Is there something I can use to lock specific applications? Such as my photos and messages? I have root if it's something like that. I really hope there is some way to do this.
app lock
There's a home replacement app called appdesktop4 u can password protect apps on the homescreen, it puts all your apps on the home screen actually, like the iphone. Works good, but after 5 days u need a keycode which I lost after I bought it lol and don't know how to get it so I don't use it, and there's a few vault apps in the market that u can hide photos and videos that work good also.
How about the "pm" command?
pm disable packagename
pm enable packagename
where packagename is the proper package name, i.e. com.someone.someapp.
The command "pm list packages" will show you all the packages installed on the phone.
You can hide folders by renaming them with a . infront of the name. so rename 'pictures' to '.pictures'.
Good for hiding stuff that you don't want anyone else to see. Although, that doesn't really lock them, just makes them invisible.

I have had an android phone for about a month and continue to find new ways of doing things...
Not sure if you were aware of this...
If you have LauncherPro, there is a shortcut menu option called "Activities" that will display and let you create a shortcut icon from items inside programs and SETTINGS.
That means, you can create an icon for MobileAP, Wifi selection,VPN, etc.
Using this one step further, you could add these shortcuts into FolderOrganizerLabels and display a label(folder) on your home screen(s).
I am stoked now because I can get to so many settings individually without having to do the extra 5 steps to get there.
I am super stoked as well because I created a folder specifically for BTEP ssh client shortcuts to access my firewalls, servers and switches.
------
I know the last few builds of Launcherpro have been bogged down due to new widgets (twitter). But I don't think i can get any happier.... well unless samsung fixes my gps!

Yeah, the activities shortcuts are nice... I was able to create one to the GPS Service menu as well,so I can jump right in and do a GPS Test and/or clear out the GPS data very easily. I have found that whenever my GPS hangs, clearing out the data does seem to help and this makes it super-easy (no need to dial the number!)
Also, like you, I used this feature to create a shortcut to "MobileAP" ... very nice!

How did you do that? Never mind. I figured it out. I needed a little patience for the screen to arrive.
I too love LauncherPro Plus. I use Smart Shortcuts to put apps in folders on the desktop. You can apply any icon you want. It also handles folders for bookmarks and contacts. I'll check out FolderOrganizer as well.
Thanks!
I believe ADW Launcher has the same feature. You just need to choose "Custom Shortcut" instead of "Shortcut" and it will allow you to choose your activity. Haven't played with it much, but was curious about what it did so tried to create my own shortcut. Worth some more investigation, certainly.

Not wanting to cry wolf, but can you describe how you did this? I looked at the scripts menu, but it seems to want a script that has already been written.
thanks so much for posting this. i was trying to figure out how to create a link to my call log on the home screen, now there is one with launcherpro.

Hi -- no script is needed, you just add an activity shortcut.
i am dropping folderorganizer.. it is getting way to slow. Trying smart shortcuts now.
Pretty basic questions whether i need an app that does this or a workaround i just want to use my biometrics without a dam screenlock? Such as samsung pay, samsung pass, my bank apps and others. Dam google phone arent adding feature like before they are going back in time.
Except without root.

Actually you can without root. Set your biometrics normally with a password or a pin then go back to lock screen options and change it to swipe or no lock. And from there you will get a warning and it will have 2 options. One is remove data and the other is keep it. If you keep it it will work with the other apps. I have PayPal installed and I did the same thing also Samsung Pay.
And I'm not rooted using stock

Well then you might need root access. I don't have root access but it works for me just fine so im not sure.
use a secure settings app to set automatic lock delay to something ridiculously high like 540000(several days)
and turn off "lock instantly with power key".
normally you're limited to 30 minutes by the settings app, but if you use a secure settings app you can manually change it to something much higher.
using this setup you no longer need a pin coming from standby(lockscreen is skipped completely) unless you don't touch your phone for several days.
you'll still need a pin when turning on your phone or accessing lockscreen settings, but that's not something you'll do multiple times a day.
this does require ADB(to grant the hidden "secure settings" permission to the secure settings app once) but doesn't require root.
You can't do it anymore. AFAIK, Samsung changed this with the Jan or Feb patch. There's an article on sammobile that highlighted the change.
Edit : Here's the article : https://www.sammobile.com/news/on-o...ed-and-stored-only-with-a-secure-screen-lock/

I don't use any screenlock etc on my phone.
What i have done is place all my relevant apps eg banking, password manager etc in the Secure folder
(knox protected) If i want to use them i use fingerprint to unlock my secure folder.
Then i use fingerprint, to log into my banking app or use fingerprint for my password manager.
Further, I only install the relevant app (Google Play) that i want, inside secure folder. So no duplication of app.

