Wiping Question[look at post #12,19]

Hey all.
After installing CM-v4.0.2 and the Dark Dream Theme I was golden.
Then I wanted to try Jac xrom. So I ran recovery, wiped, and installed and loaded the rom.
Everything was ok. But I noticed my apps were still showing up even after wiping. I think this is because of the A2SD feature....some would FC but I just uninstalled those ones and reinstalled and they worked.
So I ran recovery, wiped, and then installed CM 4.0.4. My apps are still there.
So now you know my history, how can I "WIPE" my SD card from my phone, if that is even possible?
I know how with my partition manager, but that is such a hassle....

Is that from Virtual terminal, or from recovery terminal?

Since u have cyan's 1.4 recovery u can fix it without deleteing them and installing agian. Go into the recovery console and run fix_permissions reboot and you sould be good. Should look like this:
Fix_permissions (press enter)
Reboot(press enter)
After it reboots u shouldnt have anymore fc!

its better to do it in the recovery terminal, but you can do it in terminal but you will receive massive force closes till your wipe your phone and flash a new rom. but try to do what pistol4413 said first, if you want to keep you apps

So if I wanted to start from scratch(no apps on SD) I would:
-Run the code david1171 provided from terminal
-flash a fresh rom
-flash a fresh theme
and if I want to change roms after that I would:
-wipe
-flash new rom
-run fix_permissions

Would it be smart to do a nandroid backup so if I dont like a rom I can just reflash the backup?

yep you got it or for changing roms you shouldn't have to wipe if going between cupcake builds but a wipe is needed if changing from a hero to cupcake or vice versa.

Wow you posted fast. Thanks. I couldnt even edit that fast.

yeah i nandroid before flashing any new rom that i think could mess up. and i just go between forums a lot. i have the dev, theme, and Q&A in my toolbar on firefox so i just click between them frequentlly lol

So that code you provided only deletes the contents of the partitions, and not the partitions themselves?

that is correct. to delete the actual partition you would have to go into parted via the recovery console and type rm x(substitute with whichever partition needs to be removed)

Ok. So I formatted my SD. Re-flashed 4.0.4.(no theme this time)
Now all is ok EXCEPT, when I go to my downloads, everything I have purchased/downloaded says it is still installed ,and I try to uninstall and it gives an "uninstall unsucessful". After that it highlights the app and makes it "purchased" so I can DL it again.
I tried to run fix_permissions but this had no effect.
Anyway around this?
Has this already been addressed? If not should I post this in Cyanogens thread?

It is possible that it is your market database connected to your gmail account, I wouldn't worry about it if the programs are no longer there

that's correct don't worry about it. if they say free beside them that should mean that they are no longer on your phone but it is still linked to the market database

He is saying that he is trying to uninstall them though so it would have to be saying installed so it is sounding more like some type of remains possibley on there

now i am confused bc he says it says free... wouldn't it say installed if the phone still thought the app was installed
oh wait i went back and reread what he said a few times, and from what i understand it could be that the phone registers the apps being on it but when he tries to uninstall it the phone can't find the app, then it says uninstall unsuccessful and gives the option to reinstall it. maybe thats what it is

All my purchased apps say installed, even though they are not installed.
When I select one from the "my downloads" it gives the option to run or uninstall.
-If I choose run, it says app not found
-If I choose uninstall, it says uninstall unsuccessful.
After all that, the app goes back to "purchased" status do I can DL again.
Same goes for the free apps.
This is quite bothersome.
Now I am just in need of a fix

try going to settings- applications- manage applications- market- clear cache.

google goggles - what is google doing

just tried to load & install newest update of google goggles - install failed "insufficient storage available"....
running CM 4.2.9.1.....
does that mean google goggles "tries" to install itself into internal storage?
does that mean google found a way to circumvent apps2sd?

I didn't have any issues installing it. It didn't install on my G1's internal storage which currently has 79.52MB available.

just to check what is going on (whether something really wrong on my side), i installed another app (backgrounds), and the installation went fine.
another person in the market comments reported the same issue

I'd check your A2SD was actually working It might be installing as a system app, I'm not sure, and I don't know if your system apps are in sd\app_s or in system\app.

it gets more weird... i just checked.
even if google goggles wants to install itself into the internal phone storage, there is still 59.73MB free...
i don't get it

question:
did you all try to install the latest update?

I use CM 4.2.9.1 as well and did not have any problems upgrading to Goggles 1.0.1.
Does "adb logcat" report anything interesting?

... that's the first time this happened to me

did a complete reinstall of CM ROM, etc., but still the same problem.

next CM update i will wipe then it may work.

I had this issue onCM4.2.9.1 as well but got around it by uninstalling 1.0.0 and installing 1.0.1. It didn't use any internal memory either.

There's your problem. Uninstall Goggles and try installing it again from the Market. If you get the same error, do this:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
su
rm -rf /data/data/com.google.android.apps.unveil
and then try installing it again.

