I just can't keep up anymore, there seems to be a bajillion roms and new ones keep getting updated everyday.
why can't we make the rom selection process a little more simple first off with a poll
Which rom are you using?
I would also love for people to rate their roms on a simple scale, this is just an idea
stability: 1-10
Versatility: 1-10
Free Memory: MB
Innovation: 1-10
Worth the upgrade: 1-10
Swiftblade's ROM is already at v5.0/Lite.
I'm using Swiftblade v5.0 Lite and I vote for it 2 hands up!
stability: 9
Versatility: 9
Free Memory: Storage 90MB++, RAM 55MB++
Innovation: 5 (cos its lite therefore not much innovative programs)
Worth the upgrade: 10
1. wrong forum! we do not make polls in "diamond ROM development". this is for..........give you 3 guesses......yes, you guessed... ROM development.
2. the forum is full with this kind of useless threads. why useless? because this is a subjective matter. one looks for speed, other looks for memory and another is looking for the graphics. what is good for me can be terrible wrong for you....clear?
3. i searched and find for you (you didn't bother to search) only a few of the threads that tried to determine which is better:

someone please kill this thread, another pointless poll.
?
I understand your frustrations of noobs taking over your elite site but I still feel this is useful and insightful
all the posts you showed before showed old rom's, now with such a variety out there I wanted to know how the diversity has expanded. Not to show which rom is the best but instead to survey what is out there. If you don't like this thread, just take the poll and ignore it. However when it comes to polls, in the end it's whatever you make of them.
Pointless
Another pointless reply from Kukuriku.
adilkhan1214: Forget about Kukuriku, he has this problem with noob's asking questions! He forgets that when he started this kind of thing he would have asked exactly the same sort of questions.
Like the idea, hope other people take the poll as it will help out new comers quite a bit to see what everyone is using.
Keep asking the questions as there are plenty of helpful people on here, but you will come across a minority that think they own this forum and really have nothing helpful to say and will try and slam you at every oppurtunity.
By the way, I am using the SwiftBL WWE Diamond v5.0. Very smooth and stable ROM, really recommend it.

The point is, just like what Kukuriku said, it's a subjective matter. There is no best, worse or somewhere in between ROM. It's for a major part all about look and feel, there is nothing more subjective than that. Why don't you try most of the roms? It's nice to do and you will quickly find out which rom will be the one for you

I know it is subjective, and I am not going to argue over what you may think my intentions are.
It is indeed to find out what people are using and why they use it, diversity is there and I'm open to finding out where the majority of people flock to in their rom choice.
It's like me trying to find out how many Native American Indians are in Nevada and then people yelling at me and telling me to find out more about Native Americans first.
They don't add up
I've flashed my phone probably four time in the last month....
my personal subjective opinion: they don't make that big of a difference
but it's irrelevant, currently I'm trying out Dutty's 1.5 and from this poll it seems that one ROM I didn't yet try is one that a lot of people have so now I know where to head next.
I support this poll too. It's gives a quick pointer to what roms ppl are using. I find it useful in deciding what rom to try next. right now, I'm on bElite 0.97, but might take a swing at SwiftBL while I'm waiting for bElite 1.0
thanks

instead i took the time to post links to similar threads and tried in my (special) way to help you. and you still are complaining, you don't get it. ok......
I like the poll. A rom that is popular and have many votes is probably not bad.
When had a Trinity I used to check the poll to see which rom most people used, and flash that.
To be honest. At the moment i don't see the advantage of using one the custom ROMS.
The new 1.93.xx official ROM works great for me.
I do appreciate all the work the developers are putting in their ROM, and i respect them for that! It's always nice to have options
So, i voted "official ROM"

You need a ROM critic?
Really?
You don't seriously say you need a ROM critic.
If you take the time and bother to search and to go through each custom ROM's thread, you'll find that the first couple of posts are introducing the ROM and the other hundreds of posts are... guess what... wait for it... FEEDBACK on the ROM after people have TRIED it. YES, you are advised to try the ROM and formulate your own opinion instead of posting useless threads that have been posted before. We all look for different things and it's downright impossible for anyone to tell you what the "best" ROM is. Someone might vote for ROM X because it's fast, another one might vote for ROM X because it's got lots of free space and a third person might vote for ROM X because it's in a certain language. THen you go, download ROM X because "everyone says it's good" but you hate it because you need a ROM that doesn't have a certain app you need. See my point?

