I have tried several roms, no go on any. Android doesnt work either.
(This is in Andriod 2.0.1) When I try to connect to wifi, it gets stuck on "Obtaining address..." then it finally just says "Unsuccessful". My network is open. No WPA or WEP or nothing!
Its not just Android, its not working in WinMo 6.1 and 6.5. It says its connected, but nothing will load in WinMo.
Radio version is 1.71.09.01
Just installed and working great.

I tried restarting my router, same thing. I have 3 other computers on the network using wireless with no problem and a iPod touch. I have no idea whats casuing this.
Thanks in advance for any help!
That's strange because my kaiser has just done exactly what you have described there, and it was working fine yesterday. No clue why it's happened but reading your post suggests that perhaps it was a timed event of some sort, if yours happened on the 21st too. I'm using the same radio version. I'll try another tomorrow.
EDIT: Well changing the radio didnt work. Neither did changing the date back a few days just in case it was a time limited problem (was a long shot). Guess it's a hard reset time...

I've hard reset twice, no go. I also changed my radio back to 1.65 something and that didn't work either!
I'm stumped to as what it could be.
Yup im stumped too. I've reverted back to a 6.1 stock rom and tried stock radio and other radios and it's still not working at all. So evil.
Anyone?
Really would like my wifi working!
chmod 0755 /system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-run-hooks
chmod 0666 /system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-run-hooks/*
That fixed it. Are you also experimenting with a custom filesystem/partition setup?

This fixed it for someone else, im quite familiar with chmoding files etc.
Just how to I navigate to these on my phone? I can't find them.
EDIT:
I had a chance today to try out another router/isp at a relatives house. It connected and wifi worked fine.
It has to do something with some settings of my router, more specifically how it assigns a IP since it stops at obtaining a IP?
Well I did the following and managed to fix mine:
Re-added all the MAC addresses to my router's filter list. The addresses were identical as they had been before I re-typed them in, but refreshing them seemed to allow the kaiser to connect up once more. I don't understand how it became "corrupt" in this way because I'm the only one with access to my router settings and I hadn't changed anything in it for months.
My router is a Belkin Pre-N 2000UK model.
Hope you manage to fix yours. Good luck.

I purchased my TYTN II a week ago today, but did not get around to moving my sim over from my Trinity until last friday. when i did everything went well, it synced fine and i got all my data over from my Trin. It wasn't until i came to use the wifi that i noticed a problem! I turned on wifi in comm manager and it quickly found my router (British Telecom HomeHub). I launched IE and the HTC default page came up, so i changed it to google. Then i tried to go to one of the pages from my favorites, but all i get is a message saying "THIS PAGE CAN NOT BE FOUND" or it just times out! so i tried typing in the page and got the same result. So i checked the settings/connections/wifi and compared them to the settings on my Trin. Everthing was fine, though the Trin did have a stronger signal than the T II. So then i checked wireless Lan and all of the settings seemed o.k.
So today i called HTC u.k. to explain the problem, and to be honest the guy i spoke to was quite helpfull. they are going to investagate the problem and get back to me, i HOPE!
Has anyone else had this problem? if so could you please let me know asap so i can let HTC know i'm not the only one.
and one other thing, has anyone else had that stupid charger with there phone?
look forward to any replies
So, is the problem that one phone has a better WiFi signal than the other?
i wish
No it's not. it seems that the T II has a problem with the actual wireless radio, as it won't even download my emails through wifi
Either your WiFi radio isn't working, or you have a configuration issue. Config wise it could be any number of issues: proxy, router, security, etc. I mean, it could be a defective phone. but not knowing how proficient you are with networking, and it being a new phone to you, it could be config issue.
maybe
i did check all the conection settings next to my Trin, and all seems fine. there is another post here titled WIFI DOA i think maybe that guy may have a simular issue
Just FYI, my WiFi grabs email and access the NET, it does it all just fine.
I also switch between 2-5 routers per day and it latches onto every router with no intervention rom me.
reset
I've even done a H/R and numerous S/R and still no joy
If you are sure it is setup correctly, send it back for a replacement. I have no troubles with an almost OUT OF THE BOX setup.
I also have a problem with the wifi, sometime its work and other no response.
I can get the IP but I am not able to browse using IE.
when I am still using Eten M700 I naver have this problem, and i use it very often.
I never need to change the wifi setting.
The error message sounds like a proxy configuration issue. It might be that your router is running in a mode that needs you to set up a proxy, or it might be that you have a proxy configured on the PDA which is incorrect.
You can probably get more help here if you paste the exact configuration information from the PDA, and some configuration information from whatever computer you have and that connects correctly to the Internet through the router. Of course do not include the passwords ;-)
I had exactly the same problem with my new last week TyTN II.
I read this fix from another forum and my wifi now connects perfectly, displays any web page and downloads my emails.
Within settings go to connections, then wireless LAN, within W Lan go to power mode and change the settings from best battery to best performance.
All should now be well.
I am a fresh owner of an unlocked HTC 8925 and I am having the hardest time connecting to the internet via WIFI. I connect to any hotspot just fine (atleast that's what the phone indicates to me) but when it is time to hit the internet with internet explorer it tells me that I can't go anywhere. (Yes, I chose that this connection connects to the internet)
I don't recall the exact error message but it was along the lines of that any websites I tried to go to was name unknown or something like that. I'll get the exact error message if needed.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you.

