Hi.
I already had cyanogenmod 4.2.7.1 installed on my G1 as well as Radio: 2.22.19.26I and SPL: 1.33.2005
so i wanted to install Hero Droid 2.1 ROM to check out what`s new in Android 2.1.
After install my g1 stuck on "android" screen, so i wanted to get back to cyanogen 4.2.7.1 but after wipe and install new rom, my G1 now stucks on "G1 t-mobile" screen..
i still have acces to recovery and bootloader mode but i dont know what to do to get it back to life.. please help me..
OK, as long as you can still access your Recovery menu then you're not bricked.. so smile lol.
Rememeber, before you install the Cyanogenmod 4.2.7.1 ROM you need to install the HTC 1.6 Dev Rom first.
HTC took it off their website, i have it uploaded on my site...
do this: ( This is for HTC Dream (G1) )
CLEAR YOUR EXT PARTITION or REPARTITION YOUR CARD to get rid of any Incompatible files.
Download CM 4.2.7.1 -> http://www.myhangoutonline.com/downloads/?did=17
Download HTC Dream Image 1.6 -> http://www.myhangoutonline.com/downloads/?did=6
Place them both on the root of your SDCard.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode...
1. WIPE
2. Install HTC Dream Image
3. Hit Reboot when it's done (and keep an eye on the phone!)
4. you will see the little picture with an arrow (radio installation), WHEN YOU SEE THE PHONE REBOOT HOLD THE HOME KEY. It should reboot right back into recovery.
5. Now install the CM ROM
6. Reboot and you're done...
Hope that helps!
Thank You!
i was just thinking about posting this solution because thats the things i have done, after i calm down thinking its bricked ^^
so i hope that this solution you have posted will help other users in the same situation.

This is not quite correct. While you are flashing the HTC img, the phone will install the img file and automatically return you to your recovery menu screen. (no reboot). Once you are back at the recovery menu, immediately flash the CM 4.2.7.1 update. When this is done, it will automatically return you to your recovery menu screen again. Now you hit HOME+BACK to reboot (do not use the trackball to reboot). Once you start the reboot, the HTC will then flash the radio portion. Once that is done, the phone will reboot automatically and return you to your recovery menu. After all of this is complete and you are looking at your recovery menu again, hit HOME+BACK again to reboot normally.

Not true.. At the time i did it, i was using CM Recovery... it would install the rom as normal and you HAD to hit reboot for it to start installing the radio then it'll return you to the recovery and at the bottom of the recovery white text came out that said "cache updated" or something like that... follow the steps I gave you before. that's how they work.
Sockpuppet is right you shouldn't reboot inbetween the dev phone image and cyanogens build.

You don't reboot in between... you have to click reboot just so it installs the radio, then it automatically goes back into recovery so you can install CM.
Just do this: follow the steps.. if when you select the HTC ROM and click install, if you see it install the radio, then go ahead and do the CM update next with no reboot... if you DON'T see it install the radio, then click reboot. it'll install the radio and automatically go right back into recovery, then install CM rom...
that should settle that lol.
you don't let it install the radio before applying the CM update otherwise you are running the risk of a brick. It has been noted in several cases in the past. You let the first half of the HTC img do its thing, then apply CM update, THEN reboot. Now the radio will install and boot you back into recovery. Now you can just reboot as normal.

