What rom are you trying to install
and what Recovery image are you using?

Also, did you upgrade your SPL?
Don't forget that some/most roms require the "Danger" SPL...
If you need to upgrade your recovery, radio & SPL here a tutorial. Follow it to the T though! MAKE SURE YOU INSTALLED THE NEW RADIO CORRECTLY BEFORE YOU TRY THE SPL!

Radio is correct, and the recovery i dont know, im followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553416

You can use this Recovery image
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
after that you want to get the 1.6adp and put that in root of your sdcard
then get the latest cyanogen rom and put that in your root of sdcard
Turn off the phone then hold the home button then press the power button wait till you get into the Recovery image
go to the wipe option and click wipe reset factory settings
then go to flash any zip file and flash the 1.6 ado ota file
it will say reboot but dont do it go back to flash any zip file again and flash Cyan latest rom 4.2.9.1 let.. after that is done you can reboot
let it reboot and it will take you back to the Recovery screen click reboot again... and wait till you phone boots up and you should see the blue android..
hope you get to flash the rom or this helps
also you can use this guide as this to me seems the best guide to follow

Cannot flash any update.zip due to ADP1 1.6

I tried upgrading from 4.1.1.1.1. to Cyan's most recent ROM and have locked my phone to ADP1 1.6 do to my phone giving some error and rebooting when it wasn't supposed to. I cannot install Any update.Zip files it gives me the following error (Install aborted) after trying flash any update.zip, i am at stock recovery, and i get permission denied on various commands Via ADB but it tells me i have root still. On top of that Fast boot isn't letting me install any type of recovery image giving me an error (cannot load "cm-recovery-1.4.img"). Can anyone help me out of this funk i am in and again i am not able to unroot my phone to stock. Thanks for the help in advance

After you flashed the ADP1 1.6 did you reboot the phone or did you flash the cyan rom? I don't actually know what happens if you reboot before flashing the cyan rom but apparently it's not a good idea since the wiki guide says, in bold, not to reboot until after you flashed the new rom.
Well yes i was aware that i wasnt supposed to reboot but as the phone was doing something to the radio it went black next thing i know the phone goes through its normal process to boot up. But this was while i was trying to install 4.2.3.1.
The answer you seek kinda sucks, but it also has a very clear solution: you lost root.
Your fix: re-root and follow the direct instructions for getting to 4.2.3.1.

Cyanogen to 2.2

My phone is running the latest version of Cyanogen. (also with Amon_RA's recovery image)
I got the zip, changed it to update.zip, placed it on the root of my SD card, and attempted to flash.
I get the error
"E: no signature (411 files)"
"E: Verification failed"
"installation aborted."
Do I need to go back to the stock ROM before I can apply this update?
Maybe the recovery image has to be the stock recovery image?
First thing I'm going to try is installing the version that has root preinstalled.
I'll update after.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686631
you NEED to flash the pre-rooted version if you're going to flash via recovery.
yep, that worked. Thanks.

Can't Sign In

I just bought a used G1 and was trying to root it.
It had RC30 on it so I downgraded and after the process of changing the recovery image, I can now no longer log into the phone.
I've tried everything and I still can't.
I also can't open the update.zip, it says.
E:No signature (5 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted
HELP I
Downgraded
Got Telnet App and rooted
Installed custom recovery
Then tried to update radio, which didnt work and now I cant login!

[Q] (Yet another) 2.2.1 question

Got the OTA notification yesterday. Decided to install it.
The problem is is that I have a custom recovery image. Android system recovery or something like that. When the OTA update put the phone in recovery mode, the instillation failed because the packet was not signed (assuming this recovery can't read official signed zips)
I also downloaded it from google and the same thing happened. I clicked "flash zip from sdcard" under the recovery and it gave me the same error.
Also, this won't unroot me right? If it does can I just adb root it again?
Also I've heard alternative keyboards have issues, but I also heard if you uninstall and reinstall them it fixes the issue.
So how can I install 2.2.1? I don't really want to reset the phone to factory. Any other options?
Also, the OTA notification is gone, so I have to flash the zip most likely.
And... I rooted using adb. Will this unroot it (I know it breaks one-click root)

Use Amon RA 1.8.0.x or ClockworkMod, they will both flash anything, signed (release or test) or not.
This will unroot you, but the rageagainstthecage exploit still works.
I tried both amon ra and clockwork. Amon ra gave me this
Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (188 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted.

clockwork gave me something similar. I believe it just failed.
This is where I'm getting the update from
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRG83-from-FRF91.c8847c98.zip
I mean it looks entirely legit. I renamed it to update.zip.
Edit: I tried Amon Ra 1.8.0 (as it is supposed to allow singed and unsigned packages) and it still failed, I got this one this time...