Can't say for sure, but somehow the permissions on that folder were different from what the app required. This can sometimes happen if you originally install the app manually (e.g. downloaded the APK from somewhere) instead of directly from the Market.

I search apk file (goggles v1.0.1)

This happens to me every once in a while. I usually just reboot and try the install again, and it works.

well i didn't, but i did try to uninstall Amazon MP3 manually (via SU File Management System) - i might have hit the wrong file and messed up the permissions folders...
anyway, it works now

Apps won't install anymore - Froyo

Just recently I can no longer install apps. From the market or anywhere else, I always get "INSTALLATION unsuccessful". My phone storage has 50mb and plenty of space on my sd card. Also I set the install location to where it installs to sd automatically. What's the deal?

Anyone have this problem?

im also wondering this. often i get this. the app wont install at all or i have to wait a while to try and install it again n it works. wonder whats causing this

I've been having this issue too, and not only in Froyo.

U moved the dalvik cache to cache partition and cache partition is now full

I find a solution! If you were having problems similar to me, this should work. Anyways, goto terminal, su and type:
rm /mnt/secure/asec/smdl2tmp1.asec

I rebooted and everything is back to normal and I can install apps again.

I'm having this same issue. I formatted my system, data, and cache. Now nothing will install. The suggestions above haven't worked yet.

Has someone found a solution yet?

This is happening for me too...my market/play store keeps force closing and I can't install 90% of the things I try to install (even things that have been on my phone in the past). I feel like chucking my phone out the window I'm getting so frustrated.

Market app disappeared on Samsung Captivate

I reset my phone to factory setting and now I am missing a couple apps. The 2 that I notice are the Market app and my GMail app. I've done a lot of research and can't figure out how to return these two apps. Anyone have any suggestions?

Haha no, it wasn't.. Although, wondering if App brain has a website where it could be downloaded? And from App brain, download the Market app.

You'll need Root Explorer to do that.

Or if you have ADB, you could extract the market and gmail .apk's and adb install them to your phone.

that first guide is by me so hit the thanks...
or get a root file explorer program off the market for free,
get the app "SGS Tools" use it to "run script" > mount system RW
drop the apps in /system/apps/ with your explorer app
use "SGS Tools" again to "run script" > mount system RO
or buy the app root explorer. it has the RW RO button built in. so no run script....
or flash a custom rom..
or try a factory reset again...

^ A simple reflash of the ROM cleared up the problem of the missing apps for me.
Went from GR-12 to Subpression 3 and had the missin app problem...reflashed Subpression 3 and was good to go and then updated to 3.2 and no problems there either.
edit: I realize the OP said they reset their phone to factory settings, but I thought I'd leave my post anyway just incase someone flashed a custom ROM and experienced this problem.

I just had this issue after installing a theme and simply extracted the GR12 files on my SD card and installed the Market and vending apks.

How do I change the linked google account of my phone.. I don't want to do a hard reset. I tried clearing the data of all the google apps, but that didn't help... m on froyo 2.2 ...xxkb3... any ideas?
Edit > issue solved, just rename the accounts.db in data/system to something else and reboot... The registration procedure will start again...

The first account set becomes the default account. You cannot change the default account without hard reset

I needed to do this and didnt want to do a hard reset so found a simpler way - i9000 but im sure it will be the same!

Only thing i found was that the market didnt show installed apps because its a different account. But you can still search for the apps and then update them. Once you have done that they are linked to the new account.

My phone is rooted and still i cant see the folder system inside data folder .Please help . When i tried to ls in terminal emulator from data folder its showing permission denied.. How to get super user permission?

Did u flash any firmware aftr rooting?
If so u need to root again aftr flashing a firmware

I had observed that many a times when I applied a new theme I lost the google account and had to sign in again. Once, after applying a new theme, I signed in using a wrong account and of course no apps showed up in market. So I again copied Market (vending.apk) from this theme to /system/app and rebooted, but nothing changed. Then I copied settings.apk to /system/app but same result. Then in one go I copied "Contacts.apk", "DialerTabActivity.apk", "MMS.apk", "Settings.apk", "Vending.apk", "framework-res.apk" and "twframework-res.apk" to respective locations and on rebooting found that I had to sign in again. So it is definitely one of these files which caused the wrong account to be removed. If you have any of these original files or from a theme you like, just replace them and see.

I was also wondering about same.
For some reason data folder is shown to be empty.
Instead of tapping data ,type "/data/system" in explorer (I am using OI file manager
).
You will get where you want

Use root explorer... works pretty nicely.. simple and powerful...

Its the framework-res.apk that links the accounts. If you change this on any ROM you will loose the google account. Back up the accounts.db in two locations on your phone:
/data/system/accounts.db
and another one somewhere I can't think of now? Its possibly in my bookmarks on my root explorer?