[Guide] How to for "1-click rooting" -Read Before Making a Thread about 1-click root
This only applies to the HTC Dream/ T-Mobile G1, flashing the Hard SPL to any other phone will BRICK your phone. if you want to do this for the MyTouch 3G then read up on the rooting process for it, so that you will have a better understanding of what you need! Some rational thought and logical reasoning is needed to do this or any other hack to your phone.
If you think that doing any part of this will brick your phone then please ask your question first in this thread. Either that or somewhere around the top of the screen is a button that kill a man in the wrong hands (search), use it or leave a reply or pm me if you are not entirely sure of what you are doing.
Hopefully this will help with the numerous amounts of questions about one click rooting.
Please ask any questions pertaining to one click root in this because it will be easiest for me to see what you have done and where you are stick or what your question is pertaining to. Thank you.
Disclaimer: I have not done this by this method, but from what I understand this is how you should do it. Also I am not responsible to any damage to anyone's phone. If you do this to a mytouch 3G and it gets bricked because you flashed the Hard SPL to it, then I will laugh at you because you cannot read (GMT -5 12:39pm 8-25).
Now to begin with...
1. Download Cyanogen's latest stable release from here.
2. Place that file on the root of your sdcard i.e. the up most folder or the one that appears when you open it on your computer. or not in a folder on your sdcard
3. Go to the market and download Recovery Flasher, or download it from here if it has already been shut down on the market.
If you get it from here make sure to go to settings-applications-and check unknown sources and hit ok in the box that pops up.
To install it from the sdcard ( for simplicity put the file on the root of your sdcard again) just find it with a file manager ( I like Astro) and select it then select install.
4. Run the Recovery Flasher app.
5. Click make a back-up first in case something goes wrong (second button).
6. Click install recovery image (first button)
7. Power your phone down.
8. Hold home and power to boot into recovery.
9. Select apply any .zip from sd.
10. Select the Cyanogen ROM you placed on there from step 2.
11. Hit home to flash it after selecting it.
12. When it is done flashing hit reboot system now with the trackball or hold home and power to reboot the phone.
13. The initial boot up after a rom can take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. If it takes over 15
press send, menu, and power at the same to time to reboot then hold home to boot into recovery. if you cannot manage to do this for some reason then yank the battery and hold home and power to boot into recovery.
select wipe data/factory reset, hit home to apply
Reflash the rom from the above steps.
Reboot and wait for it to boot up.
14. When the phone boots up and is usuable, if you had to do a factory wipe then you will have to sign into google again. if not then your phone should be good to go from there
if you didn't wipe and get a lot of force closes then you will need to power down your phone and wipe by booting into recovery (home and power) then select wipe data/factory default, then hit home to wipe, then reflash CM 4.0.1 after the wipe and reboot when it is done flashing.
15. To check your Radio, go to settings-about phone-baseband version the second part of that number will be 2.22.19.26I if you have the new radio. If it is not that number then download the latest radio from the HTC website
16. place the radio on the root (not in a folder on your sdcard) of your sdcard.
17. power down your phone and boot into recovery.
18. apply the radio by going to flash any .zip from sd, then select the radio file, then hit home to flash.
19. when the radio is done flashing, reboot with home and back.
20. Now that you are rooted and have a rom and the latest radio on your phone there is one more important matter to take care of, flashing the Hard SPL.
21. Download the Hard SPL
22. put it on the root (not in a folder on your sdcard) of your sdcard.
23. power down your phone and boot into recovery.
24. apply the Hard SPL by going to apply any .zip, then select the hard spl, and hit home to apply it
25. After the Hard SPL is flashed, reboot the phone by holding home and back.
26. Enjoy. You have a rooted phone that has the SPL and Radio requirements it needs.
If you would like to know about partitioning your sdcard look at this guide and skip down to the part about partitioning your sdcard.
If I have left something out please let me know and I will update this post to include it. Thanks.
i r newb, hear me roar..
wondered if you, good sir or some other nice guru would mind helping me.. im new to this whole rooting business.. i have a stock uk t-mobile g1 with nothing moded at all..
so what does this recovery flasher actually do? does it mean i dont have to downgrade to rc7?
what do you do about getting a theme? and is easy to switch themes?
i think you have forgotten the nandroid backup step before flashing rom?
many thanks, please excuse my newbieness
when you place the radio or the hard spl into your root of your sd card do you have to rename it to update or just put it like it is???
Thanks for this. I was actually piecing the info together myself from various threads on here. Just a quick question, would you recommend creating the ext2 partition before or after flashing the rom?
@APEX.7 it flashes the recovery image to your phone allowing you to skip downgrading. if you nandroid before flashing a modded rom, well i guess it would you stock back since i have never tried that i would not know, but i will add in OP later about amking one. To flash a theme just put it on root of sdcard and boot into recovery and flash like you would anything else. To wipe the theme just flash the rom over it.
@forken you do not have to rename to update.zip with cyanogen's 1.4 recovery image
@esskaypee you can make the ext2 partition before flashing the rom but given the nature of 1 click root that if you leave recovery without a modded rom it might revert back to stock reocvery so as long as you do not reboot without a modded rom you are safe. I think cyanogen's rom will detect the partition and do it automaticallly when you add one but if it doesn't just reflash the rom to activate a2sd after making the ext2 partition.
Sorry for lack of better explanations and grammer but i'm at work on my g1 right now.
Thanks David!!!

