I installed this program EboBirthday (that I wont recommend to anybody). With this program you can get birthdayinfomation that you filled in about your contacts, and i.e make calendar entries for each to get reminders etc.
This program was messing up my syncronization with the google server, so needed to delete it - and all program-data. This was very tricky, but after a while with thousands attempts, I finally removed the most part of it - I think. Except the calendar entries.
Whatever did not EboBirthday rendering birthday dates correctly. Year was wrong, so calculation of how old the person was, was wrong. (Think it was an error with rendering the date to a timestamp, so many contacts "was born" in 1970)
So I logged into iGoogle and deleted all calendar entries from there. The calendar is now empty on iGoogle, but calendar entries on the phone will still not go away - unfortunately.
I have tried to opt out of iGoogle calendar on the phone and add it again, and calendar entries disappear when it is left out, but comes back again when I select back google calendar. In iGoogle, I can not see that the entries are back.
What can this be? Some who have suggestions for how I can remove these from my mobile?
My cell phone is not rooted.
Thanks in advance.

Problem solved! I had to delete the content i Calendar on the phone. Actually i think the phone automatically should have did this, because its syncs with Google-calendar.
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> Calendar Storage -> Remove data
Then i synced my phone again with Google, and everything was OK - and synced!

Currently, I keep getting force close errors when sending messages and creating or editing contacts, I really want to fix this so I thought I might as well try and root my phone at the same time.
Here are my questions:
1. Should I fix these force close errors before I root my phone. If so, how?
2. Does rooting my G1 mean I'll lose my messages, contacts, etc?
3. Is there anyway I can save my messages, contacts, etc before I root my phone and reinstate them afterwards? (If they are lost in the process).
I hope my questions aren't too stupid!
Thanks!
Giggity giggity...... don't bother fixing the fc's, they would be fixed in the process. You will lose messages, call log, browser bookmarks, internal save apps, almost everything on your phone when you wipe it. Your contacts are synced with gmail and will auto restore, any apps you purchased will be availible for redownload in my downloads in the market, they are also linked to your gmail. Back-up wise, the only programs that I know back-up on root only or you have to pay for use. So you are **** out of luck there
Gridlock pretty much said it all. But I will add one thing tho, there are apps that will allow you to back up your sms first without root. Just go to the market and look up "backup" and you will see a bunch of apps that you might want.
If you are having FC while sending messages my personal opinion would be to not backup and restore anything that has to do with those messages. Just imo.
Make sure you have data sync turned on and you do a manual sync before you root to ensure you have an up-to-date backup of your contacts.
Menu > Settings > Data Sync > Menu button > Sync Now
Thanks for the answers guys. I've come across another damn problem now that I've been trying to back up my contacts. I have a bunch of numbers on my phone that appear to not be in any 'sync group'...I select all contacts in sync group and then make my contacts sync. I check my g-mail account and its just got all my e-mail addresses but not my phone numbers. When I sync My Contacts it sends only a few numbers. I can view "Contacts With Numbers" but I cant seem to sync them.
Also, when I select 'all contacts' to sync I get that damn red exclaimation mark.
In an attempt to sort this, I selected all my e-mail contacts in 'All Contacts' and sent them to a new group called 'E-mail'. Then I selected to delete 'All Contacts' expecting to retain them in my new 'E-mail' group and it deleted ALL my bloody contacts including 'My Contacts'. I've now lost the few numbers under 'My Contacts' (even on my phone somehow...) and all my damn E-mails!
Can someone please tell me how the hell I can sync "Contacts with numbers" onto my g-mail so I can root my ****ing phone!!!
Are the contacts you lost still on your gmail account if so it will prob just resync them and you still have your contacts on your sim card also well just the ones you had before you started using this phone. The most I ever backup is my app data, bookmarks always give me a fc on the browser when I restore. I don't worry bout contacts though since gmail handles that
Well this is my problem. My g-mail had none of my contacts! When I got this phone it was a fresh sim card with nothing on. I put all my numbers in by hand. My numbers were last (fully) synced on 27th Jan 09. Everytime I sync, I get My Contacts only. All the other numbers fail to sync, I'm guessing because they're not in any group. Even if I select all numbers to sync they don't go to my G-Mail. I had about 15 number sync in My Contacts (before I deleted the buggers). Now I'll have to get those back.
I need a way of putting all my numbers that aren't in My Contacts, into My Contacts to Google will sync them! I'm guessing this is because they were put into my phone because the update where Google made all newly entered numbers go into My Contacts...Hmm
Right, I've sorted it.
Downloaded an app from the the market place called ExportContacts. Worked like a treat. It wrote all my contacts to a .csv. Simply imported them on G-Mail. Added them to contacts, deleted all of them on my phone and re-synced. AT LAST I CAN ROOT!