Your point is what? You want to help every poor soul not installing the wrong rom for their needs? How do you know what ppl want? Why should anyone decide for me what rom I want to flash, or even decide how I can reach my conclusion to why I should flash it.
I have read many of the ROM threads, I still flashed TLR over bElite .95 and found out it wasn't right for me. This poll doesn't tell you which rom is best, it tells you how many ppl are using the different roms. You can then make a decision to look up the rom you find interesting, and flash it if you want. E.g. I'm using bElite .97, I see there's alot of ppl using SwiftBL...hmmm, maybe I should try it out and see if I like it. I go to the SwiftBL thread, read and make a decision. This poll gives a pointer, so I don't need to study every single rom thread to find a popular rom. I still can, but now I have a choice.
Seing how many has voted, it seems that some ppl actually thinks it's a good thing.

perhaps helpfulness and sarcasm doesn't always mix well together?
Well as many of you know I have 2 HTC HD'S and I do a lot of testing on cooked ROM's. Actually I usually flash each device 1-3 times a day. One of the things I noticed is there is a lot of questions in the ROM threads about problems with exchange server, activesync, GPS, bletooth etc which while they are part of the device but may not be due to ROM issues. I also see many new members overwhelmed at the list of new ROM's and trying to decide what to flash. So I have a idea which I think would be good for the community and to the cooks. Why do I spend so much time testing ROM'S? Well I'm Partially Retired from Engineering background and I love my gadgets. I live in Thailand (LOS) and run a small restaurant but I still like to be active with electronics and my gadgets. But most of all I like to share and hopefully be of help to someone.
A repository of all my testing on all the ROM's, and or by any cooks request. I use a very strict and standard set of guidelines to test all ROM's the same every time and equally as to get the best evaluation. The repository would also include detailed information on each ROM such as version numbers of ROM and programs etc, as to let people know what is inside the ROM. Also in the repository would be all of my testing methods and specific test I run on each ROM. All benchmark test and performance test will be calculated by an average of 3-5 tests for more accuracy. For ROM's that don't have specific features it will be indicated in N/A. I would also take request for specific testing on a specific ROM, by members and by cooks.
I have tested so many ROM's and I feel I have wasted much of my time as I can't share and inform people as I would like, in fear that people would think I'm being subjective to one or more persons ROM. So this would be a way for me to share all of my work to the community and it would be a good reference source for cooks to check on other ROMs without having to actually flash every one to see what is inside and what bugs are there.
Now my question to the members would you value such a source?
EDIT: Well after 2 weeks of insane searching and testing I have decided to Cancel the idea above. The big problem being with all the testing tools I bought and tried most of the differences between all ROM's are very small. There are some differences but to the average person looking at the results is just confusing.
The second thing is I have tried every way to build a report database of information but again it just doesn't work without being subjective.
The only part of this which was still worthy was the full list of what is included in each ROM. a Detailed list of all programs and versions and build numbers. Unfortunately this is not enough information alone.
I will still continue to do beta testing and I can do a detailed test upon request.
Good Idea
I think this would be quite useful although how a person finds a rom is quite subjective. I suppose if your listing the haves and have nots then the user can do with the information what they wish.
Great Idea
Hey wanna partner up to help make the blackstone cooked rom list better?

Yes exactly, this is why I will have a very structured list of observation, test results, and general facts. I will want to refrain from making personal opinions as this is then subjective. For example one of the observations might be " Scroll smoothness 1-10 with 10 being the smoothest" I will also welcome a list of things from cooks as they feel would be important observations or test if I miss something.
...having an objective reference is always very useful, also for those that believe that there are many subjective elements to choose a ROM. It is a very challenging activity, and in my opinion it implies a lot of time investment to be done correctly. However, it is indeed "one of the greated ideas i've heard of".
brilliant, I take my hat off to people who can find time in their day to do this kind of thing.
Just dont forget to include which 3rd party apps would be used if any.
Thanks!

Ok Thanks, waiting a few days to see response and word from admin/mod
I think it is an excellent idea.
It would certainly answer a lot of questions before they are asked.
So many ROM's, so little time.
I think this is a wonderful ide.
I myself have problem to deciede wich of...probably 3 ROM I will use.
A list of have/have not comes very handy, and helps me decide which I will choose.
Just a question...
which is the best between, duttys 2.1 Extrem ROM, L26_THDV8.0_WWE Ultimate and Davideuck_V-2_HP,OS 5.2.21028?
This are the ones I choose from...and I can't decide wich is the best.
Another question...Is Rhodium good? Useful? Run smooth on HD.
I've seen some issuse with the home button, anything you have notice with Rhodium?