I typed up something like this in that silly guide in the dev secion. For funzies I'll post it here too:
THIS METHOD SHOULD ONLY BE USED WITH THE G1/DREAM AND NOT THE SAPPHIRE/MyTouch
Backup all needed files from you SD card
Download and install Recovery Flasher
Open up recovery flasher and click flash recovery
Download the newest radio and place on root of SD card
Download Hard SPL and place on root of SD card
Download ROM of choice (Recommend Cyan 4.0.1) and place on root of SD card
Turn off phone
Boot in recovery holding HOME+POWER button
Select "apply any zip from sd" using either your trackball or pressing Alt+A
Select the radio file and install
After installation press HOME+BACK to reboot into recovery
Select "apply any zip from sd" using either your trackball or pressing Alt+A
Select the Hard SPL .zip file and install
After installation press HOME+BACK to reboot into recovery
Once in recovery wipe by hitting either Alt+W or scrolling with trackball
Select "apply any zip from sd" using either your trackball or pressing Alt+A
Select your ROM and install
After installation press HOME+BACK
There you go you are rooted with the newest rom! If you wanna go advanced and flash Haykuro's SPL then just follow this.
With your phone off, turn on holding CAMERA+POWER
Somewhere in the top-right you should see either PVT or DVT written somewhere. If you have a DVT board, stop reading because you can't flash this new SPL. If you have a PVT board then just follow along
Download the newest radio and place it on the root of your SD card
Download Haykuro's SPL and place it on the root of your SD card
Download the rom you are currently running right now and place it on the root of your SD card
Reboot in recovery
Select "apply any zip from sd"
Select and install your RADIO file and hit HOME+BACK when finished
Once you're in recovery again select "apply any zip from sd" again and choose the SPL file and install. After installation press HOME+BACK
Once you get into recovery again select "apply any zip from sd" once again and choose your ROM file. After installation press HOME+BACK
You're done!
EDIT:
Another thing for the new people beginning to root. If you guys decide to take the time to root then take the time to learn the information needed before flashing anything and not expect to be catered just because you are new. All the info for all you're little question are out there. Just put in the effort to search. If you don't want to put in the effort to search for the info then don't bother rooting.

they are flashing the hard spl in this guide. why would the radio be needed before the hard spl? when i rooted my phone i used the hard spl then the new radio was released a month or so after. anyways i think most of them will have the new radio anyways.

It's always good to check if the latest radio is installed, but for anyone with an unmodded phone this should be the case as it was part of past updates.
I'm going to root my G1 shortly & will report back with my findings. I have however made lots of research, so I don't expect there to be any problems.
help pls
can some1 tell me do i need to install hard spl and ota radio if everything after installed CM 4.01., recovery 1.4 and dark hero theme works ok?
if i have to do that pls tell me step by step how...
thx
Hey Guys,
i've installed CM 4.0.1 and Recovery 1.4 (with Recovery Flasher), but without Hard SPL and OTA Radio before, after that installed Dark Hero Theme and all works ok.
can some1 tell me do i need reinstall everthyng and install hard spl and ota radio, and how can i do that?
thx
Right, I'm now also a proud owner of a rooted G1. Everything went without a hitch. I did not install radio (had the newest) and no SPL (not planning on changing the Rom from Cyan).
@sasa3791 look at steps 16 through 25 in OP. to flash something boot into recovery (home and power), go to apply any .zip from sd, select the name of your file, hit home to apply, then reboot using home and back. i will update OP with this info later.
@esskaypee glad its working
@everyone who thinks they do not need the hard spl. i hope you never want to try another rom other than cyanogen's. yes i know they are nice but they make nandroid so if something goes wrong or if you want to play with other roms. also i hope that none of you ever need fastboot since the stock spl is apparently so great.
noobie question but whats puttin an file on the root mean? (english not my first language)
thanks
plus can you install a theme like you install a rom in the recovery boot?