woot glad you got it to work and this is good info for general use as well
I have the sync checked and everything, but when I go the google calender through my computer it is blank. Any suggestions for why it isn't working. It problem something stupid I haven't done.
Underneath the date where it says calendar, did you choose your acount instead of my calendar? Sorry if that seems insulting, we just have to rule out the obvious first.
I have both checked. And don't worry about insulting me. Like I said, it is probably something stupid.
Was sync ever working? What changes have you made to your phone (e.g. new firmware)?
Your settings seem fine.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
No special rom or anything and synchas never worked. I tried unchecking and checking the thing again. Didn't work. What its weird is that the info shows up on the launcher pro + calender widget. It seems to be missing some events though.
As I understand this - your calendar is displaying correctly on the phone, but not on your computer?
When you create a new calendar entry on the phone, are you making sure that it is placing it in the google calendar and not "my calendar" - you have to change this as "my calendar" is the default and does not sync to google calendars.
So my calendar will not sync with my google calendar? I have to do it with each event manually? I thought that if the syncing was set up to sync with my google calendar, that it would.... sync with it. Or does it only work one way? Google calendar to my calendar, but not the other way around?
It sounds like you might not have background and auto sync enabled, do you know if you do?
In the calendar app, as mentioned before, make sure you're selecting "[email protected]" rather than My Calendar (its annoying to me, seems like they should sync by default without my input, but at least that part is simple enough for me to get over it).
Then, check out your settings... Apps >> Settings >> Accounts and sync
Do you have Background data and Auto-sync checked? these are crucial, though i think Auto-sync is what should fix this.
Then select your gmail account just below that. Make sure everything is checked. Calendar could be unchecked by default, thus not syncing. I can't remember what's checked out of the box.
Then, I suggest adding the Power Control widget to one of your home screens (I don't know if this is installed by default, I've downloaded and removed too much to remember it all ). The 4th box is the Auto-sync toggle. I need my battery to last all day, so I have this off until I can actually use the stuff, like email, etc.
You can either leave it on at all times and deal with minor battery loss (i think it's minor, tomorrow I'm testing how much battery it will consume leaving on). Or you can toggle it as needed like i do, and when on, it will sync up the calendar, along with everything else. This may not solve your problem, but it sounds reasonable to me. I might be in the same boat as you if I hadn't read a lifehacker article about the Power Control widget and syncing my google stuff.
Let us know how it goes
I have exactly the same problem and I have been trying to fix it all week!
Seems everything is right but nothing will sync, it says it has but my calender is nowhere to be seen, can anybody help I have even factory reset to try again today...

