Hi guys,
first of all apologies for advertising this little software I wrote on these pages. If it isnt allowed, mods please remove this.
I have recently published a little app I wrote. Name is TellyZap and you can find it on the market in two flavours: a Lite version and a Pro version.
heres the Lite version:
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-chipset-tellyzap_lite-xtxq.aspx
and the Pro:
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-chipset-tellyzap_pro-xtxj.aspx
They both support 67 channels, european channels for the moment, however I thought that with satellite/digital becoming very popular very quick, some europeans could have a use for it too.
TellyZap allows you to view a full programme listing for the 7 days from the date of consultation. Has categories (soap, documentaries, movie etc..) and will give you a description of the program, time, channel etc.
the Lite version is limited to the day of consultation, and will not show the programme description, but only its title and time of airing.
The Pro version allows also to send a programme to one of your contacts in form of an SMS or Email. It also allows you to send your favourite programme to your calendar so you wont miss it !
I hope some of you will try it, and let me know your feedback. If you find any issues/bugs or have requests I will be glad to entertain them, just drop me an email at the address specified in the market, of pm me here.
And if you find it useful, I wont stand in the way of a little contribution for my work.
thanks for reading!

Hi. Well I know personally if you add USA Tv Guide support Id be very interested. =D Good luck with the app. =D
thanks for the feedback!
N
i think i a list of the channels would be interessting to decide wether its useful or not
The list of channels (or at least the part that I could fit in so many characters) is in the description of the app in the market.
Well since your focusing on European guide, I have a suggestion for you, why not intergrate teletext to the channels (If Avail to that channel) That could make a nice feature addition.

mmmm...thats kind of surprising..
- last time i needed/looked at teletext was probably 7 or 8 years ago.. is it still used? in what circumstances/ what would you use it for?
- at the time teletext was obviously coming via the cable (antenna receiver/whatever connection).. is teletext also available somewhere on the web??
thanks for the feedback.

I've been looking for a good TV guide application for android for quite a while. Unfortunately I don't like the interface currently at all, searching for specific programs on specific channels isn't what I want.
IMO a good TV guide app should have the following features
- Grid view similar to most TV guides (sony's freeview interface is a good example) listing the current programme as well as the upcoming schedule. (example - http://www.blogcdn.com/www.pvrwire.com/media/2007/01/tivo-comcast2.jpg)
- Customizable channel list so I can select which channels to see in the grid view
- Ability to skip many days forward in the gridview, set regular reminders for particular shows or specific reminders for single episodes.
That's what android needs if you ask me, when I want to know whats on a turn on the TV and look through the grid view, what I want to be able to do is the same thing on my phone

Hi everybody,
I wanted to learn some (basic) programming in VC# and the .Net Framework. So i looked for an idea. After a short time i had this idea, to create a program, in which you can keep track of your Fuel consumption of your car. (i think it is kind of useful, because the prices are changing every day).
I thought i'd share it here.. maybe someone is looking for a piece of software like this.. if not, just ignore it
you can test it, use it etc (whatever you want)..
Currently, there are two languages: German and English, but i dont love my English translation...
News:
v0.1.1 is now online:
I fixed the bug but another problem appeared: people who upgrade to the new version will lose all their data stored in data.xml with the uninstaller...
So i decided to create a simple Backup-Restore Function. Now, with the new version, you can Backup your Data before Upgrading and after that, you can restore it... If you use the Backup - the files will remain in your memory, until you delete them..
This is not the best way to solve the problem, because these files will stay on Memory even if the user uninstalls the program...
I read, that there is a way to costumize the setup process with a custom "Setup.dll" but i could not figure out how this works.. if anyone knows how to do this, please PM me..
Changelog:
v0.1.1 - 10/20/2008
fixed: storing units did not work
added: simple backup-function
added: simple restore-function
v0.1 - 10/19/2008
inital release
Beware: I will not guarantee for damage on your devices
If you have Bugs, ideas for new features or other feedback - let me know ..
This is a cool little program, would help a lot of people who have to teavel to work, etc..
I wish i had this when i was having some mileage problems with my car.
FuelCal
It looks good. I will give it a try.
Don't worry about your English, you can program!!!
Have a great day.
Glenn
FuelCal
Now for some more fun programming.
The store function is not storing the updated info.
It would be very useful for me if it would also calculate Mile/Gallon
Thanks.
Glenn
thanks for the feedback...
well i did not test the "Store" Feature for the Units ... bad in this case...
is will release a fixed version soon, stay tuned...
have a nice day
Just what i was looking for.
Thank you very much.
A bug
Hi. Excellent idea. You should check that on "Evaluation" the "price per Km" should be divided by 100 because it is done in cents but the unit says, when you change it, $/Km and not $cents/Km
Thanks.
Suggestion
Nice idea g3eB4Y. I will try the app.
This is something that could grow into a larger application if you want to track vehicle maintenance too. Also, I think that it would be helpful if you could simply enter the odometer reading and fuel quantity and allow the program to calculate distance.
First of all, thank you for your feedback...