I found a small loophole if you have a bluetooth device. You can turn smart lock on and have it stay unlocked as long as its connected to that device be it headset, smartwatch, etc. You can also do it based on location.

Hi @thedicemaster this sounds like a great solution. I have been trying, but can't get it to work. Can you tell me more on how to do this? Appreciate it!
EDIT: Nvm, I managed to do it
Delete me
It's been years already but I have a way to get it to work without root without installing any apps. I hope it helps some one.
You will need adb and usb debugging on. Open cmd / terminal and execute these 2 commands:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure lock_after_timeout_rollback 86400000
adb shell settings put secure lock_screen_lock_after_timeout 86400000
86400000 = 24 hours in miliseconds. You can change to a number that you find suitable.
This secure settings will survive after reboot so you only need to do once.

I was trying to figure out how to disable Hisearch and found the package for it. I have successfully deleted it. Hisearch is no longer present when I swipe down on a blank space.
It does not seem to be having any adverse affect on my phone.
1) Download ADB
2) Enable USB Debugging on your device
3) Connect to computer and verify your device is listed with command "adb devices"
4) Type "adb Shell"
5) Type "pm list packages", this will show you all packages installed on phone.
6) Type "pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.search"
7) you should see the word "Sucess" pop up
8) enjoy having the utterly useless, ****ing annoying search gone!

No.
Thank You !!!!!!!! Works like a charm
Is this the same. Settings app. Smart assistance, hitouch, toggle off.
This may be wrong. Was thinking of something else.
It's a different thing, Hisearch is incredibly irritating. Will be trying this soon, as I've been looking for a way to disable it. Thanks for posting OP.
After a few days still no issues from deleting Hisearch. I will say it's safe to get rid of.
I can confirm this worked great for me too, thank goodness as it was driving me mad. Stock launcher is actually OK, except for this.
Would this work for other Huawei apps? If so, maybe we should get together a list of "safe to remove" apps?
Is there a way to extract a program somewhere in case its removal does have a negative impact? I would be willing to start removing some of the bloat but I'm a little worried that I remove something the rest of the system relies on

You can make a back-up and then restore. Or a factory reset will re-install everything.
This is awesome. Thank you.
A quick and painless way that anyone can use to get rid of this annoying non-feature.
Thank you very much for the clear instructions...
Let's hope an update doesn't re-install it!
Will give this a go later. Thanks OP ??
One question to someone who already uninstalled HiSearch.
When you go to the camera, is there still the possibility to scan things (regognizing Brands, or scanning QR-Codes)?
Or is this also gone with this package?

Still there. That is a separate package. Hivision vs Hisearch
Worked perfectly for me . Finally able to use scrollable widgets again...
THANKS
Really appreciate this. Can this method be used for disabling other stock apps, like the music app? Like half the time I start up my car, the bluetooth opens the stock app instead of Blackplayer EX (which I have designated as the default)
Just a note if someone wants to use scrollable widgets but also likes to flick down for app search. If you get used to starting your scroll with a small upward movement then it doesn't trigger hisearch to open.
(Just a tip in case anyone wants to keep search)