Rereading some of this.... It seems like you are seeing Google events on teh phone, but phone events are not showing up in Google.
Probably the issue is the events are created on the phone (by default) in "my calendar" not in the google calendar. 2.2 fixes this, but 2.1 (the stock build and the recent update) make all entries go into "my calendar" by default. You can change this via a drop down, but you have to do it for every calendar entry you create on the phone.
Hi Guys,
I have some strange Problems syncing my Google Calendars.
It shows my Default Calendar and syncs it, but all other calendars i have are not visible in Android 2.2's Calendar App --> Means that its not possible to sync them.
Once it worked by resetting the device to factory defaults - then it showed up all calendars. But that can't be the truth, resetting MY DEVICE to sync a stupid calendar?????.
I don't want to loose all my data and settings (of course i know that i can do backups etc...)
What i tried it:
-Deleting Dalvik Cache
-Deleting normal Cache
-Removing Calendarstorage
...but nothing worked. Just the default Calendar and no other...
Does anybody have a tipp for me how to FORCE google Calendar to sync all Calendars, is there a file i need to edit or someshing else? Maybe a fix from the market?.
I tried also to remove the google Account from Android but that was not possible in Android 2.2. I guess in it worked in Android 2.1....really strange!
Regards
What I did when shared calendars weren't showing up was to go to settings->application->calendar storage and do a 'clear data' and 'force stop'. Repeat for calendar app as well.
Next time it synced it showed the other calendars.
And yeah, I noticed too that you can't delete the account anymore due to it being used blabla
Are there any other fixes or workarounds to try, I've noticed I'm getting this problem too? It's probably been there a while, but it's only now I've updated one of my other calendars.
I've tried clearing data, forcing a stop, or rebooting, but nothing seems to work.
Curiously, although only "My Calendar" and the default Google calendar appear for selection in the default calendar app, all the other calendars (whether they're personal Google calendars or public ones like "UK Holidays") appear for selection to display in a few third-party apps I've tried. Unfortunately, all these apps seem to use the actual calendar data, so even if the other calendars are selected, nothing is displayed because the stock app won't sync.

I've got the exactly same problem. I am using Froyo 2.2.1 and tried clearing data, forcing stops, reboots, format cache partition...and nothing. I can select the other calendars in Smooth Calendar widget and Touch Calendar (although they dont show the events on the calendar) But I cant see them in Android Agenda widget and in Stock Calendar app.
This is really frustrating. Is it really that hard to make those small things work? Please help!
I'm using the Smooth Calendar app and have the same problem. (complicated by needing to use a VPN because of where I live). I'm also using eM Client for the calendar on the PC. Here is what I did:
1) checked on line to see if google calendar synced ok - It was ok
2) Installed Google calendar app on my phone - checked to see if it was sync'd - it was NOT
3) In Smooth Calendar select config. Under the heading "Application" | Calendar application: Select which calendar application to use > (selected "Calendar" which is google's android calendar)
4) Went back to google calendar on the phone and press the three vertical dots and then selected refresh
5) Went back to Smooth Calendar and selected refresh - all is well now
(I don't know if I'll need to do so much in the future)

I just realized that there are two "refreshes" in Smooth Calendar. Ones is visible when you press on the display. The other is when you choose "calendar" and you are actually seeing google's calendar at that point. Choose the three vertical dots and refresh there !!!
I seem to have synched everything multiple times when I set up the One. I have 2000+ contacts and a metric crapload of duplicates, the de-duplicate option seems to stall out on me and not complete every time I try it, what do?
I don't know what type of account your working on, but if it was an exchange & you have the contacts on your PC's outlook, you can sort them by date, all the newly created duplicates will have the same date, select them all & delete.
www.google.com/contacts
Use the de-duplication tools on there, assuming they're in Google contacts and you have synching on, of course.
Hello,
I have the following issue: it looks to me that the contacts app on my Samsung does a kind of sync of contacts on the phone.
For example I have a DAV synchronization of my professional accounts, and as you see in the attached image, Mat is twice in my contacts, once in "Phone Storage" (I have never added him there or enable any kind of synchronization on my phone) and once in the normal DAV address book.
The problem I have is that in my work address book I have removed Mat's phone number, but it still exists in the Phone storage.
Can I turn off this automatic synchronization with the Phone storage, or at least force my phone to do it correctly?
I mention that this is the case with all my address books, it is the same behavior with my private contacts in Microsoft 365 and that I never edit my contacts on my phone, only in my work account or in my Microsoft 365 account directly, so I can say that the synchronization is always one way, from the external system to my phone.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Sorin
Try this :
Go to settings - apps - tap on the sorting icon on the right of the 'your apps' area and enable 'show system apps'.
Go to 'google contacts sync'. Choose force stop and disable it.
Thank you! I have done what you have proposed, but I still have all my contacts in the "Phone Storage". Can I delete them safely? How?
