Ight so I know that the Verizon Android Market is different then the rest because instead of the download tab it had a Verizon tab... is it possible to get that onto the G1 and get Verizon apps like the Sprint Expirence Apps from the Sprint HTC Hero Dump? Thanks =)

It will work, but you won't get 3G, only EDGE & GPRS. A slightly resdesigned version of the Hero is going to be released by sprint soon, so get that if you want 3G speeds.

US 3g frequencies are not supported by the hero...
like the guy said, sprint is releasing their own version of the hero with ev-do speeds.
but sprint is cdma, not gsm, so you can't take your sim and make it work. You'll have to wait until HTC releases Hero on maBell and shuns tim, or wait for tattoo (i think it IS comming to tim). Or, just get a sapphire, it's the exact same hardare as the hero and you can fit all of the hero rom on it.

I don't live anywhere near the coverage of this carrier but I am curious. They have released a CDMA phone which they have titled the Milestone. My presumption is that the hardware is more like the Droid, but they had to pick another name because only Verizon has licensed the use of "Droid". Has anyone tested out whether this phone has an unlocked bootloader (which would presumably make it compatible with Droid ROMs)?
This clarification may be helpful so that users of this phone will not accidentally follow any of the other "Milestone" instructions out there on the web.
Are you sure it's CDMA? The whole "Milestone" model is GSM based.
I imagine a CDMA Milestone would just be a Droid without all of Verizon's Droid crap all over the UI. Haven't even heard this but it'd be cool to know. Wonder why Telus didn't grab this too?

Yes, it is a CDMA phone. Cellular South is a CDMA carrier. They have no way of operating any phone that isn't.
Telus didn't grab this because they didn't want another CDMA phone. They want pretty much all new releases to be HSPA phones. That's why they released the HSPA Milestone.
You can root it using universalandroot. It installs superuser and then install rom manager from market and flash recovery then you need to make a nandroid backup.you can now flash any Droid rom you want I am using sapphire 1.0 with 1ghz kernal and it is working. Just make sure you don't flash a different radio baseband.anymore information on this you can look up Droid forums/cellular south milestone/Droid.com

Thanks, glad to clear that up! I wonder if the forums should be renamed to reflect the fact that this "Milestone" should be treated as a Droid.
And so it begins...

I just bought a motorola droid and i need to have it fully activated with alltel. i have a friend that works at alltel and she said it would be no problem but i dont know if data connection will work. can anybody help me get this fully functioning with alltel? thank you in advance!
well i know this should work. I did the same thing back when the BB storm 9500 came out. I was on alltel and had to do a little bit of changing some numbers and walla. you should get data.
How in the hell do you still have Altell? Verizon bought them out years ago.
Verizon had to sell off portions of Alltel in areas where the only main competitors were Verizon and Alltel. AT&T bought those portions but as of yet have not converted much, or any, of those areas. So they are still operating under the Alltel name.

I am in the middle of a full scale revolt from Sprint. MetroPCS is saying they can switch the Hero CDMA over to their network by the end of February. Seeing as my Sprint contract means very little to me any more, I am beginning the process of rooting and other trouble-making. My question is with the order of events.
Is it best to wait until the phone is switched to Metro to root or does it matter?
I have a sevice center in my area that will flash the radio, so it will not be a lone venture. Just looking for any imput and suggestions.
Thanks!

I've been shopping for a 1st gen tab to get onto verizon data as cheap as possible (sharing plan).
If I find a used sprint tab cheaper, can I flash it and make it work on verizon?
Will verizon accept the sprint ESN for activation?
Thanks for any advice.
I'd save the hassle and just get a Verizon Galaxy Tab... My Sprint tab is technically on Verizon, but I didn't give it an ESN from an old Verizon phone, so it can't be activated.
Anyway, the only time I'd bother flashing a Sprint tab to Verizon would be if I got the Sprint tab for free and there was nothing to lose... I accidentally lost the ESN the Sprint tab originally had, so it can't be used with Sprint, it's WiFi only now :/
I forget what I had to do exactly to get as far as I did, but it required CDMA workshop ($100 if you don't pirate, but hey **** them for charging $100 for it) and a Windows PC, which I no longer have.
