is there such a app? i know many can block specific numbers but i doubt any of them have the option to block by area code. let me know. thanks!

SPB Phonesuite allows call blocking using either a blacklist or whitelist. It also has a ton of additional features.
Spb Phone Suite has one bug in the handling of a whitelist. I have to add all phone numbers twice, with and without country code, to make it work. We don't use area codes here in Oman. Maybe this is causing problems for the program?
try magicall works perfect you can also block incomming sms or autoreply with an sms to someone you blocked.
you can block individual numbers but also you can block all incomming calls when you are in a meeting or going on a plane...

IMO magicall outbeats them all.
Running gingerbread, which has an option built in to do call blocking and an option within that to block "unknown" callers.
Now, to my way of thinking there are THREE sorts of incoming callers;
1/ 123456 Fred, already in my contact list, he is calling to say Hi
2/ 234567 Jim, not in my contact list, he is calling to buy my car
3/ ??????? Tom, his number is hidden, either because he has chosen to hide it, or because he is calling from an office behind a pbx that hides numbers by default, he is calling to upsell my car insurance
Now, I want to block #3, but not #1 or #2, and yet to me I would classify #2 as "unknown", so using the built in or third party call blockers will block Jim, which I do NOT want to do...
I ONLY want to block people with withheld or hidden numbers
I DO NOT want to block people who do not have withheld or hidden numbers, even if I do not yet know them or their number.
So can anyone clarify the definitions, as far as Android and various apps are concerned?

call blocking unknown numbers will block calls from people that withold there number, the calls that you get but when you check the number it says 'Unknown' so i think it will do what you want it to do.

I am running MIUI Global 11.0.7, using default dialer (com.google.android.dialer) and i cannot block unknown callers, i can only block numbers that i know. I attached a screenshot with the Block Numbers activity/fragment. Am i missing something? hidden option somewhere ?
You cannot block "unknown numbers" in miui. Try using truecaller for a spam free experience.