have you got the IEEE 802.11b/g etc set to "the internet"?
it may be obvious/you've already checked it, but i thought i'd ask, seeing as no one has commented yet...
I have the same problem!!! I try everything but nobody know how to fix it, click in this thread, i started it and i tried everything that they told me but with not result, maybe you haver better luck.

GOT IT! At least for myself (HTC Touch "Elf" w/ ShadoW 2.0 ROM).
Was going MAD over this.
Problem is that some programs (in my case the WMWiFi Router ICS software) changes the default network settings for WiFi.
Go to Settings-->WiFi -->Network Adapters Tab. Click on your main WiFi adapter (in my case "IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi Adapter") and select "Use server assigned IP address".
If this doesn't help (i.e. already checked) I do apologize. Worked in my case.
Hope this helps!
Hi all
My head's getting a bit sore from banging it against a brick wall while trying to sort my phone out, and I was hoping someone might be able to help me.
I did a ROM flash to Dutty's latest about 1 month ago, and all worked fine. At some point afterwards, I did *something* (possibly running the Connection Setup Wizard - don't ask!), and I lost the ability to get internet transfers over Orange (UK) - mail would just tell me it can't retrieve the messages (check the settings blah blah), and Opera just gave me a Network Error page.
Now, I've chatted with Orange lots, deleted all connection settings and played around with various settings and I'm pretty confident I have that right. On demand (i.e. starting mail or Opera), I can see the session establishment (i.e. the arrows moving over the G or 3G or H marker on the title bar), and the Data Connection indication is set in Comms Manager, but I still can't get transfers.
Note that I have since reflashed the same ROM a couple of times, and both times I have successfully had the internet working for up to about 2 or 3 days, then it goes again. When it does go, I get the Database Update Check appearing almost every time a session is established. I originally put the patch in place to stop this happening, but was worried that might be causing the networking problems so didn't since reflashing the rom this latest time.
WiFi works OK - I'm using a static IP address but I don't think this is causing a problem with GPRS/3G comms.
So, I'm thinking there might be some setting on the phone that I keep changing somehow (not intentionally) which is breaking the routing between Orange and Windows.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm losing it a bit here, as it used to work fine all the time and now it seems to just stop!
Cheers for any help
Rich
Soft Reset
Does a soft reset fix your problem?
I get this from time to time, i soft reset and all is ok again.
I also get orange safeguard on some sites every now and then even though its switched off.
Nope, once it's gone it's gone. Very strange. Still trying to figure this out, as it's driving me nuts!
Still, it's a good excuse to try out some different ROMs!

i had this a wile back and all of a sudden it just started working again
SOLUTION
If anyone's interested, I found a solution to this and I thought I'd share it.
The problem is due to an issue with 2.03 ROM as far as I can tell (I had Dutty's v4 on the phone) and static ip address on WiFi.
IF you use static ip over WiFi, then when you enter the ip address etc for the WiFi network adapter, it appears to try and use these settings on the GPRS connection too. This is why, when I spoke to Orange, as far as they were concerned everything was working OK.
So, the session establishes to Orange, then I request a page and it try's to use my DNS (192.168.1.1) to resolve the address - all goes wrong at that point. No web, no mail, nothing.
To solve, simply remove the settings from the WiFi adapter.
There may be a better solution to this, but I'm just happy I can have my phone back working again!!!

