Don't mean to bring up an old post. I noticed it when I created an new thread. No one has an recommendations for an app?

[Q] How to Rename Application for Root Users

I've searched this and other forums and still can't ffigure out how to change an applications name for a Rooted G1. I've been able to change an application's icon by switiching the .png in the drawtable folder, but where the heck is the apps name info stored?

That is probably going to require either editing the appropriate xml files, or rebuilding the ROM from source to be able to get access to other appropriate files. It may be more trouble than its worth. There may be an app for it, but I am not sure. Maybe someone else can chime in if they know of another way?

That's a possiblility but I couldn't say for sure because I have never used any home replacement apps.

Well its been a long minute since I've used any home replacement but you can still use bettercut on with using open home or ahome. The only thing I'm wondering is when you change the name of the app does it only change on the home screen or in the app drawer to. I'm to lazy to do it myself.

You don't need a home replacement to use Bettercut.

Better Cup isn't a home replacement app, it doesn't require one either.

O, well I know I didn't help either with being confusing. Its one of those days.

bettercut is only for app shortcuts on your home screen, it won't change the name in the app drawer.
BTW does it work without a home replacement app?

Thanks for everyone's help in trying to solve this one. As previous post's have noted; Bettercut will only change the name on the Home screen or App drawer, not in the application list.
How about this...if it's too much trouble to rename, is it easy to hide an application from appearing at all?

No its actually quite easy to keep it from appearing.....uninstall it.

I'm assuming you don't want it appearing in your app drawer? Is that the issue? Are you talking about applications that come on the ROM that you don't want anymore. Please provide not only the end result of what you are looking for, but also a little background and maybe that will help with an answer.

Yes, I did set myself up for that one.
It's a 3rd party app that runs at startup. I would like to hide the app from appearing in the Manage Application menu. Thanks again!!

You can use the modified launcher to hide installed apps from the app drawer but I dont think you can hide from the manage applications section.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but is there an app to replace the in-call app? I think it's rather ugly and it's the last thing I need to replace to get my phone looking perfect.

you mean the app you make calls with?
- Check out Dialer One .. my favorit!
highly customizeable and you can change colours and themes as you wish ..
i think there is also an app called " go dialer " not sure tho ..

I already use GO Dialer, but when I hit call it ask to "dial out" and goes to the default android (in-call?) app. Thanks for the suggestion though

Oh that! That's normal it's in the case you lost the schema for unlocking your phone, you can still call the emergency.
I don't think you can move that thing :/

I think there has to be a way to remove it completely. on Wanam Xposed (module for Samsung devices) there's an option to remove it. I don't usually mind the button but this positioning is madness.

I agree with the OP, it's the worst place for the emergency call.

I hate bumping my own thread but this is extremely annoying. Any idea to remove this would be very much appreciated!

I think its a legal requirement in some countries to have an emergency call button on the lockscreen. However, there will be a way of doing it.
Please send me a copy of your Home.apk and settings.apk I will see if I can have a look for you

Maybe ur can create some shorcut for password unlocking like press xxxxx in SOS dialer to unlock our phone in case we forget or cant unlock phone in normal way. The xxxxx part can change by the user:good::good::good:

What?

HOW TO Change Default DIALER? (to custom)

I've downloaded several dialer and reset the defaults in the app setting.. but when i dial a number, only the phone,pinger,skype are my option not the custom dialer that i've install like rocketdial,dialapp, etc... not of them are showing...
Is there a way to make any custom dialer be my default dialer?

If you just remove the default dialer you'll lose cell connection altogether. Don't do it.
Also, it had only been an hour since you'd posted, expect the most replies at night and in the mid afternoon
