Hi,
I've dumped my phone into the 4 .raw file and restored it as written in another thread using part02.raw. Is there a way to restore part03.raw? I've searched and searched the forum again, I cannot find any way to do it. Or maybe there's is another way to make a backup ?
Thank you,
Cyb
I asked this very same question...no one seems to know!
I don't think it's possible. Just rebuild it using a stock ROM and your Part01 (XIP) and Part02 (IMGFS).
Part03 is the user storage partition i.e your data.

Dave
I know what it is, it's the user data i want to restore.

I have successfully used Nandroid to backup my phone. I wanted to know if it was possible to extracts the files and data out of the data.img that Nandroid gives? I read about the unyaffs tool, but was not able to get it working when I gave it data.img. Is this possible with unyaffs or any other method? Thanks.
the only way you might be able to do it is with unyaffs, but i personally have never tried(i am on a new computer and haven't even gotten adb working yet) so i am not gonna be much help. but if you look around for an answer you will find loads of threads about this and all of them end with "you need to use unyaffs"
I've been searching and haven't found a way to dump the current rom in the state that it is in. Is there a program available to do to this? If not, can anyone point me to some info where I can figure out how to pull the rom from the phone?
Thanks.
Edit:
I found phonedump in my ongoing search, does it do what I'm looking for? Also, how would I go about getting the raw files back on?

Thanks. This looks promising. Sometimes it can be so hard to find what you are looking for via search.

From what I read here it doesn't tell you how to extract or dump a rom from a phone hooked up via activesync. That's the main thing I want to do, rip out the current rom of my phone and package it nicely in an .nbh that customruu would reinstall for me.
Take a look at this, that's probably what you're looking for. But why do you want to dump the ROM, when you could just hard reset? It's not the exact same, but unless you had a bad flash in the first place (unlikely), a new ROM flash of the same ROM won't accomplish much. Anyway, I hope that helps

I want to dump the rom because I plan on flashing it with a different one but want to be able to put it back to just how it was if I don't like it. From what I understand the hard reset won't work once I flash it with another rom.
I like it how it is and I might want to go back after trying a cooked rom, but it's possible I won't either. The way I figure it, what if the grass isn't greener?
Thanks for the link. That pdocread is the same thing used in the phonedump thing I found. It seems my only remaining question would be regarding the correlation between the two parts
Code:
pdocread -w -d FLASHDR -b 0x800 -p Part01 0 0x380000 Part01.raw
pdocread -w -d FLASHDR -b 0x800 -p Part02 0 0x4560000 Part02.raw
which are the XIP and ROM and how I would put them in a .nbh.
This visual kitchen program might do that for me, I'm not sure yet. That first link you gave me led to another, much older link where people are asking the same questions. I have 21 more pages to read. hehe Thanks again.
From reading the link from DaveTheTytnIIGuy I learned that the "keyword" I needed to be searching for was "reconstruct" and that turned up the threads that I was searching for in the following link with the httpcolonslashslash missing ;-)

Yes, I searched and couldn't find an answer.
This is what I'd like to do:
1) Back up everything on my phone.
2) Flash and play with different ROMs
3) Flash back the original ROM.
4) Restore the system to what it was..file by file EXACTLY what it was.
Now, before you say "SPB Backup", I'm using that. It works very nicely but it doesn't do a "true restore". It only adds new files and overwrites updated files. It doesn't delete files that aren't in the backup image. So SPB isn't quite what I need.
I wish to find a BU/Restore app that will put the system back *exactly* the way it was. Add new files, overwrite updated files and delete files that aren't in the backup image. IE: A "true restore".
Thanks
I don't think any backup utility will erase files for you; you need to do it yourself. If you want something automated, it's pretty easy to write a set of mortscripts that will delete all of the crap you want to get rid of regularly. It would probably take you an hour or two to get a script that would deleted a hundred or so files.

There is indeed a way to do this and as you said SPB Backup won't do it.
If you want to stick with SPB - then there is SPB Clone.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/clone/
There is another one that came out recently Sprite Clone
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite-clone
I've used SPB Clone quite a bit in the past and it's always worked great. I have Sprite Clone but I haven't tried using it yet (no need at this time) - but this one might actually be better because it supports wm 6.5 and I don't think the other does yet.
There is a trial version of the Sprite Clone one here: http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/clone/clone-trial-request
and a trail version of the SPB clone one here:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/clone/download.html
So that's the good news. The bad news is how much it costs - yer lookin at 300 bucks.
I use SPB Backup but just hard reset the phone before using the standalone restorer.
You know, you should try out sk tools backup (comes with sk tools). I've used it a few times recently, and it will remove files that weren't present during the original backup procedure. I've seen it remove links in the startup folder and also remove files from the root of the storage system. I'd say it's pretty close to what you want, and you may already have it.