I think there is nothing really wrong with the calculation.
When you change something on the settings page, you will only change the mask, but it will not affect the calculation..
The first Textbox under "Currency" will change the display for the "big-currency-unit" (€,$...) and the other textbox will change the "small-currency-unit" ($Cent, €Cent.. )
I can include a feature, that you really can change the calculation and display mode (€/km, €Cent/km, €Cent/20km ...) but at this moment, it does not

its great to see, that somebody uses it... thank you!
g3eB4Y,
Very nice app you have. I've been using a excel spreadsheet to do this and now, I'm moving over to your app.
I wonder if you could add in another method of calculating the fuel consumption.
Distance travelled / No. of Litres = km/litre
Hope you can add that in to your next update.
Thanks once again.
PS:
No big deal but if you could name your cab file with the version number, it would be great!
It would be awesome if there was an application to use the MBW-150 bluetooth watch on the G1. Is anyone developing one?
-Tyler
I'll bite. I'd buy one if I didn't have to use a sony ericson phone to use it.
[IDEA]A new contact app(2 preview screenshots)
Does anybody think the built-in contact app is not easy to use?
I'm working on a new contact app called aContact which provides a new UI to access to contact data and some more features.
So,anybody has any idea about this new app or found the disadvantages of the built-in contact app??
THANKS
I will post the scrrenshots after I finished the first version.
Thanks again for your advices!

nice idea even though i dont mind the g1's contact app i know it can be better.
some things i think you should add:
-ability to view contacts in groups or categories
- if possible assign ringtones to group
- have the number/letter show up when scrolling like the icontact for wm
- integrate it so that when someone send you a number you can long press and add number to you contact manager or you can make it retrieve contacts through google.
- have birthday

[REQ] Android App Ideas
hello android users,
I am a developer on the windows mobile side of things (see the M2DC thread for an example of my work) and I am thinking I might like to move over to developing for android.
I have a few problems, first, I don't have a device, this is not a huge deal at the moment because I can just use the SDK emulator for now, but I will be purchasing a device later on if I like developing for this platform. The second problem is that I need help with ideas for some simple apps... since I do not have a G1 to handle on a daily basis I don't really get the chance to feel things out and discover where an app might come in useful.
So my request is this. Does anyone have any ideas for "simple" android applications? Anything they wish the phone did better? Or a simple functionality that they wish the phone had? Reading through this forum it looks like there is a demand for OCR and possibly something to make applying new themes/skins easier? Or the TextTwist Game?
Of these 3 the game sounds the most interesting, the theme changer sounds good too because that is what my current development in windows mobile does, and the OCR is most likely out of my league at the moment.
I am open to any app ideas, I'm just looking for something to get me started and get me interested in the platform.
A few apps i would like to see as follows
1. A reboot option in shut down menu "if possible".
2. Digital Clock for homescreen
3. Screen Capture
4. Camera Zoom option
5. Checkers
Hope this helps a bit, good luck!
An application that kills tasks running in the background (although most folks say it's not possible right now), video recorder, night mode for camera, or Sirius/XM internet streamer similar to SiriusWM5 (I'm not sure that one is possible at the moment either...). Of course, you could create widgets (something more simple) but the source code won't be available to next year allegedly.
- Office suite (word and excel file editor)
- Youtube downloader from phone (like iphone mxtube)
- Super Mario Chronicles !!!!!
- FlightGear portable
- compiz fusion !! (not important but just tto test phone power to my friend that have an Iphone)
- More widget

You can view contacts in groups - Contacts - Menu - Display Group (created on GMAIL page).
Ringtones to groups would be nice, but for now you may just display a group and assign them all a ringtone
The long press to dial/save numbers in SMS has been addressed and should be in the final version of Android 1.0.
A birthday? Ehrmm.... Would personally prefer that to stay where it is (in my calendar).
I would like it to integrate the Dialer and searching for contacts, so i can just start typing a name or a number and it would show me the matching contacts. (I think SpellDial does this but is not very robust).
Thanks

