Not sure if anyone else noticed, or is excited like I am, but MLB At Bat is now on the market. Royals fan here. It's $14.99, so a little steep but we will see how long I can hold out from buying it. Just wanted to bring this to anyones attention who might be excited as me. Go Royals, where staying out of last place is a success.
Question to anyone who has bought.
This obviously is the "app" which I presume MLB has has built in "Gameday Audio" of some sort (which you can buy online at mlb.tv for the season.) Does anyone know if you can use your gmail and then sign in via a web browser on a computer to use, if you were say at a computer instead of your phone?...

KC Native here man, hell yea, someone make a summary and tell us if it is worth it.
I can't see it being worth $15. I can just go to the mobile site and get all the information I need for free. The game audio is a cool feature but if I'm not home to watch the game chances are wherever I am I can't listen to it.
Last years beta was the ****. I listened to the WS while on the road (Phils & Yanks fan here, so I was torn the entire series). Sure you can get all the stats & whatnot on a PC, but if you're not at your PC, the app was well worth it.
Unfortunately, the $14.99 price tag is WAY too steep for this. Although you can listen to the games, if your phone goes to sleep, or if you get a text, or do anything that pulls you away from the app, the stream stops & you have to re-initialize. PITA when you're multi-tasking on your device.
Now if they cut a cool $10 off the price, I'd consider it. I'd consider it even more if that $4.99 price tag gave me free updates of the app every year. Here's a question though (and I'm going to try this myself): If anyone still has the beta, have you tried installing it to see if it still works? If it does, what makes MLB think I'm gonna pay them $14.99 for an app I got for free, FROM THEM?!
Just a thought...
I have this app, only worth the $15 if your a hardcore baseball fan. Everything seems to work a lot smoother then last years beta though.

I don't have last years beta anymore but I would be shocked if it worked. The app is called At Bat 2010. They fully intend to make sure it does not work next season. Last year's probably can't get to this season's schedule.
I bought it because I'll be able to use it at work where I can't pick up AM radio and have no android slingbox app. It sucks that iphone gets live video and the others don't. I wouldn't use the live video much since they blackout the local games, but that would at least justify the price. The video highlights are good quality. Much better than what I saw of the NBA app.

I have last year's Beta. When you load it, only works up until the last game of the WS last year and sometimes the winter league games pop up but the beta is useless.

This app is awesome and worth the time installing it. Get all the games with the push of a button, including audio, stats and video highlights after the game. Well worth the investment IMO
Discuss.
And also do you use double twist.
i use iMusic you can get it in the market.
iMusic
www.greencode.me
The iTunes store. I don't pirate my music, and iTunes MP3 files are really great quality + DRM free.
I have a Zune subscription. Not able to use it on an android phone of course (haven't gotten my phone yet), but works wonders on my Zune HD.

You should read this before buying more songs off itunes. http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20090113/0707133391.shtml
I get mine off of Amazon. Quick, relatively inexpensive, and relatively good quality.
I'm using doubletwist. I just installed imusic to try it out, but doesn't seem to be working rift. Either that or I'm missing something.
Try Music Junk guys..I don't think it's on the market but it's on 4shared. It's really slick.

