[Request] Remove Text From HomeScreen Icons - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

I am wondering if it is possible for the text below icons on the homescreen can be removed? I dont think they are necessary and some of the longer names get cut off which annoys my OCD.

ocd.
Lol..........

I would love a mod for this as well. Like you, I also hate seeing "Android App..." on my screen as well. My OCD also goes a step further; It kills me that "Handcent Sms" isn't properly labeled, "Handcent SMS".

I use Anycut to create shortcuts to existing applications with my own name. So Mail instead of Google M...
I'm not sure if you can have no text though

Cheers for that. You are correct in the fact it doesnt allow clear text fields though.

can you just put a space in the text field?

Yes, very nice!

If you add Handcent by going adding widget then choosing "android widget" It adds the icon with text underneath as "Handcent Sms"

Someone? Anyone? A good task manager that looks good too?

V bar--- Awsome app, great menu, very fast
downfall ---- The right side is the wrong color unless you use the original windows mobile 5 home screen! We all know that most of use are running windows mobile 6 or dont use the simple blue homescreen
(ive already tried to make a new .bmp image, it doesnt work good at all.)
Magic Button --- I love the top bar icons. Great app
downfall -- The whole top of the screen is a different color! Thats ridiculous.
Pbar --- Easily the best menu.
downfall --- you have to start the program to use the app! Its not like vbar and magic button where you can access the menu from the top right of the screen
help me guys, i want a good task manager
I use Magic button as I love the simplicity of it. I do find the odd colors in WM6 weird, but have gotten used to it.
A lot of people swear by Wisbar. I put it on and it does look very cool, but its VERY different' than magic button and I didn't have time to try to figure it out. I'll probably give it a try again soon. But I'm not sure it does the active icons in the top bar like Magic Button (and I love that feature).
Have you tried InClose Mobile??

If you mean running program icons, it does.
I had no problem making vbar use bmps. I configured it to look like my WM6 theme. Maybe you could try it again?

What theme are you using? I can try to make it for you. I made mine by taking screenshots of the screen before installing vbar. I took one with no button, one with the "X" and one with the "OK". Use the blank for the background, then draw a small triangle on it for the context menu. The other two are self explanatory.
See the attached screenshots.
oh ok i see what you're saying. i didnt take any screen shots so i was just making a picture myself. I was using the green homescreen that comes with windows mobile 6. It even looked bad with the blue one.

I love vBar! And you can make it match whatever theme you are using:
Go to vBar Setup, click on "Show background image" and use the appropriate little menu bar piece - try this file, vbar Crossbow Turguoise.bmp, provided below - place it in \Windows.
If you are using a different Crossbow version, (for instance true WM6, that has the two-tone menu-bars), do a screen capture of your Today screen while vBar is disabled, then edit it in your favorite photo editor, cropping out just the upper right section of the screen, from the date over (be sure to get the whole bottom line of the menu bar). Name that little .bmp appropriately, copy it to \Windows, and then set it as the vBar background image, as above.
Try the file below before you go to a lot of trouble, and make sure that it works for you. Works for me! I like the "Cyclic Black Bars" theme, so I created a little .bmp so vBar will have the right background for that (also attached below).

Looks like you beat me to the reply by about half an hour, while I was composing my reply! I use Adobe Photoshop Elements to crop the little bits of my screen shot - what do you use?
Photoshop.

Help w/ Clear Lockscreen

So I've found all the files that pertain to the lockscreen on a 2.1 sense build save for one: the little black background that goes behind the notifications (missed call, new message, etc.) I'd simply like to make it a little shorter so that it doesn't reach all the way up to the time. Does anyone know what this file is called and where it's located?
Thanks.

Changing icon names.

Is there a way to edit the names of the icons to applications that you put on your home screens? It bugs me that, for instance, my 'googlemail' icon just reads 'googlema' as there's not enough room for the last few characters. The netcounter icon just reads 'NetCounte'.
Just want a way to tidy the names up.
Thanks.

Either "Anycut" or "BetterCut", both available in the market. Anycut is free, but BetterCut allows you to change more than the text, you can change the icons as well.
Cheers, just what I was looking for

[REQUEST] Remove the clock!

I really want to get rid of the clock on my status bar. Can anyone help me?
you cant remove it but i think you can make it invisible. however the space that the time takes up will still be there. any reason why you want it removed?

If you have a widget clock like the one on sense then it's redundant to have 2 places where time is shown.

exactly.

Not always, with me having the Cliq and can't change the clock color(yet) We have black themes so we can't see the clock. It didn't bother me since I had Beautiful Widgets at first. But then I realize how annoying it was always switching to the home screen to look at the time if I was in the middle of some task.
of course you can get rid of the clock, you just need to add this line into the statusbar xml file
android:visibility="gone"
that will remove the clock and will remove the space used for it as well, i would recomend you try apk tool on your framework-res.apk
Heres my experience in the past lol, I got rid of my clock, thinking a widget clock and that status bar clock is useless. About a day after, I couldn't help it. Got it back because that widget clock isn't as useful! It looked great at first, but I couldn't just rely on the widget!
Correcct me if im wrong but the lockscreen shows the time correct?

Um.... that's not exactly the most practical way, bringing up Voice Dialer (Gasp, someone else knows) will close what ever your in (or suspend it technically)

I for some reason, find you an amusing person. I love reading your posts!

Is it possible to hide the click in the top right? (Captivate)

Is this possible? I find it redundant to use beautiful widgets with a clock already on the screen...
Thanks.

I'm sure it would be by modding the framework file. You should maybe start there and see where that goes.
You can do it by modding the framework file, or take the easy way like I did and use launcherpro and have it set to hide the notification bar.

Thought of that, but then I cant see my notifications at the top which I use a lot.. id just like to remove the clock, and slide all the battery and signal info to the right to take up its space.
I found work-arounds for that problem too lol. I customized my dock with 'call', 'texts', and 'gmail' icons and set the preference to show the 'unread' or 'missed call' count on the icon. I think it just makes my home screen look cleaner. Plus I get the full screen view of Katy Perry's half naked body woot woot.
Or you can also just set the notification bar to be hidden, and set the home softkey to pull down the notification bar.