To start I will test and report on Device functionality and software included in the ROM. If I have time I may take on more test as a separate individual request. This keeps the data I provide close to the same for every ROM.

having said that there's only a handful of 3rd party apps that actually change or modify system files / settings and therefor are worth mentioning, I personally only use PhoneAlarm out of such...the likes of Resco Explorer I was using since the days of HTC Wizard and it never did any harm to any ROM
i agree that a factual objective measurement of each roms +/- qualities would be useful.
if you have the time and inclination to do such a thing, then do it
if the mod/admin team dont want to sticky it, why not create your own website with the info and link it in your sig? id happily link in mine also
although, L26 is still the best (in my subjective opinion )
good luck

Hi!
You said that L26 is the best in your opinion, have you tried Dutty Extreme or Davideuck_V-2?
I'm a bit torned between these three ROMs. I have only tried Duttys Extreme 2.1. These three seems to be the most popular ROMS, thats why I choose between these.
It wolud be very helpful if anyone who has tried these three to give me his/hers view of it.
Davideuck_V-2 seems good and also the new L26 V9.0 seems to be good.
The new Dutty Extreme 2.2 i comming, but nobody knows when. But this version (I think) will not have the new Rhodium
What is the differens between Rhodium and the old one?
Is it only the new start menu? Why should I take a ROM with Rhodium?

Please what you are asking me to do is exactly what I don't want to do. Give a subjective opinion. Yes I have tried all of them more than once. Give me some time and I want to put in place detailed information for all ROM's that way you can see what fits your needs and make your choices. I like all the ROMs but for me to single one out is being subjective and this I will not do.

There are many ROMs out there. And every ROMs is improving with every release. It's hard to keep up which to choose.

Review template ?
Stats are good but as others have said, they can be subjective.
If each user filled in a form (online) where there were categories such as user type, main use for phone, technical aptitude, and then ratings for different categories, it would be possible to extract meaningful results.
For example
User type [professional] [casual user] [gadget freak]
Main use for phone [surfing] [work] [as a phone] [showing off]
Technical aptitude [n00b] [can follow instructions] [program for fun] [professional coder]
Graphics Performance [rating out of 100]
Ease of use [rating out of 100]
Responsiveness [rating out of 100]
Battery Life [rating out of 100]
Desirability [rating out of 100]
Appearance [rating out of 100]
You get the idea. New users and existing users could search these results based on their own priorities, worthy roms could then be chosen etc.
Just my 0.02

What an excellent idea, I'd really appreciate an imparital viewpoint on the different ROMs
hi i just recently purchased a touch hd telstra and am about to flash it with a 6.5 , there are a lot of talented people here with their own versions of 6.5, is there one that is the most standard rom with everything included and which one would that be?
Goodness me, this genre of question is asked two to three times a day, do some of your own investigating and research and in future follow the forum guidelines, dont be so arogant!

If you have to ask, you are probably better off sticking to the default ROM you phone comes with.
i suggest to make a sticky with the title 'NO WHICH ROM TO USE TOPICS HERE!!!!'
but not even that will stop some ppl from posting that ****.
You could even use the word KNOW instead of NO
I have a feeling this thread will be closed soon.
No ROM is the "best". Each excel in some ways and its up to you to decide whats best for you. Its a bit like asking someone for some good music. they will only tell you what they think is good, not necessarily what is good for you.
what does this mean? youre gonna have to try them all and see which you like most (shouldnt take more than an hour or so as there arent that many)
I know this have been discussed before but I cannot get a clear answer by searching this forum, googling etc.
I have been flashing many of the custom roms and they are all great work but I have too many crashes everyday. Right now maybe 3-4/day !
Usually the roms works better in the beginning but then gets worse by time.
I use my phone for business and very often I realize that my phone is just dead and no one can call me etc
I love eyecandy like Energy, Valkyrie roms etc but my first priority is stability today.
Which custom rom would you say is the most stable today ?
also .. I cannot find the last generic rom version. Link doesnt work?
Thx,
Pete
most chefs will say their rom is not bugless.. if you use your phone for business and important calls, guess you should stick to stock 6.1 or rather have a second phone
those labeled as final and unchanged for a few months or as stated above - stick to stock
sounds highly contradictory aiming for a stable and mostly bugless rom while still flashing latest wm betas...
search for generic in gtrab thread, those are not latest r3a but at least dl works
...and was it really necessary to open a new thread for these "insights"?

