Is there anyway to enable orientate ONLY in messaging/texting? I hate when the phone orientates (it bugs me sometimes, so I disable it), but everytime I need to text, I have to enable it again.
I know spare parts has an option for enabling/disabling launcher orientate, but is there one for messaging/texting?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I know Handcent has an option to only autorotate on the pop-up screen. So as long as the pop-up message is in front the screen will auto-rotate.
I agree this would be a great feature to implement into cooked Roms I think.
I use a MT3G and the only time i want my screen to rotate is when im texting or writing email. Besides that It annoys me when other apps rotate for no reason with the accelerometer.
I actually wouldnt mind if Gmail, Email and Messaging just locked into landscape mode 100% of the time and left the accelerometer out.

Does anyone know of an application in which you can disable Auto-Rotation on just the Home Screen instead of disabling it altogether?
It disables the Auto-Rotation in all of your programs if you disable it in settings. This gets annoying if you go into your gallery.
Maybe there is a program that can change the auto rotation properties of specific apps.
Thanks for your help guys.

depends on what launcher you are using....what launcher are you using?
Beautiful widgets has a toggle widget for disabling/enabling auto rotation. But I'm pretty sure there's no app to apply rotation restrictions to specific apps. But search google and see if you can find anything. It also does depend on the launcher in some cases. Are you rooted, running 2.1/2.2/2.2.1 roms or anything?
This would be a great idea for someone to make into an app if it doesn't exist. I too would like to disable home screen rotation, but still be able to use the landscape keyboard and such in other apps without having to change the settings.
if you use a different launcher like launcher pro or adw, those settings are available to you. if you use froyo or gingerbread launcher, it doesnt rotate.
I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I run the stock 2.2 launcher and I prefer it over LP and ADW. I know I am able to completely turn Auto-Rotate on or off, but I would just need it off for the home screen (maybe the browser and messaging too). It gets annoying turning it off and going into the gallery and not being able to view in landscape mode. I also don't want to have to continuously be toggling a widget or going into my settings. I'm rooted, and I assume such a program would require full permissions.
I guess it hasn't been made yet.

stock 2.2 launcher? like the froyo launcher? or touchwiz?
We are in the Captivate thread, so... Touchwiz. It's the "stock" launcher of the Captivate.
Not that your question needed to be answered because it doesn't have any relation about what this thread is about.
If you're running 2.2, the pulldown menu at the top should have the auto rotation toggle in it. It's really not that much of a hassle. Swipe down. Disable. Swipe the menu closed. Carry on about your business. If there's an app or one gets created, it's always going to be running in the background no matter if you have the "disable app" to work with one app or forty apps, and it's just gonna be lurking there in the bushes, getting ready to take your battery from behind with no lube. No lube at all.

wow. i apologize for trying to understand what you are running....you know, since 'STOCK' means different things around here....and it absolutely pertains to what this thread is about
carry on. sorry to be of some major burden to you....
Honestly, "stock" does have about 6 or 7 different meanings and implementations around here.
I dont know what you are necesarily refering to here, but what I would like is a widget or icon that I can put on my homescreen that would allow me to just move from auto sensor to portrait only for my homescreen, not the whole system. I know that it can be enabled through most launcher settings, like LP and ADW and GO Launcher, but if there were to be a shortcut to toggling this it would be awesome
Word to the wise. When asking other people a question you really want the answer to, don't act like an arrogant sob. Be it one sentence or an entire explanation. There taking time out to help you. Take me for instance. I was going to dig pretty hard for a solution to this partly for you and partly for a friend that likes stock over lp. But after reading all your posts you just come off as an obnoxious brat. Of the two of you Im only going to give the solution i find (if any) to one of you. Take a wild guess at who won't get it.
All I was getting at is he's asking these questions when I was just wondering if there was an app that would stop the home screen from auto rotating but leave everything else defaulting.
It's a simple question. It has nothing to do with running a different launcher, I already know LP and ADW do such a thing, but I don't want to use them. That's why I was asking.
I wasn't asking for a launcher, I was asking for a background app like "Keep the Lights on" or "Set CPU."
I'm sorry for coming off as "arrogant" or a "snob" but he's digging too deep, asking questions he doesn't need the answer to. As well, his questions came off kind of rude to me. That's probably why I responded the way I did.
Anyways: Simple app that stops home screen rotation.
Smart Rotator (SmartDog Studio HK) and Smart Auto-Rotate (Asteri Software) are possible solutions.
Enough of the Off Topic posts and rudeness, I will not tolerate it.
Also to solve the problem, not sure if this is available on the Captivate, there is an extra button you can enable in the Power Control widget that allows you to lock the screen vertically.
A nice quick camera app is "quickest camera". Unfortunately with no camera button on the i9000 and a lock screen it takes about 10 seconds to respond and then usually the moment has gone.
The best I can do do far is to:
use Tasker to
sense when the phone is on it's left side (a gesture is another way)
disable the lock screen
...and then run quickest camera.
(the screen is automatically relocked)
However:
- this happens everytime you put the phone on it's side so no landscape mode
- setting a button combination like vol down + power only while in the lockscreen would be quicker and probably save battery but I only see buttons as a task not a context...
- quickest camera isn't that quick. An app thatdoes use any UI might be quicker