The Status 7 error was a similar error i got when I tried to flash KoR 2.2 (no cyanogen). I believe it meant your boot or kernel sector has bad areas or something. The rom dev released a fix with a new rom with smaller kernel.

[Q] Revert everything to Stock Nexus One

CM7 wonk issue has greatly affect my day-to-day use of N1, so now I wish to revert back everything into Stock including recovery so I'm able to update N1 via OTA.
I have been searching the methods with some trial and errors but to no success to return them into Stock.
N1 Specs:
Radio: 5.08.00.04
Hboot 0.35.0017
S-ON
Downloaded "Nexus One FRF91 system image" from h**p://developer.htc.c0m
Factory reset, wipe cache. Boot into clockworkmod Recovery. Tried below not succeed:
Code:
$ adb shell
~ # su
/sbin/sh: su: not found
~ # flash_image recovery recovery.img
failed with error: -1
error opening recovery.img~ #
~ #
Boot into fastboot USB, tried below not succeed again:
Code:
$ fastboot-mac flash userdata userdata.img
sending 'userdata' (2 KB)... OKAY
writing 'userdata'... INFOsignature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
Any kind soul could help on this?
Do you need to flash something from here:

Unroot/restore guide in the Wiki, using passimg method with an FRG33 image...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
thanks. got it
I rarely use my N1 anymore, and my wife who has a custom GB rom right now would like to go back to complete stock....
I will go review the wiki now, but would appreciate some steps if someone is willing. is there not a stock GB rom I could just flash and keep root?
Alright, read the guide and now I need to know which method to determine what screen she has?
Unroot / Restore your Nexus
Using fastboot:
Restore Nexus One to original shipping image
Using PASSIMG.ZIP method (adapted from here):
Attention: Latest Froyo stock ROM - FRG83 - doesn't flash using PASSIMG.ZIP method. Use FRG33 for stock ROM and follow the additional steps below to install FRG83.
Only if downgrading to stock builds older than FRG33, ONLY FOR AMOLED DEVICES - Revert HBOOT to older version.
******* WARNING - DOWNGRADING HBOOT ON SLCD DEVICE WILL BRICK IT !!! ******* EPF30 Attention - Amoled vs SLCD
Use the following steps to flash PASSIMG.ZIP that differs from EPF30.
Download any complete stock ROM from here.
Rename the downloaded ZIP file to PASSIMG.ZIP.
Transfer the provided PASSIMG.ZIP file to the root of your SD card.
Power down your phone.
Hold down the Volume Down button as you power your phone back on.
A screen should appear showing your phone’s system searching for various files. This will take up to 2 minutes.
The phone will ask you if you want to start the update. Press the Volume Up button to start the update.
If you followed these steps correctly - congratulations, you are now on stock ROM of your choice.
To upgrade FRG33 to FRG83:
Download this signed update.
Rename to "update.zip" and copy to the root of SD card.
Power down your phone.
Hold down the Volume Down button as you power your phone back on.
Select "RECOVERY" with Volume Up/Down buttons, press Power button when selected.
Press Power and Volume Up when the warning triangle icon appears.
Select "Apply sdcard:update.zip".
Wait for the Progress to complete, the phone will reboot a couple of times automatically.
Don't worry about downgrading the hboot, and the FRG33 image will work with either screen...
However, since your wifes phone is already rooted, I would recommend just flashing a rooted stock Gingerbread instead of the passimg method...

@Danger-rat: I want to return my Nexus One to stock also but don't have as clue how to do it. What is the URL for this "Wiki" people talk about? I just updated my cyanogen mod7 to 7.0.3-N1 and that works find but I get a failure for every install of update.zip that I try.
ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...

I just can't seem to figure this out and I think it should be pretty easy.

Flash the first file from this thread and then flash the su.zip file IMMEDIATELY after, WITHOUT rebooting your device in between.