Sorry I didnt mean to offend or upset anyone. Just politely asking a question.
There are many many great roms but I just need to find if you find one/some particular more stable. Offcourse I accept some bugs etc but my problem is that the phone just dies several times each day.
Great work though to all chefs !

Another useless thread reported.
It could have been useful without all the ignorant no content answers.
You start a thread if you need answers that you are not able to find.
ie this forums sticky to generic roms is no valid.
Comparing roms from user experience is not useless.
Like a review with SE X10 vs HTC Desire.
Your answer would have been. Buy the both I am not gonna help you!
Thanks for the info I got though !

Start with the threads with the most views or top most threads (i.e., still alive). Read the very first post, view screen shots, feature lists, bug fixes, updates, etc. Then jump to the very last page to see what sort of issues people are reporting. Some are deal breakers, and some aren't. At least you can page back a few to see if the author plans an update. Even with my post count, I never ask people what to recommend. It's something too many people ask, so I end up finding those threads first!
Custom ROM images are free for many reasons, and the biggest drawback is the lack of guarantees that the builds are bug fee.
There are generic, stripped-down ROMS... you'll need to search for those or look at the stickies.
My favorite custom ROM is Touch X 10.9.1. I've had it for a few months after trying at least 3 different ROMs.
Thanks for a great answer !
I asked for the "most stable" suggestion that means I understand that they are not bugfree or totally stable.
Itje and Wildchild seems to be high contenders.
Anyway, sorry for this thread and thanks !
I promise you I have read a lot.
I joíned 2008 and this is my first thread.

@all: One thing more annoying than a question that has been asked many times before is a meaningless flaming answer. Refrain from making it useless. As far I can tell this thread has served it's purpose, and therefore I'll close it.

Hi
What custom ROM would you say is the fastest one out there. Does not matter if its 6.1 or 6.5, just need it to be fast.
Many thanks
826x or dynamics 2.0 any of these i'm currently using 826x latest build and it is blazing fast xD
how about "test them yourself?!"
and how about "ask in the right forum?!" this isn't exactly a dev-related question.
oh, and the fastest rom with what? with sense? without? bare-rom? or do you want applications installed? questions like "which is the fastest?" are pretty useless. or the best. or the most stable.
and above all, they're just plain lazy!
just go and flash the roms that are actively developed. there aren't that many left these days. noone knows how you use your phone and you don't know how other people use their phones. or how many roms they've tried before saying "this is the best".
Well
If you want fast for X1 stay with the original ROM (6.1). It was design for this device so you will get the least bugs and SOD's.
As for me I used Energy and couple other ones, they were OK but after having my device replaced I never got back to flash custom ROM.
I heard 826x is good and so is Dynamics 2.0 (this Dynamics will be releasing new ROM soon...so he said).
@caliban2
I thought this was user friendly forum there is no need for your replay like that.
I agree that every one is using their device different way, but can you image what would happen if people would not voice their opinion? This world would go to crapper dude.
Every opinion counts and maybe you are tech savvy, not every one is, and even you were not born that way, you had to ask questions. Right?
We all make mistakes as some point in our lives, little pointers the right directions are good, but comments like yours don't make friends.
Also I though that in order to ask question in dev forum you need to be some sort of level (like 10 post or something like that).
Like the old saying goes "If you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all."

wrong.
i had to search & read a lot before becoming the 47th person asking the same question again - i think there's something in the rules about that. and how many "best rom/fastest rom"-threads are there now? aren't those in general / q&a section enough? and don't tell me this thread has anything to do with if someone's "tech-savvy"...
but hey, if you guys are happy going through the same topic over and over again - have fun!

Thank you, see was that so hard?
P.S.
As new ROMs are being create "the same topics" are not exactly the same...like ford is not the same this year as it was couple of years back....or even last year.
good thing is:
i don't get any of the bugs reported in here. but then, i'm not really running the same rom.