Thank you very much for the input guys, I really appreciate it. These lists are definitely getting the creative juices flowing... I will see what I can put together.
If possible I will open source the beta version of my first program and post the beta packages here on xda for everyone to use without charge... I am still learning the whole process so we will see what happens in the end
Thank you for the suggestions, and I am still open to hearing more
I guess "simple" is also relative to your level of proficiency in Java and mobile development. As far as holes in the shipped operating system that could use fixing, there are many points to attack. Some could be done in the JVM, others would have to be done in native c. Examples include:
An office suite
Video recording
Touchscreen text input (API will expose this in 09Q1)
A simple but high-quality word or puzzle game would be great tho.
Edit: welcome aboard the Android side too ;-)

I agree with you 100%, the system stuff sounds good, but of the posted ideas and from what I have seen there is a small demand for "simple" games, and this is the direction I plan on going initially, games are fun to make and they should give me a decent overview of what is involved in throwing together an app.
As far as my java proficiency... I can definitely get by. I have a few websites that rely completely on the google web toolkit, and my bachelors degree was typical of an early 2008 CS curriculum, 2 years of java to learn what OO programming is, and then 2 years of C to learn about the fun stuff (pointers, threads, compilers, OS's, etc...). but like I said before I am just looking to make a traditional application, and I think that it is going to end up being a game of some sort,
I don't have a device yet, if I get one it would be pretty much a development only device, so I am trying to get my feet wet with an app or 2 before I decide to get one. I did manage to get a few minutes with a G1 today and I must say that the device feels so much better than my Titan, that capacitive touchscreen is awesome.
Once I get something going I will startup a new project on google code so I can take advantage of the free svn server and start posting my progress

Capacitive touch screens feel great and and quite responsive but they do have their caveats too. The main one is that accuracy of input is lower than with a stylus. You'll have to keep that in mind when you design the UI. You can scale the size of the emulator on screen to match an actual G1's physical screen size (emulated pixels might be mangled though).

Hi, I got some feedback about colours legibility, so I've added a poll about it.
My idea was to colour code data, in order to avoid repeating labels.
Even if you don't want to install it, I would be grateful if browsing the video you could leave a feedback here. Thanks
Hi again,
we are in the process of adding more locations worldwide. We would like to get (if possible) feedback if you are finding your particular location or at least a close one. Next update will geolocate you and find close locations.
Live Tiles
Hi again. I get quite a bit of feedback, both in comments and via email, about the absolute _imperial_ need of a live tile, without which no application should be published !
Just to make things clear: the live tile is coming, but there are a few more important sections and improvements that should be taken care of. Moreover, there is a good reason why it takes a bit to implement and why people are reticent to do so: it just doesn't work reliably yet. It has been clear now for some months, that push notifications in the current form have met the obstacle of carriers network management and while the issue is being worked on and improved, they're still not very reliable. Basically the network operator doesn't want to keep the connection open for push notifications too much and on the other side the ms protocol is failing to 'force' the network to comply.
Some more informations here: http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_phone/b/wpdev/archive/2011/02/17/push-notification-status.aspx
Again, the live tile is coming, it has been working almost ok for a month on my test unit. But really, while impressive and cool, there are more useful updates to provide first.
Hi, this application is quite complete regarding forecasts. Are you planning to include webcams at some point ?
Yep, webcams are planned for the future updates, not in the upcoming one, though, maybe the one afterwards
The problem in implementing them is that you can't just link random webcams on the web, you have to get a list with permissions given from the owners
Updated today with GPS location, autorefresh, news feeds and some other stuff.
Coming up: webcams

Thanks a ton. You're right about farenheit degrees, considering I've already implemented english language.
Zoom for maps was implemented at the start, then the fact that it wouldn't work very well with the swipe gesture and the relatively readability of the maps made me remove it. Do you think they need zooming because you can't read them well enough ?
Scalable text in which section ?
No-ad was an idea from the start, however we're considering releasing every future feature (live tile, etc) for free anyway.
Thanks for the feedback

Any chance and, if yes, how to do it ??
I installed it today... very nice graphs! the only thing I still need to do is to see if the forecast is indeed right... if it is, and when the live tile comes on, I may even cancel my daily e-mail forecast from my preferred forecaster

hehe thanks good to know. I'm obviously very unrelated to those that provide the forecast itself, but in the weeks I've tried it, it seems to me it works even better than the other more famous italian provider (more famous for consumer-level, actually this is a lot more business-level).
Try to avoid updating the forecast for 24/48 hours and see if the 'now' detail is correct !

