Noob that needs some help :D

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I wanted to ask some questions. Sorry for making a new thread for this but I didn't know how to draw some attention
First of all, I'm currently running JFv1.42 RC33 on a US G1. Now on with the questions:
1) Wiping the phone: what data is actually lost in this process? Will the new build run smoother with a wipe prior to flashing?
2) Can anyone tell me which locales are actually in the latest JF builds (1.51 US and EU)? I'm interested in the Italian locale, but from what I've read seems it can't be found anywhere...
3) Has anyone tried APPS2SD v2 with the 1.51 build? Any issues?
4) Can I flash my G1 with any of the latest builds or is there some kind of 'regional' constraint (my phone is US)?
5) Will I find the apps I already installed after flashing to the new build or will I need to download them again?

yes most builds will run faster after a flash, it gets rid of everything on the phone.. kinda like the opposite of installing new os... you just erase everything and make the OS new again. When you update builds from the same person you can just flash.. if going to different build you must wipe. The first time you update and root and all that jazz i would DEF wipe.. ( i treat it like going potty, i wipe everytime!!)

I cant be too sure but all the latest roms have a poop ton of locales.. is that there for fact i dont know...
3) Has anyone tried APPS2SD v2 with the 1.51 build? Any issues?
I heard that if you have atleast a class 6 card you will have more benifit than problems.. i have class 4 now so my experience is limited to just reading..

Well if you research the procedure on how to root/flash a g1, you will see that there is a hardspl that needs to be updated so you can infact REMOVE these contraints that DO exist.. so you dont ACCIDENTALLY flash the wrong thing.. now with this on your phone.. you can flash ANY rom from ANY area and it SHOULD work...
5) Will I find the apps I already installed after flashing to the new build or will I need to download them again?
if you update.. then it should be there.. if you wipe then no... go back to question 1 to see when or not to wipe...

Question

i have rooted my phone N installed the hard spl. Now i know if there is something else that i should update to my phone to make it betta. right now i have the jf v1.4 N my firmware version is 1.1 got rc33 and my kernal version is jesusfreak. CAn u put the links on here for where to go so i can have evrything up to date N show me watts other rom,radio or no wipe is betta to use

Can you type like someone who is literate? Its hard to read while you use words like "betta"...
There are forums for each of your requests. Go do the searching yourself because everyone has different preferences on what apps are "needed" on their phone, and you'll have to choose your own ROM depending on what you're looking for in one. Radios and SPLs rarely have to be updated unless the ROM you're upgrading to requires it.

Anyway, just look in the development section and find a ROM you like...JF 1.51 is a safe bet..

So u rooted. Just search like evryone else said its all up to u what u wanna do. Just search and you will find. Take your time. And no matter what Ur going to do make sure u update Ur radio b4 haykuro's spl otherwise you will brick. Just read around and see what sounds good to you. Its hard to try to point someone in what direction they should go becuase like we all said its all based on what you prefer to do. If u need help pm me. Or hit me on gtalk. To get an idea to see what others have done just read our sigs at the end of our posts.

one more thing....
You have to try to speak in Ur best English as possible. Most of the people on xda aren't from America so understanding slang won't be easy for them. I grew up in the hood in philly so outside of here I speak in slang myself. But you just have to realize there is a time and a place for everything.

spl is newer
The spl is newer I believe. But in order to install the spl u need the new radio image 1st. If you install the spl b4 the new radio you will brick Ur g1. So the radio is needed if you plan on running a Rom with the 1.5 or above frimware.

OO awrite good looking out i jst figured most people did but i guess not and your right there is a time and a place for everything

First we aren't picking on you, just trying to understand what the f*** you are asking (You aren't making it easy).
An SPL and a radio are different. The radio starts the SPL, as a result you need to flash the newest radio (Linked from Haykuro's blog) and then Haykuro's SPL. Otherwise you will end up with a $400 paperweight.

so thats probaley how i bricked my last two phones. see dis why people need too like put stuff N order becuz jst telling people what it suppose to n how it helps doesnt work out. So i update the rado then the spl so do u know where i can download the newest radio

Your right he should do that also. It helps when it comes to noobs with the built in nandroid recovery and the orbs goodies.
@illrific you see its hard to just say off the bat the steps you should do with Ur g1. I forgot to mention the recovery image, even though I have it myself. Just search and cruise the forums to see what looks good. Read and reread eveything to avoid simple mistakes and bricks.

[Q] Any good Froyo Roms for the Hero

I need a good Froyo rom for the sprint hero. Any good ones?