My CD collection.
You still listen to CDs, don't you?
I still support my favorite artists and app developers.
I've used Amazon sometimes which is good quality. But mostly from my CD collection!
In case there are those not aware: the 'PlayOn' app (free in the market) allows you to use Hulu easily, even you user queue, with totally no hacking of your NC. It's an app that's already been discussed in the NYT tech section, PC Magazine, etc.
What you do is open the other part of the playon app on your internet-connected pc (app downloadable from playon.tv website). When you choose what to watch using your NC, your computer app pulls what you want off the internet & transcodes it into what your device can see, then sends it back over the internet again to your device. Sounds laggy, but it's not. There's a status bar that shows a few seconds of buffering, and you're off!
I've been using playon for at least 6 months and love it.
Content: hulu, also access to non-hulu archives of just every tv show/movie you can imagine. I get LIVE DIRECTV channels (!) using the "tvpc script" option, and there's even an option called "tv links" that links to a pirate archive of first run movies.
There is a free trial, then it's cheaper than netflix or huluplus -- $4.99/mo or $39.99 year. It's one of my fav apps.
Have you tried it yet. What did you think?
I tried it out. It would not work on my main computer where all my video files were because it has two network ports. PlayOn recommends disabling the second port. But it still didn't work and PlayOn support couldn't resolve the issue.
I tried it on another computer and the Netflix and YouTube worked okay.
For the price I wasn't very impressed and it was mostly useless to me if it couldn't work on my main computer anyway.
I might consider it if they got rid of that one time fee for the first year ($40 first year, $20 each year after). $20/yr would be reasonable, but I don't want to pay $40 for that first year.
I don't like the fact I have to pay for it, which is why I made the Netflix and Hulu how to videos the way I did. With PlayOn I essentially have to pay money to watch things I already pay for.
Yeah, I used playon (and starting using their service back in the beta days). Now they charge a monthly fee and all this other crap, and are requiring I pay more than I already did (was a one pay lifetime fee when I paid).
I honestly wouldn't have a problem with paying for Playon if they used THEIR servers to encode. I don't want to have to leave my computer on all the time. If there was a way for it to work, without me having to leave my computer on, then I would gladly pay $40 a year for it. As it is I have Netflix working so that is nice. I may get Hulu working too (which would be nicer).
As a side note since husker has been in this thread: I used root explorer to move the app to system/app then to install it, but every time I try to open hulu it tells me I need flash version 10.0.32 or later. Any ideas?
Huskermania: your videos are great, I've used them for other workarounds. I already had hulu, etc with playon, & just wanted to make people aware. (Playon is on my roku, where I first heard of it.) Best wishes
The paying for it issue turns me off it, I already have Netflix and pay for it, don't need this for it.
well if your going to have use another computer to serve up the hulu, you could just get splashtop and remote into the computer instead. works pretty good to when i had my nook
five dollars in the market well spent

Why?
Anyways, The release of a Netflix app made the Playon app worthless. Before you were getting a decent value with access to both Netflix and Hulu. Now its just Hulu. Just not worth the price.
back then they kept bugging me to buy them for $14.99 or something...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but given that the OP advertises a paid service (of dubious merit, no less), wouldn't this be spam?
Hey guys.
according to the WSJ Music Beta is soon to be released. What is your experience so far?
Especially i want to know if you have any problems using it from "no us countries"... I'm living in germany and I havent had any problems at the beginning, since a few weeks i can't log in to my MusicManager to upload new songs (Counld not identify your computer )
and i also would like to know if you are willing to pay for this kind of service.

Well they're going to be a lot like Apple and iTunes, although I didn't see anything about DRM. Which will be awesome, DRM is stupid and doesn't do anything.
I love Music right now...I use it to stream music that I don't always listen to and store on my phone when I actually do want to listen to it. It's great if my phone is off too, and I'm over at someone's house or something and want to play music from my library. I've had very few hiccups, sometimes I've had to force Music to upload songs, but not really that much. I'd like better control over adding songs to the cloud library though.
And no...I would NOT pay for this kind of service. I'd pay for EXTRA parts of the service, if I deemed them useful (which I probably wouldn't). And of course, I'd love to buy music from Google rather than Apple, I'd much rather support a company I care about.
I use Amazon Cloud Player which is nearly an identical service.
It's awesome btw.
Been using Google music off and on. The artist list can get really laggy over 3g if you have a lot of music. I'm more inclined to pay Pandora which works well over 3g even with the lower audio quality.

the new interface is a bit funky at times, but it very easy to navigate through. however, i still love me some poweramp!

[POLL]Does PlayMusic,TVShows & Magazines Unavailability on NEXUS7 outside US matters?
As you may already be aware of, some of Google Play features are not available outside of US at this moment, and that includes Play Music, TV shows and Magazines.
DOES IT REALLY MATTERS TO YOU?
How many of us actually buy these things from market, please use the VOTING button.
I just hate all websites cribbing about NEXUS 7 and bringing out Negative points unnecessarily !!!
I prefer to have these items available, but if they were not due to location or whatever reason I'm sure we as a community could devise a workaround/solution.
The next step is to rename the thread to something besides [POLL], heh.
???
I can see the poll

Need another option for: Screw it, I'll make it work.
This is the xda community you're polling.