Ok... no responses.
Thinking laterally, any of the Gingerbread alternative unlock screens can do it but none afaik can maintain a pattern or code unlock as well as the quick camera.
Edit to avoid bump:
Its possible to set shake to camera but it costs a bit of battery. Personally I'd like it to only do this when lock screen is on but I can't get tasker to detect the lock screen... please throw me a bone

I know this is really old... but having just started getting really into tasker I was kind of excited to respond. LOL.
So here's what I'd do, you CAN in the curent version of tasker detect if the screen is OFF and therefore it's presumed the lock would be activated... The way I currently run my tasker set up is off of variables. Basically the logic works like this "if the screen turns off... set the "@LockScreen" variable to "1". So your profile logic would be be... if "LockScreen" variable is 1 AND the phone is shaken, run this particular task (turn on the camera).
If you haven't figured this out yet, I hope this is helpful. Now I'm off to create a variant of this!

Cheers!
I never did get it working so the feedback is much appreciated. I'll give it a go later
Hopefully someone can point out how to fix these.
1. I somehow was able to get the home screen button (without an application) on my Note 3 to open google now with a single click (not a double).
Right now google now opens for me by holding the home button. I would like to get this back to being ONE click of the home button.
2. Any way to disable the vibrate on finger scanner unlock? I hate haptic feedback and have disabled it in all the normal places (sound, keyboard etc) - but I cannot figure out how to get rid of the small vibrate when it unlocks from a fingerprint scan (I don't think the S5 ever did this).
3. For some reason the 'Always on' google now feature is greyed out within the google now settings and says 'This feature currently unavailable for this language'. On the previous screen my language is set to 'Default language: English (US).
Any help would be appreciated.. overall I like the phone a lot. Quick charge, brighter screen and the QHD is very noticeable in certain situations.
*EDIT
Was able to solve #3 by deleting app data associated with google search and resetting up google now
**EDIT 2
Figured out that it was actually NOVA launcher that allowed me to do #1, so got that working now
Anyone been able to get rid of the vibrate with the finger scanner?
For #2.
Go to settings > Sounds > Vibration Intensity
Set Notification to lowest.
I searched around and didn't find these bugs listed. Please direct me to the correct thread if they are repeated -
1. Poweramp lockscreen - the Poweramp lockscreen does not unlock directly; it always unlocks to the phone lockscreen. Fiddling with Poweramp settings does not help.
2. Landscape mode - many times the device stays locked in landscape, even if the device is in portrait view.
3. Lockscreen - This is the worst and absolutely annoying. The 'swipe up to unlock', 'charging' on the lockscreen are so close together they practically intersect. Add 'owner's info' and woe betide you. How a basic thing like this can slip through the cracks is beyond me.
Any help will be appreciated.

To be polite i think you have a lot of lock screen control apps and a suggestion is that you uninstall such lockscreen apps and install them one by one and analyze which causes conflicts!

Don't have any lockscreen apps. Anybody on 5.0.2 will know what I'm talking about, hopefully.
I don't use poweramp, so I can't speak to that, but I haven't noticed any issue with rotation. As for your 3rd point, I'm not sure what the issue is. When my phone is charging, I see "Charging" displayed down near the lock icon, which changes to "Swipe up to Unlock" is you interact with screen. They don't display at the same time, and in either case they're not intersecting or unreasonably close to the lock icon. Owners info is displayed way up under the time, not near the bottom. I suppose someone might prefer a different look, but there's no functional issue or obvious aesthetic issue, so how is that a bug?

Poweramp is not 100% compatible with Lollipop yet. As for the screen rotation, i don't face this problem.

For me all of them - 'Charging', "Swipe up to Unlock" intersect. Weird, I know, but it's there.
Sent from my XT1068 using XDA Free mobile app
Landscape mode
I am facing same problem of landscape mode.
most of the time my device turns into landscape mode though it should be portrait. For that reason i have turned off "Auto Rotation". I would be happy if moto fix this problem.

Hey guys
Today I updated to Android 9. Nothing to complain except this 1 annoying button.
This 1 forces the phone into the landscape mode and I can't find the setting to disable it.
There is also no way to drag of somewhere else. Also no notification or similar
Any suggestions?
It's because you have gestures enabled. There's no way to disable it afaik.
Button is nothing but annoying

I also have this button and it's beyond annoying and covers up part of my keyboard. There's got to be a way or an app that gets rid of this thing for those of us who don't want it.