Most people on here would prolly flame u for not searching first nd im not by any means trying to be rude and btw the way welcome to XDA ... BUT u should at minimal do a search b4 posting cuz someone else more than likely asked the same question or if not u can find wat u r lookin for. Check out CM 6 by darchstar... it's prolly one of the only ones that r relatively stable at this point.

+1 on the research. Standard operating procedure is to check the forum (in fact, the very one you're posting in) for the thing you're looking for before asking. I join Vision in welcoming you to XDA, but please in the future do some basic research before asking questions, or worse, starting a thread for it.
CM6 by Darchstar, and the Extreme Blue/Vanilla, are the only 2 Froyo roms in existence for the Hero right now; even those are only "Tests", they aren't official releases. That said, if you are willing to accept a few bugs, the most recent version of each is pretty solid (I'm using Extreme Vanilla as my everyday).

It depends on what you're looking for. The froyo roms do not contain working flash.
You may look at NfiniteX's or there's that guys roms. Both have a2sd, jit, and full working flash based off the 2.1 ruu.

I have looked through the threads and was just curious to see if anyone really had a Rom to suggest. I have an Evo which I have rooted and installed my own Rom which I cooked my self. I was on here for my son because I haven't worked on Hero roms before, only Samsung before I switched to the Evo.

CM6 Worked wonders for my phone. No Lag. Very Fast. I would suggest it. Lookup the topic and first post has links. you will need to flash gapps after the rom which can be found by searching.

how do ya do it? i used clock work mod to flash the latest vanilla and all it does it stay on the boot screen

you may have a phone that can't handle certain speeds, try darch's rc1, it's capped at 691 for people (like me) who can't boot anything higher. Also, make sure you wipe data, cache, dalvik, and sd extension

[Q] Need help From 2.2 to GB 2.3.4

Hi everyone,
I still have Nova v7 on my Optimus Black.
But im thinking about changing to Gingerbread, and install Marvel v5.
Can someone, take some time and explain me in detail what i need to do to make that happen?
Note that my erecovery, CWM and all that stuff, is still from the time when i installed NOVA v7.
Im really a noob, on this things. i dont know what erecovery, and CWM and all that stuff are for .
another question, any way to save my games and data that are on the phone and not on SDCARD? (or do i need to format SD CArd aswell )?

That depends, do you want official or modified ROM, like Zeus, or Echelon, or Marvel,...?

and btw how do i update my eRecovery and CWM ? in NOVA V7

Install rommanager, install latest cwm from within it, download the rom you want to sd card, reboot to recovery ( inside rom manager) do wipes according to marvel thread (dalvik wipe is under advanced) then find all the other steps in my noob how to have fun

2 update cwm
3 boot to cwm
4 wipe

See I also have got that problem, of not being able to stay kind, but mostly (at least I hope so) I think back, how it was, when I was a total NQQB. Then I always remember, how cool it was, when some1 guided me step by step and giving me links, information, or whatever I needed... Think back of the first days of yours here... Didnt you also feel like: "WDF? WDF? WDF? What do I have to to? WDF? Dont understand...? What's that mean? Can someone explain? Am I really so much of a noob? I thought I understand a lot of computers, but now I feel like a complete idiot... How should I EVER get a custom ROM to my device? "
Those were my thoughts a few months ago... And now see all my posts, how to's and so on here... The main thing is: Stay cool, help out as good as you can, dont flame, cause 1 day you ll need help too and be thankful for a kind advice, that is being given.
So guide that man kindly to his goal (or whatever you call it) and feel happy, cause you really helped some1 out.
I just couldnt reply longer, cause I had to learn meanwhile and my traffic was full, so I had to ask my neighbor, to share his WIFI with me

Hope you made a nandroid, like suggested in my NOOB HOW TO... :-/ Backup everything with titanium Backup. This is gonna save all settings, game data, sms, contacts,... contacts can also be saved by syncing with googlemail, or other accounts, or you export them to the sdcard (go to contacts --> menu button --> export TO SDCARD/USIM) or with the LG app (LG Suite i think it is called).
Hope you didnt delete everything already...

Calm down. We are becoming a lazy bunch i tell ya that. Nobody wants to read. They just wants answers imidiately. That's no problem, someone will always help. What i can't stand is, never saying "thank you" people. If somebody helps you a simple thank you should be in order. Nobody gets paid for helping....
And don't forget the times you were a noob, desperately looking for help. So always help others.

just a quick question for a quick answer.
Basicly Marvel v5. its already a Gingerbread rom right?
because i was thinking that i needed to install the official 2.3 to be able to install MArvel.

No, you can directly flash marvel, zeus,... no need to up or downgrade before, except you flash a stock rom, without ext4 file support