I will second the motion for SK Tools Backup. Once you make a backup file it copies an exe to the same folder for restoration purposes. When you need to do a full restore, hard reset your device and run the backup program that was created along with the backup file. It sets EVERYTHING back to the way things were.
Hi All,
like many of the users I have a problem with missing /efs folder. Although I can't find it I have my IMEI and my phone (S5830) works fine. I can make and receive calls.
But let's start from the beginning. I had Android in 2.3.3 version.
Using this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145 I have upgraded it to 2.3.6.
I have also rooted it using universal_gb_root_v25.zip.
Now I wanted to play with it a little more so I though of doing backup. Previously I made one using CWM but I read that it doesn't backup /efs folder that stores IMEI and other important data. So I started searching through the forum for a solution. I've downloaded EFS Professional but for some reason it gives me error "An error occured while getting partition list!" when I select my phone from the drop-down list on the backup tab. I cannot do backup because the "Device Partitions" window is empty.
I did not give up and searched the forum a little more. So I've downloaded two apps: ES File Explorer and Root Explorer. Unfortunately both could not locate /efs folder. All the Linux folders were there except /efs. There's dev and next is etc. No efs.
So I though that maybe the folder was hidden but the I checked the options of Root Explorer to show hidden files.
Lastly I checked the method with adb shell and busybox like below:
adb shell
su
tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
but as I though I got the message that /efs folder could not be found.
Has anyone have an idea how to get to /efs folder in my case? Where does my phone keep IMEI? How to backup (and restore) my phone in this scenario? Is there any other way to backup the most important files?
I know there are lot of questions but I'd appreciate helping me with it. Thanks in advance.

its difficult to find the efs folder bt u can check ur IMEI number by this code *#06#.
you can backup efs files by efs professional tool.
a CWM backup is also safe as it includes most of important files.
hit thanx if helped.

Thanks for the one above. From this post I read that SGA does not have /efs (folder/partition) or it is not mounted by default so I can't see it. Which one is the right answer? It does not exists or it is not mounted?
If doesn't exists then where should I look for IMEI data and all other critical stuff?
If it exists I could issue:
mount -r -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /efs
-r not to make any changes. I would have to create /efs folder first using: adb shell mkdir /efs
Am I following the right path?
I'd have already tried that but don't want to screw up my phone. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion however this doesn't bring any useful information to this topic. I already know to be very careful with EFS data.
I would like to get some answers about configuration of this data on SGA. I would like to know whether there is a way to back it up That's all

I think it's useful...anyway It's really simple, FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR EFS FOLDER OR YOU'LL BRICK YOUR PHONE!!
First... the question is why would you wanna backup your IMEI ? You needn't even write it down as a backup if you have the bill of your phone. And in case if you ever lost the IMEI, there is a guide to restore it & you can restore your older IMEI. So why worry to backup ?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
I wrote the IMEI down just as a precaution. I didn't know it was on the bill as to be honest the phone used to belong to my wife. I know there are several threads about restoring IMEI and other necessary data. I have already viewed them.
The reason I put this thread was that I was unable to locate the famous efs folder. I'm new in this stuff but I'm also a quick learner. After going through several threads and articles I was curious why I could not locate efs folder on my SGA. Answers such as "don't look for it or you will damage your phone" are just simply not what I was looking for. Anyway if someone please explain me the technical details of this phone and the reason why I can't make a backup using several tools and methods I would be very grateful.
Your quest for the efs folder is unending. I appreciate your effort in learning new things but what's the point of finding something that's of no practical use ? Yeah, you can't find the efs folder & no one else has ever worried about it coz everyone knows how to get their phone back online when they lose their IMEI. So either backing it up or looking for it is not worth a penny . All that counts is that the phone works & that the IMEI is secured, be it without that folder of your interest. If you clearly state your intentions with what you have to do by backing it up, someone might be able to help.

Hi I am have just joined the forum searching for a help. It was my first time flashing custom roms and had been at fault in technically missing some of the instruction. I have failed to backup any bin, img or efs folder which could help me fix IMEI. using MTK droid tool (for MT6589), I am receiving an error of missing pttycmd1 and even searching the root of my phone, I can't find any nv_ram or efs. Is there any other way to fix my device?
Baseband: Unknown
No IMEI
cannot use AT+egmr command
thanks for the reply.
efs ?
efs is a partition for sim unlock right ?
i do hope so, because I just read from other threads about exploring and backup of efs can fix baseband & imei.
I can't find my efs either. The issue I'm having is to get rid of Factory Mode. Have seen tutorials on how to do it, but the efs file is missing and so I can't actually do it. Any suggestions on how to fix these issues? Thanks
Is there a tool yet for backup of ta keys without using a .bat file. Last I looked ( a few months ago) the main tool was a windows bat file which mainly had unix adb commands in it (ironic!). I never got around to backup of my ta keys or putting a proper rom on because I never got around to rewriting that .bat file in shell script.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Use Flashtool, there is an option to back up the TA partition (read: your DRM keys).
And yeah, as moly82 said, this does not belong here. There is a General QA subforum, for example.

Thanks frikisama, I have used the Java program flashtool. I didn't realize they had a TA backup function in there. Last I had looked, everyone was sending me to a "TA backup" program which was basically a shell script for windows.
I'll double check flashtool (maybe I need to download a later version) and then post back here if I have troubles!
Cheers!

Thanks, zezidas, I didn't find the backup TA option in the version of flashtool I'm using. I'm going to go ahead and try your translated bash version of ta backup!
EDIT: worked great! I haven't tried the restore yet, but the script ran without error and it seems I a probably correct set of files in a .zip file. Thanks!