Does this look familiar? If last year ROMs are as good as this year, why are you using ultrashot kitchen to create new ROM?
Why Energy is updating his every few days?
Why not use jerpelea last years kitchen?
See my point?
in my opinion best custom ROM for X1 is gtrab's SEX1 Pure ROM
It's WM6.5 with Titanium and all XPeria stuff (without Sense). Zero weird customizations, just OS upgrade from WM6.1 to WM6.5.

don't get condescending. i don't think i need your permission or approval, hm?
it ain't hard at all. but at least keep it in the right forum, not dev.
why am i using dynamic-kitchen? because itje stopped cooking, i was using ervius kitchen after that and when ultrashot released his, he made it easy for me to make the switch to osbuilder.
you see? has nothing to do with "last years roms are still good". where did i say that anyway? but what's strange is that in these "best rom"-threads always very old roms are recommended: gtrab stopped cooking a long time ago, and now even stock is good?!
for the rest it simply comes down to personal taste. and how stable a rom is. so, what does it tell you if i say "in the past 2 years i never had a stable rom from agent47, gtrab, nrg or 826x etc. only itje and ultrashot made everyday-roms"?
right, it tells you nothing. because your experience and demands are different. also, saying "this is the best rom of them all" is quite demeaning to all the other cooks which provide you with a choice, don't you think?
but to keep with the thread:
from reading the last few pages of the active rom-threads, it looks like dynamics is the most stable combined with the latest software. 826x-series seems also fast and stable. oh, wait. now it's down again to personal taste, right?

Heheh...you are funny.
Thanks guys for taking the time to reply to my question. And yes, maybe the question was not clear enough when i wrote it for some people.
I am looking for the fastest custom, dont need any preinstalled programs or any fancy things. Its gonna be used on a device to remote control the PC, so the only thing i will be needing is a VNC program, and that i can download by myself.
I actually searched the forums for a related topic before i started this one, and could not find any that was up to date enough. This topic is not like the other ones where people ask "whats the best rom", i am looking for a specific thing in the rom, it needs to be fast.
Anyhow, thanks for the tips for those that replied.
@caliban2, I am looking for other peoples opinons on what they think the fastest rom is, that is one of the things a forum is for, to hear other peoples opinons. Yes, i can test every single rom out there, but i thing its just better to check with the people more involved in the recent roms out there, thus this sub-forum.
that's indeed a different approach... ^^
sounds like you need just a fast barebone phone, with no fancy stuff at all and as much free resources as possible. in that case i think stockrom should be the best choice. winmo 6.1 is less demanding than 6.5, performance-wise.
so either stock or find an old custom-rom from 6.1-era (year 2009; there were a few, gtrab did such stuff and agent47 had one as well, iirc), where most apps were removed and nothing from htc has been added. you could also dump stockrom, remove stuff you don't need and re-cook your own barebone.
and of course, you can always go for a more recent 6.5-barebone, but 6.1 should be the optimum.
well a really fast ROM would be one running a bare WM6.1 or 6.5.x
you could try PURE. his ROMs are very minimalistic and emphasize on speed and functionality. and in my opinion they are very stable too. dont expect TF3D or sense though.
even ENERGY has very minimalistic ROMs. and since he has skinned various versions, u can choose the best one for you.
check these links out and see which u like.

alternately there's another thread i replied too. u may check it out to see if it helps as somebody else asked a similar question to you.

some people just get frustrated and angry sitting whole day long in front of their PC´s and phones it seems. Its a simple question and im here because i have also the same question. Someone whith a brain would start answering wit firts 6.5 or 6.5.3, of course bare , and which one is the fastest. Fast comes from speed and can be interpreted as a lack of delay or retardness, also. Anyhow if you want to give usefull answers or help with your knowledge then proof showing your angor to some real people ine real life.
Best Rom is Dynamics 2.1.
Best ROM
In my opinnion it is the x826 ROM. Before this rom is used the Energy Rom but, batterie life is not good with this rom, so I installed x826 ROM, it was faster, and more batterie friendly and I never had any error or freeze.
In my opinnion it is the x826 ROM
826x and happy camper. Been using it for about 2 months and it's working just fine for me.
i think official rom the best but energyRom and 826x is nice rom too,,,,
I tried almost every rom.but the best in speed with good programs is dynamics 2.2.0...u must forget about sense, the best with sense is 826x but have some problems.energy is full of useless programs
