icon as a charging LED)
Thinking about getting a Vibrant, and this mod would make the purchase that much easier.
All for it!!!
Make it happen
Im still on the fence if i should buy this phone because im so used to my g1's hardware keyboard and the lack of an led notification is kind of turning me away from this awesome beast. i spent maybe half an hour playing with one today at t-mobile...if this gets done maybe ill get a vibrant and overcome my attachment to hardware keyboards lol.
a cool idea would be to have someone make the backlight for the buttons light up sequentially left to right!

Even in stock form you will not regret the purchase of this device I love this device
Agreed. This thing is amazing. Came from a G1 and the lack of hw keyboard isn't a big deal for me (and I used the hw kb constantly!). No led notification is odd, but if we can do this button backlight mod....
What about AMOLED?
I don't get it-
Why are we looking for workarounds like lighting the menu buttons when there's a Super AMOLED screen to play with? Since there's no backlight to lose precious mWh's from the battery every time you want to show a light pixel, shouldn't a simple white text/pattern/indicator drawn on the screen with the rest of it black/off work as needed? Make it flash, make it off most of the time like a normal indicator, make sure that notification is bright, perhaps make it customizable, and bingo!
It might even be more efficient than some silly LED somewhere...

and whoever mentioned the screen idea, its deff not bad either imo but idk how thatd compare to the backlight idea battery-wise...i mean maybe youre right it might take less battery to flash the screen rather than the menu buttons

that doesn't sound bad at all, something like the battery icon that the screen shows when the phone is powered off but is charging. have a notification icon show on the screen and have it blink at certain values
yes sir. i'm all for it as well!
That sounds like a great idea. And different buttons could be set for different notifications. Like say the Menu button could light up if you have a new text, the Home button if you have a new E-mail, and so on.
I used to do a lot of Java coding, but am pretty rusty. Tomorrow I'm going to start looking into implementing any of the ideas mentioned here. Already installed the android sdk, just need to learn how to write android applications

External indicator LED?

I just got my HD7 last night and it seems that the device does not have an external notification LED. I've tried searching through the specs for the device but I can't a definitive answer.
Does the HD7 have a notification LED? And if so, do I need to enable it in settings to illuminate when I get Email and Texts?

Nope, it doesn't have it i was as shocked as you, it has the light for when you battery is low but that it.
I mean common who needs notification lights, the general purpose of this phone is face book or to buy songs as others who feel the light is not necessary will tell you.
I freaking hate that it doesn't have it.
That sucks.
That could actually be a deal breaker for me. I need the phone for work but my department head doesn't want people "always checking their phones" during meetings. The indicator LED is a perfect solution for this because I can just leave the phone on the table and just watch for the light to illuminate.
Ugh.

actually it is a notification light, it just doesn't notify you of new texts or emails, but try ringing your mobile and not answering... that's right it'll flash for a missed call, how hard would it of been to add the feature for texts and emails?

Hmm, mine does not, when I have a missed call, no light I only see the light when battery is low or charging.
Yep mine works for missed calls...im sure someone will come up with something so we can change this. That is if anybody ever does any work on altering WP7.
Yep, missed calls and charging, sure it does it for something else, but cant think right now. Also, they might change the LED notifications in the update - I live in hope.

Ambient display is useless

I found that ambient display is useless.
I was thinking that whenever I got notification, the ambient display will lit the screen and then OFF ... then lit ... then OFF.
You know, kind of asking attention.
It is NOT.
It lit ONCE, then OFF forever, until I pick up the phone (of course).
The problem with this, if I leave the phone on my desk for quite long, I won't know if there was notification arrived, unless I pick up the phone.
So, what's the use of this ambient display?
Damn, LED notification would be much useful!

So you can either see the notification come in first time when it lights up. Or you can quickly pick the phone up to see if there are any notifications without it fully waking up.
LED is easier though!
I prefer they don't lit it on and off constantly because it is distracting when you are in a meeting and it drains your battery. Though having an option would be nice
Yeah, I agree it is a useless battery wasting feature (though the impact to battery is minimal). Thankfully the LED can be enabled with Light Flow even though that is flawed as well since the app will randomly get killed and the light won't work.
Ambient Display would be perfect if it flashed continuously until you check it and if it worked in priority mode, which it doesn't if you have priority mode set up like the old silent mode. If you don't want your phone making noise or vibrating but still need to see notifications it is pretty worthless.
you are dead on sir.

I was told Google is moving away from using led notification, but yet they designed a phone? with one built in but totally useless at this point. Hopefully the next update will address this.
Mine flashes continually until I check things... Every ten seconds or so. It is wonderful... Not sure what is up with your guys' one time notifications...
ambient display is alrite.... It doesn't work that well though. It does not consistently work when you pick up the phone. I would much rather have them activate the LED since it's already there.

in all fairness, Moto made the phone, whether for Android Silver or whatever other reason, it wasnt designed ground up with Google or originally planned as a Nexus.
I like ambient. Works great for me. and being an Amoled display, only the pixels being used light up, so battery is minimal
users report otherwise.

Does the device wake up from deep sleep for it? If yes it sure does suck a lot of battery. Especially if it is supposed to flash up in intervals to remind you of the notification.

I just tested it... it flashes up every 30 seconds or so. As soon as as you click on it the screen is on without any delay. So I guess it screws your battery hard by making it wake up each time? It would mean that as soon as you have a notification your device would wake up every 30 seconds.
I can't get Lightflow to work at all. Do you need a kernel that has LED support?

Rooted and use root access for the LED activated in Lightflow.
Lightflow screws up ambient tough. It constantly flashes as if it has an notification, even if it only shows the clock. This WILL kill your battery in my opinion...
Led notification will drain batttery fast?
Via my NeXus™ 7FHD on XDA Premium app
I actually like it more than Active Display. Active was much more sensitive to movements which for really annoying.

I don't know what settings you set to make it do that.
Light Flow doesn't do that here. Cooperates fine with Ambient.
I know there are people (Lightflow Dev) who are working on getting the built-in led working, and I think that's great. I wonder if there are any devs working on making Ambient Display more useful...? I'm going to shut off the Ambient Display today and mess around with an app I used to use on the Galaxy S called NoLed. It puts dots or icons on the screen and could notify me of anything... might be the ticket here.