Again, thanks for the offer

Ok, looking for translators for french and spanish. I can read both but I'm not sure about syntax in writing.

Hi again,
I'm striving to pass the next update through certification, however it seems (as reported by some) that certification parameters have become more tight recently and they won't let you pass the small things as before.
This is maybe good, but that also means that it might take a while to 'fix' the application, especially in the most complex parts, i.e. it's not that the updates aren't coming, it's just that it needs some polishing.
As mentioned, next update includes webcams, the one after that 'could' include live-tiles, if there isn't any other important weather data to include in the application.
Victory ! Certification passed in record time this once !
That's weird, it took only one day...
First post updated as soon as I'm home
Really nice app. Are you going to release also a paid version ad free?
Hail the Mighty Lords of XDA!
I have heard that XDA forums are the great fount of wisdom when it comes to mobiles/smart phones, tablets and the like, and have come as a novice seeking guidance from the masters. I beseech you to have patience with my (currently) limited knowledge and in return, I will do my best to learn as quickly as I can.
I know very little at this point (though I have found the Glossary and Terminology pages at the Wiki) but I don't mind doing my own reading and stuff if y'all can point me in the right direction. A big part of it right now is just that I don't know who or what is trustworthy, except that you guys have an excellent reputation
I recently got a Dell Streak 7 WiFi only from Amazon.com (no T-Mobile connections or apps.) I'm really loving it, but there are a few things that I would love to be able to change if I can figure out how. Here are the ones I'm most interested in at the moment:
REMOVING PRE-INSTALLED APPS: There are several apps that came with the device that I have no desire to use and would like to remove. I understand that this will involve "rooting" the device, but the instructions I've found on how to do that are confusing and I've seen references to apps that are supposed to do it in one-click, but the reviews have been mixed and its hard to tell if the instructions or apps are for the Streak 5 or Streak 7
SETTING DEFAULT PROGRAMS: My Streak came with 2 email programs (a "generic" one and Gmail) as well as a generic browser. On the home page at the bottom of the screen is a widget that has an email icon, the thingy you touch to get to all the apps on your device and a browser icon. Is there any way to assign a specific e-mail client and specific browser to those buttons?
ASSIGN ICONS TO FOLDERS: When I make a custom folder, is there a way to assign an icon to it as a visual way of identifying it?
GET T-MOBILE'S QIK VIDEO CHAT: While my Streak isn't connected to T-Mobile, they are the company we use for our cellphones. I like the Qik video client T-Mobile installed on our MyTouch4G phones and would like to be able to use it on my Streak as well (so I don't have to maintain separate video chat friends lists and make sure everyone has the right software.
If you've actually made it this far, first off, THANK YOU for your patience I'm sorry it's so long, but I just wanted to get it all out there to start with.
Any other suggestions are more than welcome, as well as links to any other references.
Thanks!

Hi mates!
My LG G Watch R just arrived yesterday and i've already installed some cool things and is looking and working very well! i'm very happy with it!
Anyhow, i have some questions, if anyone know the answer to some of my questions:
1 - Twitter
I am a twitter user, not much as a person who tweets, but a consumer of tweets (news, etc).
I've installer the recommended Bunting, but it is more focused on writing tweets than checking our feed.. they show up but it only shows me the last item and i cannot navigate to see more (once it showed me the second one, and i never managed to that again).
So i found tweetwear, which is focused on the feed, and is way better than bunting but it also only shows be a little list of the feed.. about the first ten items..
Do you know any good client to check the feeds?
2 - Google +
I have the same usage as on twitter.. for this i never found any client.. does it even exists?
3 - Keyboard?
So i am Portuguese, and although i always have my systems in english, when i write a text i write in portuguese. This does not allow me to answer by voice text.
Is there a way to have a keyboard that will let me answer directly from the watch? I know it will not be fast or anything very usable, but for quick answers lik "ok, i'll be there" it's more than enough..
Thanks!
Boas
Microsoft is working on a keyboard for android wear, but the R is not supported yet AFAIK (you can try, I'll try it myself this weekend).
As for the news feeds I agree, we need some apps to see FB / TWTR / etc feeds and a PDF reader wouldn't hurt either.