XDA devs will make it work, that's another story.
Basically I wanna know how its a negative point & how many ppl actually uses it !!
For me, the only thing I would be interested in is the TV shows, but I can happily live without. I don't care much for the magazines, and I already have Google Music, through the use of a proxy as soon as it was released!
It does matter up to a point but for me the number one issue putting me off the Google Play shop is the absolute lack of proper search engine. Considering how Google made their name in the first place it is just embarrassing. If they would sort that out I would happily live with the lower level of content.

Same here!
Google Music is actually the most important feature for me, as I have all of my music files stored there and working perfectly since day one. And there's also plenty of good and free books available in the Google Play store.
I'd like to see Magazines. Music would probably be useful too (currently not in the cloud at all). Also, unrelated to Play, I'd like proper Wallet support (I did the hack to get it working on my Nexus, bought 3 coffees with the pre-pay and then it didn't work any more as I can't recharge it)
I'm aware there's workarounds for us UK folk but it all seems so unnecessary, especially when Apple seem to have sussed it. I hope Google can work out whatever crappy licensing rubbish prevents it at some point soon.
I'd like music to be available to buy but its not as if its hard to buy/download elsewhere and upload to the library.
I know if/when TV becomes available it will likely be months/series behind the US availability so I'll still use other methods to get recent shows. Recently I decided to check out iTunes and the UK was things like series 6 of mythbusters against the US currently showing series 10. I'd actually happily pay for the TV if they can get US shows available in the UK at the same time/not long after they are in the US. Not likely though.
Magazines aren't really a big consideration.

Music I'd like, but I'll just use the workaround anyway, the rest doesn't matter at all.
Well you can sign up for Google Music using a proxy, and from that point on, use it just fine on Android (you can't BUY music, but you can use it to store your own music). I have been doing this for over a year from the UK.
If you want Magazines, then you have Zinio, which has an excellent selection. I think you also get some trial issues too when you install it (I did with my Asus TF101)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zinio.mobile.android.reader
Perhaps Google should just buy them...
TV Shows, well Loveflim and Netflix offer that...
So no, whilst it would be nice, it's not essential, as unlike Apple, Android gives you the option of consumer choice. In the UK we have Apps/Movies/Books. And it's sure the others will arrive eventually, once content publishers can be certain that upsettting the iTunes/Apple monopoly for content publishing is worth it. Apple are the ones that are holding a gun to content publishers heads. Supply to Google and lose iTunes publishing.
#BoycottApple
I put down that it matters, but I still bought. I do consider it a negative, when up here in Canada it seems that if there's one thing Apple does right, it's allow us a more inclusive media selection. I mean, I still use iTunes for purchasing music, and thanks to iSyncr and PlayerPro I can still reference my media library but.. it's not as slick as a real Google solution.
Don't care about the TV, but Magazines I also care about - would love to be able to read mag's on that thing. I'll check out Zinio, but not holding my breath.
So ya, to me it matters as in Google stop ignoring us, but doesn't matter enough to affect my purchases..
Thankfully EBooks do work up here at least....
I think if I bought a nexus 7, I'd try to use the play store
seems Close call, let see the no. on 19th July: UK Release !!
Not a big deal, as I will mainly use it for browsing/internets and some gaming.
I don't want to buy music as mp3, but I want to subscribe to music streaming service, ditto magazine and books. I don't want to buy them, but I would like a "credit" system where I can pick a few books or magazines every month. If that's not possible, I don't need any content from the google store, just apps.
well im from germany and it would be much better to have some good german magazines build for the nexus 7.. the U.S. is not the only market ^^ all in all maybe 40% at the end of the year I guess.

Ah, sure I had tried this in the past but took another look, and seems ideal. It's got my usual holiday-reading fare in there like T3 etc.
Cheers for the recommendation. Will investigate the music workaround at some point for my existing stuff too.