A few days ago I ran into a problem. My wifi wasn't connected when I turned on my tab 8.9. When I try to connect to my own network, and get into the settings page, the option 'ok' is greyed out. This means that I can only 'cancel', and in that way not connect to my own network anymore. The same thing happens when I try to connect to another network. My device is not rooted, running 3.2, and it is running the most recent firmware. Restarting the device didn't solve it. Any thoughts on this one?
Bump, same problem, or at least similar.
Android Version 3.2
Kernal Version 2.6.36.3 ([email protected] #1)
Build Number HTJ85B
Wireless works on some networks and not others. B G N do not matter, it is random. Still running stock ROM, not rooted. I have tried reseting OS, no luck.
What it does it it finds the network, tries to connect to the network, fails, remembers the network, and the cycle starts over.
Hi guys,
do you get the 'Obtaining IP address' message when connecting? mine does that constantly on some networks, it gets stuck in a loop and simply will not connect. I've found out that this is due to the tab remembering an IP address it used to use and trying to re-use it every time it connects. That is of course not always possible and so it tries - fails - tries etc.
The way to fix this apparently is to delete the dhcp_list file which holds the remembered IP addresses, only issue is that I cannot find that file anywhere. I'm running AOSP Galaxian Soup on mine with motley kernel, my home wifi works ok (probably because the same IP address is available all the time), work wifi doesn't want to work at all.
Maybe one of the devs sees this and can shed a bit more light on whether the solution is correct or not.
Regards,
dsc.
I was eventually able to solve this in a very easy way. for one reason or another the tab only wanted to log in when the password contained a capital, so I changed the WPA preshared key to something that contained a capital and a number and it was working again. very strange, because it had been working perfectly for about two months before this problem occurred. hope this helps.
Hi,
I managed to fix it by selecting static IP. I've seen this suggested a couple of times but when using the tablet in horizontal position I could see the static/dynami selection. Turns out you have to rotate the table to vertical position to see it.

dsc.
Thanks for the discussion. my main problem is that i can't set a static at my work network. it will work at home, but i NEED it to work at both, otherwise it does me no good. I will keep banging my head against.
I will check back to see if smarter people come up with a solution, and if i come up with somthing i will post.

This is my problem exactly.
Hi,
not sure if you've seen this (I think the original solution comes from here anyway):
[tried posting an url but it was blocked, try googling:
'Tab cannot get IP address for WiFi problem + recs'
and scroll down to zakaria's post]
Some people suggest trying static, even if it fails it might delete the previously stored IP address that the Tab is trying to connect with and get a new one which should work. What I did was connected to the Wifi with my laptop, checked the IP/DNS details and after slight mods used it on the Tab. I did try setting the static to something roughly correct, connecting and reverting back to dynamic, but it wouldn't have it

dsc.

Have you checked with your work network whether or not it needs ca certificate?
or you could try to download wifi ace (advanced config editor) from the playstore, and set the settings from there
Wi-Fi stopped working on my Captivate today. The device says it is connected but I am not actually connected to my home network. The network is fine because every other wireless device in the house connects and communicates. Specs:
Slim-I897-4.2.2.build.1-OFFICIAL (note: I was using RC1 when the problem started this morning. I decided to flash the new build just now to see if that would change anything but it didn't)
straosk semaphore 3.0.66
So far I've shut it down, removed the battery, told it to forget Wi-Fi connections and re-entered them, and restarted my router (although everything else attached to it continues to work just fine). The phone wasn't shaken, stirred, dropped, wet, or abused in any way. It just stopped connecting to Wi-Fi!
Any troubleshooting advice will be greatly appreciated.

Backup your stuff (nandroid and such), factory reset and re-flash. My guess is that a setting or a file got corrupted.

Late last night one of my kids told me her phone (Pantech) didn't have wi-fi, either. Right now I'm checking the network for interference since the laptop and printer are working fine wirelessly but the phones and Wii are not. I'll post what I find out after I figure out the issue. Thanks!
Check that they're all assigned IP addresses etc. DNS error most likely, probably due to DHCP not being released fast enough and network clogging up. Happened at our work not too long ago, hope this helps.

That was it, or something like it. I changed the router over to OpenDNS, ditto for my phone, and assigned a static IP to the phone. Worked fine after that. I have no idea what changed, but you got me going in the right direction. Thanks!
No problem,