Putting a file on the root of the card means just put it on the card in no folders.
Yes just install a theme like a rom, just make sure the theme is compatible with the rom.

Yea,
I should have assumed it would be the same procedure as on the G1, I went and followed the original post and bricked my MT3G. Gonna get another one and be sure to FLASH RADIO FIRST BEFORE SPL. Besides this minor hiccup, everything has been great. Thanks to everyone for all the help and great information.

you manually root the mytouch with the haykuro's spl which is the one for the sapphire which, guess what, is the same phone as the mytouch with more ram basically. i will go back and note in the OP that this only applies to htc dream/ t-mobile g1. could that be the reason i put it on the dream section?

you can start by searching
Is it bricked?
So
8. Hold home and power to boot into recovery
Worked great.
I decided to make a backup
After making the backup i cleared everything and
Told the phone to put back the backup.
Placing back the backup worked fine as well.
Then I rebooted... and the phone hangs in the "android" screen.
When I boot with “Home” and “On” button pressed I get a default android question mark screen.
So I decided to do it the old-fashion way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480. I tried both the RC29 and the RC7 version but I after the rainbow screen I get a white screen saying loading, then checking and then saying "not allow" with a red "00028002" above it.
I would love to have see my phone work again so any help is appreciated.
Alright.
Title basically explains it all. I'm not an expert at messing around with my phone, but I'm not a novice either.
I do everything through trial and error. My phone has the correct Radio and SPL. Yes, I flashed the Radio before the SPL. The phone isn't bricked because it will go into recovery mode. But apart from that, it's all that it will do.
I was running RA's V1.5.1 recovery. Now it's at JFV1.43.
I think my mistake was trying to update from ADP1 straight into Cyanogens 4.2.7.1.
I had a ADP1 phone and tried to update to Cyanogens 4.2.7.1, and everything just went downhill from there. I never managed to accomplish my set goal, which was to flash and run Cyanogens 4.2.7.1.
Then when that didn't work. I tried downgrading to RC29 and just re-rooting my phone. By this time I was running RA's recovery V1.5.1. That went as planned until I flashed the latest radio and spl and wanted to upgrade to the modified version of RC30. I flashed the RC30 ROM. At this time, it wouldn't get past the blinking Android screen with the bot. I thought it kept on getting stuck there because it required the hard spl. Whether the latest spl and the hard spl are the same thing, I don't know. I flashed the hard spl. That's where my stupidest mistake probably happened. That's when my phone decided it didn't want to go past the G1 screen when rebooting/booting.
Is there anything I can do in order to fix this? And can someone explain to me a proper method of flashing Cyanogens 4.2.7.1 ROM? Is there anyway I can connect with my phone through adb on JFV1.43 recovery and just flash RA's V1.5.1 recovery through there and push a new ROM?
Frustration builds. Lol.
What I want to have on my phone is RA's V1.5.1 recovery with Cyanogen's 4.2.7.1 with the Eclair theme.
Many thanks in advance to whomever decides to grant me some much needed help.

I'll try that and see how it goes. One question though, do I rename them to "update.zip" like always, or no? I'm gonna get an sd card reader to follow through with the procedure you gave me.
Thanks a lot.
If you are still showing recovery JF1.43, update your recovery first to either AR 1.5.1 or CM1.4. Once that is done, you won't need to rename anything, just select the update any zip option from recovery.
Dont reboot in between the htc image & cyanogen rom..It even says that on his site..This is what to do..
1. wipe
2. update from and zip the pick the htc image
3.update any zip and pick the cyanogen rom
4.Now reboot
5.should go to recovery and reboot one more time
6.Bam your done and no one got hurt either

The links posted aren't working for some reason. I tried going to the website to look them up and no go. If I can just get a proper link to download the HTC 1.6 Dev Rom I should be good to go.