On another note has anyone successfully removed any of the other items on the package list without any dramas?
Does anyone know if it is possible to have an onscreen keyboard on the bottom screen (ie the phone) when using the Twinview Dock 3? For example, if using it to type emails etc, the bottom screen would be the keyboard and the top screen would be the mobile app.
yes, took me a minute to figure out but it can be done
Thanks @biotoxin, might send you a message when the unit arrives for a hand in setting it up if that is ok. Will also post details here for other users.
heads up it's app specific, not broad form, the screens are effectively 2 independent systems, so it's up to each app to make it work
I've been looking at apps like an2an to maybe get something more universal but it seems like the twinview doesn't like multiple instances of the same app simultaneously but I remember there being an option to make it happen so I'm researching...
the twin apps feature might be one way but I'm not entirely sure... details below
Code:
1.Download file twinapps_required_apps.xml
https://gist.github.com/shakalaca/9c7a8c6769cb87c6e7d83e809cbe6e5d#file-twinapps_required_apps-xml
Remember, you must download the file from right corner "Raw" button, do not press "download zip" to download or copy and paste the strings from the link
2.Find out the app package name that you want to add , As the example from the tutorial, they choose "GoShare" as an example, you can check its package name from the website version Google play, the hyperlink after "id=" is its' package name.
For Example "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gogoro.goshare"
"com.gogoro.goshare" is the package name.
3.Edit the downloaded twinapps.xml. Find out this string from the file "<string-array name="twinapps_required_apps">" (for apps)
or <string-array name="twinapps_required_apps_games">(for games). Added

in the front and after the package name. For example if you want to add "Goshare" in the app list, it should be
com.gogoro.goshare
. Add it after
com.imo.android.imoim|imo free video calls and chat
. And Save the file.
4 Connect your phone to your pc and use adb to push the edited twinapps.xml into your phone adb push twinapps.xml /sdcard/.
5 After pushed the xml file to your file, use this command to update the twinapps list
adb shell am startservice -a "asus.intent.action.TWINAPPS_CDN_FILE_UPDATE" -d "file:///sdcard/twinapps.xml" --ei "ACTION" 1 com.asus.twinapps/.TwinAppsService.
@biotoxin - just got the twinview dock 3 - great piece of hardward, well built and the power/volume buttons are handy!
In relation to getting a keyboard working on the lower screen - which apps did you use that it worked on, are you able to share the settings? Thanks!
Basically everything that officially supports it is listed in the armory crate, there's a jank way to do some things but it irritates me on a fundamental level so I'm looking into api level access to see if maybe I can make a wrapper that'll launch anything/ everything, or at least wrap a keyboard, if you want to give it a stab unity has the api info readily available or there's the jank way mentioned above
Hmm definitely can't seem to find a way to launch a keyboard on the bottom screen, how did you manage to do it?
Could someone port something over from the Microsoft duo perhaps? Android is capable of it, would be awesome for so many things!

I already have 2 versions of screen2auto displayed inside android auto. The 2nd one is a cloned one of the original. So I have 2 icons of screen2auto with the same name.. Anyone know what I should change in apk editor or other alternative app to change the name of the cloned? To have for example screen2auto and screen2autoB, or something.. If possible to change the icon also..
If anyone ask himself why to do that. One reason is to run different apps by one click. For example in cloned version of Screen2auto I have select in the settings to run youtube at start.. If i change the name and the icon of Screen2auto to : "YouTube" then I will have inside android auto launcher a YouTube icon which will auto launch YouTube with just 1 click. You could actually do the same by cloning 3rd time screen2auto by name IPTV and an iptv icon, and have 1 click run your iptv app. Etc for every app you want.
If you actually try this, you will find that after running the cloned app you have problems eg freezing (because you started original app screen2auto before), but you can solve this by calling a tasker script to kill screen2auto app every time you go back to android auto launcher..
I have tried all this and are working. I just miss what I ask, a way to change name and icon inside android auto original launcher. If anyone knows post a solution.
I have done this at past, changing name and icon but not in screen2auto but alternative mirroring app that was the main mirroring app then.. So it can be done probably in screen2auto.
Thanks,
I guess you will have to decompile the app. There are instructions online.
Afterwards you can change the Manifest file and look for the icon within the decompiled files.
In the end you can compile the app again and probably you will have to sign it.
But noone will guarantee that your app will work afterwards...
Therefore in my opinion this is a lot of work with no guarantee that the result will be fine in the end.
My proposal is to ask the developer to provide you all 3 apps with mods. I think if you buy him a coffee it will be possible.

You are probably right.. There is apk editor, which do mods like this easily but it's true that is not working well with screen2auto.. In previous mirroring app it was working good. Perhaps i may try some other tool, to see if it works better.. Also i don't know where in the code is the information for name (inside AA) and the icon. Someone who create AA apps should know.
I may send a developer a mail, if he wants to support something Iike the above, i describe.