Dear XDA devs and readers,
After rooting my G1 with the RC8 rom and the hardSPL + latest Radio 2.26I
my phone wont go past the G1 startup screen after flashing higher version of cyanogen 4.04. happily ive done a nandroid backup with the standard ROOTED ROM.
i redone the procedure with set factory default dreamNBH.img and the wipe functions.
it have worked before with cyanogen 4.2! after installing TMO custom the problems begun.
Edit: things i tried:
reset to default wit the DREAMNBH
Wipe/factory
reflash different versions
changed SDCARD (htc gold)
"adb logcat" is good for diagnosing stuff.

It sounds like you need to install HTC's 1.6 recovery image (not on HTC's website but it's floating somewhere on XDA) before installing any of the Cyan's roms (due to C&D notice from Google).
So, you need to
Factory reset
Re-format and re-partition SD
Flash HTC 1.6 recovery image
Flash Cyan of your choice
Should work.
Good luck

2. install the root acces with the pimped recovery 1.4
3. save the dev 1.6 to SD
4. Flash the DEV 1.6

Just by using a pure logic.... shouldn't you follow all the same steps if you have the same problem??? Letting us know that you have that problem will not make it go away. Besides, nobody can help you if you don't tell us how you got to this point. What rom did you have and what did you try flashing?
Hi Everyone,
This is my first time attempting to root my nexus one.
I used the One-click root application posted on these forums and the ROM manager to try and install Cyanogen 6.0RC2. Now my phone boots into the loading screen with the particles flying together to form an x, followed by the same animation in blue instead of the android colors, with a skateboarding android icon in the center. About 10 seconds later, it seems to fail and go back to the multi-colored animation. This loop continues forever until I yank the battery.
How do I get back to a working environment?
Did you install the froyo baseband?
Did you have 2.2 on before you installed CM6?
Did you wipe as is recommended by Cyanogen?
Try installing CM6 again THE PROPER WAY... read their post on the forums and then report.
I already had Froyo on here. How do I bust out of this boot cycle to try again?
pull and reinstall battery and boot to recovery
a boot loop is normally caused by an incorrect flash, either by the recovery just being weird or the phone not correctly wiping prior to flashing. Did you make backup before you flashed?
If so here is what you do.
Boot into recovery
go to wipe
wipe "data"
wipe "cache"
and wipe "dalvik-cahe" (so long as you only select these three your sd card will remain untouched)
(if you want to resstore back to stock)
go to restore/backup
hit restore nandroid
select the restore point
(if you want to continue to install CM6)
go to "install zip from sd car"
select the zip
once done install the gapps zip (if you donwloaded it)
reboot
Done
How do I get it to boot into recovery?
When I remove the battery, and then power it on, it goes right back into the boot loop.
Nevermind. It's working now. I think I forgot to wipe first.
Thanks so much for your help, everyone!

I'm trying to install CM on my 2.1 HTC Hero. But whenever I go into recovery I get the red triangle with the exclamation point. Any ideas?
It kinda sounds like you don't have a custom recovery img flashed. Go back to the guide you used to root your phone, then look for the part where they describe how to flash the custom recovery and try doing that again.

I was too getting stuck at it but the solution is pretty simple!
Follow the steps mentioned below to make it work!
1. Install Rom Manager' from market.
2. Open it and click on the first option that is 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery'
3. confirm your phone model and wait till it gets installed. After installation you will get a message that installation is complete.
4. Now go to the option 'Backup current ROM'; give a name and click ok to the message that your phone will restart!
5. now your phone will boot into recovery and do the backup
6. now to install a custom image, copy the image zip on your sd card
7. do the steps 2 and 3 again.
8. now select the option Install ROM from SD card and do the rest steps.
The above steps work. Just note that the key here is to install recovery image everytime the phone start as long as you are on the custom ROM.
Let me know if this worked for you!

Not necessary to flash your recovery every time. Once is all you need if your recovery works.

Yep...provided you don't RUU or wipe the recovery for some reason every time you flash a rom.
